Does the Gingerbread update render the Sprint EA24 flasher useless? - Galaxy Tab Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Are we still able to do this after the Gingerbread update? Just wondering if there's a method to recover.

You should be able to go back to EA24 fairly easily. Haven't tried it myself yet, but it's tempting, just to make sure.

[Q] Question about firmware...

Alright, so I updated my phone when the first OTA update was released, and it installed successfully no problems. After this I got into rooting my phone so that I could get rid of the AT&T crapware, use launcher pro, and enable sideloading for apps. I thought that I would check for another update since rumors were swirling about 2.2, and to my surprise it detected a package to download. I was able to download it, however it wouldn't finish installing on the phone and said that it could not be installed. Thinking that this was due to my root, I used Odin to flash back to stock and retry the install, and it still didn't work. So, after that I reverted back to the root, and decided to go and check the firmware and baseband version What is confusing to me is that for "firmware version" it says that I have "2.1-update1", but my baseband version still says "1897UCJF6" instead of "JH7". Now when I try to install whatever supposed update that is available, it downloads and then gets stuck at 50% in the progress bar when trying to install. So I guess my question is, should I be worried about this? Is this the current version, and does it just say "JF6" because of my root? Also, will I need to unroot if I want to install the 2.2 update whenever it comes out?
I apologize for the novel, I'm just trying to be as informative about my situation as possible. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
JF6 is the stock firmware and JH7 was the ota update.

Alright thanks, but why is my phone still displaying "2.1-update1" if I still have the stock firmware? Is it because of the root that it is displaying JF6 instead of JH7?

First of all I would post this in Q/A section. Second of all you need to use ODIN to get back to 2.1 stock before you flash cognition. Although I hope you know Cognition is NOT gingerbread it is froyo.
System version does not make any difference to flashing ROMs

You tried the one click root? It should be a simple process of downloading the correct update.zip and then flashing it through the recovery menu. Takes like 30 seconds. I don't think it matters what version of android you are on to root...

[Q] Software Updates?

Hi,
I was playing with ROM flashing and the like and I decided to go back to stock, so I did using the ODIN flash to JF6. However, it seems that I have trouble getting the JF7 update over the air to work. Any ideas?
Thanks
I'm a Noob, but you might try Kies - It should detect a newer version available and let you update that way. Much more reliable in any case if you ask me.
You can do search flashing to stock JH7 that should help you. If no one else has sent you a link by the time I get to my computer I'll send you a link I think it will be flashing 1010 build or something like that.

I've had more problems with kies than anything else, try the samsung website to update.
I see you was wanting JF7, I don't know what the difference is but this will get you back to stock JH7 Eclair.

I tried it, it works.
Well I want JH7, but I also want to be able to get the official Froyo when or if it comes out.

Go ahead and bring it to stock + update to Froyo.
Also, so it doesn't look so weird, use it for a couple days so there's data and cache lol

lol yeah probably a good idea. although i hate the idea of running it stock for more then 2 minutes
Running it for a few days and adding froyo probably not necessary. I would reformat my phone to stock in order to remove all personal data before i send it in.

i was thinking the same in that most people would factory reset before sending phones in but i was thinkin froyo might be smart because it would be 100% stock then im not sure if our 1 click stock is 100% in their eyes

Idk how much they actually check it - I assume it's kinda random so I wouldn't take any chance.
Odin3 one click does bring it to stock but having Froyo might look better and show that it wasn't just brought back to stock (along with some cache and data).

While we are on the subject, IS there a 1-click for Froyo (stock)? I ask because i've been hearing rumors of it, and i just havent had the time to investigate.
If there WASN'T a 1 click stock (froyo) then disregard my question. However, does that mean the only way to upgrade to Froyo (stock) is through CWM? I know people have been doing it through Kies, but i'm not a big fan.

Idk if there is but tbh it wouldn't be so useful as 2.2 as recovery problem which requires 3e recovery fix so makes flashing more painful.
There's although Odin 1.81 which you can flash Rogers (I896) version of Eclair (duno if there's one for 2.2 - haven't really looked into it as Kies mini works well)

Thanks!
there have been several threads on this
ODIN ONE CLICK (and the other) CAME FROM SAMSUNG
so YES the odin one click is STOCK. ITS WHAT THEY USE to refurb ATT phones.
there has been no ODIN one click 2.2 leaked to the net.
we dont have the source code so we cant update the 2.1
how much do they check your phone? very little. the internal guts to replace at their cost is less than 50$. They have dozens of phones from each different model come in every day. They have about 10 minutes to hook it up to a machine that runs hardware tests for them. then it gets gutted. It is not worth their time to *see* what is on the phone. They only care if it works or not. so they can move to the next phone in the bin.
stock 2.1 is fine if it came with 2.1
2.2 if it came with 2.2. there are CWM 2.2 upgrade flashes available. use rom manager/ the update.zip method of CWM to install 2.2 then delete the update.zip and rom manager app.

Not necessary. Just odin and kies.
I would master clear anyway if I were stock. Just go back to stock, update froyo and that's it.
If he flashes 2.1 (JF6), couldn't he run the software update to get JH7?

[Q] Will odin affect sim unlock?

I was wondering if i use 1-click odin to return to complete stock if it will affect the status of my sim unlocking. I bought my captivate that was rooted w/ busybox and sim unlocked but lately it's acting up so i wanted to restore to a fresh start.
Also, just to be sure, odin 1 click is complete out of the box stock from samsung right? I can safely get the official gingerbread update afterwards? Probably all noob questions I know, but better safe then sorry.
A One click or any other flashing will not touch your unlock, only a deleted nvdata.bin (BAD TO DELETE!!!!) will get rid of the unlock and any service you get. A one click isn't always back to complete stock, for example SauRom is a one click yet it isn't stock. And updates aren't pushed over the air anymore. All has to be done through Odin, Kies (highly unreccomended), or CWM
