My sister's captivate has decided not to charge anymore. Nothing was updated on the phone it just will not charge. The phone is about 6 months old. When I try and charge with a USB cable on the computer I got nothing. When I use a wall charger same thing. I can't even get into recovery mode. Holding down the vol button and power does nothing. I've taken the battery out and the sim and it still will not charge. Every once and a while I can get it to briefly shown on the screen what looks like a circle with stars around it rotating then it shuts off. Does this indicate that the battery is bad or something else? I also tried the Odin 1 click thing but it didn't do anything. HELP HELP!!
Did you use the same usb to charge it with pc and wall charger? If so have you tried a different usb.

Yes I've tried 2 different chargers, none work...
May just have a bad battery, do you have another captivate battery to test in the phone?
Have you tried getting the phone in to Download mode? This thread has a Eclair Odin with the different key combos to get in to Down load mode.
Stock Eclair Odin
Yeah I've tried all of Odin's key combo things..
Also you might want to look in to making or buying a jig if the key combos do not work. They are relatively cheap to buy but a quick easy guide to making one is here.
Layman Jig
If you didn't do anything to the phone and it just stop working, you might look in to att see if they replace it. If its under a year samsung's warranty might cover it
If you go to att they should let you try out with a different battery just head over to the service center and hopefully your not running a custom rom. Try a different battery nonetheless.

You could try a different battery or try an external battery charger, if that charges the battery just fine then it's the usb port on the phone and not the battery. In any case both issues should be covered under warranty, they will either give a new battery or replace the whole phone if it's the port.

My phone is completely dead or bricked. Will not turn on at all, wont go into download mode. No led when plugged into charger. Its not a charger issue because i tried 2 different chargers and usb into computer. Android character with shovel came on for a little bit and turned off before it went completely dead. Any help?
I tried doing this: Pull out battery, start odin, plug in phone, hold volume buttons while putting in battery, but still no go.
Could it be a battery issue? Because no led when plugged in.
Try this
Bat, sim, ext sd out
Odin opened
Bat in
Hold vol up and down
Plug usb in
Or try a jig
which odin should i use? Im using Odin3 v1.3, is that ok?
Jig sounds like your only option at this point.
You can find direction here:

Good Luck
I had the same exact problem. Try pulling out the battery and leaving it out for a minute. Sounds like voodoo but once I put the battery back in and tried to go into download mode it worked.

At&t or rogers?
Build number, located under battery, mine is 1008?
AT&T Build number is 1012
I tried the resistor trick but no go. Help?
1) Are you getting any signs of life at all when you try to turn it on?
2) What were you doing that caused it to brick?
No, no sign of life at all when trying to turn it on. Led dont come on when charger is plugged in, tried 2 different chargers so its not a charger issue.
could be a dead battery issue, see if you can buy a charger and try that? or you might as well as just turn your phone in.
I know this is a longshot, but did you try plugging the chargers into a different plug?
Mine was bricked just this morning i jig it but use the micro usb fix with it its more simple

Ok I got it up and into download mode, but Odin wont recognize the phone, it wont connect.
Ok, WTF? I've got the same issue. Phone worked last night fine, plugged it into my computer to charge (it was at 25ish% battery and it was late) and went to bed. When I picked it up today it won't turn on. At all. It won't acknowledge a USB being connected in any way.
I did not attempt to flash, and I've been charging my phone in this manner every day for months. The *only* difference is that I forgot to grab it this morning on the way out the door, so instead of being taken off the charger at 7am it was taken off at 3pm. I'm running Cognition 2.38 and have been for a while. My computer's protected by a surge protector and it wasn't turned off or crash while I was plugged in.
When I plug it into the computer via USB I have zero response. I tried the same with my car charger and a wall charger, also with nothing.
I was flashing the latest iceandfire rom, did a reboot and the Moto logo came up but it never booted. Holding the power button didn't do anything so I pulled the battery. Now there's nothing. The LCD never comes on, can't get into recovery or boot loader. No charging light, nothing...
This has happened to me before and I had it sent back to Motorola. They were able to reflash the phone, I know because I got the same phone back. How they managed to flash it without it powering up is a mystery to me but I know it's possible. Has anyone managed to do this? I would send it back to Moto again but this time, it's out of warranty.
Did you charge with USB cable? I had this once where USB charge completely failed. I just had to use my car charger and that fired the phone back up.
I had this happen to me also...use a Motorola brand (no copies) wall or car charger and leave it plugged in. My MS does this when it gets really close to 0% charged...

