ok so, i searched and found nothing so i figured I would ask....is there anyway to change the program that the widget goes to? i used handcent at the moment, and if i could use the text widget with it i would love my phone even more....if this is not possible, is there some type of alternative? thanks in advance guys, and sorry if i missed a thread about this already
bump....anyone?
Hmmm...my messages widget will open up into Handcent just fine. The first time I used it, it brought up a window asking which program I'd like to use as the default so I chose Handcent and it's worked just fine ever since. Will yours only open up the default HTC message app? What about if you uninstall Handcent and try installing it again?
It will only open the default messaging app and I tried removing and reinstalling the app but it don't work...
Edit: ok so...I messed up my widget lol, it now opens both spa for different things, when I hit the "open" button it opens the default app buy when I hit the "reply" button it opens handcent lol

I know there are already sms popup apps out there but I would like to reply straight from the pop up window. Handcent sms has a good example of it but you have to use there messaging application which has a really bad lag. But you can see what I mean here: http://www.handcent.com/images/popup.png
So in a nut shell a sms popup app that you can reply from straight fro.m the pop window that uses the default messaging app.
Thank you all devlopers that take this into consideration

I think you answered your own question. Its called sms popup. You can reply within the pop up window and use the default messenger.

Dont think you understood it correctly .. sms pop up pops up and lets u hit reply which then take you to your messaging app, he wants a pop up that has an input field for the reply text already in it..
The iPhone has an ill one like that...u dont even have to unlock the phone to reply...
you can use the popup from handcent and use your default messaging app. u dont have to use handcent. handcent and the default apps "talks" with eachother and syncs. so anything udo in handcent is done in the default.
all you have to do is turn off all notifications from handcent and enable notifications for default and just use the popup feature from handcent.
or u can try a widget called Text Widget that does something simliar. it too uses the default msg app and it lets u reply within the quick reply box.

Both of those will work for what you want. I just wish smsPopup had the ability to clear the message as new but not look at it.
i love sms pop up never tried the other,,,,,s soon as leds wrk in hero i will go back to it.
also the settings in sms popup is great changes color....and type of vibration
I could have sworn that when I first used the sms widget it prompted me what application I wanted to use for the buttons, compose msg mainly. I can't seem to make it work with handcent sms, even after clearing default programs in application manager. Anyone have any ideas?
Its never asked me what application I wanted to use it with... sorry I'm of no help...
ever since i started using Hancent SMS, my Default Messaging app doesnt show threads/messages, even when i compose one from the Messaging app, how do i fix this?
stop using hancent sms! Nah... I'm just kidding.
Check with developer (you should be able to get en email either from the app itself or from the market). It could be a known bug or an undocumented feature of the app.
Good luck
im still having this problem. When i open handcent SMS i have like 50 threads of messages, but when i open default Messaging, it doesnt show any, just Compose New Message.....whats goin on?

Just out of curiousity....
Handcent is a default sms/mms replacement application, so why the love affair with the default app? I'm thinking its probably meant to use one or the other, not both. Perhaps once Handcent is installed, it routes everything in the mmssms.db file over to its directory and when its uninstalled it reverts back. Just a thought, of course, it doesn't really help you.
i wanted to start using it since Ted themed it to look more like Hero MMS, i use backuo for root users, so i backed up SMS/MMS and uninstalled Handcent, and then restored SMS.MMS but still wouldnt show up in MMS app

Did you reboot after the restore? You could also try pushing the backed up mmssms.db file from the backup for root users folder directly to the default messaging app's database folder, reboot and see if that works. The default messaging app folder is located here:
Code:
/data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases
i tried that and still nothing, also when i unistalled Handcent, i went into Messaging and tried to send message to myself, and never recieved it, same when i sent myself message from friends phone, somethings not right
Hey, I used the search button already, but couldn't find any answers, so I'm creating this thread.
Has anyone here used Google Voice Search to "Text xxx example message" yet?
I tried a few times but it never lets me select handcent as the default app to send the text with. Does anyone know how to get that done?

If i'm correct, it sends the text using the Google Voice Search app, then the message gets displayed in your stock messaging app...or since you use handcent, it will also appear on there too.
Yeah, it "sends" with the voice search app, but when I press send, it asks to use
a. Google Voice
b. Messaging
No handcent option. Have tried re-installing handcent, to no avail.
Just select stock. Basically, you're choosing which service to send the message by--your carrier or GV. If you select stock, it is sent through your carrier, which would also appear in handcent.
Yeah I'm doing that right now. It's just annoying that I can't do it with Handcent.

It doesn't matter what app you're using instead of the stock messaging app, they ALL get sent from your device and the message will appear in ANY messaging app that you use. So in a way, you ARE using handcent even though you're selecting the stock messaging app.
I've done some research and found out that HTC sense offers this. I want to have a pop-up of my text with a quick reply option on my lockscreen. Is there an apparently that can do it for the captivate? I've tries SMS pop-up and go SMS. Neither works and I hate to continuously install apps. Any help is appreciated, thanks!
Handscent does this very well but it tends to work best as a replacement for the default messaging app.

Ok, so.. I've tried all of those, they all suck. I just found this new one called GO MMS or GO SMS or something. It's awesome, customization options, awesome popup ui, quick, try it out.
