Hey everyone,
I just wanted to post some pics of a stand that I put together. At first I bought one from BoxWave that they had up labeled as a Bamboo NOOKcolor stand.
http://www.boxwave.com/nookcolor-cradles-and-mounts/bamboo-nookcolor-stand/bwpdd/tpt-zfkf
Since I purchased it, they have changed the image on there website, though. Originally it was pretty misleading on the dimensions of the stand. I paid $30 for this thing and really it's only meant for a cellphone. It's absolutely way too small to hold up the NOOKcolor without tipping over.
Anyway, I liked the design of it so I went out and bought a bamboo cutting board from Walmart for $20 and cut it up into a bunch of pieces. I made myself a cardboard template based on that smaller stand I originally bought. I stacked all the pieces and then glued them together. I don't have a band saw so I found this really nice guy who has a shop over at Etsy who agreed to cut it out for me. He really did an awesome job. The link to his shop is here
http://www.etsy.com/people/irishmanswoodworks
in case anyone wants him to make one for you.
After I got it back from being cut out I sanded it up a bit more, put several coats of Tung oil and glued on a piece of felt. I think it came out really nice in the end. I attached some pics, so let me know what you guys think
That looks Amazingly Simple to do.
That is really quite snazzy!
I love it! Great work!
The only wood I'm good at working is ......
LOL tooo easy.
It does look beautiful. Does he use other exotic woods and stains?
I supplied the glued up bamboo board for him to cut, but I'm sure he can make it out of whatever you would want.
What a sweet stand. It looks really nice.
This is exactly what I'm looking for! I use XBMC in my living room and my Nook color is my remote. Thing is it runs out of juice all the time since I keep it on 24/7 and its a pain to charge. I'd like to see you drill a small square hold in the center of the bamboo where it can "dock" and run it out the back USB. Then we can run the usb to the AC outlet/USB Charger and have a Charging Dock!
Thats pretty awsome
Great work!

Couple this one with a Sprint charger , Clip it to the vent and you are on your way. It can be found at Target and Advance auto parts. Of course you can buy a 119 dollars dash from Seidio if you wish however this one if for simple guys looking for functionality and low price.
Later
Noteictures taken with the mean Sanyo 9000. That is a great phone.
I had one almost identical to that when I had my PPC6700Q, but it had a bendable arm rather than a vent mount.. needless to say, my car rides a little rough thanks to lowered suspension and the bendable arm broke, dropping my nearly new PPC6700Q on the shift knob, which happened to be made of solid aluminum.
Glad yours is working out for you, though
Thanks Mak, so far so good man. That thing has a good grip on the Mogul,it ain't going nowhere unless I flip that biatch again, but then I didn't flip any since I stopped drinking 5 years ago.lol
nice, so this is just the regular dash mount? just wonderin, will the mogul fit snuggly or will i have to stuff other things to make it fit?
hey Total:
This is a good unit man, you do not have to add anything . Just take it out of the box, install te clips and get the side arms to open up to hug the mogul tight since they are adjustable. No vibrations. Give it a shot.
good to hear. maybe i'll stop by my local target sometime this week. thanks!
is "Stype" the brand? also what department did you find it in at target?
"typeS" is indeed the brand. The unit was with other car accessories like wipers, cleaning supplies and others. I hope you find it becasue this thing does what's needed. A friend has one slightly different, little ticker and take a bit more space. I elected this silver one coz it is slim and looks kool also the bottom arms that holds the Mogul foldes up. Good luck
Picked 2 up today from Target for 5 bucks each. They were on clearance and it does it's job well. Thanks for the find.
Good move Will, I am glad to hear man.
I went to my local Target and picked up 3 of them for $8 bucks. Mogul fits well....
thanks for the find.
You guys are making a kill. Good job.

So, I think I found it at Advance Auto Parts
Does that look right?
The brand is right but the look is different, the back of it looks little fat . That doesn't mean it won't work. Are you planning on ordering it online or picking it up?

I think I'll pick it up to make sure it fits. I'll have to drive across town, but weekends are for this sort of thing, right?
Thanks.

