gingerbread update without sprint?
Has anyone figured out how to get the gingerbread update for a sprint galaxy tab when you don't have a sprint account?
Mine was refurbished, and wifi is all I really need, and sprint doesn't offer anything less than a 2 year contract for $240.

If you looked around, there's plenty about the updates that came out OTA, and the files (I posted them) to manually update as well. Check the Development section. (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1156605)

It'll still come OTA. I got the nag screen for the update and I don't have a data plan and I"m just wifi only. I've also got all the Sprint stuff turned off with Titanium. Once it's rooted, I'm going to take the update, but not before.
I put the sprint rom 2.2 back on and un rooted my tab and did a reset and my tab updated ro 2.3 gingerbread and now every thing is just the was it was when I got it new..and works way better ans it get ota updates now..

I've been searching and googling, and reading for a couple of days.
thanks for posting the direct link, but how could I have found it? I can't even get it to show up in a search through any combo I've tried.
Check the different Galaxy Tab forums here on XDA?

Is this possible and if so, how can I do this?
Thanks.
well technically i believe it is possible buuuttt... I think there would be two requirements:
1) Sprint would have to unlock the device.
2) Verizon would have to be willing to enable it on their network - I read somewhere the reverse is NOT true - Sprint is unwilling to activate a phone that was not purchase from them where the phones ESN is not already in their database.
Is there anymore information in regards to this. ALso if you root it could you get the msl number just like a phone?
The other way around
I have a Sprint tab that will never be connected to anything other than wifi. Can I flash a Verizon specific rom without breaking other features of the tablet? Thanks
BTW. I thought it might be better to bump and old thread than start a new one.

What rom are you looking to flash? I flashed the CM7 from rootzwiki on my sprint tab and that was labeled as vzw... in fact my status bar says Verizon wireless now lol but other than that I have no issues, I use my tab wifi only as well
SGT+CM7=AWESOMENESS!!!
I have a new Verizon tab coming in I'm willing to trade it for a great condition sprint tab

So I bought the Galaxy Note international for my wife for her birthday. I full well knew that I wont be getting any official support from Samsung US. Those people are so incompetent anyways that its not really a loss. So I have a few questions for those of you who are using this device in USA.
1. Have you guys in US gotten the ICS update yet?
I ask because I am getting conflicted information everywhere.
2. If the hardware is international version, why does the country matter?
Very confused about this. I thought the good thing about having international version is that I wont need to wait for ATT to get off their backside to release updates.
3. Is there any way I can make my device simply talk to German or Indian servers to get the update?
I have rooted android devices before, so I am no stranger to the process. I would rather not do it on a device I am not using, simply because I want to keep getting official updates, without having to keep up with news on the device. So rooting to German ROM is the option only if Samsung has its head up its arse and update doesn't arrive this year at all.
Thanks for your help guys!

Your beat bet is to get a device from a region where ics is already released. It doesn't matter what country you're in, only if the country your device is from gets ics I believe. Not only is the updates better than ATT but I specifically got it for the hardware/ devs

Thanks for the reply man. How do I find out what region the device was made for? It came with what I believe Russian documentation. Is there any way to know 100% sure? Using some serial number or something like that?
I want to say you can tell by the stock Baseband version that phone has, but I'm not 100% sure. Where did you buy this Note from? Amazon sells Brazil and Germany based ones for the most part I have heard. I bought mine on eBay and I THINK it is Germany, but not sure totally and I'm already custom and everything.
On the other hand, there might not be a way to tell what country you are on and how to get updates since you live in the states. I'm in the US too on ATT but ATT will have nothing to do with this Note. (They couldn't even recognize the IMEI number when I went into the store when I first bought it). Didn't know about the different model Notes until I got home and looked on XDA.
Andrew, I am on ATT as well but as my wife doesn't need a data plan (Wifi available everywhere we go), ATT doesn't even know that her line has a smartphone. Else they would push a useless data plan on us. Also, I got it from a third part seller at Amazon. Those people were as useful as a stick. Asked them where they get their stock from and never heard back.
If there is a way to find out country of origin, I would like to know. I've spent countless hours doing research on this, and for the first time, I have not been able to figure out a cellphone problem.
Also, I take it you already got your ICS update if your phone is German?

No, I didn't do an OTA update or Kies. I just PC Odined ICS, but now I'm on a CM9 build. If you are comfortable flashing and stuff, I would say just use PC Odin.
Hello friends. I have a simple question to ask. I am on At&t and up until recently was using the 717, however, being the android fanatic that i am it just wasnt good enough so i had to go out and buy a brand new N7000 off of ebay to see what all the fuss was about. Within the first day i knew immediately. Much smoother and more fluid then the 717. Who needs the LTE anyway right i mean wont be anywhere near me for awhile so just a wasted feature as far as im concerned. Anyways the baseband version is N7000UBKK1. Im on Att and the phone was new and unlocked when i purchased it. My question is how exactly will my phone be upgraded to ics under these set of circumstances? I know that samsung and att are working on an ics release for the 717 but what happens with my phone. Im not a noob by far as ive been doing this awhile and just cant seem to find any answers. Trying to stat away from the custom roms and leaks but will that be my only option. Any advice will be greatly appreciated and thanks in advance.

