stuck in bootloop with no buttons responding. - G1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

im trying to help a friend out. im a bit new to HTC as i have a D2G myself.
...anyway...she has a G1 stuck in a bootloop. no button combo while booting up will work. when you plug into the computer, the computer wont see it. holding Alt+W wont work either.
she was running a custom rom and reverted to cupcake. she obviously made a mistake and now she cant get into fastboot or bootloader.
any help would be great. thx

If power+camera or power+home = Nothing then the phone is bricked and can only be rescued using the jtag technique.

Thx...but I guess she's just going to get a new phone instead of payin for a jtag fix.

First of all does it go to a bootscreen or just the G1 screen?

1. When on the solid X, try pressing the power button while holding down the trackball and volume down key. A screen with 3 androids on skates should come up.
2. Wait on this screen for 5 seconds until the RECOVERY option shows up in the list.
3. Use the Volume Down key to scroll down to RECOVERY.
4. Once RECOVERY option is selected, press the Power button to boot into recovery
Are you using Apps2SD with your custom ROM by any chance?
i can enter bootloader and fastboot mode by pressing tackball and power button, but when i select the recovery mode its stuck on x logo and doesnt responds... is my device bricked???
i am on cynogenmod 6.1.1
If you can enter the boot loader and fastboot mode, then try clearing the storage by choosing the CLEAR STORAGE option on that screen. Beware however, this will be as good as resetting your phone and will wipe all data - I mean contacts, SMSs ... everything. Then select REBOOT on that same screen to reboot your phone. Hope this helps
Also, if you haven't installed a radio or HBOOT incorrectly yesterday before switching off your phone, then the possibility of it having bricked is quite low.
i tried clearing the storage and tried rebooting the device from the options but its still stuck on boot logo...
Remove the battery, keep it like that for 5-10 min and then boot it up again. If it still doesn't work PM me your alternate no. I will call you up.
no its still not working... i tried removing battery for 20mins... but still same case...
reflash a working recovery, flash a stock rom, enjoy your phone again.
Came across this post while googling around

Seems very much like the issue you have.
i tried flashing a working recovery but still it doeasnt works... all i can see a multicoloured boot logo... please help me out guys...
i tried flashing amonRA recovery image but when i try to enter recovery its stuck on x logo... i've tried other recovery images too but anything doesnt works at all
Try the unroot/restore guide in the wiki, restoring FRG33 with the passimg method. If that doesn't work, you may have to call HTC...

i hav tried unroot/restore method... but it isnt working...
it fired up somehow....but no soung screen isnt responding now
buttons are also not working and power wake also isnt working.... please help what could be the problem....it took more than 30 mins to turn on dis device... & after that nothing was responding...
hey i had the same problem before even now what i did was went back to android 2.1 but when i installed some program like advance task killer it showed some ram less not some actually alot before advance task killer used to say 220mb ram available now it says 118mb available since android 2.2 needs more ram it's not loading properly cuz that's what mine did now i am looking for the solution to get my inactive ram.
Advance task killer kills all the app so now way the ram is still there even if it was being used the app would have closed the ram which it did but still it shows android 2.1

My N1 is having exactly same problem as yours... I need help too, pls?
Clear the Dalvik cache and reboot
guys i got my nexus one back on track... it was a major hardware issue... it had nothing to deal with firmware...i got it repaired now from a professional device repairperson...
.... its working fine now... thanks for all the support from all the members...
I call shenanigans on the Professional repair persons advice to you.
I'm an Android noob, and i know that if you can get into bootloader, you're not bricked. I've recovered some scary **** from that vantage point in my few weeks here.
I'm glad you got your phone working again. I do hope that repair person didn't charge you Hardware Repair prices to do it though.

[Q] Will USB JIG Work Failproof in My Case?

Hi all,
So my cappy is stuck in a boot loop after something went wrong with CM7. However, mine is a phone with a locked 3 button combo and even after CM7 RC1 I was unable to get unable to get into download mode with the button combo, which is weird because it should work on CM7.
And plz don't tell me to try again because I have done it atleast 50 times. So I was considering trying a USB JIG. When stuck in boot loop I see the CM7 logo and then it goes to recovery and gives an error saying that it is unable to mount the sd card. Then it goes back into its cycle.
I just want to know if this USB JIG is failproof and will guarantee on putting my phone in Download mode. If not then I wouldn't want to waste 5.99 on it.

I wouldn't mind purposefully screwing up my phone with water and sending it in to Samsung after applying bleach to the white indicator . That's a last resort of course.
Thanks!
as long as theres signs of life a jig will work. if u dont wanna spend $6 u could always build one for a couple dollars at radioshack for some resistors and microUSB if u dont have a spare connector. you can find some tuts on how to build a ghetto rigged one

What were you doing that got you caught in a boot loop? Can you get into recovery?
If you can get into recovery, you can reflash, or run a kernel cleaning script. I know those have gotten me out of boot loops before. I can't say that I like the sound of that error, though.
I'm not going to tell you not to get a JIG. They're amazing. I'm just saying.... in the meantime, you could keep trying
and its not wierd that after flashing cm7 your 3button como still doesnt work. CM7 does not touch the bootloaders (which control the boot combos).
If you plug your phone into the computer you can use "adb reboot recovery" to get to recovery and fix your bootloop.
On a bootloop download mode wont help much except to flash back to stock.
Your kernel Sounds messed up, use a jig then DL mode back 2stock. OR If you actually have cm7 already successfully installed. All you have to do is pull the boot.img out of the zip. And put it in kernel spot on Odin. Then flash it. That will fix the kernel.