Good idea man, hit Target if there is any around where you live. Good luck .
for those who were able to pick up this unit, could you please provide any feedback? thanks.
What those of us that have the extended battery?
bah, both target and the advance by house did not have this unit. advance had scosche units and forgot what target had. I will try again since at both store teh items were on "clearance"
Well we don't have a Target and the Advance Autoparts didn't have the OP's item but I found a similar one at Walmart for $8 that also works well. Its the Onyx XT MP3 Player / Phone Holder.
The vent mount one is $5 and I haven't tried it but the goose neck suction cup one was only $8.
Here's a pic.
Here's the manufacturer's link.
http://www.causa.com/store/catalog.asp?item=3127&lang=en&navParent_id=108&category_id=120
Holds tightly and the goose neck is fairly rigid with minimal bounce when braced against the dash. Edit: And the phone charger does fit nicely under the metal bottom segment. The buttons are all accessable even with the bar...
Of course YMMV....
Has anyone here ordered or used they're skin it offer when you guys received your myTouch?
or has anyone used skin it before and what did you guys think of it?
i have one on my g1, and just ordered a custom one for my MyTouch 3G.... I like them. they are very durable, easy to put on, and fit under the snap on clear cases i use. the stretch to go around bent corners and such, to stay smooth with no bubbles or wrinkles.

Personally, I wouldn't order a skin (hate the way the peel up), but I would order one of the custom shells. Know a girl that just got one a couple days ago and it's damn near melted on. . . it's not going anywhere. lol
I have a gel skin (case) from T-Mobile on my HTC Magic and it's alright. It doesn't fit as snug as I would like and it's a dust/lint magnet. Perhaps, that is the case with all gel skins though. Finally, the hole at the bottom covers up the microphone hole on the phone but ppl still hear me ok, so it doesn't seem to be a problem.
Overall, it does the job of protecting the phone.
It's not realy a skin. they actually print the image on a battery cover. Overall it's not bad. The image you use will have a lot to do with the quality of the printing. If you use the 25% off code it comes to about 17 bucks and change with shiping. For the price I am happy with mine. I am going to order another as soon as payday rolls around.
I ordered one but it was a custom image. It looked great online but terrible when I got it. They were extremely fast in replacing it but the second one looked really bad as well. The image quality was good but it doesn't really cover most of the phone so you have all these white spots where there is no coverage.
So they gave me a shell. This was much better but the image quality isn't that good.
All and all they were extremely nice and fast.
So the shell is actually another back plate printed with your design? I hope I read that right, because I have a crack in my back plate near where the camera is and it makes me nuts, I ordered my shell last week, now im just waiting....
Last night I got inspired (by the Netflix app ) to make a functional and nice looking stand. But instead of jumping in blindly with plexiglass or something I built a prototype out of cardboard.
I was thinking of making the final version a bit smaller so it fits nicer when vertical and maybe making a notch in it so the home button is accessible. Something I can't figure out how to fix is that the speaker is inside the stand when vertical. But other than that I'm really happy how this turned out and can't wait to make a final version.
Attached are some pictures of it holding the Nook horizontal and vertical. Any comments, ideas or questions would be appreciated. Thank you.
Not bad though if you are worried about the speaker it would be realy easy to rigup a pair of speakers with a 1/8" stereo jack on your final build
Wouldnt it just be easier/cheaper to buy one of those stands?
Im all about making custom things, but in this case, I dont see the benfit of what you made versus this: http://www.amazon.com/Arkon-Portabl...VOOY/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1305477985&sr=8-2

Ah phooey! I see the benefit of DIY. True, sometimes there are cheaper solutions out there. But this user's solution gave "me" many ideas for other devices, my wife's iPad, my Evo, Books! I like the ingenuity involved in the OP's solution. I'm going to make something like this out of plexiglass--the OP's idea. 1 sheet of pl (home depot), my jigsaw, some cement, buff the edges, felt the edges to protect the nook, rubber little feet (Rite Aid), listen to jazz while I'm making it and have a blast! $20. It's going to look a lot better than a little cheap rack holding holding up a nook. Nice going!
I agree, sometimes it's about the journey, not the destination.