Hello Jack, my N7000 had the same baseband and though I live in Venezuela, a few weeks back I only had to connect my note to Kies (this is the one I installed: Kies_2.3.2.12054_18_2) it downloaded and installed Stock ICS without any issues (even when my phone was rooted).
Hope it works for you.
Regards.
Kies ota update
Thanks for the advice however i have registered it on my computer through kies and was unsuccessful in finding an update. Upon setting my phone up for the first time on the network i got a system message saying that it was registering and then after it was done i noticed that at&t was branded onto the device. Had a little problem setting up the new apn but now everything working well. As you said though your device has already been updated through ota officially maybe this is somehow connected with the carrier your device is registered to. Being that mine wasnt technically designated to att because they had a different version of the model will mine now be left out in the cold because of this.

Thats odd. As your my device is unbranded/unlocked, but never got "branded" after network registration, I work here with Movistar (a Telefonica subsidiary). Never got an OTA update, no matter how many time I checked for it and on june 11th, I plugged the phone to my PC opened Kies and it showed an update avaiable.
I think yours should also be able to get the update. Regretfully I can't try for now since I'm running Paranoid v0.4
Hope you can solve this easily.
Well i will certainly look up that software version for my note. I may or may not be running the same kies version that was previously installed with my at&t note so that may be my problem. From what you were saying there is no network logo on your lockscreen or drop down menu? I did notice that when i first turned my phone on it was set up in spanish along with all the included included accessories so it does make sense that this would be the south american version. Accordingly what version of the official ics update did you get? Would there be any potential problems with me doing a manual flash of this rom that you can forsee. All that talk about the infected ics roms and kernels has got me really worried about flashing anything unofficial ics wise but i am an impatient man when it comes to waiting on these sluggish carriers to release updates. With att there is no telling if youll ever see an update. Please provide me with the official version of ics that is designated for my version and i will flash it. Thanks
I'm actually having the same problem. I bought mine from the UK Amazon (I'm from the UK as suggested) and mine seemed to have been imported from Spain because it came in a Spanish box. The supplier was Samsung and many people had reviewed the product. I just don't seem to be getting an update for my phone. I've waited and waited, and now I'm hearing people are being updated to Jellybean :/
Does anyone know if there is a version that could be used on Bell in Canada? Isn't AT&T usualy cross compatible? Would an unlocked AT&T version be usable?

I am currently using an unlocked S4 Active i537 from AT&T on the Bell network. Only problem I have is you can't use WiFi Tethering without rooting, disabling TetheringProvisioning.apk and running an App like FoxFi.
Either of my fellow Canadians able to OTA update for 4.4.2?
No I wasn't able to get the OTA. I kept getting "your software is up to date check back in 24 hours". So I downloaded the *.cfg file from the "Android 4.4 KitKat now available for S4 Active" thread and ADB sideloaded it.
Mind posting a link to where you found the instructions on how to sideload? Thanks

This is for a Nexus device but the procedure is pretty much the same. I entered Recovery mode by turning off the phone, pressing and holding "Volume Up, Home and Power" at the same time then as soon as you see the Samsung boot up logo release the buttons.

where did you get the package for the s4 active OTA ?

Wow, that is prety significant problem. Hmm... I have seen unbranded i537 phones available for $400 USD. That is a little too pricy for me. Maybe that price will come down now that the S5 is out....

The reason I am looking at the Active is for the IP67 rating. However, it looks like I can get a subsidised S5 (also with IP67) for less than the S4 Active. I guess the Active also has better impact resistance though...
I assume my idea would work but here is the issue:
My wife has an unlocked ATT Galaxy S5 that we are now using on T-Mobile. Obviously she can't get the recent security updates and marshmallow when it comes out. I don't really want to go the odin route with her phone and risk our marriage (lol) with wiping her data. If I put a sim card from ATT from a friend in her phone, it should then allow it to receive updates correct? I assume our old sim card, which is not associated with a number on the ATT network would not work.
I'm not sure. I'm on AT&T and I can't get the last two or three updates to even register on my phone. Usually someone uploads an OTA zip that you can boot into recovery mode and install, but the latest ones have been neglected. Hopefully someone with more knowledge of the situation can give you a better answer, though.
I'm currently using Net 10 service on my Att S5 active and seem to get OTA updates.

Hmmmmm that's interesting. Maybe, then, we don't need to worry about them coming eventually.
Unfortunately not seeing the Marshmallow update via my ATT S5 running on T-Mobile. The phone says it is "up to date"......

Same here. It's really a bit of a shame. I'm thinking of selling line on swappa just to turn around and buy the t-mobile variant so I can root

If I can I'm going to try a friends att sim card in it to see if it can then download it.
If you throw an AT&T sim in, make sure its from an android device with LTE. Cruise the web a little a make a phone call. reboot after 15 minutes so AT&T's systems recognize your model and software before trying the software update.
Although the best bet would be taking it either to a AT&T service center or a Samsung shop in Best Buy, they can flash the update for you w/o wiping it
you can backup the device with Samsung smart switch on a laptop and keep most of everything just in case anything happens.
Flash PA2 firmware through ODIN and then these through recovery:
