I have a Samsung Captivate and I accidentally deleted the sd (at least that is what i think it was called) folder. How do I get it back? If I just create a new folder that says 'sd' will it still save things onto my internal sd card?
my /sd/ folder is empty at least looking at it from the OI file manager on the phone
I think mine was as well but I want to put music on my phone and i want it to go on the internal sd. I tried seeing if the files would go directly on the sd so i put a few music files in a folder i created but when i checked my task manager the internal memory storage changed, not the internal sd storage.

It depends what OS you are running.
2.1 used /sdcard for internal and /sdcard/sd for external
2.2 moved these directories under /mnt but left the old directories empty

Does anybody know what to do if the sd folder is deleted?
I noticed I had an 'sd' folder and an 'external_sd' folder. The sd folder was blank, so I deleted it after I viewed it on my pc - there was nothing in it. It didn't seem to be needed. But now I can't view certain files on my phone only. I can view them on my laptop via USB connection using Windows Explorer.
To attempt to find this folder on my phone, that I CAN see on my laptop using Windows Explorer, I created a txt file in that folder (that I can't find on my phone), naming it 'sdmissing.txt'. I searched everywhere on my phone, even from root directory, trying to find this file and couldn't. Yet after connecting to my laptop via USB, I can see it. What can I do??
Thanks in advance for any help!

backup important data and apps with tibu or any other apps in the market and perform factory reset with your phone it should bring you back to where you are.

Turn off and on ur phone to see if it works for you or not. I found that sd is a hidden folder and its blank. When I flash custom roms, I do it without going to stock. But, I do delete Android, data, sd and some other folders, that I know will be automatically created after the reboot/flash. When I go to cwm recovery to install rom from zip, I do see the Android folder and sd folder showing up there. Don't panic. Just do normal shutdown and restart. If that doesn't fix, reflash the custom rom if you are using one.

Can someone tell me how to move files to the internal memory without connecting to pc.
when i try doing it wth file manager it says file could not be moved
i cant pay for any app right now, need something free
notenoughspace is one app that can do it but i again i cant pay for it right now. If anyone has it plz post the apk.
What ROM do you use? Astro File Manager works fine with Nokie Froyo and rooted stock.
P.S. Are you aware that if you want to store files in eMMC, you should place them in /media folder, not in /,/system etc.?
I am using cm7 right now, i try to place files in my files and it fails
Edit: it working now, but only copy and paste, when i use move, it fails but thats not a problem anyway.
i think the place you are trying to put the files is mounted as read only. Try putting files in the /media/ folder using astro or esf
Root Explorer is best file/rights manager...
Good question. Once you have Root Explorer working, try emailing the files to your self then install to SD Card or eMMC.
Good luck m8.
I use Dropbox to port files to my Nook, Gtab, and Evo phone. Just open Dropbox and download the file on your device. Dropbox puts it on your SD card in the "Dropbox" directory. Then you just use Root Explorer to move and paste from there to your emmc memory folders.
Hi,
I have a question regarding media storage location of Whatsapp - I don't necessarily expect a solution but would like to at least verify the behaviour on other phones.
My old android device (Sony Ericsson SK17i) saved the Whatsapp media files to the external SDCard.
I bought a S3 mini this week and noticed a difference: Whatsapp media files are not stored on external SDCard anymore, but on the internal storage. I guess that this comes from the internal storage being presented as SDCard0, so maybe Whatsapp thinks that this is in fact the external SD-Card.
Can somebody with S3 mini check how this behaves with his phone? Within Whatsapp I didn't find a way to configure this, can anyone think of a solution to that?
Many thanks in advance.

mine saved on phone internal too....and i'am afraid there's no setting from within whatsapp to store in external sd card....however you can reduce space by using directory bind....search around and you will find it.....directory bind or link2sd should do it....

ok, thanks for double-checking, I was afraid so. I don't want to link the whole app to sd card, but directory bind sounds like a very good idea, I haven't thought of that.
FolderMount (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2192122) did the trick. Thanks!

How do you managed to make the default Image preview program to work properly?
I marked the "Media verification" checkbox on the folder mount configuration so that de SD Card folder wouldn't appear on the image preview program, but now I only can see some black thumbs with no image "attached" that points to internal memory.
Did any of this happened to you? Or something similar with the images or how you see them?
in my S4
whenever i open this app , notifications comes saying :
checking for root ......
exit
and nothing happens !

