USB host mode moving along nicely - Nook Color General

I've been trying out the USB host mode. (see development Thread)
I have a generic USB audio dongle and the mic audio input works well enough to use voice search and voice keyboard input. Have not tried it with VOIP, but it should work.
Great job on this. Can't wait until its all integrated into the nightly.

[Q] hardware keyboard needed either bluetooth or usb wired

I'm looki addon keyboard either bluetooth (HID profile) or standard
usb qwerty keyboard adapted with usb a m usb to usb micro-b 5pin
male. if the port can't provide enough power I can add a self-powered
usb hub (upto 2A 5vdc).
I'm not sure which bluetooth profile incredible prvides in froyo.
My problem is my fingures are too big for for softkeyboard,
an dn it doesn't come with a stylus.
Anyone know if its possible to use a 'real' or bluetooth keyboard
with Froyo Incredible?
Thnks
Bluetooth Keyboard
I just saw this in a Mobile Crunch article describing a bluetooth keyboard earlier this week. (Mobile Crunch Article)
The product page states it will be available in 2011...its definitely a good idea, pending it works as good as we all hope it will! (Product Page)
I don't know about usb hid, but bluetooth hid is definitely not supported on an incredible stock rom.. rooted or not.
no usb, but maybe BT
The port on the USB is the wrong end so I am thinking it will not work, but I wonder if BT serial ??? My stereo in the car transfers phone book data and controlls the phone and media player stuff so I bet with the correct drivers it could work.
Found Freedom Pro SPP/HID that should work
http://www.freedominput.com/freedom-accessories/freedom-pro-keyboard
It's a dual mode SPP and HID, I talked to them, they provide a driver
for the Android so it can talk SPP and still be an HID device to the OS.
Mine is supposed to arrive monday, I'll test and report results.
I am hoping you had good results last Monday with the keyboard. How did it go?
Freedom Pro bluetooth keyboard does work, (at least with Virtuous 3.0.1).
I set the keyboard to SPP mode, and powered it on, paperclip poked its
button to get into pairing mode. It paired fine, code 0000.
Once in paired but not connected mode. I went to their website (on the phones browser)
to download the driver file. http://www.otadrivers.com. After install
I setup the driver in settings following the guide on their website. It worked after that.
I have stock rom.
Has anyone use this on htc sense stock?

Micro USB head set

I'm running deeperblue's honeycomb on eMMC and was wondering if I could use a micro usb head set to try to make calls over a program like skype or fring. Has anybody had any sucess doing something like this? or if the hardware would allow it?
Bumping this thread, because I haven't seen an answer to this. I'd like to use Skype on the NC. I've read a number of posts regarding BT with headphones, and my impression is that it will work, but not well enough to use with Skype. If I'm wrong there, someone please correct me.
I can't find a clear post regarding micro USB though. Is there anyone out there using Skype with a micro usb headphone? Does it work well? If so, what's your setup (ROM, headphone h/w). Thanks.
As far i know; thats not possible at the moment.
Hooking a USB headset up to the Nook would require an USB host driver for the USB port on the bottom. Since it currently only a slave port (transfer data and power) you can't hook up a host device like a USB headset or a USB harddisk.
A while back they started a more technical thread about this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1028417
BT headsets do work as far as receiving audio goes, but sending audio (mic) is not available yet. Also the range is very poor. It'll probably be debugged in the near future by one of the awesome dev's on here.
Not the reply I was hoping for, but thanks for the clear response. Ciao.

[Q] USB Audio Recording

Hey all,
I was able to get my Zoom H1 microphone to be recognized on my Nook HD+ using USBAudioTesterRoot [1] app. Next step is to get my tablet to record audio through usb.
I tried RecForge Lite [2] but unfortunately it doesnt seem to recognize the usb audio device. Anyone tried to do this? Any tips on how to get this working together?

Hi,
I'm the developper of RecForge.
You won't be able to use RecForge with USB microphone.
The only solution would be to use this app : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.extreamsd.usbaudiorecorderpro (there may be a test version on the market too).
cool to see you here!
is usb audio supported by the official android sdk? or is it done through some complicated hack process?
also, why is there no aac recording support in RecForge? from what i read around the web, this new fdk codec is supposedly pretty good.

