HII ALLL.....
I m a newbie here...
Recently I got an SGS i9000 from my cousin which runs on FROYO 2.2 . Its very outdated so I thought its time that I give my SGS an update. For this I rooted my phone and installed ROM manager so that I can flash clock work recovery in it. But even after flashing CWM successfully it boots in android recovery. Its only then I got to know that my phone rune '3e' recovery and I need '2e' recovery for this.
Since a few days I was browsing on how to revert 3e recovery of mine back to 2e recovery. I found a handful of information regarding the same. A video in Youtube suggesting that I can use ODIN and flash the kernel to speedmod-k12 or i can even download CF_ root_"Build no".tar from xda and flash my kernel to get 2e recovery. Also to take a nandroid backup i need 2e recovery as 3e doesnt show any option for this. Can you suggest me which is the safest and best possible method to do the recovery reverting.
Details of my phone:
Model No : SGS GT-i9000
Firmware : 2.2
Baseband version : I9000JXJPE
Kernel version : 2.6.32.9 [email protected] # 91
Build no : FROYO.JPJPG
Also suggest me, if I am going to flash using CF_ root method , I cant find the kernel related to my build number JPG. Can I use JPE instead of that.
Thank you in advance
i think you wanna flash some gingerbread or maybe ice cream sandwich or jelly bean rom!
but for a person how hanv´t flashed anithing bevor i would suggest you only to flash gingerbread. becouse this ist the last android version suportet by samsung und till now the only one which has a stable releas for custom roms like minu or cyanogenmod (http://www.cyanogenmod.com/devices/samsung-galaxy-s).
the first thing you have to know is i think, that there ar different bootloaders for gingerbread.
so you have to flash them first like discribed in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1011701
if you have done this you are free to flash any gingerbread (or above) firmeware you want to.
here is a list of some stock firmewares: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=948790&highlight=all+gingerbread+bootloaders
these are not the fastest rom´s but they are stable, becouse they are made by samsung and there is only root integratet.
about the efs folder discribed in this thread. the efs folder is the lokation of your IMEI. in some crazy situations, most times only in not heavy testet alpha releases of for exemple cyenogenmod, ur IMEI get erased and with the safed es folder you can backup it the easy way.
for me personaly the best rom´s ever made are based on cyanogenmod. so if you wanne test it here is an update guid how to get cyanogenmod 7 (based on gingerbread): http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_S:_Full_Update_Guide
i hope i may helped you a litle
Hey
For flashing ics or jb u need 2.3.6..so if kies still recognises ur phone..i say update it from there...
If it doesnt goto sammobile.com and signup and download the firmware u need and also the flashprograms,flashguides...
Its simply...
Cheers

Thanks for your guidance.....
Sorry 4 being a noob...But let me ask u something...Isnt it betr 2 take a nandroid backup before i proceed with the installation of gingerbread..Incase if it gets bricked i can restore it back ....
Since my recovery is 3e there is no option of backup and recovery...I used a rom manager and flashed CWM ...but read somewhere that CWM works only wid 2e recovery ... So I just wanted to revert back my phone recovery to 2e...I saw in youtube a video showing that if i flash my kernel with speedmod-K12-500hz using odin, I get a speedmod kernel and CWM recovery....
I was not sure whether doing this would cause any probs to the device or is it ok to flash speedmod kernel..???
Thanx in advance

Thanx 4 ur reply....
My internet connection is not tat gud ..so i wudnt prefer updating via kies.....
I downloaded XXJVU 2.3.6 from androidsoul.com... I m just a bit worried that I cant get a nandroid backup cos my recovery being 3e ....I have already flashed to CWM using Rom manager..but it wud work only on 2e recovery...
So wat i wanted 2 ask is can i flash my kernel to speedmod-K12 for CWM recovery.....or is there a betr suggestion frm ur side...??
speedmod kernal is a good choice! i did it that way i flashed the first time.
i don´t know the number of speedmod for froyo but i think you have posted the corect number of the kernel.
if you want to be 100% sure that you won´t lose your contakts you can use myphonexplorer to backup them to your computer bevor you flash spedmod

One more thing .....It is mentioned in the thread to use ext4 lagfix....How does that help my phone....Shud i flash the kernel then flash it with some custom rom of gingerbread and then lagfix or is it otherwise.....and is there any problems in me flashing with XXJVU 2.3.6 from froyo...Do i need 2 flash it with bootloaders....???
Thnx in advance...
Dial in your phone: *#1234#
Look at CSC, it should be like CSC: I9000123456, the last 6 digits/letters are the CSC string, the first 3 letters of are your CSC code (Example: XEU, ITV, XSA...etc.).
Go to : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1102881 and download the firmware for your region and extract by using 7zip.
Enter Download Mode on your device and flash the firmware using Odin.
Find a Kernel with a build in CWM, almost all developers Kernels has that, flash as PDA.
Now you are ready to flash any ROM you like using CWM.
Take your time and read to know what you need to do and how.
Best of luck