This seems like a solution to my problem- moved my whatsapp media folder using the manual settings in Gl to SD, but it seems wonky. I took a picture of myself and sent it to someone, and it worked fine. Image is stored in my "sent" folder on the card, which also shows up in internal if I browse there with an explorer. I click on the image in whatsapp, it becomes full screen.
But when someone sends ME an image, it seems to never download. I see the thumbnail, I click it, and then it says that the media is not found on the SD card.
Sure enough, I browsed the folder in explorer (hooked up to my computer as PTP, browsing in windows 7) and the file isn't there. Only the one that I originated. I tried to create a file there, and it actually timed out on me and said device wasn't available. So it seems to sometimes work but not other times? How strange!

it seems you have root permission problem. you may try to fix permission via custom recovery. GL to SD is working fine and i'm able to download additional data on ext SD.

Ah, that might have been it.
In the mean time I gave up, removed it and went with foldermount, linked above. Works just fine out the door, cleaner UI too.
Move WhatsApp Media To External SD Card
This App automatically redirects WhatsApp media to the External SD Card in order to save memory: I cannot post the link, but you can search Nicola Rosada On Play Store and download Photo & File Redirect.

I got foldermount and used it to mount data/obb folders from some apps to my ext SD card. But this is what i get for whatsapp: The data and obb options are greyed out so i cant select them and it says there is no data to begin with (0 B). How did you do it? Thanks
Thanks for saving me to ask this question. My son has a SG Grand Prime SM-G530H and is facing the same problem.

Got the same Issue - can send Images and theyll get stored on SD via Foldermount, but when i receive images, just got the blurry thumbnail and after i downloaded the image i got that "Media is not found on the SD card" issue.
Anyone knows what i did wrong?
I'm assuming some of you here know My Color Screen. Some of the posters there they post their own designed Android home/lock screens and they provide some files like uccw unzip files for those who want to make the same home screen. These files are downloaded on a computer and are put on the phone's SD card. But what about the HTC One, it has no SD card so I'd like to know where do I put these files?

Thank you for replying. So how do I put these files so that they show up on my phone? Do I connect the HTC One to my computer and just transfer them or do I use the HTC Transfer Tool app?
Just transfer them through Windows Explorer as you would any other files

I'm using a Mac. Can't I just connect my phone to my MacBook and copy the files to the phone's internal SD?
By the way, I haven't yet received the device to test it out. I'd like to know in advance.
If it installs the drivers, you can use Finder (I think). Alternally, you can just download the files on your phone and they'll show up in the 'download' folder. You can then move them using a file manager.
EDIT: NVM, found an answer here. You need Google Android File Transfer.
Thank you. Seems like this is exactly what I need.
Out of 25.* GB of storage I have, 3gb Using the storage tool on my phone, it shows that 20gb is listed under "other"... this has happened before and I used directory scan in ES file explorer, and found it was some games cache doing it, but I can not figure out how to do a root scan with ES..
I have done the SD card analyst and it only found one file over a gig and it was my ONE TWRP backup..

Why you are worried apps store there files in sdcard. They are important if you wipe files using any cleaner it is possible that some of your apps will not work.

Other files are which are not stored in the default folders. You know our phone makes some default folders like- DCIM, MUSIC, ANDROID, WALLPAPERS. Apart from these folders everything is considered as other files. Move your music and video files to the default than you will be seeing decrement in other files. Try it I am sure about it.

With ES in root-enabled mode, can you check /data/media/ folder
reason:
in 4.1.2 /sdcard = /data/media/
in 4.2.2+ /sdcard = /data/media/0/
so you may have "leftovers" (needed or unneeded) in /data/media/ which didnt get moved to /data/media/0/
(and these won't show up on your PC, only with a root-enabled file explorer)
Here is mine:
the 0 folder is your sdcard/internal storage, so dont mess with that,
the others are pretty much empty
you should check if you have any large folders in there (except 0), a good example would be CWM backups, which are stored in /data/media/clockworkmod/backup/
or possibly other files that weren't moved to 0 (your sdcard)