I'm interested in getting the USB Audio Recorder Pro for my HD+, but I don't know if it works on the HD+, and the tablet will not allow me to get the trial because it's not in google/B&N store.
Does USB ARP work, and does anyone know if it will work with a USB mixer the same as a USB microphone?

From what I understand, the developer implemented his own USB driver.
You're right, I will look at how to add the AAC support (it's just a matter of time ).
any success recording usb audio with the nook hd +?

HP Touchpad Mouse and Keyboard Issue cant use both at same time

I decided to make this a separate thread apart from the general questions post mainly for anyone who has a similar issue, it will be much easier to follow and ask questions, as well as update it myself when I have more data.
So to begin, I wiped my Touchpad with TPtoolbox v.40, installed CM11 4.4.4 with standard gapps and philz recovery. Everything was working great and going smooth until I tried to use a USB Logitech G11 keyboard and a wireless G700 mouse with the dongle attached to the keyboard. The touchpad will recognize the first device installed to the OTG cable but nothing else I plug into it unless the first device is removed. Let me give some examples of things I have tried.
----OTG Y cable (1 male Micro USB, 1 Female Micro USB power input, 1 Female USB) powered by PC or AC Power supply----
-TP>OTG>Keyboard>Mouse dongle = Keyboard input only
-TP>OTG>Non powered USB hub>Keyboard + Mouse = input based on first device plugged in, if both are plugged in when I plug in the hub, they keyboard always loads first but the mouse does work when keyboard is removed.
-TP>OTG>Non powered USB hub> Keyboard + wireless mini keyboard/mouse combo (Rii i8) + USB flash drive = Everything works, I can type with both the USB keyboard and the mini keyboard with functional mini mouse pad as well as access USB storage. However, when I add any type of dedicated mouse, be it my G700 or wired usb G500, neither work unless I remove the other two input devices.
Cont...
Continued from First Post
Notes: The OTG cable itself works fine using several devices, whether it be flash drives, external hdd, keyboards including a Rii i8 wireless keyboard/mouse combo (touch pad feature works as a mouse with the keyboard, probably because its considered one device.) but I cannot get it to work with a dedicated mouse in conjunction with a keyboard. If I remove the keyboard, again the mouse works fine on its own. If I have the mouse plugged in first, the mouse will work fine but the keyboard will not.
Some of you might be asking, why use a dedicated mouse if I can get the mouse pad on my mini keyboard to work? Gaming
Why not use a Bluetooth keyboard? I do not wish to purchase one and I enjoy my current keyboard
Does anyone have any ideas or a solution? Its driving me insane and I really want it to work with what I have. I even tried making a DIY OTG cable, same results haha.
Update 1: I know this combination works on other devices including Galaxy S3/4/5, and a POS tablet (Envizien or some crap), it really is slow haha but perfect for web and youtube. I figured if this same setup works on all these devices, why not my Touchpad... and here I am lol. Both mouse and keyboard are HID devices so it shouldn't be a problem. I know it has something to do with the touchpad itself, be it a settings and software hack, or I simply need to try a few different roms. I know the touchpad is capable of it, I have seen videos of it being done with what I have. That is what leads me to believe it may be ROM/kernel related.
Update 2: while creating the thread: I wiped the TP again using TPtoolbox v.41 and installed Shumash's Pacman ROM 4.4.4 hoping it was ROM related. No luck. I have attached an image that the TP does indeed recognize the keyboard if I plug it in after the Mouse but I am unable to type anything. I have set the language and default layout to be sure it didn't need to be set, again with no change. I will try an older ROM next to see if it will help.
Thanks again, cheers!
Paul
Help please
Tried 6 ROMs total with no luck.
4.3.1: Evervolv
4.4.2: Evervolv
4.4.4: CM11, EOS AIO, and 2 Pac man builds
Same symptoms with each.
Is anyone here with an HP Touchpad currently able to simultaneously use a keyboard and Mouse, wired or wireless through OTG?
Quick update: while running EV 4.3.1, I tried to test it again while at work and when I plugged the Mouse dongle into the USB hub, the mouse showed up but then wouldn't let me move it. I ordered a different OTG and USB Y Cable to better replicate what someone else was using in a youtube video. I just cant see how it works on every other device but this one though.
I really have no idea what to try next so i'm at a standstill.