Hey guys i've read all the instructions and it seems fairly straightforward, flash with odin first to Ficeto and then use CWM to flash it to V10.1..
Problem is, I'm already on Darkys V8.0, I have no idea where to start? Do i need Ficeto, do I just backup all my **** and then flash it? Will I lose apps?
So lost.
Cheers boys!
Firstly wadever u do backup all ur wanted apps
Secondly disable lagfix before flashin new rom( nt sure if its right)
Thirdly dl ur new rom and put on sdcard not external
Fourly go into recovery mode install zip from sdcard than select the zip wait for it to install
When finish go in and restore all ur apps
I never enabled any lagfixes though?
and how do I backup my apps?
Also guys what is this JVH and JVK stuff?
Is Darkys Gingerbread V8.1 with Kernel 2.6.32.9 ([email protected] #62)
appropriate to upgrade straight to V10.5 like the above user has said?
I've already read the rest about uploading to SDCARD then booting into CWM and flashing, just need to know the rest!
Thanks guys

V8.0 is bases on Froyo (Android 2.2.x), V10.1 on Gingerbread (Android 2.3.x). So DON'T flasg directly from 8.0 to 10.1. Flash any stock-firmware WITH bootloader first (I think the best way wouls be to use Ficeto's but I'm not quite sure it contains the bootloader). Them after installing the stock-ROM you have to root your phone (just flash another kernel) and finally flash 10.1 with CWM and you are done.

Hi everyone, I am brand new sgs owner and first time smart phone user and I upgraded my phones firmware on kies to 2.3.3 / baseband xxjvo / build number gingerbread.xwjvh
I been talking to a few people that have got 2.3.4 and cyanogen mod 7. And I really want to get one of them because my battery life is pathetic on 2.3.3
I have an idea how to do it (I have watched alot of tutorials) but what is confusing me is all the different downloads like cwm and speed mod, kernals, ROMS. All these terms are driving me mad as I dont know if I need to flash this stuff first to upgrade the firmware.
I have been told I may or may not need to root my phone to make it all work because of the current firmware xxjvo 2.3.3?? So what do i do?
Can I just flash a new firmware on via odin? or do i need to flash diff kernals or clockwork mod or speed mod what ever they are to make it work properly.
Im sure its all easy enough once its understood but I cant find basic explanations for all these terms.
I really dont want to mess up my phone but i know I can get this done once i know how.
So could someone that knows please tell me once off, what do I have to do to upgrade from gingerbread 2.3.3 xxjvo to something better like cm7 or 2.3.4.
Do I need to root first? install CWM or speed mod or whatever.
Also what is CWM and speed mod. are the roots?
Sorry for not knowing anything as i said its my first smart phone and I want to get to know how to use it to its full extent
Will greatly appreciate any advice/ help given.
If some ones going to help me could they post the links to the downloads that i will need.
Thanks very much
1.its simple root ur fone first via odin and then flash the voodoo/fugumod lagfix(incase ur experience any lag)
2.Download Rom Mgr premium and download (cyanogen mod7 ,nightlies or watever)
3.Take a backup using Mybackuppro or titanium backup before u flash cm7
4.Go to Rom Mgr Premium and then install the rom of ur choice and also make sure u check GAPPS(if u want gmail, market an all crap)
I m a newbie 2 Galaxy S myself, but i have quite som experience on rooting other fones

2 A link explaining how to flash a custom Rom via Odin and their downloads.
3 Deodexed Stock roms

How safe is it to use a custom rom instead of a Samsung rom.
Can some one tell me is there a particular order I need to follow to upgrade my phones firmware.

Could I upgrade from xxjvo without rooting?
Again sorry all the questions I feel like a dumbass.

Again sorry for being persistent but could someone give be a step by step quire to upgrading my current firmware xxjvo 2.3.3 to something better for battery and better radio signal.
Must the phone be rooted first? Must I install anything else before or after the new firmware
Thanks
Hi, check out samfirmware.com to download stock 2.3.4
I'm on the newest jvr, and my battery is good.
It's also flash manuals there for how to use odin.
thats the safest!
If you want root permission, you can flash cfroot kernel after the rom.
Edit: i'm on the oldest 2.3.4 jvr, looks like it came a new relese today.

Is a specific ROM needed to run a different firmwares? or vice verse?
If I flashed 2.3.4 does that mean I have a new ROM or new firmware or both?
thanks
Pls do refer my previous post for upgrading to 2.3.4 GB roms (2)
2.3.4 roms are way better for battery. There are some light weight roms with excellent battery life eg SURFACE,Matrux rom, Juwe's Smart Edition(My Pick) etc
You dont need to be rooted to flash a custom rom via ODIN.
CM7 is a custom rom and I would recommend it only if you know what u r doing. Its not very advisable for a noob (imho).

