[Q] adb can't see gingerbread galaxy tab - Galaxy Tab Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I upgraded my sph-p100 (sprint 7" galaxy tab) to gingerbread and now I can't get it to be seen by adb on either my mac or windows 7 (64).
Anyone know what to do?

Try a different usb port - they are not always the same.
In settings, applications, development, check usb debugging.
If the computer doesn't recognize the tab first, adb won't work.

I can mount the tab to the computer without a problem. And yes, usb debugging is on.
I don't think it's the usb port, my g2 work there just fine.
Adb doesn't talk to the tab, that's the weird part.

Try a different usb port. Try a different cable. Make sure the tab has full charge. I'm not just making suggestions to keep you busy, these steps have rescued many users ;-)

I've had to toggle debugging each time i turn my tab back on to get adb to connect. not a big deal, just annoying..

huh, that did it.
I ended up turning debugging on and off a few times before it suddenly worked, but it did work.
my device shows up as a "38357..." device instead of anything usefully meaningful, but it is working now.
Thanks for the tip. I've been fighting this since the update.

[Q] USB Connection Issues

I have an issue with my PC not recognizing my Captivate. When I plug in the USB cable to my PC, I can choose to activate USB mode and it prompts me to mount the drive, I say yes but nothing shows up in My Computer. I was able to do all this fine just a few days ago.
I have uninstalled/reinstalled the drivers. I installed Samsung Kies and it doesn't recognize the phone. I tried my phone on another PC and it won't show up there either. I've factory wiped the phone twice now.
Is it a problem with the phone or is there something I can do to get this to work?
I'm having the same issue. Did you get this resolved & if so, how? Tried both ports on my MB Pro & work PC...tried Samsung cable & another USB cable. Debugging is on.
Try Settings -> Applications -> USB Settings -> (select) Mass Storage
I found that when my captivate was set to Kies my computer wouldn't pick it up.
Mine was set to ask on connection. Tried mass storage mode (debugging off) & no dice. Back to ask on connection with debugging on, and still nothing. I've tried all 3 USB ports on my work laptop and both on the MB Pro. Any other ideas?
Did u try enabling "debug mode" and seeing if the PC recognizes it.
The main issue is usually your USB cable. I had the same issue. You need to find an OEM mini usb cable for it to work properly. The one that came with my phone works fine, but when i went to ATT and bought one for my work, it only lets you charge the phone and does not put your phone into USB connection mode.

The ones from MonoPrice work for me and they were like $1.50
Diablo: Been in debugging mode most of the time trying to get it to work. Main issue is getting my personal MB Pro to recognize, so I won't be able to check/tinker much until after work tonight.
cajuntigerbait: I've been using the provided Samsung cable – tried a work Blackberry cable (works fine with my work BB) to no avail as well.
Will update tonight. Any tried & true methods for cleaning the phone port while I'm at it? Thanks for the quick responses, everyone

Thanks, will check the site & order a few when I get a chance. Couldn't hurt to have a couple spares, right?

[Q] USB seems to have died???

When I try to connect to the computer I get nothing, just a beep on the phone, I was getting an error and now I don't even get that on my computer. (USB still charges the phone though)
I tried 2 different cables, 2 different computers and 4 different operating systems, Windows based. And lots of Captivate USB drivers.
I have tried Kies, odin one click, mass storage, debugging on, off, everything I can think off.
I tried 2 different Roms, (Apex 7 and 10.1) 3 different kernels and 6 or more factory resets. MTP is listed under apps but when I plug in the USB cable I don't see it under running tasks.
I have a Captivate I896 running Gingerbread I9000 software. I would like to go back to stock but without USB I can not run the software, (computer does not see Captive in download mode or in recovery mode.)
Would anyone know how to troubleshoot this, is there a way to debug the software and see just what is happening on the phone.
Dam you have tried a lot of things... lol
I have a suggestion... have you try 'adb'?
Let me see If understand right...the problem is that ODIN is not recognizing your device and you want to go back to stuck? you don't specify if you can transfer files between your computer and phone...and also if you can connect with 'adb'.
Probably was you micro usb on your phone got damage...have you been experimenting with a jig?
ya I have tried adb and when I type in adb shell I get a response of no device found. and no the only thing that went in to the usb connector ever, was the Samsung usb micro cable. I think I will take it to Samsung next week if I can find the service center around me, I think it is still under warranty.
Check to make sure the cables you're trying are data/charging cables. My stock cable went out so I found one I had in the closet. The one I found would charge but no data passed (ie. PC wouldn't see it).