Yep, just did it with my latest CM11 build. If it doesn't work for you, please provide kernel log (i.e. dmesg).

My work Pc allows me to do basically nothing but visit and post on XDA, is there a way to get the log file through the tp using terminal emulator or another means through the pc without ADB?
Thanks BTW.
Edit: was able to use Terminal Emulator and will email it to myself and upload soon. I hope its what you were looking for haha.
OK attached is the dmesg using last attempted ROM, ev_tenderloin 4.4.2
Kernel Version: 3.4.80-tenderlon+

I intend to go back to your CM11 build, as It seemed to be the smoothest and most reliable of those I tried so far. Im guessing when I do, the kernel will change so my attachment may be useless, i'm not sure. Can't do it here at work though, no Novacom for TPToolbox and the SD card partition is tiny if I were to try and do it using recovery.
New Log, no fix yet.
OK, I am back on cm-11-20141125-SNAPSHOT-jcsullins-tenderloin , attached is the kernel log.

Did you plug in the keyboard and mouse before getting the log?
From that log, it doesn't look like you plugged in any OTG devices.

My apologies, I did not.
Added a second log:
dmesg = TP>OTG Ycable using PC usb power>Keyboard with mouse dongle plugged into the keyboard
dmesg2 = TP> OTG Y cable using AC power adapter> Unpowered USB hub> Keyboard and mouse dongle
Tried the new OTG and Y Cable seen in video that had it working. Didn't make a difference, I am guessing something is wrong with my Kernel like you mentioned. Find anything in my log that I can try and fix? @jcsullins
Thanks

I did not intend to suggest there was something wrong with the kernel.
I think the problem is you are trying to use an un-powered (or bus-powered) USB hub.
Use a (self)-powered USB hub instead.

I misunderstood, my apologies. I will look around at buying a powered USB hub. Can't seem to find any less than $20 with decent reviews, that's in Bluetooth keyboard realm.. I will look at both options I suppose. Thanks again.
Edit: I was just thinking, I had the BUS powered USB hub working with several devices at once, including the wireless mini keyboard, usb keyboard, and a USB flash drive. Wouldn't that be an indication that an Externally powered USB hub is not required? I find it strange that I can get everything to work fine except when it comes to using both a mouse and keyboard at the same time.

wireless mouse won't connect

It's Bluetooth conected trough USB...
Like a USB Reciever thats in the device..
what steps have tried to fix the issue?
I cant get it to work thats why i ask somebody to help...
need more details. you only said your mouse doesn't work and that's it. no one can help you with the itty bitty info you gave. There over 200,000 different types of mouses out there in the market and you haven't declared which one is yours.
Amora is right OwnDroid. We need more to work with.
1) make and model of the mouse?
2) are you using a USB hub?
3) did you turn on dev settings? If yes did you turn on usb0 debugging? If yes...did you accidentally plug the mouse into usb0?
4) it is a new mouse? Does it work if plugged into any other system?
5) which USB post is it plugged into (0 or 1) and have to tried switching them?
Etc.
My acer 2.4 keyboard and mouse instantly connected. My two bluetooth keyboards slow to connect but do eventually work. Have you opened the bluetooth settings?
Man, same here! My Logitech wireless keyboard and mouse don't connect, it doesn't accept input through my touch screen monitor (Dell), a USB mouse doesn't do anything (works with everything else PC-wise), and I don't even own a wired keyboard.
Another electronic device in the bucket to use for target practice!

You have to contact support if ur USB ports aren't functioning.
My Microsoft Bluetooth Mouse can pair but the mouse cursor doesn't move at all. I am connected this mouse directly to my Acer Switch Alpha 12 and I can confirm this worked under my dual boot Windows 10. Anyone have way around this?
@Yitan - please query in the Remix Os for Pc forum. This thread is in the Remix Mini forum.
Thanks!

If you enabled developer mode, turn off usb0 debugging off.
