Question about HERO - G1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I could have sworn that when I first used the sms widget it prompted me what application I wanted to use for the buttons, compose msg mainly. I can't seem to make it work with handcent sms, even after clearing default programs in application manager. Anyone have any ideas?

Its never asked me what application I wanted to use it with... sorry I'm of no help...

im having a problem, everytime i try to clear my messages from either chompsms or the default messaging problem,i get a force application popup, and im forced to close it or wait, theres no way i can delete my messages, and now im getting fustrated... any help guys? thanks
Do it again, keep hitting wait
Its happened to me. They'll eventually delete.
Also, stop letting your texts build up to like 5000 before you delete There are a few programs out there that will backup your sms to your gmail account.
do you know the names to any of these programs?
SMS Backup on the market is the best one.
theres one that actually backs em up to ur sd as welll but it only works with root users ... not on market

Messaging App not showing any messages....

ever since i started using Hancent SMS, my Default Messaging app doesnt show threads/messages, even when i compose one from the Messaging app, how do i fix this?
stop using hancent sms! Nah... I'm just kidding.
Check with developer (you should be able to get en email either from the app itself or from the market). It could be a known bug or an undocumented feature of the app.
Good luck
im still having this problem. When i open handcent SMS i have like 50 threads of messages, but when i open default Messaging, it doesnt show any, just Compose New Message.....whats goin on?

Just out of curiousity....
Handcent is a default sms/mms replacement application, so why the love affair with the default app? I'm thinking its probably meant to use one or the other, not both. Perhaps once Handcent is installed, it routes everything in the mmssms.db file over to its directory and when its uninstalled it reverts back. Just a thought, of course, it doesn't really help you.
i wanted to start using it since Ted themed it to look more like Hero MMS, i use backuo for root users, so i backed up SMS/MMS and uninstalled Handcent, and then restored SMS.MMS but still wouldnt show up in MMS app

Did you reboot after the restore? You could also try pushing the backed up mmssms.db file from the backup for root users folder directly to the default messaging app's database folder, reboot and see if that works. The default messaging app folder is located here:
Code:
/data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases
i tried that and still nothing, also when i unistalled Handcent, i went into Messaging and tried to send message to myself, and never recieved it, same when i sent myself message from friends phone, somethings not right

handscent sms and messaging both notify, annoying!

Like the title...
I just rooted/cyan'ed my phone and when reinstalling handscent sms I found that both handscent and stock sms notify. I solved this before by uninstalling messaging, but with cyanogen/donut 1.6 doesn't give me the option.
Does anyone know what I can do to disable stock messaging or manually uninstall it.
at all threads in messaging >menu>settings>uncheck "notifications"
Ahhhh...I'm a genious, thankyou!!!!
I have the EVO and I uncehcked notifications and set Handset to auto recieve and mine were still coming to my main one. I just deleted the message icon on my home screen and replaced it with Handscent. I'm only getting one notification but the message was still going to my HTC message one. But it's ok since I replaced the Handscent SMS icon with the messaging one. Handscent is cute.

I have the same problem with the Droid Eris. The screens shots that Hanscent sends are not the same as the phone, when trying to disable the Droid messaging software vs. Handscent. Does anyone know how to disable the Droid messaging software?? I would be more than willing to pay someone who can set up my phone correctly. I live 10 mins. south of LAX in L.A.

htc message widget question...

ok so, i searched and found nothing so i figured I would ask....is there anyway to change the program that the widget goes to? i used handcent at the moment, and if i could use the text widget with it i would love my phone even more....if this is not possible, is there some type of alternative? thanks in advance guys, and sorry if i missed a thread about this already
bump....anyone?
Hmmm...my messages widget will open up into Handcent just fine. The first time I used it, it brought up a window asking which program I'd like to use as the default so I chose Handcent and it's worked just fine ever since. Will yours only open up the default HTC message app? What about if you uninstall Handcent and try installing it again?
It will only open the default messaging app and I tried removing and reinstalling the app but it don't work...
Edit: ok so...I messed up my widget lol, it now opens both spa for different things, when I hit the "open" button it opens the default app buy when I hit the "reply" button it opens handcent lol

just installed cm7, mail is not threaded in app?

hi mates. thanks for reading this. i did a search but it showed no results on this.
i am a first timer nook person and i installed the latest cm7 nightly on my sd card and was able to get it working on the nook. a few questions please as i have never used android before.
1. i set up my mail through the mail app and it works but it doesn't show threading. i have gmail and it only shows single messages instead of grouping. is this normal?
2. i want to use my google voice number to set up text messaging but cannot find where to input this.
3. there are apps and management tabs for phone, voice dialer, etc. things i will never use. can i remove them?
thanks!
figured it out, didn't install gapps.
