[Q] HTC Incredible S won't turn on - HTC Incredible S

Hi, I'm a noob on xda-developppers so yea, everybody hates me. But I would really appreciate any kind of help with this problem, which is:
I have had my htc incredible s for about a month now, and I love it. Only problem is, recently, it started crashing for no apparent reason and upon restarting, I send a troubleshoot message to htc. This has happened 8 times, and now the phone has crashed and refuses to start. The alarm woke me up at night and everything was fine with the phone, so I went back to sleep and 15 minutes later it refused to start. I've tried changing battery, charging, hooking it up to the computer... Nothing works, and it won't even acknowledge that it is being charged. I have no idea why it is doing this, especially since it's only a month old!
Can anyone help?

Restore to factory settings?

if that doesn't work, return it to HTC, might be hardware. i assume you're not yet flashing any custom ROMS right?

Try a factory reset as cardiii suggested ... If that dosent fix it ... Run a ruu ... If that dosent work either ... Then get a replacement ...
This might be cuz of some app u installed ... Anything installed before this happend?

Why don't you try to root and flash some roms to make a change with your phone ? I tried and that's so great.

Claim it and ask for new. Looks like HW issue.

Apply alpharevx and install custom roms !!!
or if u have a S-OFF Phone then Use ADB and get your phone rooted and install clockworldmod recovery !!!. Try getting your phone booted for once atleast and do not turn off , till you complete these Steps and install a custom ROM !!!
Looks like a bad application is causing it....

phone vibrates even when switched off! - please help

ok so i got my htc one a couple of days ago and it sees to have a serious problem!
Basically the phone goes through stages of random vibrating every few mins to full on constant vibrating like there is a fan or motor buzzing in there. It even does it if the phone is switched off! Ive just had an episode of it vibrating no stop for 10 mins, didnt make a difference when i switched it off or when i factory reset it!
It seems to overheat or something and only stopped doing it after i had just left it for a while. I have tried to speak with htc about it but they were useless and had no suggestions what soever.
I really need some help here, i bought the phone privately and to all intense purposes it seemed like brand new

SO you CAN NOT exchange the phone?
if not... root your phone and flash different rom that should resolve problem...at least give it a try!

No cant exchange it, only option i might have if i cant get the problem ressolved on here would be to send it to htc for repair but can take up to 2 weeks.
when i got the phone it was still on 4.1 and told me update available to 4.2 so i did that. Thats all i have done , apart from unlocking it from 02 using a code.
its almost like on a computer when its being worked hard etc that you here the fan cut in, thats what it seems like except it sounds like the buzz you get when you first start the phone. sometimes it does this just once every few mins or so, other times it will start doing it and not stop...even when switched off.....everything else on the phone seems to work fine

Did the device get wet at some point? Sounds like a hardware problem if a factory reset didn't solve the problem.
There's a slight chance it could be a real bad app or an issue with the rom. Maybe running a stock RUU for your device if you can find it might help.
Pretty sure it hasent got wet .
Would be happy to put stock Rom back on it but not sure how I go about reflashing it .
Don't know if this normal or not but when I did a factory reset I thought the device would be wiped completely, all my pictures and videos etc however when I set it back up again I found some videos on there still that I had downloaded to the phone off the net.
Maybe it's not wiping itself correctly either?

Resetting the device should wipe everything and bring it to the same condition as new.
Go to settings>>Backup & Reset>>Reset phone>>now check "Erase all data", then tap "OK".
If that doesn't work, try to do a factory reset from the bootloader.

Factory reset will wipe the device but leave the contents of the sdcard untouched which explains why your vids are still there
Appreciate the help guys, thankyou
So, is there any benifit to wiping the device completely over and above what I've done allready?
Today the phone has just done the odd sudden vibration as if you were just booting up, around 5 times in total, nowhere near as bad as last night, don't know why that would be.
Would it be possible to reflash standard firmware?
Is so how would I do it. Phone is completley standard and was in 4.1 prior to the ota update to 4.2, could 4.2 be the problem?

IC, but you do have the option to erase the sdcard (storage) from the reset phone menu in settings.

