No
had the same problem. After installing the official version (yes, despite china's firewall I managed to update it via the Market...), I got the error message "application not installed". Ofcourse the official version, which is also 2.0.0.47, does not support this phone... Interestingly, it doesn't bring up the option for video calling either.
link does not work. comes back with a google search result pointing to this page, rather than loading the actual link.
I am getting stuck at installation. When I click on install nothing happens.
I have Installation of non market application ticked in the settings.

HTC INCREDIBLE S DOES NOT SUPPORT YET VIDEO CALLING IN SKYPE!!!
"To enjoy 2-way video calling on your Android device, it must be running Android Version 2.3 and above with a front-facing camera. Supported handsets right now that allow video calling include the HTC Desire S, Sony Ericsson Xperia neo, Sony Ericsson Xperia pro and the Google Nexus S. We are sorry if your device currently does not support video for the Skype for Android app. But, rest assured, we plan to roll out support for more Android handsets very soon."
Those who are having problems with the link... did you replace the hxxp: with the proper letters? The link worked fine as of July 4th.
I installed this patched Skype v2.0.0.47 without any problem. I haven't made any calls yet, though. I just ran the application, signed in, and then closed it after exploring it for a bit.
I am running the Skype videocall successfully on my IS.
Make sure u uninstall any existing Skype app before installing the patched one.

Works just fine
I'm using the HTC Incredible 2, not the S - but I can't imagine the hardware required to use Skype is that different between the two. Have you actually successfully made a video call? All attempts at any version resulted in a Force Close when trying to bring up video in any way.
crashes
Makes calls and sends IM's, but it force closes whenever a video initiation is attempted.

I presume this is the same that was posted on the XDA portal front page awhile back by pulser?

Video call works on my Incr S. Tested video call with Skype on a PC and on my wifey's iPhone 4. The only minor gripe I have is that it's locked in landscape mode. Video quality seems a lot better than Tango...
For all that have it working -
What version of android are you on?
If Gingerbread, is it 2.3.4, or 2.3.3?

Anyone in the know care to look at the leaked skype apk to get it to work on the galaxy tab?
Installation currently fails and it seems to only work on HTC phones but there must be a way to get it to work on the tab right?
some guys are looking to modify the leaked apk to be able to use it on other devices, but there is nothing working yet.
Here is the xda thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1031944
I think someone needs to make something like this a sticky I answered 4 threads in the past week with people asking this question.
Well i saw a chery tab brand of china and its using android os. And it has a skype application with video call.

Are you using it? And is it version 1.0.0.983 like on the market? ppl say that video calls are not working.
Does anyone here have a fixed apk?
Does the Galaxy come with a version of Swype preinstalled??
If not then it would be considered as warez and therefore should not be posted here.
Skype. & not swype
Still Skype can be found at the market. & is working

In some countries people cannot find Skype on the Market. I'm not 100% sure but there are probably limitations... Anyway, it is easy to workaround them using MarketEnabler.

will this version is sama as the market version? cus when i using my existing skype, the front camera will be freeze after a few second ... was this is because of skype compatibility issue or the Gtab software issue ? appreciate someone can help ... thanks.
Skype doesnt support video on the Galaxy tab because they claim Froyo doesnt give access to the front camera. This is BS though, because there are many other apps that do.
Try Clearsea. Works great and there is a PC client too.

I totally agree with you. A hacked version of skype works well with FFC though rotation still needs to be worked on: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1153285
I am looking for a Rom that support recording audio calls. I remember looking at some roms a while back on here and it had a screen capture of the call screen and it showed a record button. I have tried searching but there are so many roms it's hard to find what I'm looking for, so I figured asking people that keep better on tabs on certain roms will already know which one supports it
That feature is not ROM dependent. There are apps to record calls, but since this varies in legality from state to state they are hard to find. In CA both parties must be informed of the recording or it is illegal. Did you look in the Themes and Apps forum?
I know you can use apps and such, but the closet thing I ever found was stuff like it would only record both sides of the conversation if you had speaker phone turned on. That's why I was looking for the rom, it appeared to be nicely integrated and didn't require speakerphone to be in use to record. I am also aware of the laws regarding call recording. I do computer repair and it'd be nice to record directions or symptons instead of trying to quickly jot them down.
It was a feature included in the phoenix rom. Not sure what other ones. I know that it only works on froyo roms.

