If you are stuck on less than 10 posts, then you'll never get there.
I posted a few posts on Off-Topic forums, contributing jokes, 3 word story things, general fun and games.
These were clumped into one ridiculous looking post, putting my posts from 10 back down to 2.
I had a read through this - http://forum.xda-developers.com/announcement.php?a=81
Anybody spot what I've done wrong?
This site specifically stops new members from posting more than once every 5 minutes, and I'm not allowed to post on any meaningful forums, so I don't understand what the heck I'm supposed to be posting on!! Can't even post jokes without them getting removed!!!

The Q&A and General forums are as meaningful as the forums that you are obviously referring to (development forums).
The rule is there to stop absolutely ridiculously selfish noobs going into dev forums and creating posts (or even worse, creating threads!) that simply say "I can't do this.... I can't do that...."
Anyone that's been on here a while and now knows what they are doing will tell you, 100% accurately, that most of the time you only have to read a little longer and you find your answer. It's VERY unlikely that you have a question that hasn't been asked before.
Try contributing meaningfully to the Q&A and General forums for your device. You may find that you enjoy helping people, rather than just coming here to leech and demand answers (not saying you do that - just saying it happens).
Good luck mate

Ok, fair point, I was referring to this off-topic forum, which I thought was just for fun.
But my point remains: what did I do wrong to get my posts clumped together? I posted genuine posts in this off-topic forum as this site permitted me too.
And while I appreciate you were referring to the typical noob when you pulled out the big phrases ("absolutely ridiculously selfish noobs" ..... "I can't do this.... I can't do that...." etc.) remember, you don't know me.... you don't know what I was or wasn't going to post, suggest, answer, ask - you only assume
My question related to the forum rules (which I searched for ), and in what way - by posting a few jokes in joke forums - I had broken them.
Maybe the moderators should update those rules and make them a little clearer next time, particularly with regards to this 10 post thing.
Just a helpful suggestion.

I wasn't assuming - I wouldn't do that because you're right, I don't know you. I iterated the point in order to explain the type of person that has unfortunately brought about the need for such rules. They can be a pain for genuinely non-pleblike users, but most of them will understand the need for such rules as they tend to make the site that little bit better.
Anyway, just don't clump a load of posts together and you'll be fine.
The merge feature is automatic and happens to everyone, even Mods such as myself. You did nothing wrong in the aspect, however, I will be deleting this thread as it is yet another way to increase post count. Do as the poster above suggested and head over to Q&A to contribute some meaningful posts. If you have more questions on the rule, see the link in my sig.
This may or may not be what you're talking about, but the site did recently implement a change where posts are auto-merged if they are back to back within a certain time frame.*

Anyone know how to display this Today Scren???
http://img402.imageshack.us/my.php?image=display1vu1.png
* note that into sms and call icon there is a '0' that indicates notification
thanks.
If you want that screen so badly, why not get an iPhone?
Maybe because the iPhone interface is cool but the iPhone itself is useless?

you got the point.. i also like the custom big display icons at the buttom that indicates number of missing call and sms...
this has nothing to do with an iPhone .. thats why i have a Kaiser
I'm with you, bud... This is most definitely not the iPhone developers forum!
Well, phone alarm has an Ipod lookalike for sms and phone call like the image here...

from these, you can build up your own similar ipod lookalike interface if this hits your fancy..

The "today screen" thread is multiple pages long. If you post there you are going to get very little exposure, except from the few people following it on a daily basis. And besides, that's supposed to be for "showing" your today screen, not asking questions about it. Starting a new thread only makes sense. Try not to be so harsh.

If you had read the thread, you would know that the OP asked the exact same question in that thread that he did when starting this thread. Since nobody answered him within 5 minutes there, he started a new thread.
starting a new thread in this forum is felt like being bashed, even a noob will bash you straight like a barbarian, as if noob aint noob
anyway, there are certain applications that might customize your today screen, might want to check on ilauncher, or what i suspect, it could be wisbad advance DESKTOP that the OP used for today screen, helped with some iphone icons
I may not have that many posts, but I have been here long enough (well over a year) to know that people won't spoonfeed you the answers. You need to do some legwork yourself and search, read, search, read and search some more. The answers are out there.
When I got my 8125, I read every post I could about it. I upgraded to the 8525. I read and searched some more. Now I have the Tilt. I have read and searched my arse off to find the answers. I post very little because the answers are already out there, you just need to find the information.
This forum is great. There are great people here doing good things for the betterment of everyone who owns a phone. I read this forum all day long, finding cool little tweaks to try on my phone. I find a sense of satisfaction knowing that I know more about my phone than most people will ever know (or care to know) and I did that by searching for the information and reading.
While I stand relatively neutral on this issue, which seems to have spawned from thread to thread, I'm more inclined towards Lidberg's point of view. While I understand the needs of noobs in asking questions, but noobs do not hold the ultimate power to do everything just because of the noob status. As asking (especially starting a new thread) questions without first putting in some effort in searching (yes, the search function of this forum is relatively retarded), do cause issues. For a start, there is a case of a ROM cooker leaving/not-ROM-cooking just because a millions of noobs came in and flooded the thread with gazillions silly questions, that're probably answered within the same thread.
Having said that, I do not encourage bashing/flaming, also not encourage starting new threads unnecessarily (especially, within a time frame of less than 3 hours). While I sympathize (but not encourage) people creating threads when their phone is bricked, creating a thread on a 'non-life-threatening' issue (i.e. just for a pretty face) is just some what over the top.
Lidberg: while you are relatively a 'oldies' here, and you know your way putting effort in searching for answers, it may be helpful that you take a bit of your time to answering questions that is some what interest to you. And, if you were to have another 'noobs starting threads' issues, you may want to put your words in a slightly nicer manner I agree with you that you should not spoon feed them, but from what it seems, you are very good in searching for answers, and perhaps you should transfer this skill to the new comers
jakontil: while I like you being helpful in taking care of the noobs, you may want to divert your efforts in answering more (perhaps simple) noobs questions rather than putting the effort on going over a every going arguement (refer to the link below)
You may want to read / 'continue to express your opinion' on the thread below
Why are people on this forum so damn temperamental?
I guess my attempt at sarcasm didn't translate too well here, eh?
It wasn't that the OP created this thread, it was that he also posted on the "post your today screen" thread, and even asked the guy who originally posted that screen the same question. If it were me, I would've PM'ed the guy who made the screen and ask him how he did it. Problem solved.

