A system update is available - HTC Incredible S

Hi guys
I have the Sensation and the Flyer so these days I was too busy trying to S-OFF them and to gain perm root. (no luck yet) During this time my Incredible S was turned off this means I have been away from my Incredible S for a month now.
Today I turned my Incredible S on and I saw that there is a new System update :
A SYSTEM UPDATE IS AVAILABLE
SYSTEM UPGRADE 2.30.405.1 (30.17MB)
My Incredible S has been S-OFF`ed since April by XTC CLIP and I have been on the stock Rom due to some errors on the customs roms like ( no harware backlight etc.)
My question is if I apply this update will I loose my S-OFF ?
Secondly If I loose S-OFF will XTC CLIP bring my S-OFF again ?
Thanks
DC

I got that this morning.... but then it vanished when i checked again

i think if you're s-off already you won't lose it. and you have the xtc clip anyways, worse comes to worst you can use it again.
i read that if you upgrade to this versoin on stock and try alpharevx, you won't be able to s-off it

i dont "think", i am 100% sure you will not lose your s-off
why? cuz i have tested every possible way to s-on again my phone..including OTA...

You will lose your S-off only when you overwrite bootloader.
I s-off my phone using AlphaRev but wanted to test a few things in full stock so installed my stock GB RUU to S-on my phone again.
After that I S-off again.
It will not s-on unless you run an RUU and overwrite bootloader. Even if you get it s-on accidentaly there its possible to s-off from any state So you shouldn't have any problem installing this OTA. This OTA doesn't have a bootloader (I assume you already on GB ). Froyo to GB OTA had a new bootloader in it.
Let me know if you face any problem s-offing and I'll assist you.

The OP has a XTC Clipped IncS that is S-OFF. This is not dependent on a patched HBOOT like AlphaRevX is; this is Radio S-OFF and will not be affected, even by running a RUU.

Ok I did the update but ,
I am getting an error installing the update 2.30.405.1
My current software is 2.12.405.7
Here is the video of the error .....

Any ideas why ?
Maybe I might have installed another region RUU in April, but can't remember now.

In order to install the OTA, you need to replace ClockworkMod recovery with the recovery.img file from the 2.12.405.7 ROM.zip.

I tried this last night and actually got a progress bar and it got about 1/3 of the way and then I got a red triangle with a !. I know that the radio I have installed is newer than the one in the 2.12.405.7 ROM.zip, so that may be my problem. Anyway, I'm going to pass on the OTA and just go ahead and flash the 2.30 ROM.zip using ClockworkMod instead.

This
RADIO S-OFF via XTC Clip is permanent as of right now.
AlphaRevX S-OFF method is reversible with a RUU.

@tpbklake: Sorry I don't have any idea how XTC chip works as I bought Incredible S after a software s-off method had been confirmed
@doublecheese: Download the WWE_2.30.405.1 RUU from this link and try running it directly from your PC or use this guide to install it from boot-loader. Don't forget to take a Nandroid backup before upgrade
You wont need GoldCard in your case as you have WWE Incredible S and you are installing a WWE Rom on it
Hope this will help

You can't do ota updates when you have a custom recovery installed..

If I just flash the WWE 2.30.405.1 RUU instead , would I loose my S-OFF ?
Sorry man it's been quite time I don't follow the IS forums.

yesterday i did updates into new version, nothing special, only my phone performance bit faster. and battery performance is same for me. but i think updates are always worthwhile.

Since you are S-OFF'd using the XTC Clip, you will be safe to flash the 2.30 RUU and still have S-OFF after the process.

Im a bit nervous becaus i don't have access to a XTC-Clips any more.

I took the 2.30.405.1 RUU and extracted the ROM.zip and then made a rooted ROM using the HTC Android Kitchen and flashed that on my clipped Inc S, so now I'm running GB 2.30.405.7 and still S-OFF. You can always go that route if you don't want to risk running the stock RUU.

I own my own XTC CLIP and a S-OFF Incredible S , I can confirm that you will NOT loose S-OFF after the OTA . How I know ? Because I did the risk and apply the OTA myself ... But S-OFF remains there solid as rock !!!!
But you will loose your root and then you have to do what EHSAN76 suggested to me....... This is how I get my IS rooted again.

You have posted a general question in the Developement forum. Anyway, it's not possible.
look at the bright side
I, too, mistakingly upgrade to 2.30.405.1. Looking forward to a way to be downgraded and S-off.
At the mean time, however, I made myself enjoin using better FM-Radio signal and much better image quality from camera in 2.30.405.1.
Note: my previous built was Gingerbread_S_HTC_WWE_2.12.405.7
it is possible to flash another RUU ROM using goldcard on a phone that comes with 2.30.405.1 ?

