Ok you don't need a memory card, but having one helps later and there are many types of micro SD cards out there so make sure you get the right one (some ones will not work or very badly on smart devices. My advice for that would be a minimum of a Class 4 (if your in Europe can help you). You can get a great class 4 32 gig for about €60 and you get a free movie to boot >:¬} check out the best price for the SD32GBHC4OPTSON-EF (product code) PNY Micro SD card
regarding routing this has yet to fail with me
SuperOneClick can get it here http://shortfuse.org/?p=13 and make sure before you connect that you have USB debugging selected, then once that's done just click root and few moments later happy days!
Hope this helps

To convert to rfs (a faster file system-format) you will need three gigas free in your external sd card.
If you eventually want to install the overcome gingerbread rom (hopefully they will port it to the verizon tab), and I recommend that path, it will convert to rfs, so you will need the sd card.
Also, it is helpful to have the sd card as you install apps, so you can install them on the card, and store the data they generate. It saves the space on your internal card for the system.

how do i find out what CLASS an SD card is i went to the story and looked at sandisk ones and i didnt see anything that said the type of class it was.

Printed on the sd card will be a number, 2, 4, or 6. If it has no number it is generally class 2. The higher the number the higher the read/write speed - higher number, faster data transfer - better for you....
I haven't seen any class 6 micro sd cards as yet in Australia or in my searches on the net.
Class 4 32Gb sandisk & kingston card works well... Also have a class 4 32Gb adata card. Works well too...

1 GB Dane-elec Xs work fine on my Qtek 2020i(XDA2i)
you may format card before use
I have you tried any other card in your XDA IIi.
I have a DANE-ELEC 1 GB SD card and a INOV8 512 MB cards
and both work well.
Sorry I can't be of more help
Muzza
Kingston 2 GB (30651-001.A00LF p799861x01)work as well,
maybe i should have purchase a 4 GB
Scandisk 1GB SD card working fine!
transcend 2gb 150x absolutely fine work =))
maybe you have bad card? or maybe format it via cardreader can help..
My Kingston 2GB works great on the device, might be a case of a bad card for you, tried it on any other devices?
Worked
I use Kingston 1Gb SD card... 50x and it works fine... maybe your battery is dying
I think theres still a 4gb SD card at work which I'll give a go tomorrow if I get a chance.
I work at CeX in Brighton, England, and we get a lot of different types of memory cards in. So far I'm just using a standard SanDisk 512mb card, but will eventually get a 2 or 4gb (the 4gb we have is £120 >.<)
Kingston SD Card 1GB works fine on my XDA IIi. What brand do you use anyway?
XDA IIi definately supports up to 4gb (150x) cards.
I just got a "Topram' 4gb 150X...despite formatting both via card reader and my device it will not read...
Does it show the card size in the Memory cp? Or can you just not transfer files to and from it?
neither...as soon as I insert it into the 2i I am asked to format it to make the card ledgible...so I agree...but it still does not show up at all. Neither in memory size menu or file explorer.
I have formatted it via card reader on the compeuer too...It accepts files via card redaer so the card itself is ok.
But every single time I insert it into the PDA it asks me to format it again and it never shows up.
bit off topic but as anyone else had a problem with SD/MMC cards working for a while (sometimes as little as 6 months other times over a year) then totaly stopping ie show as not being there in any card reader, only to come back to life after about 12 months stuck in a draw. I have had this with 2 cards so far and got 1GB card in the draw at the moment which stopped working just as I put some important files onto it
SD Cards
I have a 4GB Transcend, 2GB SanDisk and a 512MB Unbranded and they all work perfectly fine in my xdaIIi, maybe your card reader is a bit iffy?
EDIT: By card reader I mean the bit that you insert the card into the xdaIIi
It may simply be certain makes of cards that work, and certain that dont. All you can do is hope the retailers let you try before you buy

erm... u made sure u formated them as FAT not FAT32? i had no end of probs with my 2020 when i did that, and the 1gb unbranded card i have in my 2020i is FAT and works fine, as most hand helds and camera (i use it in my konica/minolta SLR digital, it hates FAT32 file systems too) format them as that and jobs a good one!

Does a 4GB SD-Card work in Alpine??