It does. works great.
Some of the 2.2.1 based roms have this feature. Check the logs. There isnt one with it for 2.3.3+ yet so you will need to go with Froyo if you want it built into the rom
As stated previously, the Firefly 3.0 ROM (a fantastic Rom) had it. If you look in the forum you can find that particular file
Sent from my SGH-I897 using XDA App
Continuum v4 also had it. Its a great rom too. I used the call recording all the time, worked well. The apps that record calls don't work very well
Sent from my GT-I9000 using Tapatalk
Yes, Continuum 4 does have it but if you go with continuum, go with version 4.1. It also has call recording but it has updated modem and some other great apps included. But you can't flash 4.1 from stock. I am on 4.1 and plan to stay on it for a while.
most of the 2.2 and the 2.2.1 roms have it...head over to darky roms website to check out the call recording apk...
Does anyone know how to modify the OS to report that the phones one of the very poor selection the lazy people at skype could be bothered to make it work with?
Or would it require a mod to the app itself (same question who knows how to do this?)
Thanks in advance
Maybe modifying the build.prop? Just a guess!

The problem is that the contained native code .so's seem to contain NEON instructions which the Tegra 2 can't execute.

If everyone took that attitude, XDA forums and the like wouldn't exist because we'd all be sat waiting for HTC / LG / Skype etc to update software...
These forums exist because the developer community can usually make things work better than the software vendors or before the software vendors.
This has already been hacked to work on the Galaxy S and S2.......

Hi all,
I just wanted to ask you about the video call capability of Optimus Black. As I know Android got embedded Video Call capability with GTalk via version 2.3.4. But as I know Optimus Black runs Froyo.
So, I own a Galaxy S2, and I want to buy a phone for my gf, only for video chat. So any of you tried; Tango, new version of Skype or Fring. Does video calling works OK?
Thanks.
i have try with skype and it's still not supported yet,,,Optimus black will be supported on skype as OPTUS have release a contract version of OB Skype Edition.just need to wait for a new version of skype to be released tho..^^
I've try many "video call" apps.
None of them are compatible with the front camera
The only app that supports p970 front camera is stock camera app
Sent from my LG-P970 using Tapatalk
As mentioned above so far no video chat app suports front cam on the P970, but fring works pretty good even if you need to have a mirror to see the person you are talking to.
Hopefully 2.3 is just around the corner.

I'm working on skype mod HERE that supports many froyo FFCs. My goal is to make most froyo FFCs usable for video chatting.
With the help of owners, I was able to add the LG Optimus 3D in the list of supported devices. If you want to help me add support for LGOB, please send me these files:
all of /system/framework/ files
/system/app/ArcCamera.odex (or .apk in case of deodexed system)
/system/app/Camera.odex (or .apk in case of deodexed system)
And I also need you as testers to verify in case I have something to test.
You can email your download link at [email protected]
With the mod droidx is working on I have video call working!!!!! Back cam only so far but works non the less.
He is working hard to enable the front cam as well

Noticed a problem with status. When you come out through the exit and back to run the program does not go online while in the program itself says that online. And another problem with the camera. Sometimes it stops working and error associated with the SMS/MMS

The delay for the skype to become fully online is normal. I haven't found out or looked why but I'm thinking that delay is the time for it to discover online contacts and broadcasting itself to others.
With the other problem (SMS/MMS), can you describe it more? It's my first time to hear that problem (being assiciated with SMS).
so far it is the best skype mod i've every tried, but i cant use none of the cameras (none of them works.. still all black)