No. You can't go 'backwards' with a Goldcard, just flash RUUs from different regions. If that were possible to do, then everyone on 2.30.405.1 would be able to downgrade and root easily and there wouldn't be any problems with it.
You have to flash the 2.12 Rom.zip via sd (gold) but change the 2.12 version number in the android-text to 2.30...worked for me...

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but that will only work if you have S-OFF because by modifying the contents of the android-text file in the PG32IMG.zip file will invalidate the HTC signature and the HBOOT loader will fail trying to flash it an unsigned file.

Not necessarily, it depends on the ROM you're currently running. For the most part you can use a gold card to flash an RUU that's the same version or newer than what you're running currently, which is useful to get a ROM that doesn't have the exploit patched that AlphaRevX uses. Some carrier's ROMs can't be flashed at all, no matter what, gold card or not. For example the latest Verizon Wireless ROM is completely locked down and can't be flashed/rooted/S-OFF'd without using an XTC Clip. Other carriers are better about leaving the ROM's alone. All you can do is try and see what happens.

i tried it, creat gold card and extract rom.zip from 2.12 ruu and rename it to PG32IMG.zip an run bootloader. in hboot see this:
loading...PG32IMG.zip
when load complete:
checking...PG32IMG.zip
and after this step back to main hboot page and after reboot NO HAPPENS to my phone!!! my last rom is still alive you sure this way worked for you????

Even with a goldcard, if you are S-ON and you modify the PG32IMG.zip by editting the android-info.txt file to change the version, you no longer have a HTC signature on the zip file and it will not flash. With S-ON you will not be able to flash a ROM that has a version number less than 2.30.xxx.x
Then have anyone known what "ROM that has a version number greater than or equal to 2.30.xxx.x" and can be S-off by "Alpharevx".
I also tried the same, even with a gold card. I think it worked for him because he is already S-OFF.
There is nothing we can do until a temp root method is found for 2.30. Or we could use an xtc clip to gain s-off.
if i use the clipm then will it be s-offed forever? or if u update hboot, then its fall back to s-on?

The XTC clip will give you permanent S-OFF. Flashing a new HBOOT will not affect the S-OFF setting.
S-off + 2.30.405.1 = true

So I'm kind of confused.. I have the IS with 2.12.405.7 unlocked with AlpharevX.. and I want to go to 2.30.405.1
and as I told you I have a bunch of questions.. if someone could help would be nice..
- can I get the OTA update over the AlpharevX or will it stuck..?
- if I don't get the OTA can I use the XTC clip over AlpharevX to get a permanent S-OFF and then the OTA or it will burn everything.. ?

In order to receive the OTA update, you need to have the standard HTC recovery in place instead of ClockworkMod. I believe if you search this forum you may find conflicting reports of whether taking the OTA after AlphaRevX made you lose S-Off or not. You will definitely lose root. If you do lose S-Off, the latest Revolutionary from AlphaRev/Unrevoked will work on 2.30. Your best bet would be to clip your phone if you access to a XTC clip. Then you wouldn't have to worry about it.
Or just install http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1168796 if you want to stay with a stock ROM. I did.
thank you guys.. I'll probably try the cooked ruu.. (still curious though what would happen if I used XTC over the AlpharevXed hboot..)
Nothing different would happen. One is software based one is hardware based.

I got to thinking last night after posting this that HBOOT 1.09 was only for the Froyo RUUs anyway, so that isn't an option for downgrading HBOOT 1.16/2.0x since you can't flash a Froyo radio once you have the GB radio/RUU installed, so there is no reason to even think about trying to add gfree to the mix at this point.
!!??
So I can downgrade the firmware and Hbut or not? And by the way unlock butlouder already been made, received, and Root root.

You can downgrade to a lower GingerBread RUU (2.xx.xxx.x) which has HBOOT 1.13 so that you can run Revolutionary to gain S-OFF. You cannot downgrade to a Froyo RUU which has HBOOT 1.09 in order to run gfree and gain SuperCID.
If you attempt to flash a Froyo RUU (On the IncS, most of the Froyo RUUs were version 1.xx.xxx.x) you will radio brick your phone and end up with a paper weight.
Well, I will be enough of it. After all, the meaning of a S-off dropping Hboot. And close the bootloader.
Do not tell the most convenient way to do it, and if possible is easier. I have a dictionary translating what you write =)))

