ever notice how people like to ask " did you search before posting this thread?"
seems to me that is just as much waste as posting in the wrong place or posting before searching. everyone wants an organized xda site but what is the deal with these guys who have ten million posts and half are "did you search?" or "there is already a thread"
are these guys just trying to bump up there number of posts thinking that will increase their geek cred?
yes it is annoying when a post was not presearched or posted in the wrong place but equally annoying is the thread's first three responses saying " there is already a thread for that" or " did you search?" yet no link to the active thread the person was or should have been looking for the whole time.
why not just post the link to the thread they should have asked the question? i bet there are thousands of posts in the wrong place or posts with questions already asked but i bet there are just as many post that say "did you search" which is equally wasteful.
now, for all you gravediggers, go find where this has already been posted because it prob has then you can boost your post numbers with that stupid question, "did you search before posting?"
Yeah, i've never used the XDA search "engine" . The reason for that is that i think the search engine here is at best utterly useless. So how do i get around this big place? Good question. I guess i just know where to look for stuff, or maybe i'm just magic, like Steve.
But to be honest i just use Google. If i try to find the Minimalistic Text thread i search for "Minimalistic Text xda-developers.com" or something else like "missed it xda-developers.com" (for the app Missed It!) and so on.

Go to the general section, Q&A section and the (goodness, gracious me) accessories section and scroll a bit. There are a freakn DOZEN repeated topics in the first page. I estimate that less than 30% of the posts are unique in the first two pages. So, do your bit on increasing the average IQ of humanity and try to off yourself before we laugh at your Darwin award later on. Your blatant trolling on this page is what pisses people off.

ban the person above you, blame the person above, count to 10.000, count to zero,... are good threads to gain post count.
i agree !!! theres too many rant vent and rage threads !!!
their message can be usually summed up in 4-5 words (and is usually the title too) !!!!!

Who forced you to read it? It's called off-topic, and it's called a community - you know, a GROUP of people. Not just your forum. In fact it's people like you that post crap like this who give the off-topic forums and community as a whole a bad name.
We then also get people with less than 10 posts (^^^) getting angry for no reason... Well the reason being another post
@mtm lol But it has a point atleast

XDA is Powered by vBulletin®
Vbulletin makes it possible to make it so post count is not affected in a specific section, but i'm not sure if that would work for just only 10 posts, but just NO post count here in this section at all.
(some noob will make this thread a I WANT MORE POSTS THREAD, i just know these kinds of things)
I come onto these forums and for the most part, people are kind and considerate. Then there's a handful of people who just ruin it. I read a posting in one of the forums this morning. Obviously it was in the wrong section, but that's obvious to me and others who have browsed these forums for a while.
What's the first reply I read? It's an offensive posting using derogatory name calling meant to put the OP down. It's one thing to correct someone, but it doesn't mean we beat them down in the process. Why are we trying to make people feel stupid?
If it bothers you to the point where you want to call someone names and try to make them feel like ##### then maybe you need to step away and cool down. Give a gentle nudge, report it to a moderator(so they can move it), and go about your way.

Sadly, it is degenerating lately and bad behaviour becomes more prevalent. Here is to hoping that it will get better in the future.
Dude, you don't know what kind of idiot someone might be.Just ignore these guys, that's what I do.
Yes,I totally agree with you by the way.I have been "victim" to such behaviour many times.Especially when asking about something that one of these guys(the trolls) doesn't like.
Just ignore them, that's my advice to you.
i appreciate your sentiments and i see that you are hurt by what was said but then again...welcome to the world...the world does not care about how you feel... the best example is the noob video the site made when you were seeking registration...if you didnt watch it please do...it is awesome and i guess that is how these people who consider themselves experts feel (perhaps they are entitled to that)
P.S.: do watch that video. just click on the registration page and it is right there all the best and wish you well...

No one is entitled to the right to be rude freely.Yeah,I too sometimes am bothered by some people who actually cause trouble by repeating already answered questions or that are too lazy to search, but I never got rude-at least not without apologizing afterwards.

1st nothing was said to me, I'm just tired of reading these post that attack the poster for their "noobness". For those advising me to let go and move on, good advice. At the end of the day I can't control what others post.
Yes, I've watched the noob video recently and find it extremely funny, not offensive.
Anyway, I'm just hoping we can all think before we post. It was just a vent, hopefully in the right section
Spot on. There is never a need to put someone down. I'm relatively new to this forumn and often find myself hesitant to post for fear of being berated. However, for every one asshole spouting off, there are twenty excellent members who will happily answer your question or point in the proper direction without being nasty about it.
well just my 2 cents, but i went from the dell streak forum and it was awesome i helped ppl they helped me never any rude answers. got myself a galaxy tab bc of more development and its full of dickheads (not everyone) i dont even post in that forum sucks bc i love my tab but every time ive posted i get a rude answer ppl are just mean

