What is your favourite Apps on the Xoom - Xoom Themes and Apps

I know everybody probably has the following
Advanced Task Manager
Skype
Dolphin/Opera/Miren Browser
But what other little "gems" have you found on the net that now it would be hard to live without.
Free Apps
Freenote What a beauty! Taking meeting notes etc in freehand or Kboard.
Store audio or pictures from the camera straight into a note. mail etc
3CX Sip Phone: Free, Simple and it works!
Dual File Manager: Uppacks Zip files on the fly and intuitive to use.
QuickPic: Much better than gallery able to Hide the directories you don't want to include.
MoboPlayer: Seem to play all the video files I have (WMF, AVI,etc etc)
Wifinder: Quick and easy Wifi control
Swiss Arny Knife: (all the common helpfull stuff in one package) especially the ruler!
Paid Apps
Roadsync: (If you have to interface into outlook, it just works)
Documents to Go: Seems to handle most of the microsoft virus (sorry office) files.
Beautiful Widgets: (Worth the money if your a HTC Sense fan)

Root explorer/total commander and titanium backup are must have apps!

plume, friend me, CNBC, news pres, file manager hd, great battles, talk, pulse, a currency, gamefly, qello, news360, the daily habit there's more....

I didn't ask what was your favourite app "Optimized For Honeycomb" List (Includes games)"
I asked what was your favourite app. Not all apps are optimised and work that well on Xoom. I think of all the apps I mentioned only 5 were on your "Optimised" list
Is this how you get your post count so high?
I know I am a "newbie" on here and thanks for the warm welcome "Senior Member!"
Maybe you should read the thread before jumping down my throat.
Your apology accepted!

Seriously, dude, buzz off. Is that how you increase your post count? Nobody gives a rat's ass about newbies like you. And it IS a redundant thread. Thus, you can go frack yourself.

We are seriously in need of the ban hammer. People need to respect around here.
By the way OP download the Amazon app store and get Fieldrunners. That's my favorite app so far.

Most people here DO NOT have Advanced Task Manager because, well, this is Android. No task killers needed. Of course in certain situations they can be useful, but not just for killing apps to free up memory.

My fav apps on my Xoom (different from my phone) are Newsr, News360, Friend Me, Weather Bug and Plume.

I really like News 360. Great app. Plume is awesome too.

Last I checked this isn't StackOverflow. IMO, the OP is right in this case, and what the hell is the harm if he isn't? This thread is in the right place, and more content can help people find things by chance.
I don't always reply to pseudo-trolls, but when I do, its because you need to get your head out of your ass.

For no particular reason other than general interest and they work well on the Xoom:-
1Tap Cleaner
Dropbox
Electrum Drum Machine Sampler
F1 News
File manager HD
Flightboard
Flightradar24 pro
FlightTrack Pro
Google Sky Map
HDR.Camera
Marine Traffic
Navionics UK
News 360
Satellite AR

Tiny Flashlight

Android market

There should be a way to filter content like the porn girls even though it don't show nothing I don't my kids to have the option of seeing it on the market if this is the wrong section mods please edit

That I know of there isn't anything provided by Google. Would be nice if they implemented some of the parental controls that Apple has on their iPhone OS.
I'm sure there will be much better sorting and filtering once the web browser version of the Market launches.
You would think they would have a filter even if it was just a app come on Google. Internet should be a tool but not one to exploit girls or guys

For now, you could try appbrain... it allows filters...
There should be a filter, I haven't seen the apps myself. But depending on how graphic they are they might not even be allowed on the market

lol YES
Easy fix. Get an iPhone.
Seriously, it is annoying.
Seems to me the more apps in the market the happier Google are. They don't seem to give a rats if they are absolute junk like many of them. They just want the app count up asap so they can brag about the growth. The [apps>Just in] option should be renamed [apps>Junk]. I do not think Googles approach is particulary fair on developers of genuine apps which drown in the mire of rubbish.
I mentioned in another thread how surprised I am the Top Paid app in the productivity section of the android market can only appeal to such a small portion of users. Seems to me the Market is not really gaining genuine momentum, if thats the best it can do. It is just filling up with fluff.
At least as craigacgomez says, Appbrain does a half decent job of hiding the rubbish.
The thing that annoys me most about the Android Market is that they won't give access to paid apps in many countries.
Why on earth would they block paid apps in some countries is just beyond me. I have a credit card, I want to pay for the apps, I want to spend money, so pleaseeee let me spend Google!!!
Am I way out of line for thinking that a kid who is old enough to carry a $600 phone should also be old enough to know a little bit about the world? I see more provocative images on billboards on the side of the interstate and ads on the side of Facebook for crying out loud.