Fake?
i think they are referring to the 10.1
For sure referring to the Galaxy Tab 10.1 handed out at Google IO. This should be in General or Q&A next time.
The Android 3.0 HoneyComb is designed to suit the needs of Tablets by Google. Actually, there is no official Android 3.0 HoneyComb update for 7 inch Samsung Galaxy Tab. But the developers at XDA has been testing the Android Honeycomb on the 7 Inch Samsung Galaxy Tab. Now there is new progress, Spacemoose1 at XDA has recently ported the Android Honeycomb to the Samsung's 7 inch Galaxy Tab. But there is something wrong.

I edited it to remove some of the images I added, so what? Your point wasn't really about the amount of images it was that I posted the image in the first place!
Also any mod can see, edit history on this forum so I wasn't exactly trying to hide it either. I posted the image to make a point!
PS. My definition of spam is posting topics like this in a section designed for posting projects/reference.

Well my definition of spam is something that is applied over and over again... Such as you posting that damned image 20+ times.
I actually think the image is a good idea if used in PROPER context... instead of spamming someones thread with it. Instead, point it out to them.

I DID apply it in the proper context, ie a user posted i wrong place, the image points out the sticky and announcement regarding this EXACT issue.
What other context could the image be used in ??
PS. You was moaning about it even before I "spammed" this topic. You was saying I thought I was a mod in the other topic I posted a single image in. I dont do this because I want to be a mod, I do it because its annoying when this forum gets diluted and its blatantly obvious that these topics do not belong here.

Again, you only see what you want to see.
You put that thing in the original post more than 20 times. THAT IS SPAM You are a bigger wanker than I gave credit for if you don't see that. Even Chainfire noticed and removed them from another thread...
I also said the image was a good idea except you use it to spam people. Just because you edited it to remove your idiocy doesn't justify it.
Instead, post the image ONCE and remind the newbie that he should have checked the circled post before posting in this forum.
Just because your sick of seeing newbies doesn't mean you acting childish is going to stop the plethora of people flocking to this forum with no idea what is going on.
Than again, you must be perfect like Jebus, and couldn't understand being new or even *gasp* mistaken.

This discussion is over.
I come onto these forums and for the most part, people are kind and considerate. Then there's a handful of people who just ruin it. I read a posting in one of the forums this morning. Obviously it was in the wrong section, but that's obvious to me and others who have browsed these forums for a while.
What's the first reply I read? It's an offensive posting using derogatory name calling meant to put the OP down. It's one thing to correct someone, but it doesn't mean we beat them down in the process. Why are we trying to make people feel stupid?
If it bothers you to the point where you want to call someone names and try to make them feel like ##### then maybe you need to step away and cool down. Give a gentle nudge, report it to a moderator(so they can move it), and go about your way.

Sadly, it is degenerating lately and bad behaviour becomes more prevalent. Here is to hoping that it will get better in the future.

Just ignore them, that's my advice to you.

No one is entitled to the right to be rude freely.Yeah,I too sometimes am bothered by some people who actually cause trouble by repeating already answered questions or that are too lazy to search, but I never got rude-at least not without apologizing afterwards.

