Ok so I am an idiot. I rooted my nook color. I just isntalled clockworkmod recovery. I wanted to restore to original settings to return it and so I went to the settings and chose erase and deregister device. That was fine. But root was still there so I went to wipe/factory restore in clockworkmod. I know, bad move. Well now I can't register the device and when I try to connect to the android marketplace it says data connection error. And if I try to erase and deregister it says that it's not registered. Also have tried holding down the power button, +vol and n button to get the reset menu but doesnt work. The nook still works.. connects to wifi, internet, everything works.. just want to get to original settings so I can return it. Please help, obviously I am noob at this. I don't know if I got a recovery somewhere else and restored if that would work. If so please throw me a bone here. Thanks.
I think what you need is in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=896682
Since your NC is booting and somewhat working, I think you can get the stock recovery (I think there is someone in the linked thread that can supply you with the stock recovery) and adb it. Clockwork has replaced your stock recovery.
Didn't see a link for the stock recovery. Is there a chance to get a backup somewhere put it on my sd card and restore my nc so I at least have functionality?

Not exactly. It was stated that one of the devs was working on a restore in the form of an update.zip that would be run through clockwork.
What was available was a copy of the stock recovery file. There are a couple of folks that were providing it as a Private Message. Go through that thread and find who it was and pm them for the file. You can then install that file and reset your NC to stock and re-register it. They, if you wish, re-root it and start over.
Good luck.
Why return it?
If you really must return it, just run the battery down so that the cashier at the store can't tell its rooted and return it. The people at the NOOK counters are not trained tech people, and they do not check returns to see if any tinkering has been done under the hood. They just put them in a box and send them back to the distributor. As long as you are within the return timeframe (14 days with a receipt) there won't be any questions.
Thanks for all the help

I can tell you that plenty of people had them check the functionality, and ask that the defect be demonstrated.
This is certainly true at Best Buy where they power it up run through the menus etc..
Got your attention ?
Having trouble with my cappy, hope somebody knows how to help.
Basically I can flash back to stock, flash any rom or kernal. But when I try to update from market, I click ok to download app and it just sits at ok button, does not go any further. Tibu also hangs when I try to restore backups. If I try to install an app from ext-sd, it just sits in limbo and never installs.
I have repeated this process several times, flashed back to stock, master clear and flash new rom, everytime with the same results that I mentioned above.
Something interesting though, when I flash back to stock and try to install from market or from my ext-sd card and Tibu, everything works fine.
I don't get it! Anyone with some insight ? Thanks in advance
This thing is driving me insane

Did you Master Clear after you Odin back to stock? Also, try clearing Davlik cache in CWM

Yes I do both of those everytime...
Can't help but think it's google related issue. Everything works fine with stock rom. But as soon as I flash to any other rom, all the above issues begin
Does the rom assign you a generic id that everyone has? Did you copy your unique id from stock?
Caution swyping! Read at your own risk.

Have not tried that, is there a tutorial somewhere on how to do so ?
Thanks
I would try the android id changer. Like the last post said u will have to write your id down the first time at stock then use the I'd changer app to change it once flashed. Did you also try clearing the market data. Just Few things I have tried and worked in the past. But on the other hand the market is kinda screwy in the first place so sometimes it can be hard to tell whats working and what isn't

Clear the market cache. That has caused apps to not download.

Yeah that was tried with no success and would not explain my issues installing from ext-sd or restoring from tibu
Id changer will show you the id the phone is using at the moment.

Yeah I tried that, copied id from stock rom, flashed new rom, installed latest busybox. Then copied stock rom id to id changer, loaded, saved and applied
After reboot, stock id does not keep, repeated process with no changes
I've used id changer in the past and have had no trouble inputting id and it saving, but no go now ??
Please excuse my ignorance. I followed a youtube tutorial and was able to root my Nook to Honeycomb. But now, i have no ebook reader and when i try to download one from the android market or it doesn't install. I successfully downloaded the kindle app from the amazon store but once it loads, it crashes sometimes just on launch and sometimes when clicking the free books the the kindle app came with.
Another issue im having is I have no clue how to access files on my SD card. Even if i connect my nook to the comp, it recognizes that a hard drive was connected but it doesn't mount so i can transfer files to and from it. Sorry for the noob questions.
Not sure if this helps but in "About Phone" the Kernal Version is 2.6.29-omap1. Build number is sdk-eng Honeycomb Nook eng.rbrune.20110131.162619 test keys
Thanks
Honeycomb port is just really in its infant stage right now, I would suggest you going to CM7 and familiarize yourself with all the settings before jumping to HC.