i only call ppl out when they deserve it like the other day in the cdma hero forums when a certain someone cough... andy lowe.. cough triple posted asking the same question and was not clear at all so yea ill definitly call someone out when they deserve how else are u going to keep noobs in line.
I agree with the OP. There are plenty of people on this site that need an attitude check. Everyone starts somewhere, you learn things by asking questions, and having people to guide you. You do not learn anything by being told off by some random person who thinks they are better than you, because god knows why.
There are also the exact opposite though, it seems few and far between, because most of the time the people that are rude give everyone else a bad rap. I have found plenty posts that are very helpful and have answered my questions, but a lot of the times browsing through other threads, when people have simple questions or comments to be made they are attacked by the "know it alls".
1. If the poster is offensive, report.
2. If the OP is retarded and made mistakes even after being told to read the rules, he deserves to... be re-educated.
3. This topic is redundant.
If you are stuck on less than 10 posts, then you'll never get there.
I posted a few posts on Off-Topic forums, contributing jokes, 3 word story things, general fun and games.
These were clumped into one ridiculous looking post, putting my posts from 10 back down to 2.
I had a read through this - http://forum.xda-developers.com/announcement.php?a=81
Anybody spot what I've done wrong?
This site specifically stops new members from posting more than once every 5 minutes, and I'm not allowed to post on any meaningful forums, so I don't understand what the heck I'm supposed to be posting on!! Can't even post jokes without them getting removed!!!

The Q&A and General forums are as meaningful as the forums that you are obviously referring to (development forums).
The rule is there to stop absolutely ridiculously selfish noobs going into dev forums and creating posts (or even worse, creating threads!) that simply say "I can't do this.... I can't do that...."
Anyone that's been on here a while and now knows what they are doing will tell you, 100% accurately, that most of the time you only have to read a little longer and you find your answer. It's VERY unlikely that you have a question that hasn't been asked before.
Try contributing meaningfully to the Q&A and General forums for your device. You may find that you enjoy helping people, rather than just coming here to leech and demand answers (not saying you do that - just saying it happens).
Good luck mate

Ok, fair point, I was referring to this off-topic forum, which I thought was just for fun.
But my point remains: what did I do wrong to get my posts clumped together? I posted genuine posts in this off-topic forum as this site permitted me too.
And while I appreciate you were referring to the typical noob when you pulled out the big phrases ("absolutely ridiculously selfish noobs" ..... "I can't do this.... I can't do that...." etc.) remember, you don't know me.... you don't know what I was or wasn't going to post, suggest, answer, ask - you only assume
My question related to the forum rules (which I searched for ), and in what way - by posting a few jokes in joke forums - I had broken them.
Maybe the moderators should update those rules and make them a little clearer next time, particularly with regards to this 10 post thing.
Just a helpful suggestion.

I wasn't assuming - I wouldn't do that because you're right, I don't know you. I iterated the point in order to explain the type of person that has unfortunately brought about the need for such rules. They can be a pain for genuinely non-pleblike users, but most of them will understand the need for such rules as they tend to make the site that little bit better.
Anyway, just don't clump a load of posts together and you'll be fine.
The merge feature is automatic and happens to everyone, even Mods such as myself. You did nothing wrong in the aspect, however, I will be deleting this thread as it is yet another way to increase post count. Do as the poster above suggested and head over to Q&A to contribute some meaningful posts. If you have more questions on the rule, see the link in my sig.
This may or may not be what you're talking about, but the site did recently implement a change where posts are auto-merged if they are back to back within a certain time frame.*

I'm pretty sure either the devs know about it, or it has been mentioned before. What is it with noobs suddenly finding all the bugs in a rom, and the older members not seeing them? Must be their bad eyesight. GPS usually uses more battery. This thread has been reported by me, and I hope it gets removed and you lose your post count.

You need to read the rules when you speak of following them..
The first rule is to use the search button.
And let me remind you that you can banned for swearing. Its prohibited!!
Just reminding though..!!
Don't be a noob. Be a newbie..!!
Details here.
Go to development section and find out......These are seriously stupid questions...Also there is a thread in General which lists them all
You see guys, rules are simple common sense and I have read them. swearing...you get that all over the place but it was essential in this case. anyways.
you say there is a thread for all available recoveries dunno you say use search before posting and blah blah blah blah blah blah.
do you think I haven't looked for it or haven't used the lameass search function gentlemen.
then let me tell you I have but guess what I didn't find what I was looking for, therefore I made this thread to ask something from a community that seem to be interested in fighting with one another, let alone helping each other.
If you are a true dev first thing you need is proper manners, look at the post #2 what does it say do you think that is appropriate, well what i think about someone who talks to me like that (really would say this guy is an a s s hole, I am not saying that my swearing was so appropriate (didn't swear at anyone though) but as you said (according to post #4 on this thread fight laziness with unkindness) I learnt to fight your bad manners with bad manners gentlemen.
Now seriously lads if you would have not posted anything at all or AT LEAST posted something in appropriate manners none of these would have happened and we wouldn't be arguing over this really guys if you don't like helping others then why??......why did you become part of this community because let me tell you, you didn't know how new to android I was or whether I searched or didn't (which doesn't really matter since as a member of this communality I have the right to ask) you just assumed everything!!!!!!!
Now guys who made a mistake and is the true noob, me or you ?????
Chill out!
There is no need to fight in every occasion.
@OP, go to Android Development Section and type recovery in search window. You'll find results.
Perhaps ,@OP,your approach wasnt right.Xda is not a place to seek help.It is xda-DEVELOPERS.And it doesnt seem to me you used search. For me it brings in the first place:

Still,If you say swearing was neccessary,I am afraid it wasnt. what you cant by asking politely,You wont get it the hard way either. And,If you are new,and in case you read the rules, then you'd have read the stickies which I am again afraid u didnt, for it clearly tells you where/what/how to search and stuff.Lastly, you say you are new to android, well everyone is at some point. But no one creates a chaos and goes on showing of his "vocabulary" skills.
This justifies your query who is a noob i guess.