Hey guys I`ve bought an Alpine and I want to put a 4GB SD Card in it??
Do you think, it works? Or is the maximium 2 GB, which works in Alpine?
CU
4 gb cards work......mostly.
I've used both the A-Data and the Transcend 4 GB cards on my Alpine. There is only one problem I've experienced. If your 4 GB card is less than half full (i.e. available storage is > 2gb), AND you've configured your camera to save the pictures you take to the SD card directly, then you may experience an error. The error simply says it can't save the SD card. If you card is more than 50% full of other stuff, then there is no problem using the camera application and saving your picutres directly to the SD Card.
I RARELY use my camera, so I really don't care. Plus, I have enough stuff on my SD card so that it never has more than 2 gb of available storage (i.e. its always more than half full). Consequently, this bug in the camera application is really not much of a nussiance.
ok, thank you very much for your reply...
It work, as I had a Kingston 4GB SD Card
without problems??
can you give me some more details about your sd card??
thank you
A 4Gb will work, but it does depend on the make - since, I'm guessing, cheaper makes use cheaper parts. Kingston and SanDisk seem to be pretty good.
I have a generic (samsung oem perhaps?) 4gb SD card and it works fine apart from it seems to be a tight fit in the slot. No problems with it as yet though.
SD card
I used a topram 4GB mini with adaptor and it did not work.
I then bought a Transcend 4GB MMC+ (plus) and it works like a dream.
I hope this helps you.
Watch out that the card is not a sdhc card. SDHC cards look like normally sd cards, but they dont' work on the Alpine.

all sdhc (high capacity) cards have "sdhc" sign so you can easily discern them
only the newest htc devices support sdhc cards
I'm using 4GB Tanscend SD Card with my alpine
and its working fine
Thanks to the advice here, I bought a 4Gb Transcend MMC plus and it works beautifully.
So much space is a real bonus as I have Tomtom maps of Europe, the whole of the USA, 6 or 7 full movies plus 20 or so albums worth of mp3's still with 500mb free for odds & sods.
Hi,
I am using a HAMA 4GB, and it is working more or less fine.
I don't know if it is a card issue or caused by the heat recently in Austria, but my Nav freezes from time to time.
I have to turn the 2020i off and then on, then it works again.
Some days ago, the card suddenly lost some data....
I have a SanDisk 4GB SD Card, however when I put it into my Alpine it doen't seem to recognise it. It just doesn't show up. Can anyone give me any hints on how to force it to look for it or something like that?

Micro SD card speed

Does the speed of the card determine the transfer speed between the Phone and PC or within the Phone itself?
I'm wondering if it's worth the extra 20 to get a class 6 over a class 4.
This has been discussed before. The phone dictates the data transfer speed between the PC and SD card.
So what transfer speed does the Nexus One dictate?
Well..when tommyarmour and I were discussing this in his thread a month ago..neither of us got more than 2mb/s or so using class 4 and 6 cards. Plugging my class 6 directly into my computer's card reader got me over 6.5mb/s.
There are 2 distinct things about SD card performance:
1) If one roots and uses APP2SD method, where N1 stores apps on an EXT* partition on on the _card_ , instead of its own, built-in and very limited flash storage, then one would probably want faster performing card so that apps load faster. Especially if you have a game with tons of textures/scenery
2) Unrelated to #1, faster cards should allow faster transfer rates from one's computer to the N1's SD card - so when you have large music/image libs, those
could be moved on/off device quicker. But it appears that N1 limits such external transfer rates, making it moot to go for faster cards (unless you use APP2SD) . One can get faster rates by yanking the card out and using an external, proper, reader - so that might help if one needs to move say 10GB of music onto the card.
Bottom line: you can spring for 16GB Class 6 Card (Adata's are good, about U$60 on Amazon), save few bux and get slower card or wait another month for 32GB cards to appear in stores and make your decision _then_

I got lucky. I won my 16GB class 6 micro SD card. I do, however, wish to get another 16GB card but don't want to spend the money so I'm waiting for the 32GB to come out and the 16GB to drop in price. 8GB is just not enough for music, apps2sd and nadroid/ext backups. I've been having to compromise and either keep only one nandroid on my SD card or cut down on my music (which I hate doing). A 32GB card would be GOLDEN but I don't even want to think about what that's going to cost.

Thanks for the explaination. Now do you think anybody out there is trying to 'open' up this limitation of the N1's transfer speed? Hope so...I thought I had an adapter...so I ordered a card without an adapter...but, now I can't find it!
BTW...I sprung for a 16GB class 6. Was a present...so why not.