I'd try it. You can back up your pics and music on your PC via HTC Sync first.
Ok so I have tried it but no joy
Still getting the random buzzing/vibration for no apparent reason.
Could it be a bug with the update to 4.2.2?
Can I go back to 4.1?
I'm at my witts end with this now

Don't think it's a bug with 4.2.2 but a hardware issue.
Couple of other things to try ; download "CID Getter" from the play store, run it and find out your device's CID number. Now search on Google or xda for the RUU for your device's CID number. Download the RUU.exe to your pc, connect your phone to the pc and run the RUU.exe. This will bring the phone back to stock 4.1..
Or you can unlock the bootloader and flash another rom. Step by step instructions can be found on xda
Sorry, don't know of any easy solutions.

thanks for sticking with me on this :good:
I have just followed a a video on here on how to unlock the bootloader and s-off and root - so now good to go
not sure how i put a new firmware on here now though..going to have to do a bit more reading....
i think to start with ill try downloading standard htc 4.1 rom when i can figure out which one it is and how i put it on and then go from there.
ok so just to update this....
last night i have tried the standard google edition rom on my phone and for the first few hours all seemed fine untill 4am this morning when i was woked by the phone doing its random vibrating thing...it was just sat by the side of my bed on charge
Can only think it must be a hardware issue now...but still dont know what or what is triggering it

You tried everything so it's has to be a hardware issue. Maybe the vibration starts when the device gets warm. Sorry we couldn't fix it.

My HTC one has been doing the same thing. Vibrating randomly even when powered down. Brought it back to Sprint and had them order me a new phone. The only way to stop it from vibrating when powered down was to bang it on a hard surface, then it would stop. Crazy!
Vibrating non stop
My HTC One had been vibrating cotinuously too. I kept slapping the upper part of the phone to stop it from vibrating. However, this worked for the initial few days only. Later, it continued to vibrate continuously without stopping at all ! In the night I left the phone in the other room while it was still vibrating and the next morning the phone wouldn't charge at all! Now the phone is not booting/ charging. It is dead! Any leads?
EDIT: I slapped the upper part again, it suddenly woke up from the dead! It is charging now, the LED is red too!! But it is still continuously vibrating. I have left it to charge as of now, but please help with this vibrating problem. Any ideas?
I've had the same issue with my M7 today.
There were no software updates or any new apps lately.
It all emerged when i was pressing the home button (to exit from some app) and at the same time an incomming call started.
I have tried:
switching it off - did not help
Changing volume setting silent\vibe\sound a couple of times - no effect
Soft reset - no help
Hard reset - no help
Slapping with upper side of the phone against my had - helped for some time, the it started again
Seems like hardware issue.
Currently working solution for me:
Switch off the option "Vibrate on keypress" in Settings ==> Sound & notification
UPD: had to turn off all the vibrations
So far so good. Apparently there is some issue with vibe motor, and it just does not stop. I assume that by disabling that option it is not getting started and thus no constant vibe follows.
UPD 2 Fixed:
Issue reoccurred on hitting the device against my palm.
Had to disassemble it, there are a couple of instructions on youtube, i used plastic cards.
Motor was spinning even with a switched off device. Had to unplug and plug the motor a couple of times and it helped.
Turned on all vibrations in settings, no issues so far.
Hope that helps.

[Q] HELP - S3 Mini does not boot

Hey guys,
after spending some time in the forum and not finding an answer to my problem I decided to ask you guys directly. So here is the situation I'm facing:
My girlfriends sister owns a S3 mini and it suddendly went dead. She tried to turn in on the other morning but there is nothing happening. No flashing of the screen, no sound, just plain dead. She did not install any custom roms or unlocked the bootloader or something. The phone is basically running with stock rom and there were no modification made.
So she asked me if I could help her with that.+
I tried then to enter download mode, as I read that that should be possible, but again nothin is happening. I tried to remove the battery for about 10 min and put it back in and tried charging it although the phone shows no sign that it is being charged when plugged in.
So this is when I started to search for similiar problems and found out that there is a problem with the S3 (not the mini) called "sudden death". but since I own a mini this seems impossible as well. Maybe you guys got an idea. Thanks in advance.
Oh and I tried a different battery as well. Nothing changed

I believed what you encounter with that s3 mini is called a "deadboot". Same thing happened to me when i was fixing a Samsung phone couple days ago with Bootloop problem, I flash the new firmware and the phone was fix then i was browsing the settings and poofed! just went off and won't turn on. I'm sorry to bring the bad news here , but she will have to visit a phone technician, it's a problem with the JTAG pads of the phone.