[Q] Galaxy Note wont connect to pc

Hello forum !
i have used a couple of hours now trying to find a solution to my problem both here on the site but also on the internets.
i just recently became the happy owner of a Note, but i have been completely unable to connect it to any of my pc's ive had a galaxy i9000 that i didnt have any problems with but with my note it wont work.
under win7 64bit - when i plug the usb cable a "boc opens" in the drop down menu called MTP and when i klick that nothing happens, ive trid the varies ways of removing the sd card unmounting it etc. and debugging and so on but wont work.
it randomly connected once but then it dissapeared from my computer.
under winXP 32bit it just says usb device not recognised, i really wanna root this thing so i can play with the true power of this amazing device.
and on both pc's ive tried with kies and driver packs both together and seperately.
anyone out there that can help me out with this problem ?
cheers
and happy new year
Prosasan
Before connecting it to the PC with the cable, click "connect storage to pc" in the USB settings. After clicking it, then it will ask you to connect to pc. If you connect to pc before clicking it will not connect.

Hello i have done that but the same happens ive done it like it says i should i just dont get why my pc wont recognise it , when i press it and then it waits for me to plug it in, i do that the dialogue box shuts and then nothing happens besides windows saying unrecognised device connected
Strange, Mine connect fine just like how marinervijay mentioned. Go to Settings > Wireless> Usb Utilities and press connect first and then insert your USB, then press connect USB. Voila. There should be a window prompting to open in your windows just like when u insert a flashdrive to ur computer.
iknow its supposed to work like that.
the problem is that it doesnt work :/
Okay, have u tried resetting your Note to factory default?
no i havent tried that, because its all new it didnt work since i got it, i never thought that that might help, ill give it a go.
thx
On another, you might have a defective USB given to you by ur retailer. Perhaps you can contact them somehow and ask them to replace your USB?
do you mean the USB cable delivered with the phone ?
Cheers
Yes. Could be a defect. I'd suggest you check with your retailer if it is replaceable if none of what mentioned is working for you.
Hi,
Have you ticked USB debugging? Its under Settings>Apps>Development
Then it should show usb connection in notification tab, tap it and set usb storage as on.
There may be few problems here so I will suggest different solutions, one might work for you
1. Turn off your antivirus and connect, it should work, see after connecting mobile that does it install something near "Bottom clock"?, open "my computer" see if it gives you N7000 (give it a minute). sometimes your computer settings are a problem
2. If no, Install latest Kies on your computer as it downloads Samsung drivers for your phone
3. after connecting 1st time, computer takes some time to recognize your mobile--be patient--
4. if all of above doesnot work, restart computer, connect USB to another (or same) port (turn off antivirus) and see
5. Nothing, try in Setting>Applications>Development>debugging Mode
6. if not, try on another computer
7. still does not connect, change USB cable
8. Still nothing there might be a issue with your device, but I will not conceive that every quickly, trying all above few times should resolve the issue..
7.

Okey ive tried them all now, more then a few times most of these ive tried already and the antivirus isnt an issue as i dont have any on this pc. i think the problem either lays at the usb cable or the device itself. i will try and get to borrow a cable from a friend or something
Cheers for all the replies and helpfull inputs
Happy new year to everyone ^^
Have you tried connecting note to the pc using wireless?
Kies allows you to connect wirelessly.
good point!