I am thinking you are having some terminology confusing. Putting on the Honeycomb build is not rooting; it is flashing a rom. You can root your factory OS, which will let you add things like the android Market and such. Since you are already at the point where you can flash a new ROM, you can just flash the CM7 build just like you did the Honeycomb build.
I agree with everyone. Flash to CM7. I tried Honeycomb but didn't like it. I had the same problem with apps not installing. For me, I had to turn the NC off after a download and back on to see the apps installed. CM7 is running awesome on my NC. I have both Kindle and NC ereader apps running without issues.

You're right. I have all the terminology screwed up. Its my first time doing anything like this and to top that, I've never even owned an android phone. Anyway, Gonna attempt to go to CM7. Is it the same process? just put the CM7 zip file on the sd card that i just imaged? Would you be so kind to post a link with the latest file? If not, I will search and hope I get the latest. Thanks for your replies. I appreciate it.

Yes.. just download the CM7 from cyanogens website. Click the Nook Color under "All Supported Devices". Get the latest stable one.. 7.0.3. Try the nightlies out when you get bored of a functional new device.

Cool. So I downloaded and installed CM7. Looks like it loaded nicely but then i keep getting this popup "The process android.process.acore has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again" Any suggestions? Thanks!
EDIT: BTW, did I have to reformat before installing CM7? I just installed it right over HC and the few apps I had downloaded before were still on the NC plus my wireless settings were still there and everything.
Ok. I was too desperate. So I went ahead and reformated then reinstalled CM7. Everything is working nice and smooth. My only issue now is I don't have the android appstore to download apps. None of the google apps are installed either. I can't even get the amazon app store cause it wants to send me an sms with the download. Thanks again for the help guys!

Since I'm on my nook on the xda app I don't have a link handy, but you need to flash a file called gapps (Google apps) after a normal cm7 install. You should be able to find the file linked here our in the cyanogenmod.com site.
After that, it should prompt you to set up all of your normal google accounts.

Yup. I downloaded the gapps-ga-20110307-signed zip file and what i'm not sure of is if I installed it right but here's what i did. This is what i did 5. 'install zip from sdcard' --> 'choose zip from sdcard' --> select "gapps-gb-20110307-signed.zip. I followed these instructions from another post. Anyway, it stated that it was installed successfully but i got nothing. No gmail or anything. Its as if i didnt install anything at all. Any suggestions? Thanks!
Do you have wifi turned on? I believe that you need to turn on the wifi to get the market app to show up.
Yes...I have the wifi on. weird. Any other suggestions? Thanks
Phiremod comes with google apps, might be easier to install. Wipe system, cache, data, and dalvik to be safe. https://phiremod.wordpress.com/nook-color/ or http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=954902 It is CM7 with some custom themes and extra apps.

OK....Im gonna give this one last try when I get home tonight. If this doesn't work, I think i'm just gonna give up and restore it back to Nooks factory default. I got this for my wife and she loved the way the Nook displayed the books much better than the 3rd party apps I found on amazon store. Sucks cause I know the Android store has the Nook app but I can't get to it and for some reason, I can't download it from the Barnes & Noble site. Oh well. Thanks for your help.
Stevemp....worked like a charm. Couldn't get the nook app to work properly so i just bought moon reader and its perfect. My only issue now is that when I connect my nook to my pc via usb, the pc doesn't recognize it. I thought I bookmarked some instructions a some thinks i needed to download onto my pc and what not but I can't find it. Any suggestions? Thanks!
Windows only sees the first partion on the sdcard. I use Samba File Sharing from the Market to transfer files. It's wireless and easy to use. Go into settings and set your password and you should be good to go.