[Q] going to stock fail... need 2.24.401.1 nandroid

I got myself in a bit of a dead zone here.
I have my HTC one. Its HTC__001 WWE Europe. It OTA upgraded to 2.24.401.1.
When I saw that you can convert to a GPE I really wanted to check it out specially after users reported success in getting OTA updates. But I quickly realized I needed S-Off and thats not available yet.
I decided to at least take it to a test drive with ARHD GPE 3.0. I downloaded the latest RUU for my device (1.28.401.7) thinking I would need that to get back to stock. I went and unlocked the bootloader at HTC dev. Flashed CWM recovery and flashed ARHD GPE 3.0. Played around with it for a bit and now when I needed to go back to stock.
RUU.exe file got stuck at updating signature then returned 155 unknown. I realized maybe its attempting to downgrade the bootloader so i looked around for a 2.24.401.1 RUU but its not available yet.
I looked at Nandroid backups and found 1.28.401.7 HTC__001 but its UK unbranded. When I restored this version it loaded up but my touch screen didnt work at all. I flashed back ARHD to get touch capability back.
So my question is... Any chance anyone can nandroid backup the stock 2.24.401.1 i need? How can I go to stock now? Am I stuck with custom roms untill atleast s-off or HTC decides 2.24.401.1 RUU should be made available?
Thanks!

2) What I said above for going to stock is a way of doing it, a Nandroid is not the only way.

But Im not sure id be getting OTAs as the bootloader main ver still says 2.24.401.1 and not 2.24.401.8. I dont think Mike made a 2.24.401.1 available.
Its a bit disappointing. Im fine with having my bootloader tampered and relocked and s-on as long as I got stock running like it should be. i dont understand why HTC gives you the option to unlock ur bootloader to play around with custom firmware but not allow you to go back to stock. im guessing the RUU is on the way but I have my doubts... Nah, the stock firmware for 2.24.401.8 is not available yet, only a customised one which would require S-Off anyway. The method I mentioned is the only way at the moment to get as close to stock as possible without being able to go S-Off and flash an older RUU. When Mike gets hold of the stock firmware to post, I'm sure he will ... I can't see any 2.24 RUU's being available seeing that HTC are pushing for a 4.3 release by the end of September, so I'd wait anyways, unless you need to return your device for warranty purposes of course.
As for you getting OTA updates ... I haven't installed the .8 ROM but it shouldn't affect it as the base you are on is still an older base than what you'd be trying to update to but I'm not 100% on that as I haven't flashed it as my device is away for repair lol. I would imagine that the 2.24.401.8 firmware would be about soon enough and then you would be able to revert to stock with the newest base but obviously as you said yourself, without S-Off you wouldn't be able to wipe any trace of you flashing and modding.
I think HTC only allow you to unlock your bootloader because they can void so many warranties that way and bill for repairs lol ... Maybe I'm being cynical but I do agree that they could provide a stock RUU for people to return to stock, without all the hassle of S-Off or waiting months before any suitable RUU is available but sometimes you have to just suck it up and live with what we have lol

Google Play Edition RUU flash

Hi all, do I need to be S-OFF to flash the GPe RUU? Or do I need only unlocked bootloader?
The problem is, i'm on 4.2.2 WWE ROM full stock, and i noticed that, since revone doesn't work with HBoot 1.54, the only thing i can do is unlocking the bootloader via HTCdev.
Thanks to all will answer my question.

You need to be S-OFF to flash the full conversion RUU, but you can flash custom GPe ROMs if you want

Does the full conversion allow the user to receive OTA updates from google? If so is there a guide for this somewhere? Currently running a rom myself and s-on. Don't want to muck anything up but it would be worth it if I could flash and then just permanently leave it be going forward.
Yes it does, although I downloaded it ans flashed it manually through the stock recovery as I cba to wait on Google to push it when I was running the GPe RUU last week
S-OFF

Forget it, if you are not S-OFF you cannot do it. Once a phone is upgraded to hboot 1.54 and has not been S-OFF
before the upgrade is stuck.

Last check my HBoot was 1.4x
I got the phone last Friday then rooted and switch to Bigxie GP rom (ARHD sticks on boot) the day after.
I would like to get OTA updates so I don't have to manually grab everything and lose my data re-locking/unlocking bootloader each time when I do firmware updates (which I realize I will also need S-OFF for). I found the RUU guide so I may eventually go that route presuming the memory of my HBoot is correct...

OK then you are on 1.44 I would follow procedure for S-OFF.
With S-OFF you can do just about any flashing you want and you wil never
lose the S-OFF status. Once you gain S-OFF DO NOT RETURN to S-ON.