I have one of these and, while it's great for my XOOM, it doesn't really fit the NC very well. It's OK for landscape but if you want your NC to stand in portrait while charging you have to put the stand on a book or the edge of a table to allow space for the cable. Actually I found this thread because I was looking for a better stand.
I definitely see the advantages of DIY to satisfy your own requirements. Good luck!
I use this case stand since I got my Nook Color in January. I see that now Amazon for fulfils the orders for it now. I had to wait two weeks back then but it was worth it. No excuses not to get it now.
http://www.amazon.com/rooCASE-Leath...3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1306015551&sr=1-3
Get a good Bluetooth keyboard I actually bought the Apple one from Amazon and you're in heaven.
Hy there,
after getting my Nook two weeks ago, I found the thread about making the box to a stand. But I thought only the box is a little bit boring. So I printed some copies of Batman comics and glued them on the box.
Attached is the result. I think it's a great result.
lol i dig it
Needs a pair of PC speakers glued to the sides
J/k. I was actually considering building a "movie watching" stand with speakers attached, but it would cost an extra power cable if I wanted to build it in a-la iPod docks.
This is awesome. Makes me want to dig out my old stickerbomb book and find my nook color box
Flipping AWESOME! Congratulation, I can't hardly see how the concept could of been pasted together better.
Being the dense over medicated drooler that I am, I wasn't even aware the case was also designed to be a decent stand. I see you notched out the left and right sides so it can rest horizontally as well.
I think I will add a soft, maybe foam clip device toward the top so it doesn't tip over.
Fill the cord box with rocks and tape it into bottom of the larger box so it will be more stable.
Small powered speakers could be a useful option, as well as fun.
With my transient double vision, I think I'll likely deck it out in simple gun gray or bronze.
Thanks a heap for sharing the photos.
Here's the case:

It has all of the correct cutouts. I also like that the speaker cutout is open, as opposed to a bunch of holes like I've seen in other cases. It does add some bulk due to the fact that it can rotate 360 degrees, but it not enough that I can't slip it in my rear pant pockets. It has a loop for the stylus, as well as the magnet wake/lock. It also doesn't have the flaw that other cases have where it locks the tablet when you fold the cover back against itself. I like the white stitching and the fact that it doesn't cover the bezel, which is a deal breaker for me, since covered bezels tend to hinder you when navigating the UI. It also has deep grooves so that it doesn't slip when you have it propped open. Also, when in Portrait mode, you can only use it on the last groove. Any of the other 2 grooves can't support it. When it is on the last groove, I can use it without feeling like it's going to fall back, so it's supported very well in that aspect.
This is the same case that I have for my Blackberry Playbook, and on that back of the Playbook, it has the Blackberry Logo, which you can see through that open hole in the back so it looks nice. On the Nexus, there's no logo or anything on the back that shows through the hole, so I wish that it was covered for the Nexus version. Another small gripe would be the location of the Stylus loop.....if you have the case open and you have a stylus in it, the tab will be at a slight angle. I tested it and it doesn't take away from the sturdiness of it, just a small observation.
All in all, I'm happy with it so far. The seller refunded me the money since I was supposed to receive it last week and it got lost misplaced somewhere in shipping and ended up getting routed to Cali first before coming here, so I give him props for great customer service.
Nice review! The case looks better than I had imagined.
I got the same case delivered on Saturday. Works well. Feel a lot safer carrying it around to and from work now.
I may get the slim fit version as well at some point so it isn't quite as thick, but it does feel solid in this thing.
I notice you have a skin on the back of your nexus. Does it get in the way with the case at all, and if you pull the tab out of the case, has it mangled the skin at all on any pressure points?
I have a skin as well but am reluctant to put it on for this reason, and being that the back is rubberized i dont feel like it really needs it in the first place.
Thanks for the review. Really wish they had more color choices! I want a case that sits portrait (I read a lot) & landscape (Netflix). I already have a case for now, but I'm looking to replace it with one that does everything I want... like this one! I'll wait it out a bit & see if they come out with more colors.

Yes, I have an XtremeGuard body protector on it and it doesn't get in the way. I've taken it out of the case a few times and the protector's not bunching up. The protector's been on the Nex7 for over a week, so it's cured pretty well. I wouldn't try it on a fresh protector install. I'd give it about a week so that it sets right before putting it in a case like this.

I'm OK with the black case.....never been a fan of colorful cases. If I had to pick 1 other color, it would probably be like a dark blue.....nothing girly LOL
Nce review ty, I like the case seems decent for protection...even tho a tad thick. I think I well get this one even so based on the review plus I like the look.

I have switched in the last few weeks to the Paranoid Android ROM with the Trinity Kernel. It runs great.
Thought about this case as well, but went with the official travel case.
Bought this case because of your review. It's exactly what I was looking for. Thanks.
Sent from my Google Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
I have a similar one bought off ebay. I'm happy with it. The only downside of that case is the circular bit at the back where it rotates. It can potentially scratch the back of the Nexus 7 so I have put a clear protective plastic on the back of the N7.
