When I try to enable WIFI on my G1, for a couple of seconds it says: enabling WIFI, but then the phone becomes unresponsive (for about 1 second) and it reboots.
IIRC the problem started when I upgraded to the new CynogenMod ROM (4.1.99, but not sure), but it doesn't seem to be linked to the ROM.
I have always used CyanogenMod and update with every new version.
I tried to go back to the default HTC rom, but this doesn't solve the issue.
Does anyone know what may cause this or give me some tips on how to debug this?
I tried to run 'adb logcat' but it shows no info.
The exception browser in the CyanogenMod is also empty.
I don't know what else I could try.
Some extra info:
HSPL 10.95.3000
Radio 2.22.19.26I
CynogenMod ROM 4.1.99 is not the newest. Wipe, flash the htc image, flash cyan's newest and try wifi again.
No, I know, but I think that's when the problems started.
Latest version I installed was 4.2.13
I have installed the RC7 dreaimg.nbh now (used to root the G1), and when I try to enable WIFI on this rom, the phone doesn't reboot, it keeps working, but I get an error saying that WIFI could not be started.
I'm also having problems with wifi causing random reboots. For me it usually happens once a day if wifi is enabled and not at all if its disabled. Once the phone reboots, it hangs at the android screen and I have to do a battery pull to reset it. The problem also appears to be rom independent. Very weird, it has started happening in the last few weeks and I can't think of anything that has changed.

This is consistent with my experience as well. By far, the VAST majority of spontaneous reboots that have occurred on my phone have been when using wifi. Some of the older Cyan ROMs were really bad about this, but this continues to occur (although much less frequently) regardless of the ROM. I am presently using SuperD and have had one reboot in the past week.
This seems to happen most often when using the wifi heavily; for instance, I get a reboot probably every 3rd or 4th time when I'm doing my weekly podcast downloads. I don't remember any reboots when just surfing the web or downloading apps, though.
I have never had this happen when I was running cyan.
Are you wiping everything? Even EXT and dalvick?
Are you using any other apps when this is running and rebooting? Perhaps an offending app?
You should also open ADB and run ADB Logcat and try to replicate the issue and try to get a log submitted so the dev can help determine what is causing this issue.
I wiped everything and even without any apps installed, it just reboots.
adb logcat doesn't show a thing when the phone reboots, it just exits.

Darky's ROM v9.5 Installation
Followed instructions found here:
http://www.darkyrom.com/community/i...rkys-rom-on-2-2-2-2-1-i9000-i9000m-only.1041/
Setup Darky’s ROM Configurator
Flashed Dark_Core_1.0.tar with Odin 1.3
The Dark Core kernel does not work on my phone. Still Android system recovery (3e)
Revised ROM configurator to skip kernel as per alternative kernel method
Flashed speedmod-kernel-k13d-500hz.tar with Odin 1.3
I skipped backup step. Fresh phone so no reason to backup
Completed efsbackup
Through recovery, wipe data/factory reset completed
Through recovery, Darky’s ROM v9.5 flash completed
Selected reboot device through recovery screen
The rest of the story...
This is a list of every action I took after completing what seemed to be a flawless installation of the ROM.
Updated phone settings…. Language, time, wifi password, google password, etc.
Sync of gmail, google contacts, and google calendar completed without problems.

Opened home switcher app. Set homeswitcher to ‘Launcher’
Checked camera. Pressed home key and phone went back to original setup wizard screen, the one you see when you wipe your phone. I continued to press next to get through the sequence. Home screen switched back to ‘TwLauncher’ appeared to be the only change.
Pressed home button. Ticked box to set default. Selected ‘Launcher’
Tested camera again. I pressed the home key to get out of the app and the home switcher option came up again. Once again, selected to tick box to set the action as a default and picked ‘Launcher’.
Tested camera again. The home button properly went to the default this time.
The Places app does not launch.
Modified some settings inside Spare Parts app. Animation and wifi sleep policy.
Changed faster fix app to show China.
Opened Gmail app, rec’d ‘stopped unexpectedly’ message. Force close.
Tried to respond to an SMS message, rec’d ‘stopped unexpectedly’ message when I tapped the box to bring up the keyboard. Force close.
Opened Messaging app and tried again to respond to SMS message with same result.
Went to settings, modified input method to ‘Touch Input Chinese’, the device shutdown immediately.
Restarted phone. Unlocked screen and rec’d message ‘Process system is not responding’. It stayed there momentarily and then did a very quick reboot. I unlocked the screen and rec’d the same message.
I selected force close. The home screen was black with no wifi or phone service. Touching the applications button opened the list of app icons but the phone eventually the device did its very quick reboot.
I held the power button down for several seconds to force the device to turn off. I pressed the power button in hopes of it starting up normally… with the exception of having no phone service, it did seem to start normally.

