Hello all,
I tried installing a custom boot animation in /data/local but it didn't work. Any ideas where the bootanimation.zip should go on this phone?
Thanks
There is a folder called /bootimages. May want to check it out and see if that is what you are looking for.
Tried that. No joy there either.
I haven't checked into it myself yet, but in system/bin there is a boot animation file. I don't know if those are it, but a good place to check.

I'm guessing this is to replace the Verizon animation? I can't stand having sounds when I try to power on the phone in a steathy manner...

Yah, already killed the sound though. Found that one in /system/sounds/power/poweron.wav

Anyone else notice keylogger and keylogger_test in that folder as well?
Boot animation process is not android standard style.
Next decrapped rom will not use LG's weird boot animation service, and will contain a neato new bootscreen I'm working on
The LG Revolution uses .rle files for the boot animation. I have yet to find any software that will allow me to edit these files. It is definitely not the normal way most androids have for their boot animation.

How do I replace the 2.1 green htc w/white background to the original 1.5 htc hero silver w/black background and same for the hero logo from the original stock to replace that welcome to now ulgy animation. I have the image files and sound file for the 1.5 stock. I just don't know the commands and if I need to do anything special like rename files etc.
Two different processes - the first screen you see is your splash screen. In order to change this you need to run eng spl....you will find that if you search the forums....it involves setting s-on to s-off and enabling fastboot....
The second thing you see, the animation, is your boot screen...you can replace that with your current one by making it the same name....just remove the old one and put your preferred one in its place....you can do this via adb or with root explorer....
I don't remember the location of the bootscreen zip file in 2.1 because I haven't used it in a long time and I know its different than 2.2...but I am sure someone that uses it could tell you or you could prob find it by searching sense boot animations

For the boot animation, it's /system/media. That's where mine is.
EDIT: oops, that's on 2.2. Sorry.
Sent from my CDMA Hero. I got some hot Froyo on Hero action here!
bootanimation.zip is in system/media in 2.1
I wasn't sure about 2.1 having not used it in so long and didn't want to give bad information

HI,
I bought my Nexus S From a shop that rooted it installed busybox, superuser and all the stuff you need for completely open phone, and they changed the boot animation (after the Google screen) into their ad. can someone extract his boot animation and post it here, i searched everywhere and found only lower resolution animations (and if i put them the device wont start).
Thanks.
You can download the 2.3.3 OTA, extract bootanimation.zip under system>media then upload back to your phone using ADB or root explorer.
Or you can just put a new ROM
I don't want to change rom because I got used to this one and I need Hebrew (included in my current rom) and I preffer no to mess up my device (I run modaco custom rom r5)

Go to your settings and see which build number you have, then just download the rom with the same build number.
Here's the bootanimation zip file.

How to i flash a boot.img using a cwm zip?

My guess would be to use advanced restore in CWM. Just a thought though. Don't know if it will work. You're working a a new boot screen, I assume.

Edits to the rooting on the boot image.
I have the boot.img file but cant figure out how to get a cmw zip updater.script file to push it back
Can i generate a new md5 that cmw would recognize?
Then i could use advanced restore.
I would rather use a zip.

Hey k0g, just woke up, if you can upload the boot.img and pm me the link, I will make a cwm zip for you. It's kind of hard to explain but I can make it and you can check it out.

In the default.prop? It's funny that you brought this up because I have been looking into it myself the past few days lol. The only problems I see are we need a copy of the v6 boot.img, and we need a way into fastboot when on stock v6. I think if we had a way into fastboot we could just push a cwm recovery.img, boot into recovery, and flash the super user and su and set proper permissions. The only problem is I don't know how to force fastboot on the phone. It sounded like thecubed has gotten into it since he bricked his phone through it so I have messaged on how he got into it. I have already also messaged the guy that dropped us the tot file for v4 to see about v6 but haven't heard anything there.

I would love one but I can't think of anything I would want at the moment. Plus, I couldn't let you make me a boot screen and not give you anything for it, since it is custom, and I'm broke right now.

Starting to get very interested in where this is heading. How would I go about getting a TOT for V6? Do I just need to get a system dump or what? I'll gladly do it.

The tot would have to come from lg, but I don't even think it would be necessary if we found a way to enter fastboot mode on the factory v6 recovery. I could be wrong there, but there is only one way to find out lol!

Yes. That would do wonders.
For a system install all we really need is boot.img and system.img
Best would be the 2.3 system

Well I come from the Inspire 4g, and most custom roms had the bootanimation.zip on the root/system/media folder. Unfortunately, that doesn't seem to be the case with the Vivid. Does anyone know how to change the bootanimation on the vivid?
i would also like to know this man.
plus if the splash screen is changeable.
I had a pretty awesome one on my old
inspire I wouldn't mind having on my vivid.
Try /data/local

I think it depends on the rom. As in, if it is allowed or not. I opened a custom rom in kitchen and there was an option to allow custom boot animation. I turned it on and reflashed the rom back on my phone. I haven't tested it yet tho.
System/customize/resource/ATT_Bootanimation.zip
Edit: yep, renamed a downloaded animation.zip, stuck it in the folder, changed the permissions, worked like a charm. Just make sure its the correct resolution.

Yup - this. Won't always be the case, as mentioned before, it might be in /data/local/. Boot sounds aren't working for most ICS builds at this point. Someone else asked about splash screen - AFAIK that would require s-off to flash a splash, as you'd need to flash it in a PH39IMG.zip, and without S-Off you'll only be able to flash signed packages in bootloader. I think. But there's a PH for recovery...and we could use fastboot to flash the splash.
Let me try something...
Edit: Walking Dead is on, I'll play tomorrow
+1 on the walking dead lol.
hope you have success with the splash =D
As soon as I find a boot animation I'd want I'll give it a shot too.

How to Restore Original Samsung Boot Animation
This requires Root and a root file manager.
1 - Download and extract the S4_Original_BootAnimation.zip
http://db.tt/j1qlUFIY
Make sure you have R/W permissions in system/media before copying over.
2 - Copy the files from the S4_Original_BootAnimation.zip to the system/media folder replacing the original files.
SPR_bootsamsung.qmg
SPR_bootsamsungloop.qmg
SPR_shutdown.qmg
(I renamed my originals just to be safe.)
Alternately, if you do not want to download; you can make a copy of, and rename the bootsamsung.qmg bootsamsungloop.qmg and shutdown.qmg that are already located in your system/media folder.
Reboot your phone and you should no longer see the sprint animations.

The title could be confusing. This does not restore the original "Sprint" boot animation. It installs the original "Samsung" boot animation. The one used on the international S4.