Strange problem with BSOD on the ONE

Hi everyone.
I would like to report a pretty fightening situation I faced with my ONE this morning.
I was at a coffe shop conected with wifi and at some point I tried to run Antutu (which I had done lots of time since the 31st of October that I got my One) the dvice gave me a notification that Antutu didnt work and If I wanted to report the problem.
I did click on the report the problem and the phone became unresponsive.
I pressed the power button to see if I can restart the phone but instead the screen became black and would turn on.
Pressing power button long the capacivity buttons were flashing and thats all.
I returned home and I connected it to the charger but the LED light didnt come on.
I tried immediately to turn the device on and to my delight it did boot and worked fine.
I also noticed tryibg quadrant benchmark this afternoon did not work.
Almost performed the test but then it stopped of course I didnt push harder and uninstall quadrant and antutu as well.
Has anyone faced this before?
If that happens again how can I reboot the phone to escape the frozen screen?
That sounds like defective hardware. I think you need to exchange for a new one or send to HTC to be fixed.

Since its working and its fully functional I think I can leave without the prety much useless benchmark apps.
Funny part is that this is a replacement phone from HTC Europe because my HTC ONE X had a BSOD problem after they replaced my mainboard and battery after another problem.
All in all it was a deja vu for me to see my almost 10 days old HTC ONE do the same problem the HTC ONE X displayed.
Maybe there is some kind of curse on me.
There is an ex-girlfriend I suspesct........
I have a similar problem with my HTC One, which i bought back in July.
Sometimes the phone refuses to wake up, i have to hold the power key, together with the home key to make it reboot.
Other times the screen refuses to turn off and only rebooting as described above helps.
I waited for the upgrade to Android 4.3, hoping the problem would be fixed.
Unfortunately it didn't help. I also tried to hard reset and initialize the phone a couple of times, also without luck.
I also tried to run the phone without my apps to be sure the problem was not caused by any one of them.
Yesterday i initialized again and the phone worked without problems, so this morning i added WhatsApp.
Everything worked ok for a couple of hours, so i added 2 more apps (news reader and an app to control the heating).
After a few hours the problem reoccured so i removed the last 2 apps and rebooted. After a couple of minutes it got stuck again.
Since i'm struggling with this problem for some weeks now and it seems to become worse, i decided to request HTC to repair or replace my phone.
Two of my friends also own a HTC One and don't have this problem.
Maybe you should also consider to get in touch with HTC.
Good luck!

Stock ROM android 4.3 Sense 5.5
I sent it to HTC for repair a week ago.
I will post their finding after it has been returned.

[Q] Xperia V keeps on rebooting.

Hey XDA,
I hope you guys can help me with this annoying problem I am having with my Xperia V.
Two weeks ago I flashed UniQue3 on my phone since I was pretty satisfied with the previous version and I wanted to try the new one. (I had stock installed before that, since it had android 4.3).
Then crazy stuff started happening: My phone would just reboot when I was typing a message or browsing the web. No biggy, this happened before sometime as well. This time it was different. It happened constantly. I could not use Whatsapp for longer than 5 min before my phone just rebooted. Funny thing is this only happened when I was not charging it. It happened while charging it as well, but not nearly as often, maybe once every 5 hours.
My phone would not shut down either if I did not use my screen. I can listen to music for hours without it rebooting, but as soon as I try to answer or even read a message my phone reboots...
So I thought it might be the ROM. I installed CyanogenMod and at first it was better. But after two days everything started again. I am really confused as to what is wrong and I can't find a proper answer online. Some say it's Android 4.3, others say it's the battery.
So I was hoping you guys could help me out.
Greetings,
Krytos.
Try flashing the stock Rom and see if the problem still happens
Sent from my HTC One_M8 using XDA Free mobile app
Just flashed the stock rom and it did not help. Issue is still present.
Which tells you it's a hardware prob = bacterie
Yeah, that's what I thought. Gladly I bought a battery like three days ago, so I hope that will fix my issues.
maybe hardware problem of battery or even board.
Try to lock boot loader if it is open.

