[Swype] Themes - Android Themes

The themed Swype apks below are all version 3.6.84.26668 and support hdpi only. I have not figured out how to change the trace color on this version yet. The method that worked for older versions (where you hex edit the libSwypeCore shared object file) is not working for this newest version of Swype. To install, copy the apk to your SD card, uninstall any existing Swype, and then install the downloaded apk.

I've been running my own themes for Swype and have also not been able to figure out how to change (in the new version) both the swype trace color and the color of the text that appears when you long press a key, either in the libSwypecore.so file or in the apk's xml files.
Please let me know if you figure that out, and I'll do the same.

i dont know what they did to change it but i have looked through every xml and smaili file and found nothing i think it is still in the libswypecore.so file some where but with out being able to decode it is hard to tell. my guess is that the have changed the color code just enough that cant find it but is still the same color

We're on the same page. I've scoured every friggin' file in the apk and all I got were sore eyes.
I did find the old color code DDA25B in the libSwypeCore.so file and changed it, but when you run the apk, not a peep of what it affected.
Hmmm...if we could just get the new color code.

I tried taking a photoshop eyedropper sample of the new swype trail color, but the transparency along with the background may be outputting the wrong code because I couldn't find the hex version in the .so file.
I'll post a screen shot of the trace going over a black and a white background shortly.

k we will see what we can do

Here ya go.

Sounds like you guys have tried the same things as me. I'm pretty sure it's not in any of the xml or smali files. Finding it in the libSwypeCore.so file won't be easy, but hopefully one of us can figure it out.

I've tried doing things that don't even make sense just to see if what changes indicates I'm getting close. No joy so far, obviously.

Kinda, sorta, not really lol.
It's flatter... no gradient effects. Very legible I think.
i like that idea
I just themed the stock keyboard (I don't use Better Keyboard).
I tried changing the text color from both apktool and source but source throws out errors and the apk produced by apktool doesn't work.

There's a quick metamorph, it's by no means perfect, but close. There are 2 metamorphs inside, so you'll have to open the zip and pull which ever one you need out (HDPI or MDPI).
I'll look into possibly creating a Better Keyboard skin (as per the OP's original request).

Im pretty sure he means the black buttons that are underneath the pop-up. Theyre called common_b_button.9 and theyre in the com.htc.resources.apk. Theres regular and small ones, so just replace them with the default_buttons from the framework-res.apk that youre already using and they'll be uniform.

You need to open your ROM with 7zip.
Navigate to system/framework/framework-res.apk/drawable-hdpi and locate the icons that begin with "stat", these are whats shown in the stauts bar at the top of the screen.
Drag them out into a new folder and edit as you want
The notification bar you refer to is named "statusbar***.9.png" depnding on what you want to edit, there a couple of images, the very top bar holding the icons is named "statusbar_background.9.png"
.9 image editing is not for the faint hearted, nor are they scary they just need understanding
You can apply the new images by adb pushing, creating a flash zip or metamorph(free from the market)
Check out the guide in my signature
If you need any more help P.M me or create a new thread so we dont hijack this one.

Looks good man. I know it was designed using a Captivate ROM as the base. But would I be able to throw it on my Evo to test it out?
Thanks for the theme, I was wondering if you purposely left out a red theme wallpaper?

If that was not intentional (and I don't see why it would be) then I'd be happy to tell you how to fix it.

Well either way here's the deal:
That image is a NinePatch image. You can tell because it ends in .9.png.
What this means is that the system will stretch the image to fill a given space according to a special one pixel border.
In order to see the border you must decompile the image with APK Manager or a similar tool.
When you edit the image without decompiling, you effectively destroy the NinePatch data and it stretches the entire image to fill the space rather than the areas indicated as stretchable.
P.S. The point of this is to use one image for multiple things, like different sized buttons