Well my problem is that I flashed my Gnote with ICS and now seems to be a problem with the kernels ( i read it here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=26272631 )
So as that thread says, now i have to change the kernel by flashing with odin/heimdall, but i wanted to ask you guys if any kernel will work with my rom or not... and if you can give me a link with a safe one (i didn't find any link to say that is safe, although i have to confess that i haven't searched too much neither ) I have this ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1589375 but v01 and i'll upload a screencapture with the system info because i think that would be useful.
Thank to evereybody and lets hope that the problem is going to be fixed soon

Flash this kernel to be on a safe kernel flash via Odin http://forum.xda-developers.com/atta...4&d=1337346991
Read here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1627854
the first link doesnt work, and about the second, what you want me to say is that is ok to flash the kernel they recommend there via odin and no need to change my rom right?
really thank you i was pretty worried about this problem...
WAIT
I think you should go back to stock GB and then use one of the safe kernels to install an ICS rom, like CM9.
I'm really a bit confused but this is from what I understand.
I still don't know what to do... does the kernel have to be combatible with the rom or it doesn't matter which ROM i'm on? for now i want to keep this ROM because works really good or to get the original ICS... so guys what do you say? Is it ok if i flash the kernel that brockyneo told me?
I would reccomend flashing the latest cm9 nightly as the rom your using is a old unoffical version of it. In order to do this flash the kernal i have attached via mobile odin (your phone will NOT boot using this kernal so make sure you go into recovery). Then flash the abyss note kernal via cwm, after which go into advanced and reboot recovery. Then in this recovery you can flash the CM9
Hope that helps
hi.
i have an Australian N7000B Note, and it is currently rooted on the latest available android in the country for the phone (2.3.6)
i have superuser and CWM installed.
i can boot into CWM and navigate with no worries, but whenever i try to install any custom rom, regardless what rom it is, i get the same error.
i really want to get off this crappy rom that Telstra provides with the phone, so any help is greatly appreciated.
many thanks
pic attatched of error.
Use ODIN to flash a stock ICS or GB ROM and then re-root and add cwm and try again
the issue you face is because your version is the GT-N7000B and the build.prop is for the GT-N7000 so its failing because it believes the ROM is for a different device.
if the product codes do not match up in the build.prop it will fail - this applies to all devices and all ROMs.
you could also open the .zip and find the build.prop and change all of them, But its a pain in the ass !

Because these are for the N7000 if i flash a stock ICS rom on my N7000B what will happen?
http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/?page=8
Put your details in there and it will find you a stock ROM. Ive seen threads where N7000B users have flashed N7000 ROMs without any issues.
EDIT: You CAN use any GT-N7000 firmware !
Awesome! I am downloading the Gingerbread Australian Rom as we speak for the N7000. if i flash it with odin, root it, and then install CWM would it work with installing custom roms such as paranoid android etc?
Yes because the Stock firmware will remove the 'B' and you will have no more install errors
Be sure to follow the instructions to the letter !! and make a nandroid before commencing.

so, i will flash it with Odin on PC correct? does it require i wipe everything off the phone?
sorry for the questions i am a noob lol
you can wipe before or after it makes no difference so long as your on GB.
Dont ever wipe on ICS unless your on a safe kernel.
But do do a wipe as it will start you off on a fresh clean install

Im on Eclair, but I dont want it anymore, I want to have the new Jelly bean, but cant have acess to root, neither rom manager neither CWM, so cant install nothing by that way... as I tried severals updated.zip and no one can work...
I was thinking, only if I flashed some ROM through ODIN3, like for example:
- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1326416 as that is possible to flash over odin, and then i can flash some ROM with Jelly Bean through Clockworkmod...
Is that the best way?
It would work if I flash that ROM using ODIN, on top of Eclair 2.1?
Need some help here ^^
EDIT: Just saw that on your sig and in your post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=11113557&postcount=1
If I do all those steps, can I install that Rom without any problems?
Even I haven´t root yet? =\

Yes, you need to use ODIN3 to Flash the ROM, since your goal is Jelly Bean, you need to be on Original Gingerbread First, to do that go here and select the Firmware according to your location http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1102881 ..Follow Flashing guide to the dot
Than go here and install a semaphore kernel, which will give you root and CWM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1112908
after that you need to visit the Jelly Bean Developers thread of your choosing and follow their guide to install Jelly Bean ( BUT be aware Jelly Bean is NOT fully Stable yet)
Darky's Resurrection ROM is for those who are having problems , yours is Just a Normal upgrade, so best use latest Original Firmware, First

Yes, you don't need root for flashing, kernel are flashed same way as flashing ROM's, put the kernel in PDA ( don't tick anything) and press start in odin

You should look under Europe, the latest is JW7 but the CSC is only one, so better use JW5, with Multi CSC
