just installed cm7, mail is not threaded in app? - Nook Color General

hi mates. thanks for reading this. i did a search but it showed no results on this.
i am a first timer nook person and i installed the latest cm7 nightly on my sd card and was able to get it working on the nook. a few questions please as i have never used android before.
1. i set up my mail through the mail app and it works but it doesn't show threading. i have gmail and it only shows single messages instead of grouping. is this normal?
2. i want to use my google voice number to set up text messaging but cannot find where to input this.
3. there are apps and management tabs for phone, voice dialer, etc. things i will never use. can i remove them?
thanks!

figured it out, didn't install gapps.

Question about HERO

I could have sworn that when I first used the sms widget it prompted me what application I wanted to use for the buttons, compose msg mainly. I can't seem to make it work with handcent sms, even after clearing default programs in application manager. Anyone have any ideas?
Its never asked me what application I wanted to use it with... sorry I'm of no help...

Backup/transfer settings, SMS, call log, etc from 'old' N1 to 'new' N1

Got a replacement N1 from HTC.
Like with the first replacement, the Google "Backup" to transfer installed apps and settings does not work at all.
How can I either FORCE the "back up my settings" feature to work or is there a (FREE) alternative backup program that I can use?
well i dont think there's a way for call log and sms messages unless you use titanium backup. but what i do is use sms backup app (free) and call track (free) which run as a service at all times in teh background. sms backup sends all your texts to your gmail account in real time, under its own label, and call track sends all your call log to your google calendar in real time.
this week i needed to refer to an old text message, so i open gmail, find the sms label, and there is my complete text history in individual threads by contact in an IM style conversation, shows received and my replies. its brilliant. its a permanent record of all your texts and calls ever made.
i find when bouncing between ROMs and whatnot, that the only thing you lose everytime is texts and call log. everything else gets reloaded, like all apps get redownloaded automatically, settings get saved, bookmarks get saved, etc. so using those 2 apps basically saves me from losing anything.
EDIT: if you still have your old nexus, just install those 2 apps, and you can do a backup of everything now. it will take a little while to upload it all, but then from here forward just let those apps run all the time and you never have to worry about it again.
Thanks - I have been using call tracker. will try sms backup.
So how do I backup all my other settings (eg exchange, wifi, ringtone, ...) and apps?
As I mentioned in the OP, I can enable and disable Google's back up my settings however I want ... it just doesn't seem to work!

Is there any way to force Backup SMS to use names instead of [email protected] in the to/from (which is rather stupid)
SMS Backup & Restore app, as it says.
Call log Backup & Restore, as it says.
APN Backup & Restore, as it says.
All those back up the data to SD card.
All the rest is covered either by Google backup (if you check the "backup everything" on the old phone and don't check it when you setup a new one), or by Titanium backup.

I don't understand. It does use the names for me. All my threads in gmail are sorted by caller name.

For me WiFi is backed up by Google's backup. Ring tones are on the memory card. I don't use exchange.

google voice??? just sms app?

I am either blind, an idiot, or both. I want to use my g tablet with Google voice to look @ my SMS inbox and send SMS while on wifi. It would be nice to almost, if possible, send messages n a queue of sorts then once wifi is available have them sent. Bugatti this point it would just be nice to be able to use Google voice for SMS on this.
I already use GV for SMS on mine. Are you having trouble installing, or are your messages just not getting sent?
I am not having any issues with this running Vegan 5.1.
Would using the web version of google voice solve the issue for ya?
I already have google voice installed but it hangs up during the skip setting up voicemail part.. i choose i do not want to use google voice for making calls etc, and also tried all the other options as well so in case there was something weird about it not liking me choose do not use google voice for calls or what not.
do eother oneof you have a link to the GV app you installed where I could try that instead? I also am having a hard time finding in the market other apps as well. nother topic for another day.
I ran into the same thing when I was trying out Vegan. I never solved it myself since I decided to stick with Calkulin's ROM, but they seem to have figured it out in this thread:

Check this thread. I used the second DL from the guy's Dropbox/

getting two sms's instead of one

I just got the Incredible S a couple days ago and love it, glad I dumped my Xperia X10i for this.
I have ChompSms installed and every time I get a message I get it from Chomp and the phone book, how do I stop this?
Also, I imported my contacts from my sim card that I brought over from the Xperia and they show up fine and are useable but I can't move them into groups, when I go into a premade group (Family) and click to add a contact none of my contacts show up, how do I fix this?
Any help would be appreciated

When you say 'the phone book', I assume you mean the stock messaging app? If you open the 'Messages' app and go into settings, you can turn off the notifications and you'll then only see one notification (the Chomp one) when you receive an SMS.
transfer those contacts of your's to the phone or sync them with your gmail account, then probably you can add them in groups.
thanks, the double message one worked, I don't have my friends list synced with my gmail account by choice, I don't sms alot of the people on my gmail lol

Couple of queries

I have Darky 10.2.2 installed on my SGS, and want to give beta Swype a shot. Is this possible? I know the SGS comes preinstalled with Swype, so should I just uninstall that using Titanium Backup, and then install beta Swype? That won't cause any problems?
Also, how do I set a different notification tone for emails, rather than text messages? I did it previously, but forgot how.

Correct. Uninstall the pre-installed Swype if you have it, then install the latest beta. If you go to Swype's website you can sign up and download the latest beta. Likewise, you will find detailed instructions on how to install it.
As for the notifications, keep in mind that each notification will be coming from an app. You will be notified of a text message via your text messaging app, and an email via your email app. So go into whichever app you use for emails and you should find a setting within it to specify the notification sound.

Found it: The correct path is Gmail>menu>more>settings>(your account name)>labels to notify>inbox>then click on ringtone.
Thank you. Will give Swype a go later on.