Yeah, I learned the hard way on those .9 png files when I was working on getting the border around the textframes around text entry boxes colored red. I decompiled a fresh version of both the dialer and twframework from SVII build #2, and then decompiled my red dialer and red twframework apk's. I have been using BeyondCompare to eliminate bad any bad .png files, and I am pretty sure I just eliminated the culprit.
The .9's are a pretty clever way to decrease OS bloating by eliminating the redundancy where it isn't needed, once past the learning curve they are pretty easy to handle.
Bryman27 pointed out a problem with a newer version of APKtools causing compile/decompile issues, forcing me to revert to an earlier iteration to complete certain mods. (Like the market)
Thanks for the advice, it is much appreciated.
Added to http://serendipity7.weebly.com/themes.html.
Very bold, I like it!
I've noticed this seems to have an incompatibility with the Serendipity VII add-on kitchen to some extent. If I install the add-on kitchen with the original Samsung MMS first, then the Redrom theme replaces it back with the default for some reason; if I install the Samsung MMS after, then it's not themed red, just the original blue/yellow. Is this just me?

No, not just you. The theme and the addon kitchen both replace the Mms.apk, so whichever you do last will stay because it will have overwritten the previous version(s). The way you get a themed Samsung Mms.apk is by, well, theming it.
Ah, alright. Late reply, I keep forgetting about these forums. I should bookmark the site for once.
I ended up getting the OJ theme instead, which already had a themed Samsung MMS available for downloading. Thanks for all the great theme -- might I request a pink or lavender (web color) type theme, if you ever have the free time to do it? I'm not sure how difficult the themes are to make; I'd even appreciate a link to a guide on that in fact. c:

Hey doods, I was searching for some normal looking Keyboard on Android,
and I don't know if it's just me, but all the Keyboards in the Store look like kid's toys from the 90's,
so I made my own Skin for the Swype Beta 3.26.92.37604 and want to share it with you:
( It's inspired by the Design of Samsung and iOS )
Changelog:
Version 2.0
-Fixed the Classic Version
-Optimized it, also
Version 2.0
-Based off New Swype 3.26, 15.01.2012
- CORRECTED THE 9PATCH! Now the image is alot cleaner and crispier
-Zipaligned and Compressed
-Signed with APK Manager
-Made 2 new Themes,
--Improved "Classic" xwype Version and
--xwype Neo with superdupersexy function buttons ;P
-Currently only Working on 800x480 Devices (others won't display themed)
enjoy
!!! Attention !!! The Classic now actually looks like on the pictures
Instructions:
1. Download the Skin that you want, and extract your Swype.apk from ./System/app or ./data/app
2. Open the Swype.apk with Winrar or 7zip, and overwrite the folders with the one in my archives.
3. On your Smartphone, go to the market and download Zip Signer 2.
4. If you have a previous installation of Swype, delete it or back it up.
5. Sign the App with Zip Signer 2, and then install it
6. Go to Settings -> Keyboard -> Enable Swype
xwype - Swype themes by xiq
If you find any Errors or 9patch missdraws, please tell me.
It took me much effort to make this skins, and if you like what I did, please click the Thank You button, leave a comment, or buy me a beer, they cost around 60-80 cent here, haha

Swype does'nt allow the sharing of their app but i can share the files inside.
How to install:
Download the file
Decompile YOUR Swype.apk with your tool of choice (i recommend apkmanager).
Add the files from the download into the decompiled file. Follow the directories, e.g.
Copy "Icon.png" from
download\swype\res\drawable
to
apk_manager\projects\swype\drawable
Compile. (Answer no to system app if using apk manager)
Sign
Un install Swype from your device
Install new version
If you dont have Swype it is a free beta, just search Swype and register for it.
Mod Edit: Linking to warez is strictly prohibited by XDA.
Feel free to make requests for different colours, styles etc.

Thanks mate, it means a lot.
Yeah i've no problem decompiling/compiling using 1.4.3, but it wont sywpe when the keyboard launches, which defeats the object of swype.
There are a few of us trying various things over on DJDarkknight's thread but it's looking like theyve implemented an anti theming system and locked it down, probably something in the smali with a random file name so we cant trace it.