I've haven't had to use a jig to date yet. I've been lucky enough to keep holding vol up/down and plugging in the usb into the computer and its put it into download mode. If it doesn't work the first time, keep trying. Its always gotten me out of a pinch.

[Q] Stuck in a bootloop... HAALPPPP!!!

Hi all,
I recently got a samsung i9000 after owning an htc desire for a while.... I was more than happy with cm7 on the htc so i rooted etc and installed it on my galaxy... but it seems that its a bit more buggy on the i9000 port and i had loads of force closes and my phone was pretty unusable... so i then used clockwork recovery to install what i believed was the correct version of darky's rom 10.2 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=814091) and now im stuck in a bootloop... when i turn it on for 'normal' use, the original GALAXY S logo comes up (the one that says SAMSUNG at the bottom of the screen.... then it switches to the GALAXY S logo with cyanogen(mod) underneath it, then it restarts and im back to the original SAMSUNG logo.
I've tried to enter download mode (vol down, home then power) and when i do this, it just restarts with the original logo in a loop until i let go, then the cyanogen(mod) logo comes up.
Ive downloaded kies and odin to a fresh machine, but when i connect the phone over usb, I get the litter circular timer icon lighting up my phone for a few seconds, then the cyanogen(mod) screen comes up for a few seconds.... and then reboots....
Anyone got a way out for me? ive been without a phone for a few days and its really hurting now!
So you can't get into download mode??, did you flash back to stock rom before flashing Darky's? Because with CM7 a froyo bootloader is needed, and with Darky's a GB bootloader is needed. If you can get into recovery, go to mounts and storage, format system, data, cache, and datadata. Then pull battery out and try getting into download mode again Vol down + home + power. Report back dude

No I'm afraid not, their are two other things you could try....using adb booting into download mode from their....or a jig....that will force it into download mode, u in the UK??

I guess you need a jig to get into download mode. after that, try to flash to different ROMs and see if you have fix the problem.
If you internal sd card is physically damaged, try this method here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1188482
Yep, Im in the UK.... I dont think the internal sd is damaged as it was fine before flashing darkies rom... Ive not used adb to try and force a 'download mode' before.... handy link to a tute?
sorry for my brevety, im quickly writing this at work!

[Q] Help! Phone won't boot up or recovery menu!

I have a samsung captivate and i have been using the ROM fasty 2.5 for the past few months and i noticed there was a fasty III 1.3, So i went into my clockwork recovery and back up'd my system and data and whiped it all and proceeded to install the ZIP to my phone. When it all had finished i tried to reboot my phone and i got this staticy screen and then it would repeatedly restart over and over back to the static. So i then forced it to stay off and tried to boot it up to the recovery menu by holding the volume buttons and the power button and it can't boot to the recovery menu. Instead it just stays at the I896 screen. Is there anything i can do to fix this problem? i need my phone working as soon as possible so any help would be very much appreciated!
Sounds to me like you didn't flash the GB bootloaders. Might need to get yourself a jig and then flash the right bootloaders

Take a look at the sticky threads and search for a download mode jig
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using xda premium
I checked all the sticky notes and the web and it looks like these all include me messing around with the insides of my phone and tinkering with the hardware. I am not very comfortable doing that or do i have the understanding or tools to mess with that. Is there anything i can do software related to unbrick this. Or is my phone truly F'd?
No worries! I ended up using odin3 to restore it. Thank you very much for your help anyways! i will be sure to grab those GB loaders this time.

[Q] Bricked need help

So I just found my Galaxy S GT-19000 (after moving a while ago i lost it) but when i tried to turn it on it just gets stuck at the splash screen saying Galaxy S etc, Ive tried the 3 button combi to get into recovery mode but nothing seems to work . Im not sure what ROM is on it but it is rooted from when i last used it. Ive tried searching but had no luck
It wont enter Bootloader or Recovery mode using the 3 button combi, it just goes to the Galaxy S screen and boot-loops.
Is there anyway to restore/recover my phone? Im running Xubuntu 12.04 incase I need to run a program to recover it.
Follow the help link on my signature, should help.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using xda premium
Are you sure you are not just holding the buttons down for too long? You have to let go of all of the buttons a few seconds (two is enough usually) after the screen comes on.
Tried the link but cant get it into Recovery mode so it doesnt help I also tried releasing the buttons sooner but made no differnce still stuck at the Samsung Galaxy S screen
have a look here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=30415128