Flashed stock ROM and returned to starting point noted at beginning of the post.
Please forgive the post above if you find it offensively long. I have spent the past week reading anything I can as it relates to Darky’s ROM and can’t find anything that seems to relate to the problems I am finding. Admittedly, I am a n00b and this is my very first experience with custom ROM in the android OS. (I made the switch from iOS a month or so ago where the game of JB and unlocks became to frustrating.)
I have installed Darky’s ROM many times over the past week and cannot get anywhere near what I consider a stable platform. Events such as ‘force close’ and system reboots are so frequent, surely that can’t be the norm. Is this to be expected?
From the description in the post above, have I done something wrong? It seems like the most frequent response and solution is to flash the ROM again. I have done that and never seem to get the same response.
I realize this is a custom ROM. I just don’t hear others mentioning the issues I have described so I am guessing they don’t exist for anyone else.
You should tell Darky .
Majority of helps posted on this forum are for Darky roms fact not fiction .

@jje Thanks for your advice. I will take this question over to Darky's forum. I was hoping that the larger pool of potential readers here would be able to offer some advice.

Possibly if you hang around a bit someone may come up with an answer .
Not an answer but you can build your own rom .

This is not an answer, but for me Darky's ROM v9.5 wasn't stable either. It just stopped working every few hours, just turned off my phone without notice etc.
I'm not sure what the problems was but I think there are some unresolved issues with v9.5.
After flashing stock JVK + darky10kernel + Darky's ROM v10.0 RC3, all my problems were gone tho and my phone has never been smoother. But v9.5.. I just don't know.

quite weird how so many people say 9.5 is good, and so many other people say 9.5 is bad
i upgraded to 9.5 from 9.2 about 4 hours ago and so far it seems fine
I did a no-wipe upgrade and am using dark core kernel 1.0 that came with the mod itself
not switching to 10.0 because it requires a wipe cant be bothered till 2.3 goes official
Try flashing kernel 1.2 darkcore
9.5 not rock solid, but not that bad either
I'm running 9.5 for a couple of days now, and although I ran into some minor problems, I cannot say it is that bad. It hang once, sometimes I have a small problem installing apps from the Market, but apart from that, it's OK. I think 9.3 had less problems, so if you want to go for a more stable Darky's ROM, go for 9.3. Or wait until 10 is official released.
Go through resurection
One more tip: I noticed you started from a non-Darky ROM. What you can do (and it's what I did) is install the Resurection edition of Darky's ROM. It's essentially the 9.2 version and you can flash it with Odin. After doing that, you can be sure to have a clean Darky environment. You can even see how that one works, I know a few colleagues who are still on 9.2 and fully happy with that. But if you want to upgrade, it's much easier from there. Just use Darky's configurator after you copied the ZIP file to you SD card. It's easy, and like I said, for me it is pretty stable!
Flash 9.3 first then flash over that with 9.5. I have used a lot of Darky's roms and never once had any major issues with them. 9.5 is a good rom

Told them out of the thousands at least one has a good user experience .

