Hey guys i've read all the instructions and it seems fairly straightforward, flash with odin first to Ficeto and then use CWM to flash it to V10.1..
Problem is, I'm already on Darkys V8.0, I have no idea where to start? Do i need Ficeto, do I just backup all my **** and then flash it? Will I lose apps?
So lost.
Cheers boys!
Firstly wadever u do backup all ur wanted apps
Secondly disable lagfix before flashin new rom( nt sure if its right)
Thirdly dl ur new rom and put on sdcard not external
Fourly go into recovery mode install zip from sdcard than select the zip wait for it to install
When finish go in and restore all ur apps
I never enabled any lagfixes though?
and how do I backup my apps?
Also guys what is this JVH and JVK stuff?
Is Darkys Gingerbread V8.1 with Kernel 2.6.32.9 ([email protected] #62)
appropriate to upgrade straight to V10.5 like the above user has said?
I've already read the rest about uploading to SDCARD then booting into CWM and flashing, just need to know the rest!
Thanks guys

V8.0 is bases on Froyo (Android 2.2.x), V10.1 on Gingerbread (Android 2.3.x). So DON'T flasg directly from 8.0 to 10.1. Flash any stock-firmware WITH bootloader first (I think the best way wouls be to use Ficeto's but I'm not quite sure it contains the bootloader). Them after installing the stock-ROM you have to root your phone (just flash another kernel) and finally flash 10.1 with CWM and you are done.

Hello.
I currently have a 2.2 galaxy s firmware witch i got using kies. I added the voodoo lagfix kernel to it.As i have read in the description, clockwork mod doesn't work with voodoo, so i'm stuck using odin for updating.
So, for the question: Is it safe to upgrade to 2.2.1 from Kies? And, moreover, how can I flash a costum rom like darky's or cyanogen? (i'm not sure about them).
P.S. How can I come back to stock 2.2 and delete the Voodoo kernel
Please help,
Thanks
create a folder within the Voodoo folder called "disable_lagfix" then restart the phone, it should convert back to RFS from EXT4 and return the rom to normal (ie. no lagfix applied)
once this is done, download whatever rom you want (JPY is the latest uk OFFICIAL relese i believe) or create your desired rom within Doc's Kitchen....
So, for the question: Is it safe to upgrade to 2.2.1 from Kies?
Yes otherwise it would not be offered by Samsung .
And, moreover, how can I flash a costum rom like darky's or cyanogen? (i'm not sure about them).
READ each post for instructions .

You should be SURE before flashing custom ROM. Read and collect as much information from their thread. This will minimize the risk for you to repeat same problems others have had...

Hi everyone, I am brand new sgs owner and first time smart phone user and I upgraded my phones firmware on kies to 2.3.3 / baseband xxjvo / build number gingerbread.xwjvh
I been talking to a few people that have got 2.3.4 and cyanogen mod 7. And I really want to get one of them because my battery life is pathetic on 2.3.3
I have an idea how to do it (I have watched alot of tutorials) but what is confusing me is all the different downloads like cwm and speed mod, kernals, ROMS. All these terms are driving me mad as I dont know if I need to flash this stuff first to upgrade the firmware.
I have been told I may or may not need to root my phone to make it all work because of the current firmware xxjvo 2.3.3?? So what do i do?
Can I just flash a new firmware on via odin? or do i need to flash diff kernals or clockwork mod or speed mod what ever they are to make it work properly.
Im sure its all easy enough once its understood but I cant find basic explanations for all these terms.
I really dont want to mess up my phone but i know I can get this done once i know how.
So could someone that knows please tell me once off, what do I have to do to upgrade from gingerbread 2.3.3 xxjvo to something better like cm7 or 2.3.4.
Do I need to root first? install CWM or speed mod or whatever.
Also what is CWM and speed mod. are the roots?
Sorry for not knowing anything as i said its my first smart phone and I want to get to know how to use it to its full extent
Will greatly appreciate any advice/ help given.
If some ones going to help me could they post the links to the downloads that i will need.
Thanks very much
1.its simple root ur fone first via odin and then flash the voodoo/fugumod lagfix(incase ur experience any lag)

3.Take a backup using Mybackuppro or titanium backup before u flash cm7
4.Go to Rom Mgr Premium and then install the rom of ur choice and also make sure u check GAPPS(if u want gmail, market an all crap)

Here are some posts I think will help u find some answers,
Download mode is HOME BUTTON+VOL DOWN+POWER BUTTON
Recovery mode is HOME BUTTON+ VOL UP+POWER BUTTON
1 Android ROM and rooting dictionary: all the terms explained
2 A link explaining how to flash a custom Rom via Odin and their downloads.
3 Deodexed Stock roms
Hope this helps. By the way all these are custom rom lists and not samsung stock firmware.