When you connect the NC via USB, do you see a USB symbol in the notification bar? If so, pull it down & you can enable USB connection to the PC. Be sure to eject when finished.

I used the method outlined in this post to get the Market and Apps:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1000957
I noticed that some people had difficulty booting into Recovery Mode while installing the Apps package. I did too, so what I did was just continued to hold down the 'n' throughout the entire startup, rather than releasing it, and then gapps installed fine
I now find that I hardly boot to the NC OS any longer to use it, I just run the CyanogenMod almost all the time.
I rooted my wifes captivate with superoneclick and tried to get it to allow non market apps and it keeps saying it failed. so i went in with an db editor and changed the 0 to a 1 as the instructions say. When i try to go into titanium back up and restore her contacts it says the phone is set to not allow non market apps. wife is pretty up set can anyone please help
Please use more descriptive thread titles.
i think it is pretty descriptive i need help. now if someone would please give me some suggestions to try instead of being a hole about it that would be nice
i agree your thread title sucks, but in Titanium Backup, have you clicked on menu, more, reload application?

I will tell you what i think... first off that kind of language is not allowed on the forums and you can easily get banned for it. and seccond go into settings/ applications/ development and tick off unknown sources. also if all you have done is root her contact app will not be gone

ATT captivates do not have 'unknown sources' option on stock roms.......thank you ATT
that option is not there ive have already looked. i have the htc inpire and it does. i tried to reload the app and that did not work. when i rooted it first all her info was there. when i tried to flash a rom thats when it went south. i couldnt get it to the screen i needed so i clicked on clear data and thats when i wiped her info on the phone. i had previously backed up her info with titanium backup so that i could restore the info. froyo is running on her phone as well. since the stock rom does not allow non market apps. can i get help with flashing a rom. when i boot into recovery and try to flash i just get the first screen i cant get to the screen needed to flash. ive tried flashing CWM and it says it is successful but when i try to reinstall packages it keeps saying its aborted and will not proceed. any thoughts on this issue? i edited my first post sorry. i just hate people who are cynical and dont give any suggestions.

I would like to put my Nook Color back to the way it was when purchased (before I pass it on to someone else).
Unfortunately, I didn't keep good track of what I did to root it. I know a few things:
After booting without any sdcard, I see that I have Zeam as a launcher
The soft middle button on the bottom brings up the stock Nook menu (library/shop/search/etc)
My Nook Color was purchased in Nov 2010 (before the "blue dot")
It came with 1.0. and right now it shows 1.1.0 as the software version
I can get to recovery through ROM manager but can't seem to get there with power+N.
I didn't want to overdo the explanation of my situation but I thought maybe some of the info was necessary (?) I would really appreciate someone heading me in the right direction. If it matters, my Nook Color was purchased in Nov 2010 (before the "blue dot")
I have searched to find what to do but I don't know which method to use - there are several. Also, I read somewhere that you need to deautherize the Nook but I am not sure when to do that (before unrooting/flash-to-stock/whatever or can it be done after?) Thank you.
Start with this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=931720&highlight=restore+to+stock or do some searching. I think kb and Dizzy have links in their sigs that have it too.
Note: some of the links in those threads are dead, BUT, you can find everything you need through the links, or with a little searching. I don't have the time to dig it all up, but just trying to point you in the right direction with the links I had offhand.
Essentially, you need to create a mSD card with bootable CWR and flash a stock ROM .zip like you would with any other ROM.
Also, if you are selling it or passing it on, be sure to de-register the device with Barnes and Noble (if you've registered it), otherwise the person won't be able to register and use it.
If you go to my tips thread linked in my signature you will see how to make a CWM bootable card and links to stock roms to flash with it.
Like the earlier user said, be sure to deregister before passing it on.
Thank you to both biohazrd51 and leapinlar for helping me - I truly appreciate it.
One question: When do I deautherize?

After you have installed the new rom, it will ask you to register, do that, then go to settings, device info, and pick erase and deregister device.