Hey,
I am able to get USB storage, and I got root access thru the batch files and help provided in this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1329360
I have Kies installed and this probably helped detect the phone.
Hope this helps..
USb Problem
Hi I've had the same problem.
I have been using the Note quite happily as a Mass USB storage since early December. Plugged it in this morning and I don't get anything. I have also tried the debugging and all the other things listed. Here's what I get:
Usb debugging on - just a sound and a charging indication
Usb debugging off -usb connected Mtp connected on the notification pull down page. When I click on notification it just shuts the window.
I have tried dialling *#7284# and selecting USB PDA which didin't do anything for me but others seem to have had some luck. See this link:
blog.vacs.fr/index.php?post/2010/12/24/How-to-repair-the-USB-not-detected-problem-on-Android-Samsung-phones
I will be rebooting tonight but I don't really want to.
only the Samsung USB wire works
I had this problem today. The Note would never connect the USB or external storage. I searched and found this thread.
I then noticed it was another USB cable (I gave about 1,000 now!). I tried the Samsung one, and it worked first time.
It is annoying, because these cables are normally swappable with any device. It appears Samsung have defined their own standard. The great thing about standards, of course, is that there are some many to choose from!
USB cable was defect - and replaced
Thanks for the help everyone

[Q] Have I just created a $600 paperweight?

Good evening everyone.
I have an AT&T Galaxy S6 that is under warranty. My left (recent) capacitive button has stopped working, so I'd like to replace my phone. Kick in the nuts number 1: I recently rooted my phone via PingPongRoot. No problem, I thought. I downloaded the stock firmware for the AT&T Samsung G920A, and prepared to flash the custom firmware. Kick in the nuts number 2: My data connection pins on the microUSB port are fried. I've tried 5 different USB cables, three different computers, and nothing. I've disabled and re-enabled the ADB debugging option from the developer menu. But everytime I start an ADB shell from the computer, I get nothing from the phone. Usually, the phone will say "phone is connected as a media device" or somesuch, but it only displays "charger connected". Also, normally, when I use the adb start-server command, my phone will ask me if I want to allow the computer to connect, but I do not get that prompt. adb devices returns nothing. I've tried factory resetting my phone 3 or 4 times to see if maybe it was an S6 end driver problem. No dice. So, I googled around, and it doesn't look like the firmware is possible to flash via the recovery menu? It looks like it must be flashed via Odin/Heimdall. Is this correct? And if so, does anyone have any ideas as to how I could fix this?
Thanks guys.
Your USB port is not fried, you just don't have proper ADB drivers. Lol. Google "Samsung ADB drivers" - install and reboot your computer. You also have to allow the RSA fingerprint of your computer, if you miss that prompt, you have to trigger it again. Do what I said and watch your screen when you plug it in.
Maybe I should have mentioned in my first post, only one of the PCS I used was running Windows, the rest were running Ubuntu. I will try one more windows machine with the drivers installed and report back. It's also worth noting that I tried 4 different USB OTG cables with all different kinds of devices (Flash drive, mouse, Keyboard), and none of them have been recognized either.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G920A using XDA Free mobile app
Bump. I really want to know if I can maybe flash the recovery firmware from the recovery menu?
Are you running a launcher that might be interfering with the device-connection detection? Launcher-Pro on my old GSII would prevent detection of the USB cable / ADB connection. Just a thought, AoN.

USB connection cut out???

Hi guys, so I have a little bit of an issue! I've had my nexus 6 for about 3 months and i'm not sure when it happened or why but some how and some way no matter what rom I'm running, USB connection to desktop no longer works. I have tried turning adb on and off, reloaded drivers, and tried other computers. When I monitor device manager in Windows 10 no new devices are connected at all, just does not show up. No unknown device, adb, USB, nothing. So I'm not sure what I should do, I was thinking of claiming warranty however trying to avoid it. Any suggestions??????
P.S: Mounting external storage devices using otg is successful.
May there be some problem with your cable. Try different cable on all available usb port.
I've done that, no success