I want to go backwards (I am on 9.5 and battery life sucks).
How do I go from 9.5 to 9.4? Can I just download 9.4 and use the Darky's Rom Configurator and install it the same way I went from 9.4. to 9.5?
9.4 was deprecated due to heavy issues. The previous stable one is 9.3. You can install it with Darky's configurator, indeed.
Bugs will be fixed step by step ....
But I prefer Ultimate v8.2 with Tegrak Kernel ...
Hi guys,
I have an SGS that I bought last year in September. From what I understand, some batches from August-September can't enter download mode. I've tried pressing the 3 button combo(pwr-vup-vdown), and the 4 button combo(pwr-vup-vdown-home), and can't get into anything(recovery mode/download mode).
I've had z4mod until recently when I decided to try OCLF mostly because I had the kswapd0 cpu killer problem, and heard that OCLF fixes that. It didn't, but afterall I think I fixed the problem(install AutoKiller memory Optimizer and set the preset to Extreme. The phone doesn't uses the swap service anymore).
OCLF is A LOT faster on my phone than Z4mod. The problem is that it has serious bugs. I tried entering the dialer and dialing a phone number, and it exited out of the sudden. Same thing for contacts, messages. Sometimes it works fine... sometimes.
I can't have a phone that plays around when I have to make a phone call.
So I decided to give Voodoo a try. The problem is that if something goes wrong, I'm screwed because of the Download Mode problem. If something happens, can I still fix it without going to a service?
How failproof is the Voodoo Lagfix install procedure?
Should I do it? I didn't have any problems installing Z4mod about 5-6 times, and neither OCLF.
L.E. Phone details:
Firmware: 2.2
Baseband: XXJPP
Build number: FROYO.XFJP7
All you need to do is follow the instructions from here to force your SGS boot into DL Mode:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=819551
I once encountered the same problem but fixed by this way.
Thanks ansonscleung! I just ordered this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Fix-Downloa...ltDomain_0&hash=item20b7ae36dd#ht_2967wt_1158
It's more elegant than some resistors sticking out. I'll just go with Z4mod for a week until it arrives.
A whole world of custom ROM's just opened. )
I decided to try KIES one more time today, and it finally recognized the device! So now I'm running 2.3.4 XXJVQ! The coolest thing is that the download mode NOW WORKS! I installed the root kernel, and will try the Voodoo one tomorrow.
One last noob question: When are the installed apps deleted? When installing ROM's?
Will Titanium Backup help me reinstall them as they were if this happens?
Damn, I have to work these days, but I need to make time to play with the phone too!
Hello people i hope you'll be able to help me and together we fix this problem
I've got a problem with my galaxy s. it seems like the CPU doesn't know to change it's frequences itself. If i power it on, the media scanner starts and the cpu goes 100% (1GHz) all the time. the problem is, that the media scan stops and even after 30minutes, the CPU still goes on 100% (1GHz) that's what the app 'cpu spy' and my battery life say. Then i found out that if i start music player and play some song for a while and exit the app, cpu spy shows me, that the CPU runs on 200MHz or 100 MHz all the time.
today i found out that if the screen is off it sometimes goes deep sleep, but as soon as i unblock the phone, it goes full speed again.. I don't know what causes that as i already removed and reflashed everything, the only app i have installed is CPU SPY
the history
the phone was bought, I was on official 2.2froyo , got bored, flashed to official 2.3.4 JVR , after half of a year a got bored again and flashed 2.3.6 JVZ , everything was just fine, but after 3 days i found something is wrong with my cpu, so i came home, fully charged it, and wanted to reflash 2.3.6 JVZ through odin, it failed and got stuck at boot.ini or something like that and I couldn't boot the phone anymore.. so i had to flash back the official 2.3.4 JVR with 512 pit file and repartition checked. It powered on and booted nicely(the only thing i'm happy of) and i hoped everything would be ok. but it wasn't so i went into recovery mode, wiped everything thanks to the 2 options recovery mode gave me, started the phone, reseted it to factory state again, I even formated the internal SD card and the problem still persists.
so to sum this up, right now I'm on I9000XXJVR 2.3.4
CODE_I9000XXJVR_CL425308_REV03_user_low_ship.tar (286 091 kB)
MODEM_I9000XXJVR_REV_00_CL1044379.tar (86 911 kB)
CSC.tar
watch?v=cLXQn0gOBuA flashed and guided by this video
and the only thing i have installed is Cpu spy, and it just cant get into sleep mode as it is always clocked at 1GHZ
Any ideas please?
I really don't want to flash 2.1 , update through Kies to 2.2 and send it for reclamation
Did you even flash a gingerbread bootloader in the first place?
Most of those issues exist because of having a wrong bootloader loaded for a device running different versions of android

Well, the CSC file was downloaded with the other 2.3.4 files and it worked ok 4 months or so. Just nowadays i have this problem
and phone bootloader update in odin was ticked off while flashing :/
Edit: How do i find out?
I reflashed 2.3.4 jvr once more today (repartition/autoreboot/F. reset time/update phone bootloader ticked off,| pit file, csc, modem, code) and the problem is still there,
when the screen is off, the CPU is in Deep sleep
as soon as I switch on the screen, the CPU runs on 1GHZ continually
any suggestions? :C

Are you running stock touchwiz launcher or not?
L studies slankse
Yes i do.
And for the instance you wanted to advise me to download another launcher, I've downloaded go launcher recently and the problem is still there - the mobile is in deep sleep only when the screen is off :| and when on, the cpu always does something:/
I have no idea then. With go launcher, i have realised the the app revs the cpu to full throttle on the homescreen when doing nothing.
Have you tried android 2.3.5 or 2.3.6?
if you want the bounce effect, 2.3.5 jvs also has it plus better battery life. Try it, i don't have cpu issues with this Rom.

I'm using the EU JB homebake from matt and updated the radio to EU JB from HSD's tool on what was a GB retail phone. Anyway after a few hours it started locking up and rebootign after around 5-10 secs from starting up on the lock screen. I'll have to take note of the apps i have installed but the second time it wasn't many nor did i freeze many system apps. A wipe data/cache fixes the reboot loop but its a pain.
So question is has anyone else had reboot after loading issues? Have any ideas on how i go about isolating the problem app which isn't compatible with JB but was working fine on ICS. Is there a way to find a log of events causing lockup/reboot remembering i can't stay loaded for long. Could it be the EU Radio? can i flash back to GB ICS radio? hopefully i can get on top of it, I'm going to just load one app every few hours till i can track down the problem one if any.
Thanks for the Help....
One last thing, is there any reason to go over to GB retail once out from EU, is there a difference I'm in Australia and Eu looks completely bloat free.
I will also mention that all i can see the phone doing about the time it locks up is that sync sim card thing it does when starting. I guess its a case of gettign to love SAFE mode lol
