My nook refuses to download/install anything 1.2 related. I tried to use the official B&N download. It never tried to install it even though it was in the right place.
I think thats because when i restored stock I cannot login, it says serial number is missing, mac address, etc etc. So if anybody knows why and how i can fix that would be great.
Also I used the cwm flashable stock 1.2 update, It installs in clockwork. when I reboot the install fails. Im about to give up on trying to get up to 1.2.
Plllllease help Ive been working on this for almost a week.

2. I restored and re-rooted, now I can't log in to my B&N account!
- get NookColorTools app (if not installed during root, it's on xda). Under All Settings, open the 2nd (of 3) setting called Wireless near the bottom. This will begin their registration process again.

Still cant register/deregister the nook even on a a stock 1.0.1 or rooted 1.0.1 When I try registering the device I get the error that says the serial number, model number and Mac address are all missing.
In normal settings>device info>About your nook it says: Device owner unknown, account unkown, Model number m1234, Serial number 000000000,

In other words you formatted /rom at some point. I think there's a few threads on how to fix that.

Are you unable to restore to a stock Barnes and Noble NC rom? Do you have Clockmod on a SD Card?

Ok so I am an idiot. I rooted my nook color. I just isntalled clockworkmod recovery. I wanted to restore to original settings to return it and so I went to the settings and chose erase and deregister device. That was fine. But root was still there so I went to wipe/factory restore in clockworkmod. I know, bad move. Well now I can't register the device and when I try to connect to the android marketplace it says data connection error. And if I try to erase and deregister it says that it's not registered. Also have tried holding down the power button, +vol and n button to get the reset menu but doesnt work. The nook still works.. connects to wifi, internet, everything works.. just want to get to original settings so I can return it. Please help, obviously I am noob at this. I don't know if I got a recovery somewhere else and restored if that would work. If so please throw me a bone here. Thanks.
I think what you need is in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=896682
Since your NC is booting and somewhat working, I think you can get the stock recovery (I think there is someone in the linked thread that can supply you with the stock recovery) and adb it. Clockwork has replaced your stock recovery.
Didn't see a link for the stock recovery. Is there a chance to get a backup somewhere put it on my sd card and restore my nc so I at least have functionality?

Not exactly. It was stated that one of the devs was working on a restore in the form of an update.zip that would be run through clockwork.
What was available was a copy of the stock recovery file. There are a couple of folks that were providing it as a Private Message. Go through that thread and find who it was and pm them for the file. You can then install that file and reset your NC to stock and re-register it. They, if you wish, re-root it and start over.
Good luck.
Why return it?
If you really must return it, just run the battery down so that the cashier at the store can't tell its rooted and return it. The people at the NOOK counters are not trained tech people, and they do not check returns to see if any tinkering has been done under the hood. They just put them in a box and send them back to the distributor. As long as you are within the return timeframe (14 days with a receipt) there won't be any questions.
Thanks for all the help

I can tell you that plenty of people had them check the functionality, and ask that the defect be demonstrated.
This is certainly true at Best Buy where they power it up run through the menus etc..
Ok here is my situation. The NC is for my wife but I want to play around with it. I am leaving the stock ROM untouched (no rooting). I have Nookie Froyo on a microSD and it boots just fine. I have done easyADB but when I do adb devices it comes back with my serial number being 11223344556677. I have not tried anything further than this because it was late and I figured that with it not showing my correct serial number it would not work.
What should I do? I am on Vista 32. The NC shows as Android Composite ADB Interface in device manager. Thanks for the help, if there is any other info needed let me know.
EDIT...Also, this is my first Android device, so this whole thing is new to me. So things that may seem like a given I have no clue about. I am usually very good with this sort of thing and following directions. I have modded xboxes and stuff, but this is a whole new beast to me.