[Q] Hard briked S3 mini out of nowhere

I have the feeling I'm going to get repetitive here guys, but I've been reading the troubleshooting threads for over an hour and couldn't find an answer to help me.
Last saturday I was to lazy to move from the couch, so I watched as my S3 Mini ran out of battery. I got the "phone is turning off" screen as usual. Later I went to bed, but as I needed my alarm to go off in the morning I tried turning it on again, and nothing* happened. Plugged it on the wall, nothing*. Replaced the battery, nothing*. Gave it a good half hour plugged, and as you can guess, nothing*.
* when I say nothing, I mean it won't light up, won't vibrate, won't wink for me, won't load any kind of error, it's actually just like if you were trying to turn on a phone without any battery connected, no grasp of life comes from its poor soul.
The only moment I could see some action on the device is when I tried connecting it on the PC a few hours ago, as it installed drivers to Windows. Right after installing the drivers however, it won't show in the file explorer. I've tried to detect it with a few development tools such as ORT and Odin and there was no sucess either. Download or Recover mode will not work as well.
One thing I think worth mentioning, is that ever since I rooted it a couple of years ago, whenever I tried to recharge it while it was off, the standard "green charging battery" would never appear. What would appear on the screen was a freezed loading icon (the one that keeps roling again and again, but frozen). This particular issue never came off, even reseting it or installing new ROMs.
I always used Maclaw's, some of the latest 4.x, because I tought the 5.x was to heavy for the s3 minis.
I've read some about USB JIGs and stuff, but what makes me very curious is what the heck?! The phone was working just fine, the battery runs out and I have a brick? Is this possible? Can anyone tell me any work around?
I apologize for possible grammar mistakes.

try to plug in the phone into charger & leave it there like 20 mins or more. battery loads then.
then try access samsung download mode, if you cant the phone is probably useless (brick for ever) because itslike mthe last standing thing.
& sorry i say that but thats typically samsung behaviuor. there allways this kind of threads in the samsung forums of xda... other manufacturer can mostly be restored or atleast you know what make it dead.
Exactly the same problems happening to me.
This is my thread:

Can you try to follow what appears on this link? (I can't by now because my PC is broken)
I think won't do nothing because you won't be able to access to the recovery mode on android, as me, but to try...

Hi there,
Thank you for your interest but I have passed this point already. Tried a brand new battery I had laying down in the drawer (which was fully charged with an universal charger) and there is no answer to any attempt of turning it on. Via recovery, download or normal boot.

Can you try to follow what appears on this link? (I can't by now because my PC is broken)
I think won't do nothing because you won't be able to access to the recovery mode on android, as me, but to try...

Hello there,
I'm sorry to hear I'm not the only one affected by this bug (lets call it a bug). This shows there is a lack of concern from Samsung on dealing with this issues, and thus we see that old programmed obsolescence.
I will try that later on the weekend, and I come back here with an report.
Cheers

im really sorry for you that this phone is dead. just can give you 1 advice, dont buy samsung in future.
I have been repaired my phone successfully!!!
I just needed to change two capacitors on its motherboard, and that's it.
Here the video where I have found the info and how to do that. It's in Spanish but easy to understand for you I think. But if you need some help, send me a PM.
can you take a picture from the location of the 2 capasitors and the types of it
Hi everyone.
I have some news. It took me a while but I followed CrashOverride93's advice on that video. It actually solved one issue, as I now can turn it on, but now I have a second problem, I'm stuck on a boot loop, with acess to Download mode ONLY. No recovery.
Considering where my issue started, and where I am now, I have tried the following:
- Flashed via Odin stock ROM, kernel;
- flashed Wipe;
- flashed PARAM;
- three button combo.
So far I couldn't get it pass the boot loop. Any thoughts?
