[Q] New S/W Update, But I Rooted, What To Do? - LG Optimus 2x

Hi Forum!
So I rooted my optimus 2x, backed up and removed the f-secure and car home (uninstalled), but now there's a S/W update up? LGP990-V10c afaik.
Is it safe to update through PC? Read about about some people bricking their phones, and I'm still all-new to this whole android thing!
Appreciate the help
Kind Regards

Relax just update is ok!

Then after the update, all you need to to is re-root, re-remove your chosen bloatware, and re-enjoy you phone.

It's asking me to do a security backup, should I do this? Something like that

If it's F-Secure asking to do that, just ignore it.. You're gonna remove it anyway
But do the regular backup, contacts, memo, things like that, before you update

Can you please, confirm that update went ok for you?

Same scenario. The update worked great for me. (It didn't even wipe my phone data, but it's always a good idea to backup. Just in case anything goes wrong.)

When I use LG Update Service, it told me if I wanted to make a security backup or something along those lines?

It's just asking you to backup your contacts/notes/calendar etc. I didn't do that anymore. Just went through the update without backing up since I already have a nandroid.

What is a Nandroid? Is it something I should get (not need, but would be smart to get), if so any guides around or such?
Appreciate it Sorry for the newbie questions, just don't want anything to go wrong!

a nandroid backup is a backup image created with clockworkmod recovery, aka cwm. cwm is a minimalistic recovery os you can install it on your phone alongside the rom you are using

I think Smartflash is the way to go. You can find a stock image at modaco. Boot into APX mode and flash away!

Update to Froyo (OTA or Manual) wipes data?

Hi Guys
I tried searching before I posted this one - if not, I'm sorry
I have a stock unlocked Nexus One AT&T (EPE54B) with stock (unrooted) 2.1 installed
Since Google has started rolling out Froyo update for the Nexus this week, I am very much looking forward to it
A small question I had was if I update to Froyo (FRF85) over the air, do I lose the data on my phone? I have MyBackupPro installed - Will that help, or should I do something else?
Will it be the same if I install Froyo manually?
Cheers to all for reading this post

You shouldn't lose data in either case, assuming you don't wipe when doing a manual install, but I would certainly use something like titanium backup just to be sure.
@MSigler
Thanks for the reply - But don't I need to root to get TitaniumBackup to work?
Wouldn't any app that does not need root back my stuff up 'reliably'?
Just a little paranoid about rooting my 2-month old Nexus.

Astro File manager would back up all your apps, but will not backup your app data.

D'oh! You're right. I keep forgetting not everyone is rooted.
You really aren't going to lose much with a stock rom though.
Any paid apps will show up in market under "Downloads" so you can download them again.
Your contacts and emails are synced through your google account.
Pictures and music are on your SD card, so they won't be effected at all.
Basically, if for some reason you have to wipe your phone data, you will lose your call log, your app settings (meaning you'll have to go back into the apps and set up your preferences and such), and your text messages.
You shouldn't lose anything at all, but that's the worst case.
I updated from unrooted EPE54B using the manual method and didn't lose a thing....

Yeah, you shouldn't lose any data, but I would feel like **** if I told him not to worry about it and he lost all his data, so I'm going with worst case.

I'll try updating my phone manually today (if I do not get an OTA update by today noon) - Will update my findings here
I guess this answers my question and we can consider this a closed topic.
Ok, i just updated my stock unrooted unlocked N1 2.1 to Froyo in less than 6 minutes.
Confirmed no data loss when you update.
Sweet!

Three final questions before 1st ROM Flash?

I just watched the 3 part You Tube Video on Flashing Cognition ROM to Captivate,I need to ask 3 things. First the video shows the One Click Root method though computer. I already have my root rooted with z4root app is this OK. After the new ROM is on the guy went to Market and got Ti Backup and he side loaded it can't you just load Std. way though Market?( I have the Paid Ver. of Ti Backup) Third question on the video he stated to use "restore All Apps with Data" but written on the Screen says to use "Restore Missing apps with data",which is it? I hope this my last question but I really want to sure of what I am doing before I try this.
Thanks for help
Would have been better suited in the General forum, but..
Rooting with z4mod = fine.
Getting TiBu from market = ...fine.
Restore all apps with data = literally restores all of your backups and data
Restore missing apps with data = restores apps that are not installed on the phone, ignoring ones that are installed on the phone.
Best to ask in Q&A section, but I'll still help you out.
1. Yes, that's fine. The way you root it doesn't matter, as long as it's rooted.
2. Not sure why he'd go to the Market to get it then sideload, but yes, you can get it straight from the Market, but make sure you know how to keep your donate version after a flash, as flashes (usually) wipe /data.
3. Restore Missing Apps with Data.
Thanks guys I really wasn't sure where to Post this. Yes I have Backup of Ti Backup folder on my computer.
Thanks again

Yes. I have odin on computer and I have checked to make sure I can get into 'Download Mode". I have also load ROM Manger and made Image file of my Stock 2.1.1 ROM and have saved on Computer along with Pictures,Ringtones and have Contacts saved to Sim card.
Sounds like you're good to go then! Definitely made a lot more precautions and backed up a lot more than I did the first time, and that's definitely a good thing!

[Q] HELP!!!!

Ok, so I have a rooted Nexus One with cyanogen 6.0rc3 on it. I recently tried to put cyanogen 6.1 on it so I could upgrade to 7.0. Then, I see the common glitch where there is no market so I revert back to my old rom which I made a backup for(using ROM Manager). So here comes the hard part, when it restores my ROM, have no apps, no nothing which I downloaded, and I tried to restore again, because ROM Manager reinstalled, but I didn't get anything. Can some tell me how to get my data and all my stuff back, please?!?!?!?! If I don't get help by the end of the month, my service gets cut off, so I really need help!!!! Please help guys, thanks in advance, you guys are the bomb!!!!