[Q] [HD+] Which types of SD cards are best for my situation

Hi all, a few questions here if you don't mind. I'm a recent owner of a HD+ and have had a great time with it but I am ready to get CM on it now. At first I wanted to dual-boot using either Hybrid or Pure but now I think I'm going to just to EMMC.
I have a lot of comics I want to store, if I'm using EMMC is there no problem using a 64gb class 10 card? From what I've read it seems that class 10 cards only cause problems if you are booting from the SD card?
If I do go hybrid or pure, it is better to use a class 4 (32gb max?) card for this correct?
I do think that I am just going to go the EMMC route, does doing this erase everything already on the Nook or just the OS? (I need to remove any other media myself?)
Thanks a lot for reading all that, and any help is much appreciated!
Installing CM into EMMC will erase every userdata and OS on it.
As long as you want to just store files on it, you can go and get the 64GB one.
My experience with those classes are that, that Class 10 is only fast for big continously written files like videos or songs in high quality.
Lower classes or non classified ones are often MUCH faster at tiny to medium sized files with much access on different adresses.
Backup everything, do a backup via SD recovery, then make factory reset via SD recovery and install CM10.1 plus GApps.
I am a HD+ owner since today and I have chosen to go directly to CM10.1 stable emmc, because I already had experience with SD ROMs from my old HTC HD2 (RIP) and I hated the lags and everything...
(I hate every vendor made bloatware that is stacked onto Android...)
The only thing I can say after my first day with vanilla CM10.1 is, THIS TABLET+PRICE+CM10.1 = AWESOME
Hello,
I hope you're well, and I hope you're enjoying your Nook. Installing CyanogenMod on the Nook was the best thing I ever did (at the time Stock didn't have Google Play), so I hope you too enjoy CM.
Personally I do believe that installing CM10.1.3 (stable) on EMMC for general usage is the best way to go. I'd avoid CM10.2 for now, until a RC or stable version is released.
If you're running CyanogenMod (CM) on EMMC, there should be no problems at all as regards to what SD card you use. The storage size or class should not matter when on EMMC; although higher class is tied with better performance. The whole best SD card to use is 4GB class 4 arose when we didn't have the EMMC method of installation; back then we used to boot/install the whole CM on the SD card. Now, I don't think your SD card is as important - anything is a go, after all you're using it for storage only.
If you do go Hybrid or Pure, yes a class 4 SanDisk SD card is best. 4GB is also recommended, but you can go higher if you desire. If you do install on SD card, I'd recommend going Hybrid and not Pure. Out of the two, I'd just go EMMC (EMMC > Hybrid > Pure). However, if you do install on EMMC, everything will be erased on your internal; this includes your stock ROM, and all data/apps. You will however have all your B&N books saved on the B&N cloud.
All the best, any more questions please feel free to ask.

I back this statement.
Thanks for your replies guys!
You pretty much cleared up any confusion/questions I had regarding this. Pretty sure I'm going to just do EMMC. Plus even with the GooglePlay on the Nook now, I still have a lot of games that aren't compatible or are from Humble Bundles, so I don't think I'll have much use for stock.
One more question and I'll leave you guys alone. I have a USB MicroSD card reader I got somewhere years ago. Am I to assume the newer microsdcards won't work with this? I'll have to keep an eye out for a good deal on both. Thanksfully black friday is only a month away in the US

Haha, no problem at all! We're glad we could help.
Regarding your MicroSD card reader; it shouldn't be a problem, as SD cards haven't changed over the years - only the storage capacity. As long as your card reader can read MicroSD cards, and can write to them, you should be good to go. Of course however, I don't know what card reader you have, so there could be problems. I'm assuming it should be safe though.
All the best.

Nope, SD-Card Readers aren't compatible with SDHC/SDXC Cards as there are some differences.
SDHC-Cardreaders are compatible with every type.
SD-Reader --> SD -/-> SDHC/XC
SDHC/XC-Reader --> SD --> SDHC/XC
SD-Card = <4GB
SDHC-Card = >=4GB to 32GB
SDXC-Card = >=64GB to 2TB

"Versatile — 9-in-1 USB card reader that works with SD, SDHC, MMC, MMCplus, MMCmobile, RS-MMC, microSD, and miniSD, MMCmicro"
Seeing as it lists the SD and mircosd compatibilities separate, am I right to assume it cannot read the micro sdxc cards I am going to need?

As it supports SDHC, your reader should be good to go with microSDHC cards.

Question about increasing storage please

Hi can someone tell me if my note 4 already comes w SD card? I'm out of storage all of a sudden and not sure what or if or what kind of card to buy. Will this mame the phone faster. So slow lately.
Also, if I do buy one not sure size, brand, etc.
Thanks guys
No, the note 4 does not come with an external SD card. It has 32gb of internal storage and if you filled that up then you will have to buy an external SD card. Just buy either a 16 or 32 or hell even a 64gb SD card....brand wise I guess San disk that's what mine is and I've never had issues with any of mine.
The Note 4 supports SD cards. You'd have to buy one that suites your needs.
On another note, have you tried clearing your cache? Checking out what is taking up all your memory? Might want to check these first.
Note for does support SD card. I have a 128gb SD card on my note 4 that works like a charm.
Sent from my SM-N910T3 using Tapatalk
Samsung is known to have problem with sandisk cards. For peace of mind stay with samsung brand of sd cards. Putting card in phone wont solve your problem instantly. You will need to do some work first. Move all your pictures, videos and music to sd card to offload internal storage. Use aplication manager and move some of yours apps to sd card. Setup your canera aplication to use sd card while taking pictures. Use Smart Manager to clean unnecessary files.
Thread moved to proper forum.