Could I upgrade from xxjvo without rooting?
Again sorry all the questions I feel like a dumbass.

Must the phone be rooted first? Must I install anything else before or after the new firmware
Thanks
Hi, check out samfirmware.com to download stock 2.3.4
I'm on the newest jvr, and my battery is good.
It's also flash manuals there for how to use odin.
thats the safest!
If you want root permission, you can flash cfroot kernel after the rom.
Edit: i'm on the oldest 2.3.4 jvr, looks like it came a new relese today.

Is a specific ROM needed to run a different firmwares? or vice verse?
If I flashed 2.3.4 does that mean I have a new ROM or new firmware or both?
thanks
Pls do refer my previous post for upgrading to 2.3.4 GB roms (2)
2.3.4 roms are way better for battery. There are some light weight roms with excellent battery life eg SURFACE,Matrux rom, Juwe's Smart Edition(My Pick) etc
You dont need to be rooted to flash a custom rom via ODIN.
CM7 is a custom rom and I would recommend it only if you know what u r doing. Its not very advisable for a noob (imho).
There is insanity cm7 034 with gb boot loaders [ROM] insanity CM 034 [16.08.2011] - Multi DPI But its in heavy dev stage. Pls go through their thread before flashing it.

such a noob question. I was wondering if there is a clean way to install the ICS into my gt-p1000. Clean meaning like the way overcome does it. Restore to Stock, then Install via Odin or something.
I am currently on Overcome-v4.0.0 #40 and planning to shift into cyanogen ICS alpha 4. could someone direct me to a guide or tell me how to safely and cleanly install the cyanogen ICS.
or is it fine to flash the Cyanogen ICS while still in overcome? im on ext4 already and my firmware version is 2.3.3

Yeah it should be fine. Download the rom from humberOS website and the p1000 kernel. Boot into recovery, flash the zip and then flash the kernel BEFORE rebooting. Obviouslyif you use a PC to download you will have to put both zips on your SD card. hope that is clear and helps, unless of course you have already flashed it successfully

HII ALLL.....
I m a newbie here...
Recently I got an SGS i9000 from my cousin which runs on FROYO 2.2 . Its very outdated so I thought its time that I give my SGS an update. For this I rooted my phone and installed ROM manager so that I can flash clock work recovery in it. But even after flashing CWM successfully it boots in android recovery. Its only then I got to know that my phone rune '3e' recovery and I need '2e' recovery for this.
Since a few days I was browsing on how to revert 3e recovery of mine back to 2e recovery. I found a handful of information regarding the same. A video in Youtube suggesting that I can use ODIN and flash the kernel to speedmod-k12 or i can even download CF_ root_"Build no".tar from xda and flash my kernel to get 2e recovery. Also to take a nandroid backup i need 2e recovery as 3e doesnt show any option for this. Can you suggest me which is the safest and best possible method to do the recovery reverting.
Details of my phone:
Model No : SGS GT-i9000
Firmware : 2.2
Baseband version : I9000JXJPE
Kernel version : 2.6.32.9 [email protected] # 91
Build no : FROYO.JPJPG
Also suggest me, if I am going to flash using CF_ root method , I cant find the kernel related to my build number JPG. Can I use JPE instead of that.
Thank you in advance
i think you wanna flash some gingerbread or maybe ice cream sandwich or jelly bean rom!
but for a person how hanv´t flashed anithing bevor i would suggest you only to flash gingerbread. becouse this ist the last android version suportet by samsung und till now the only one which has a stable releas for custom roms like minu or cyanogenmod (http://www.cyanogenmod.com/devices/samsung-galaxy-s).
the first thing you have to know is i think, that there ar different bootloaders for gingerbread.
so you have to flash them first like discribed in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1011701
if you have done this you are free to flash any gingerbread (or above) firmeware you want to.
here is a list of some stock firmewares: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=948790&highlight=all+gingerbread+bootloaders
these are not the fastest rom´s but they are stable, becouse they are made by samsung and there is only root integratet.
about the efs folder discribed in this thread. the efs folder is the lokation of your IMEI. in some crazy situations, most times only in not heavy testet alpha releases of for exemple cyenogenmod, ur IMEI get erased and with the safed es folder you can backup it the easy way.
for me personaly the best rom´s ever made are based on cyanogenmod. so if you wanne test it here is an update guid how to get cyanogenmod 7 (based on gingerbread): http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_S:_Full_Update_Guide
i hope i may helped you a litle
Hey