I don't think the battery is dead, it was full and I was plugged in while I did the flash. The charge light flicks on and then goes out when I plug any cable in but I'll give it a shot with the moto charger when I get home.
yeah, the phone's bricked... using all factory chargers and cables, it still doesn't power up.
I give up... tried all night to get it to the boot loader. I guess I'll be selling this thing for parts and use this iphone4 I got through Fido retentions until I figure out my next phone
Before you throw it away:
Try getting another (full) battery or another Milestone (to charge it), or something like this: (I am not allowed to post a link, so google: UNIVERSAL BATTERY CHARGER, select the first video in results).... charge it, then re-insert the battery and try to power on device holding d-pad UP + pressing power button.... it should bring you to bootloader mode, then connect usb cable and use RSDLITE to flash the appropriate SBF for your device and region..... and for ROMS (SBFs) google: milestone sbf, select the first link in results.... hope it helped... cheers....
Does the "McGiver" jumpstart thing using a usb cable with the device end cut and keeping some of the wires connected to the device in the battery compartment work on Milestone? I know a friend that could "unbrick" his Defy using this method....
Do you have a link? I remember reading this somewhere as well. It's worth a shot, not like the thing can be more dead. I still don't think it's the battery tho, it was full when I performed the flash.
Nevermind.... I found it, it didn't work... lol... oh well..
Sometimes the batteries memory will glitch
Not the battery, it was full when I did the flash and I tried jumping the battery terminals with a USB cable. It was good while it lasted but I already picked up a BNIB Captivate for $300 off Craigslist.
Anyone know what a Milestone sold for parts would be worth? It's about a year old and I would say the condition is 8.5-9.0/10

Before you sell it, take out the battery, SIM card and memory card, then leave it for AT LEAST 5 days. Then try again.
I have a similar problem with my milestone, at first I thought it was dead, then after a week I tried again (just on the off chance) and was able to get into the bootloader menu and reflash it.
There is something inside the Milestone that holds charge for several days, and pulling the battery for at least 5 days seems to clear it. This has happened 3 times with mine, and each time I was able to get it started again.
This may not work for you, it depends on exactly whats wrong with yours, but its worth a try.
there is a post from a guy looking for the motherboard... u might want to see that... sorry for ur device
so yesterday i pulled my phone out of my pocket and it had shut off, i held down the power button and nothing? so i tried pulling the batt, going into recovery, download mode, my computer doesnt even make a noise when i plug it in! no battery charging screen.. nothin! even tried a different battery.
it appears that its dead... went to the at&t store and they want me to extend my contract for 2 years and buy a phone. not sure i want to stay with at&t, i think they suck! not crazy about the deal they offered me..
anyone have any tips or tricks i can try to get the phone to come back to life, any similar experiences?
i read about a power button issue, but i think im worse off than that, my pc doesnt even see it. if it were just the button i cant imagine that would affect the charging?
anyone got a captivate they want to sell? lol..
I had problem were mine wouldn't turn on and made a jig but had wrong prongs and made reboot mabey that help

tried changing the battery ? the jig usually works....jump starts cappy to life like crash cart does
I have an LG Revolution that will not enter emergency download mode, infact I can't even get the screen to turn on no matter what I do. What happened was the battery was alot less charged than I had thought during a restoration using LGNPST; and it seems that the battery died right in the middle of the restoration.
Ideas?
had this happen once, try leaving it wall charging for a while then plug it in via usb, while plugged in via usb after chargin remove and replace batt do hard reset with phone completely off (pow + vol down) lgnpst should start then.
That didn't work. The phone won't even charge.