No I think that is a fair comment.
But if I understand correctly the OP was actually asking for a way to filter content. His pet hate is porn. Others are OK with the porn but want to filter the Spam apps. So to my mind user configurable filtering of the market would be a good thing.

a clean up is NEEDED

I read that Google is cleaning up the Android Market. I have yet to see this. !
Why don't they just update the market app to allow blocking of certain developers and their crap apps..
For example free4android and their 146 crap games, Susan xin and her 40 different versions of the same "funny pictures" app, Andy.Li who I'm pretty sure is also aka Susan xin, Puzzle and their 267 different apps of wallpaper puzzles...which the market is LOADED with along with memory games. Instead of a "flag as offensive", just let us block them. You can delete them but they'll just make another gmail name and reflood the market again.
For once i'd like to check the Just-In and not thumb scroll endlessly through crap apps from these spam like developers.
It is annoying, but I really don't care. I usually just search or look at top apps/games.
Let's not turn it into a locked down app-store.
They could let users apply a filter to their market app to filter out the offending devs I suppose. ie-go to one of offending devs pages in marketplace and click "add dev to block-filter" or something similar. I'd guess I might filter a few out if I had the option.
I thought this was about our forums at first and was excited!

Local bible app?

Hey guys -
I was wondering is there a bible app that does not use the internet. It is a WIFI only Xoom and my church does not have an open WIFI.
All the ones I have tried from the market are not formatted for the tablet, and also use an internet connection.
Thanks.
I use Bible by Youversion.
While you're on WiFi, just download the version you use to your XOOM so you can use it anywhere.
You could also use www.acrobible.com

I use the NIV Bible from Tecarta. It works well on the tablet and has good navigation, but it crashes occasionally. The Bible from YouVersion is also good, as mentioned above, but the navigation is not as user friendly.
I use tecarta nasb. Works perfectly for me but it does cost money

Thanks guys..
I have NewVersion I just need to download it directly for offline access. I never knew that.
I cannot log in though, for some reason it does not allow me to input any information for log in. It's just blank. Can some one confirm they are able to log into the software?
Olivetree has a program called Biblereader that is the Cadillac of Bible programs on mobile platforms. The program itself is free, but the various versions cost money. The versions are portable to other mobile platforms, and there are tons of additional resources that are supported in program. The current android version is one major revision behind iOS, but they are working on releasing a new one soon.
All in all, it is one of the best study tools out there on any platform. Check it out.

Will do, I am running into issues with YouVersion.
I use the Barnes & Noble Nook app, and you can get any version of the bible, (N.I.V., King James. Etc...) for about a buck. Has chapters, works off-line, can highlight, annotate, bookmark, lookup words) even does the little page flip like on the iPad, love it.

A little off topic
I've been trying to get the people at globible.com to add the android tablet platform. Very cool Bible app and the more people requesting it the more likely they will push development.
I am not a huge Olive Tree fan but it if probably the best offline Bible. I read that they recently updated the reader so I should give it another try. I have in my Kindle app, too, but find the YouVersion app has the best search feature.
I love youVersions bible. Tons of translations. I bounce around KJV and NIV during study, sometimes KJV is a little over my head.
If you go into the list of translations there is a green button on the right to download to the device locally.
I attend a pretty old fashioned baptist church, and get some pretty interesting looks from the older folks when I break out the tab
Glad to see so many other Christians on here as well, it's exciting.
Edit:
I got a little excited and didn't read the whole thread. But I saw one or two people say something about youVersion and logging in.
Even though it doesn't show your email or passwords in the field, they are in fact being input. Just be careful and you should be able to login without issue. It took me 2 or 3 tries to get the UN and PW right.

Sorry to dig up an old thread, but I'm working on a Honeycomb optimized bible and note taking app and I could use testers and people to bounce ideas off of.
I love youversion on my phone, but I can't stand it on my tablet. So I figured this would be a cool way to learn a bit about Fragments and just expand my knowledge in general.
Thread is here. I'd love any feedback.
I checked it out!
Thanks!
"ESV Bible" (free) and "LiveBible" (also free) support offline viewing. While offline is the default for ESV, you will need to download the texts for LiveBible first.