I haven't seen that anywhere. I sure hope not. That was the whole point (and one of the features) of using Froyo, so I didn't have to root. What's the point of running Froyo off an SD card if I still have to root the NC?
If that is the case, why would it be touted that you can boot froyo off an sd without having to root? What would be the point. Without ADB you cant get marketplace or apps or anything.....
Hopefully someone can clear this up.
Please excuse my ignorance. I followed a youtube tutorial and was able to root my Nook to Honeycomb. But now, i have no ebook reader and when i try to download one from the android market or it doesn't install. I successfully downloaded the kindle app from the amazon store but once it loads, it crashes sometimes just on launch and sometimes when clicking the free books the the kindle app came with.
Another issue im having is I have no clue how to access files on my SD card. Even if i connect my nook to the comp, it recognizes that a hard drive was connected but it doesn't mount so i can transfer files to and from it. Sorry for the noob questions.
Not sure if this helps but in "About Phone" the Kernal Version is 2.6.29-omap1. Build number is sdk-eng Honeycomb Nook eng.rbrune.20110131.162619 test keys
Thanks
Honeycomb port is just really in its infant stage right now, I would suggest you going to CM7 and familiarize yourself with all the settings before jumping to HC.

I am thinking you are having some terminology confusing. Putting on the Honeycomb build is not rooting; it is flashing a rom. You can root your factory OS, which will let you add things like the android Market and such. Since you are already at the point where you can flash a new ROM, you can just flash the CM7 build just like you did the Honeycomb build.
I agree with everyone. Flash to CM7. I tried Honeycomb but didn't like it. I had the same problem with apps not installing. For me, I had to turn the NC off after a download and back on to see the apps installed. CM7 is running awesome on my NC. I have both Kindle and NC ereader apps running without issues.

You're right. I have all the terminology screwed up. Its my first time doing anything like this and to top that, I've never even owned an android phone. Anyway, Gonna attempt to go to CM7. Is it the same process? just put the CM7 zip file on the sd card that i just imaged? Would you be so kind to post a link with the latest file? If not, I will search and hope I get the latest. Thanks for your replies. I appreciate it.

Cool. So I downloaded and installed CM7. Looks like it loaded nicely but then i keep getting this popup "The process android.process.acore has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again" Any suggestions? Thanks!
EDIT: BTW, did I have to reformat before installing CM7? I just installed it right over HC and the few apps I had downloaded before were still on the NC plus my wireless settings were still there and everything.
Ok. I was too desperate. So I went ahead and reformated then reinstalled CM7. Everything is working nice and smooth. My only issue now is I don't have the android appstore to download apps. None of the google apps are installed either. I can't even get the amazon app store cause it wants to send me an sms with the download. Thanks again for the help guys!

Since I'm on my nook on the xda app I don't have a link handy, but you need to flash a file called gapps (Google apps) after a normal cm7 install. You should be able to find the file linked here our in the cyanogenmod.com site.
After that, it should prompt you to set up all of your normal google accounts.
Sent from my NookColor using XDA Premium App
Yup. I downloaded the gapps-ga-20110307-signed zip file and what i'm not sure of is if I installed it right but here's what i did. This is what i did 5. 'install zip from sdcard' --> 'choose zip from sdcard' --> select "gapps-gb-20110307-signed.zip. I followed these instructions from another post. Anyway, it stated that it was installed successfully but i got nothing. No gmail or anything. Its as if i didnt install anything at all. Any suggestions? Thanks!
Do you have wifi turned on? I believe that you need to turn on the wifi to get the market app to show up.

OK....Im gonna give this one last try when I get home tonight. If this doesn't work, I think i'm just gonna give up and restore it back to Nooks factory default. I got this for my wife and she loved the way the Nook displayed the books much better than the 3rd party apps I found on amazon store. Sucks cause I know the Android store has the Nook app but I can't get to it and for some reason, I can't download it from the Barnes & Noble site. Oh well. Thanks for your help.
Stevemp....worked like a charm. Couldn't get the nook app to work properly so i just bought moon reader and its perfect. My only issue now is that when I connect my nook to my pc via usb, the pc doesn't recognize it. I thought I bookmarked some instructions a some thinks i needed to download onto my pc and what not but I can't find it. Any suggestions? Thanks!
Windows only sees the first partion on the sdcard. I use Samba File Sharing from the Market to transfer files. It's wireless and easy to use. Go into settings and set your password and you should be good to go.