Sorry 4 being a noob...But let me ask u something...Isnt it betr 2 take a nandroid backup before i proceed with the installation of gingerbread..Incase if it gets bricked i can restore it back ....
Since my recovery is 3e there is no option of backup and recovery...I used a rom manager and flashed CWM ...but read somewhere that CWM works only wid 2e recovery ... So I just wanted to revert back my phone recovery to 2e...I saw in youtube a video showing that if i flash my kernel with speedmod-K12-500hz using odin, I get a speedmod kernel and CWM recovery....
I was not sure whether doing this would cause any probs to the device or is it ok to flash speedmod kernel..???
Thanx in advance

So wat i wanted 2 ask is can i flash my kernel to speedmod-K12 for CWM recovery.....or is there a betr suggestion frm ur side...??
speedmod kernal is a good choice! i did it that way i flashed the first time.
i don´t know the number of speedmod for froyo but i think you have posted the corect number of the kernel.
if you want to be 100% sure that you won´t lose your contakts you can use myphonexplorer to backup them to your computer bevor you flash spedmod

Dial in your phone: *#1234#
Look at CSC, it should be like CSC: I9000123456, the last 6 digits/letters are the CSC string, the first 3 letters of are your CSC code (Example: XEU, ITV, XSA...etc.).
Go to : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1102881 and download the firmware for your region and extract by using 7zip.
Enter Download Mode on your device and flash the firmware using Odin.
Find a Kernel with a build in CWM, almost all developers Kernels has that, flash as PDA.
Now you are ready to flash any ROM you like using CWM.
Take your time and read to know what you need to do and how.
Best of luck
Hello dear XDA peeps
I need some help here or maybe I dont, thats why Im asking!
I rooted and followed all the guides a couple of months back, must be over half a year, and installed ICS Stunner 1.4.19. At that time that was simply the most interesting for my Note. These days when more stable ICS roms seem much more appealing. Altho Im thinking Im waiting for a stable working beta for JB
Since I havent done some ROM loving for quite a while Im quite confused where to begin, do I need to upgrade CWM Manager first? I have version 3.15. Or can I go straight on new ROMs? I spent some time reading about updating CWM today and it seems I have a really dangerous kernel version, 3.0.15-I9220ZLP5-CL295568 and if I understand the CWM Manager thread correctly thats part of the dangerous kernels. Which seems quite dangerous to update it since I cant find a safe version of CWM Manager to update to.
So the bottom question, do I need to update CWM Manager first to do anything safe or update the kernel first to perhaps an old safe rooted GB kernel? All the guides and stuff says the safest way is to first install an old safe GB kernel and then install a ICS or JB kernel (not at the moment tho) but is this the truth in my case?
Anyway, I really appreciate if you could give me some advice here
Thanx in advance

There is newer cf root that is 5.6. This is a safe rooted stock kernel by chainfire with CWM manager.
The devs suggest when installing TW ics custom rom it is recommended to install it while already in ics rom.
First install stock gingerbread rom, while in gingerbread rom do the wiping data, cache, and dalvik and then flash ics rom for clean installation. DO NOT WIPE IN STOCK ICS ROM, DANGEROUS. READ THE WARNING IN THE FORUM.
You can choose any tw custom rom you like.
If you want suggestion on what custom rom just ask i gave you one.
Ok, still not sure what do to first but it is safe to install a GB rom first? Updating CWM isn't that important? What I meant was that I still cant find a fitting version to install. Nearest version is: CF-Root-SGN_DD_ODD_LP8-v5.5-CWM5.zip but thats on the danger list so Im still confused about what version to download.. :/
Perhaps CF-Root-SGN_DD_ODD_LP8-v5.6-CWM5.zip is safe to install tho?
EDIT: I saw that I had cf-root version 5.2, it was CWM Manager that was version 3.15
EDIT: getting a new baseband comes with a rom, no need to install baseband seperatly? For example, getting Cassie's XtraLiteRom Version X LC1 295Mb is getting my baseband LC1 too?

You can flash the cassies custom rom directly over the stunner rom if you want to, just be sure to use ABYSS KERNEL for wiping.
Base band also known as modem. There are many flashable modem to choose so no problem what modem you Want.
If you want to install cassies latest custom rom you will get also the latest CWM recovery and manager.
Uhm ok.. so much information Im confused as usual