Google Now vs Siri, your opinion

Hello, I recently switched from ios to android, google disadvantage now see that (in my opinion) do not fulfill specific functions, we changed the English but still not correctly answer general types: how's the weather today nearby restaurants etc.. What is your opinion about google now?
I always think that google now is in development, cuz first of all is the voice engine its pretty "mechanical".That's all
You will be told soon comparison threads are not allowed.. Prepare for thread closure..
Let's put it this way:
Siri:
"What's the weather like today?" "Are you sure you want to delete all contacts?" "No! No! No! I didn't ask you to do that!" "Delete Confirmed."
Click to collapse
Google Now:
Open the app
Look at the weather card. (Usually the first thing you see when you go in the app)

Click to collapse
Google now has handy "cards" for you to view wherever you are. Like what restraunts are nearby, Photo locations, Traffic information, ETA to Home/Work etc.
You don't need to ask it anything most of the time, although you can ask simple questions such as "How old is (Insert famous person here)" or "How tall is (Insert Famous Person here)" or "When was (Insert building/landmark here) built?" and it'll often tell you the answer
What I've heard from people is if you live in the US and speak US english, like me, it's by far better than anything else out there. If you don't live here / don't speak US english, it's not that great. I've never tried any other language or country so I can't tell, but for me, Google now is miles ahead of siri. Cortana is actually pretty good though.
Thanks for the opinions guys, one more question, I have to search the motor google.us or have active locations to benefit from all functions of the application? thanks

Google search is normally set to your local one (I.e if you are in the US, you'll be automatically searching with the US one)
You need to have active location (GPS) to get the best benefit from all the function.
It needs to know where you are so it can show those cards with information relevant to your current location but hey, at least you don't have to keep on asking it questions!

Siri feels like an assistant.I cant say the same for google now.Its my personal opinion
Sent from my HTC One using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
To be honest I don't see much of a difference in what they do, besides their names and companies. After all, Google is my favorite search engine and database, and I definitely prefer Google Maps over Apple's, so Google Now does a pretty awesome job for me. Siri/Google Now would not really affect my purchasing decision in any case.
I really like the functions of Google Now. It's more helpful and able to provide information when I need it. However, to enable the full functionality of Google Now means Google Service Framework is running all the time and producing a huge amount of wakelocks... Which means a lot of battery drainage.
So I would say neither one of these meets my expectation...Hope GSF could get better
I think Google Now "understands" your requests better, but maybe it is microphone related... I dont know anybody using any of these services because it affords more time getting what you want.
i prefer google now. looks a lot cleaner and more accurate imo.
Although I have never used an iPhone except for demo kiosks, I hear nothing but terrible things. Can't remember who did it but there was a Youtube video comparing the two when they came out. Siri for some reason kept wanting to talk about horses.

yah i like google now
I don't like any of the Google Apps included Google Now because it's waisting all your RAM memory!
And it stays running in the background.
I have only used S-Voice when i was on stock but i'm now on custom rom and now i'm don't using a siri anymore.
Siri Apps are defenitly better then any other !
I have had the iphone 4s firmware updates and enjoy siri, was an addition more than useless over to the friends. I have now and s-voice s4 is something less mechanical than siri in the sense of the daily use
rivalstorm v.1 with Tamirda's mod
I know this is very unscientific, but whenever I meet someone who uses an iphone, I ask if they use siri. Most don't. Not everyone uses google voice search either, but it seems like more do. Take from that what you will. As for me, I love google's voice search. It has rarely failed me.
I have to admit, Siri is fun. And many people just use it for entertainment purposes.
Google Now is mainly used for help and knowledge. And I use it everyday. Its a great way of doing tasks while you're a bit busy.
Defenitly Siri

Hi there! looking for your feedback!

Hi All!
I'm quite new android games developer. I'm looking for developers community feedback on my first "serious" project.
So, as I'm keen on brain teasers I wanted to create some puzzle game. I've started my research and found out one of old style games called Freeways. So I thoutght that I can improve it from design and car behaviour perspective.
For last couple of weeks I have few thousands of downloads but very few feedback!
And I don't know should I upgrade it further or there is no chance to find my audience....
I've spent like 1 year to make it and absolutly dissapointed that there is now feedback from players. Should I start another project? Another 1 year?
Please advise... Thank you in advance!
Link to my game is here:
Motorways mind logic puzzles - Apps on Google Play
Stack the states in brain teaser IQ puzzle. Memory & thinking car traffic maze.

WYSIWYG.
Feedback, yes well here you go...
Looks like a data miner to me
No reason to know my precise location or browser history, share with 3rd parties or for me not to have the option to delete collected data.
I wouldn't even install it... based on that alone.
The games I have are all firewall blocked
My favorite apps have zero permissions and never request internet service. They are also some of the best.
Hi Blackhawk! That's a feedback already. This is set up of ads mediation I'm using. Probably it stops other users aswell. Probably I need to find another mediator

I know you want sponsorship and to generate revenue. I can understand that. It's a tough business. Poweramp has a good business model and is one of my few gladly paid for apps. A lot of bang for the buck and nothing comes close to it for a stand alone music player.
Unfortunately from a user prospective that degree of data mining is potentially harmful. Personally I won't tolerate it... no app is worth that. All social media and shopping apps are banned from my devices. Done that for a decade now. One of the first things I targeted when I started using Androids.