What's that supposed to mean? You lose service because you don't have the data on your phone restored?
Are you using apps2sd?
I feel like you have no chance of restoring anything at the moment though.
If you have a custom recovery, just wipe and start again, or restore your backup... Make sure you have a gapps package that is compatible with your ROM...

All your apps will be in the market under 'my apps' and as long as you have synched with Google servers all your data should be retrieveable by re-synching.

You don't need to go to cm6.1 to get to cm7. Even on 6.1 you need to do a full wipe anyway to eliminate any potential problems.
Also did you happen to use CWM 3.0?

[Q] need help uninstalling CWM

I want to uninstall CWM. That means reflashing it with stock, right? I found the thread at modaco forum but problem is the link is dead. I want to uninstall CWM because it seems that it interferes with updating from LG mobile suite.
Please help.. thanks.

afterward, if i want to restore all the apps and settings, after i nvflash my phone, i use titanium to restore?
Also, i read somewhere about system apps and user apps. If i restore system apps, my phone will have erratic behaviour? That means, i can only backup user apps?
Sorry for many questions. Still getting the hang of it.

Really? Did you use LG mobile update? I tried to update using LG mobile update and it said there was an update available but when i tried to update my phone it said mine was different version. I assume it was because i installed CWM. That means, we can still update the firmware without removing CWM?

[NEEDED] 6.893 100% stock backup

Does anyone have a backup of 6.893?
Typically I am very diligent, but somehow I forgot to make a backup of stock.
I have not switched to any other update. I have read through everything thoroughly and I apologize for failing to follow instructions. With 5 android devices and multiple flashes I have never missed this before. And I realized it as soon as I flashed TH3ORYS rom
From what I gather the easiest and most effective way to get back on track is to flash a stock 6.893 rom make a backup and move on from there.
I appreciate anyone's help!
I am also open to using this thread or creating one in delopment to post the stock roms of every version.

Not entirely true. His system will be back to 5.5.886, but his kernel/radio will be his previously upgraded 5.6.893. He is off the upgrade path until he gets the matching system file of 5.6.893. Only then can he continue updating. I just went through this exact thing, used the one step recovery, but went back to .886 and had to beg to find someone to send me a CWR back up of their 5.6.893, which got me back on track.
Oh yeah...nevermind. I completely thought you were wanting stock not the ota. That's what I get for speed reading.

I'm in the same situation. Yes, all attempts to upgrade fail because our sys filed don't match our radio. I need this nandroid as well.

Giving someone a backup made on your device or restoring a backup made on someone else's device is an extremely foolhardy proposition. You are cloning the Android_id from one device to the other, which means that apps that use it as an identifier will push and pull data from both devices without any intervention from the unknowingly affected user.

correct me if im wrong but, all we need is the system img right because im stuck with a hybrid
Does anyone know if restoring my 5.893 back up will work, or create a hybrid? I ask because I think it is the same radios?

Check your pms and please don't share in case there is some of my data still left in the backup. just download all the files and put them in a folder and put in your clockwork backup folder on your sd/ext, probably the best way is to restore with advanced restore and just restore system only.

I have really been through the ringer today. I started off this morning by noticing that I had no data at all. I was on 6.893 and TH3ORYROM 2.1 and have been for a few days with no trouble until today when I lost data. I tried everything to get it back, but nothing. I called VZW to make sure there wasn't a network problem in my area and they suggested that I try everything that I had already done (bat. pull, sim card re-register, turn off LTE radio, etc). When they couldn't fix anything, they wanted to transfer me to tier 2 tech support, but they apparently need to talk to me on a different phone so they can diagnose this one, but I didn't have access to another phone. So I decided I would try to flash one of the updates hoping it would reflash the radio file and wake it up. When I got home, I used the R3L3AS3DRoot to restore to stock and tried to install 7.893, but the update failed. I searched around and tried every method I could to get any of the updates to install, but nothing worked, still no 3g either. Eventually, in my desperate attempt to fix this myself I decided to wipe everything and start over. I wiped the webtop partition. I think that's what really screwed me up, because nothing else I did was any different that what I've done in the past. After wiping everything, I went back to the R3L3AS3DRoot and tried to run it. No matter which option I selected, it seemed to run fine, but I couldn't boot past the fastboot screen. I tried to fxz using RSD Lite, but every flash I tried failed. Then, in a panic, I came across P3's moto-fastboot method used to "get you back on the update path". I ran that and it freaking worked!! Then I figured I'd try to get up to 7.893, but I've tried absolutely everything I can find mention of and nothing works. Every install fails. I am getting some intermittent 3G now though. And to top it all off, I discovered that none of the nandroid backups I've made will restore and most of them don't even exist. I just discovered that I needed to check "use external storage" for the backups to take. I thought I had been covering my ass by making backups, but they weren't valid. Currently I have stock, rooted phone with an intermittent 3G signal. System Version 5.5.886, baseband CDMA_N_03.1C.57RLTEDC_U_05.15.02, kernel [email protected] #1, and build number 5.5.1_84_DBN-55. As I sit now, my plan is to see how it acts tomorrow and if I still have a lot of trouble with data, I will return it to stock unrooted and take it into a Verizon store and see if they will let me try a new SIM card. I don't really know what else to do at this point.