Yes, I've watched the noob video recently and find it extremely funny, not offensive.
Anyway, I'm just hoping we can all think before we post. It was just a vent, hopefully in the right section
Spot on. There is never a need to put someone down. I'm relatively new to this forumn and often find myself hesitant to post for fear of being berated. However, for every one asshole spouting off, there are twenty excellent members who will happily answer your question or point in the proper direction without being nasty about it.
well just my 2 cents, but i went from the dell streak forum and it was awesome i helped ppl they helped me never any rude answers. got myself a galaxy tab bc of more development and its full of dickheads (not everyone) i dont even post in that forum sucks bc i love my tab but every time ive posted i get a rude answer ppl are just mean

i only call ppl out when they deserve it like the other day in the cdma hero forums when a certain someone cough... andy lowe.. cough triple posted asking the same question and was not clear at all so yea ill definitly call someone out when they deserve how else are u going to keep noobs in line.
I agree with the OP. There are plenty of people on this site that need an attitude check. Everyone starts somewhere, you learn things by asking questions, and having people to guide you. You do not learn anything by being told off by some random person who thinks they are better than you, because god knows why.
There are also the exact opposite though, it seems few and far between, because most of the time the people that are rude give everyone else a bad rap. I have found plenty posts that are very helpful and have answered my questions, but a lot of the times browsing through other threads, when people have simple questions or comments to be made they are attacked by the "know it alls".
1. If the poster is offensive, report.
2. If the OP is retarded and made mistakes even after being told to read the rules, he deserves to... be re-educated.
3. This topic is redundant.
ever notice how people like to ask " did you search before posting this thread?"
seems to me that is just as much waste as posting in the wrong place or posting before searching. everyone wants an organized xda site but what is the deal with these guys who have ten million posts and half are "did you search?" or "there is already a thread"
are these guys just trying to bump up there number of posts thinking that will increase their geek cred?
yes it is annoying when a post was not presearched or posted in the wrong place but equally annoying is the thread's first three responses saying " there is already a thread for that" or " did you search?" yet no link to the active thread the person was or should have been looking for the whole time.
why not just post the link to the thread they should have asked the question? i bet there are thousands of posts in the wrong place or posts with questions already asked but i bet there are just as many post that say "did you search" which is equally wasteful.
now, for all you gravediggers, go find where this has already been posted because it prob has then you can boost your post numbers with that stupid question, "did you search before posting?"
Yeah, i've never used the XDA search "engine" . The reason for that is that i think the search engine here is at best utterly useless. So how do i get around this big place? Good question. I guess i just know where to look for stuff, or maybe i'm just magic, like Steve.
But to be honest i just use Google. If i try to find the Minimalistic Text thread i search for "Minimalistic Text xda-developers.com" or something else like "missed it xda-developers.com" (for the app Missed It!) and so on.

Hi,
Please refer to my sig...guide number 3
We get tired of getting a million threads asking
For ETA's, like we are psychic or something.
Redundant questions get asked, even though there are like a million people who don't know what they are doing asking the same question on the same page of the board.
people making topics all day long about how they bricked their phone flashing a ROM from a different device.
It clogs up the board with useless topics, basically this boards has become very unproductive and Cluttered with dumb post/questions/fighting
Its really not fair for the rest of us, who are good members and take time to read and educate ourselves.
Put some stickies up or something to help these people that are tool lazy or dumb to read
We have had enough, these people deteriorate the forum

It's sometimes hard to differentiate the signal from the noise... especially those with ambiguous subject lines.
Probly a good idea, although number one priority should be restoring Searching within threads so people can find their own answers!

Let's start by deleting this post first. Useless!!!
OP seems to be knowlegeable so perhaps you can help?
What is Rooting?
How do i install a custom ROM?
Can i return to stock if i unlock my recover loader?
What is a CWM?
What is a Sticky?
Where is the Search function and how does it work?
***URGENT***
Can i have an ETA on the answers please?
TIA.
I used to help people in the Q&A section, but after a while it felt like Groundhog Day. The same questions over and over again. The bastards almost killed me! KILLED ME.
There are many stickies suggesting people search before posting.
Do they read them?
No...
Do the moderation team do their best to keep the forums free of spam/clutter/trolls?
Yes.......
Can they be expected to be everywhere at once and delete every single duplicate or pointless (in your opinion) post?
No.....
What can you do to help?
Use the report function on items that require moderation instead of starting a thread to moan about it....
Now, about those pointless threads cluttering up the forum.........

Hahahaha I'd rather not waste my time, seeing as how all the info you need is right on the first page of the development section.
Each of the questions you asked even has its, own thread, conveniently organized in top to bottom fashion. Very organized, so that the user can find the desired info quickly and easily.
Each thread will also come with a tutorial.....these, tutorials will wall you through whatever you need to do, it will hold your hand and guide you through it, to prevent the user from screwing up. The authors will even use bold capitalized lettering to emphasize the severity of some of the steps you take, and giving you the needed fair warnings, explaining that they Are not responsible for you're phone if out beaks.
What this means is If you're phone breaks, 99% of the time said user did not follow instructions.
clockwork mod is the tool you see recommended to flash, restore, and back up roms. It can be found on the Market. Of you do not know what something is or what a certain setting does, then don't mess with it.
At the end of the day I wasted 10 minutes of my life, typing on small cellphone, using sword with humongous hands and thumbs (excuse any typos) to answer some obvious questions that could have been found very easily....do you understand how my life would have been easier, had you just looked in the development section and answered you're questions
This is an example

You are absolutely right! As a moderator, I should really be reading every single thread that is created and every single post that is made. If I did that, users such as yourself would have such a better life here on XDA.
Thank you so much for your input. I think I will take your advice now by closing this utterly ridiculous thread. Again, thank you for opening my eyes to this madness.