You may have already tried but just in case try to enter emergency download mode by taking out the battery, then plug in usb to computer, then hold power and volume UP -- not down, and then while continuing to hold the buttons insert battery.

Tried it a million times.
Any luck yet? I'm curious how this turns out...
Anyway just a random thought I had... maybe you could take it in to a store and have them charge the battery for you. It might respond better with a full battery.
Just a total guess but you never know...

I've tried to charge the battery using a USB cable connected directly to the negative and positive on the battery, but I'm not quite sure if it charged the battery as the phone still doesn't respond. I'm going to take this phone and a hardbricked HTC Thunderbolt I've got into a Verizon store some time today or tomorrow. Thanks for the input.
Hey,
My Galaxy Note recently decided to stop charging. Whenever i plug the charger in it shows the "first white charging logo", the one you see before the green battery being filled up - after about half a sec the logo goes away only to return 5 seconds later.
I've tried to blow into the socket, and i've looked into it with a light to make sure nothing seems off, and everything looks perfectly fine. So far i have tried with 2 cables, one third party and the original one, no difference there. Both these cables work well with my Galaxy S2. Therefore i am willing to say for certain the problem is in the actual USB port, which i find weird because I've never mishandled it in any way.
Another thing is the battery gets warm after cycling like this for a few minutes. I tried to take the SGSII-battery and fire the Note up, by holding the battery in place according to the connectors, it fires up perfectly.
Do any of you have any experience with these kinds of issues?
I am currently running Paranoid Android Hybrid-ROM, I guess my only real option here would be to borrow a friends charged battery to flash back into a stock ROM and plead ignorance with the warranty claim. The phone is no older than 4 months. Does anyone know how thorough they are when placing an RMA on a phone?
Thanks, any input greatly appreciated.

No I did not infact, I'll give that a go and see if it helps. The problem is the SGSII battery doesnt fit completely, so i need to hold it by force at the pins, not sure ill pull that off while entering the recovery menu, but i'll try and see!
Edit: Tried it and it did not help unfortunately. At least i can use the SGSII-battery to safely get into menus etc.
Hell, might even be a broken battery?
I interpret the problem as "charging starts but battery refuses.." since the 1st logo keeps flashing. I read elsewhere that it might be a moisture-related problem aswell.
This I do not disregard completely because the phone has been lying near an open window, even though it's summer it cannot be fully ignored.
Either way, in the other thread they suggest putting the phone in rice (which soaks up moisture) for a few days to see if it helps. I even put one of those silica-anti-moisture-bags in there with the rice. Fingers crossed.
If nothing helps I think I'll just borrow a mates charged battery to flash back into stock, get rid of evidence etc - and place it in RMA.
Why don't you try a new Note battery or from another Note. If it fired up with a Gs2 battery perfectly then it must be your battery!

Leave your phone without any battery for about 30 min., this helped me when my phone was refusing to charge somtimes and was giving me discharging while on the charger, after i pulled the battwry for about 30-45 min it is perfectly charging now, btw iam on paranoid also and my phone doesnt charge when it is turned off, have to turn it on frist to charge

easy fix
hey i had a similar problem...was a bit frightened at first....ok connect your phone to your computer, if the computer recognizes then you cables and USB port are just fine.....this means that your phone has some firmware issues....ok here's the simple fix......allow your battery to die completely, then remove the battery from the phone for about 30 minutes......plug in the charger with the battery still out of the phone for 30seconds....now unplug your charger, reinstall your battery into the device and connect your charger again.....this may also work if your device refuses to power on....