I used the method outlined in this post to get the Market and Apps:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1000957
I noticed that some people had difficulty booting into Recovery Mode while installing the Apps package. I did too, so what I did was just continued to hold down the 'n' throughout the entire startup, rather than releasing it, and then gapps installed fine
I now find that I hardly boot to the NC OS any longer to use it, I just run the CyanogenMod almost all the time.
Hi, My friend recently enlisted my assistance with his phone. He has no 3g signal, the phone can't make calls, and apparently Sprint was having trouble activating it even though it has a clean ESN. It appears to be rooted, and has a custom ROM. I tried installing an EXE to flash me back to stock, but I dont have the correct driver I suppose. I intend to continue reading as I have been for the last 2 hours. Does anyone have any guidance? The old phone number from the previous owner is loaded. Is that halting activation?
Thank you!
I also try to connect it to Wifi. It connects, but wont let me access a web page. It halts about halfway through loading. Radio issue?
Go to this link and download the files and name it HERCIMG.zip and then put that on the root of the sdcard. Once its on the sdcard, shut down the phone. Now turn on the phone while holding the down volume button. Once it verifies the files, press the trackball to confirm the install. Once it is done the phone will reboot and be restored back to stock. Once its stock, have your friend call Sprint and retry activation. Link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=804692

It does have Clockwork mod, I'm assuming the previous owner installed a ROM, ran into this problem and bought a new phone instead of tinkering. I was directed here from SDX where I have learned some of the ins and outs with my Samsung.
I flashed a team heroC 2.3.4 which is a cyanogen I believe. It booted up fine, and is running but didnt fix my issue. It didnt wipe /System so the issue might be hidden in there? I doubt the end user will want to modify, etc. Also, I've noticed when people enlist me for these projects I also receive the complaints and am expected to do something about it.
I'll give this a shot, and then re-root, and keep trying. In the end, if I dont get it fixed I have a free hero to play with.
Thank you, and +1 to ya.

My phone has -s ON, that seems to be halting this process. I am trying to find the proper driver for this phone now. I have Windows 7, I have it plugged in, I run RUU and it says there is a USB connection error. I don't see it in Device Manager, nor do I see it try to trigger on my PC as a device.
If I rename the HERCIMG to update, and install as sd card/update.zip Will that cause an issue?
I will await a response in fear of bricking.
In Hboot it says can't find Hercdiag.zip
Other Hercdiags
and HercImg.zip
It appears that I have Hboot 1.47.0000
Would renaming to Hercimg.zip do the trick?
In this particular Zip I have:
androidinfo.txt
boot.img
Hboot 1.47
NV MFG
Radio 2.42
recovery.img
Splash
system.img
user data.img

+1, Thank you.
I am s- off now if that makes any kind of difference. I guess I will keep flashing different things until I can get something to work.
I was able to log into a google account over wifi, but still no 3g icon. I flashed the Gapps because all of those were missing somehow. I really wish I could get that HERCIMG to work. It also says Im missing Hercdiag, etc too. So maybe thats the issue?
I have radio 2.42.01.04.27
Is there any further detail I can post that may help us narrow down the cause?
I wish I had the correct data cable so I could use the RUU method. I'm assuming thats why the phone isnt triggering my device manager. (If it wouldnt have the same issue with HERCIMG.zip anyway)
Its gotta be something retarded that I'm overlooking here.
When calling Sprint for activation, the code entered into the dialer wasnt triggering the response necessary for activation either.
Would flashing stock recovery fix the Hboot issue. Maybe the Hboot file is corrupt? I have re-downloaded 3 times, but from the same mediafire host.

Actually now that you are S-OFF put the HERCIMG.zip onto your sdcard and boot into your bootloader. Don't worry about the others missing. Those are irrelevant. Boot into the bootloader when your phone is off by holding volume down and pushing power button. Then when asked for a confirmation press the trackball.
I made some progress. I formatted my SD card to FAT32, It was FAT before. Copied the file over, was able to flash that HERCIMG file.
Once I got logged in, it appears that this phone has been flashed to REVOL. So I guess I have more homework trying to switch it back to Sprint? It has the Sprint Programs installed, and Sprint boot screen.
It has a revol lockscreen, and the carrier in "About Phone" is listed as Revol.
What now? booo... Am I SOL?

No one here knows much about stock-- it's closed source by Barnes and Noble. That said, you might get a clue what is going wrong if you can get the "logcat" output (google logcat). It may require rooting stock tho. Not sure, as I've never really run stock.

How did you restore? I bought my NC in May and it was version 1.2 or something. There is a 1.4 update now by B&N. The point is I would try to restore again the same way you did. If that fails try the other restore version. If you got to the registration it should be working.
Finally if you didn't wipe out the recovery, 8 failed boots may restore to your factory settings. Search the forums for all of the above directions.
