As to those that have the paid subscription....
When using TTHome, that it is priced at $29.99 until it actually bills your credit card.... then the price jumps to $59.99.
I have called TT support on it... they said that they can refund my money or I can pay the $59. They refuse to do a partial refund.
Here are the emails thus far....
Names have been changed to protect me.
Traffic over charge and non performance.

I understand.
But you guys are going to want to send out an update to TOM TOM home TODAY!
I have attached my screen shots for your convenience.
The practice of showing one price all the way through the purchase process and then doubling it at the time of credit card charge is not just poor customer service. This practice is specifically illegal in all 50 states and is referred to as "bait and switch".
While all I want is the difference refunded, some other enterprising customer isn't going to be as understanding as I am and sue you guys... and win.
I am not trying to threaten you... I just want my price honored for a product that I am willing to wait until you guys get it working.
Please let me know. For the record, I do not want a full refund. When it works, TT traffic is great.

Dear Cyjeff,
Thank you for taking the time to contact TomTom Support regarding traffic cost. It is our goal to provide you with an exceptional customer experience. We are always happy to help.
The cost for traffic is 59.99. We have not had this for the sale price of 29.95 since July 31st. This is why we are unable to provide you with a refund for the partial amount. You were charged the correct amount for the traffic subscription, as you purchased this on August 15th. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
If you have any further questions or comments, please email or call us at 866-486-6866 Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM until 7:00 PM EST. Thanks again for writing. At TomTom we believe in showing you the way the easy way.
With Best Regards,
Jamie

I understand your reluctance to refund a partial amount.
However, I am not really asking for a partial refund. I am asking for an incorrect overcharge to be backed out.
Maybe we need to look at this from another angle. How much is the going rate for Traffic? I paid $59.99.

My order number is XXXXXXXXXXX. There is only one item on the order.
I used to place the order.

I have two problems.
One, I recently bought the USA and Canada maps, but wanted to add traffic.
I thought I was paying $29.99 for the traffic add on until I got my bill. Which is the real price (see attached screenshots).
Two - I live in Atlanta. The TOM TOM traffic servers here work one day out of 3. Is this going to get better? If yes, in what time frame?

that's really taking people for stupid, like almost with any customer service when you ask money back.
Kee up the fight .
Was there a sentence like: you are booking now but until you've been charge we can not guarantee thr price? (that's what they are always doing online for flight booking, at least often...)
[Update]
Apparently, TOMTOM reads this forum.
For bringing this wrong to their attention, they are crediting me my overage AND provided me with a couple of maps gratis.
very pleased with the fast and professional turnaround.

Why pay $59 for it when both google and microsoft provide it for free? Both Microsoft llive search and google mobile maps provide online traffic information for free.

yap microsoft works perfect especially on POI side, however if traveling in remote areas where data service not available those programs wont work,
I have both tomtom 7 and garmin xt and I prefer garmin xt, free traffic for life and really good looking maps

For me, it was two fold.
One, I travel all over the world and needed to have a solution that provided global mapping.
Two, I didn't want to have to swap out a dedicated SD card to use it.
That left me with TomTom.
In another topic it was mentioned that Garmin has free traffic subscription and is designed for driving, so might be better then Google Maps. Never used it myself though.
If you are an orange customer you can cancel your orange contract as they are changing there terms and conditions. Just need to call and say you want to terminate because of terms and conditions changes and say you recived a text message (which shud have been sent to everyone but i didnt get one). They will try and talk you out of it but cannot keep you on. There are no fee's and you can keep your phone. Once cancelled feel free to take out another contract. Only valid for a couple of weeks so hurry. If this saves you money which it will feel free to donate for my advice. pm me thanx
Unfortunately this is old news ... loads of threads around XDA on this subject.
But for those that don't know ..
Orange sent all their subscribers a text (mine was on the 27th) basically saying your Ts & Cs have changed and details are available on their website.
Most people would ignore this but there is a lengthy thread on Money Saving Expert http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/...html?t=1825687 that details everyones experiences.
In brief Orange changed the contract so you are entitled to cancel.
At 3pm yesterday (Friday) the legal team at Orange said that the clause did not apply to those who could not show the effective changes in the previous three months i.e. going over their allowances or dialling 0870 numbers.
I suggest that anyone wishing to take advantage of this 'opportunity' reads all the threads on MSE before phoning Orange as there are some things that you can do in advance to assist your cause ;-)
If you still want to donate for old news feel free.
MODS PLEASE CLOSE THIS THREAD.

I know people in Haiti (Family) so I ask XDA if they can simply help out! with our devices simply text to help out please.. I am sure 5 or 10 bucks added on to your next bill wouldn't hurt..
simply text "HAITI" to "90999" and a donation of $10 will be given automatically to the Red Cross to help with relief efforts, charged to your cell phone bill.
Here is a secondary option. We're asking individuals to donate $5.00 by texting 'YELE' to 501501. This amount will be billed on your next cellphone bill, simply meaning that you will receive an additional charge on your next bill. If you're unable to use this method, you may visit the site http://www.yele.org. Ladies and gentlemen, the people of Haiti are in great need of our help.
My condolences go out to all of the families that have been affected by this tragic event.

come on guys.
Just thought I'd mention this:
You can raise money for Haiti when you search the internet by following this link:http://www.goodsearch.com/?charityid=803086
Searching from that link donates to Yele Haiti NY

Yep this seems related.
Hi just need some thought please.
Someone has recently sold a business but the previous owner didn't sell the businesses web domain name with it. Hes now willing to sell but wants a stupid amount of money also he hasn't edited the content to show he's no longer the owner and the site is out of date.
I can register a new site for them but does the content on thr old site need to be taken down by the previous owner? The content showing is out of date and still relating to the business as if it was current and valid
The domain is up for renewal in a few months while nothing can stop him from renewing is there any advice I can give the new owner.
Any advice would be good.
I would think that if they sold the business, and all rights to it, then running that website still claiming to be said business would be fraud. Granted I am not a lawyer but you should have every legal right to create a new website for the business for the new owner.
Thanks for the reply. Creating a new site isn't a problem at all nor is registering a similar domain name. The problem is the old website and its content. It'll take time for a new site and customers to become familiar with the new address but those who go on the old address still get out of date info. I've asked the manager of the new owners to find out if there is anyone within the business legally trained. Its frustrating as the old owner sold the business I don't know how he managed to keep hold of the site.

I don't think he's running it as he hasn't updated anything since it was sold. If he does update it then it would be wrong. But he's just stopped maintaining it rather then take it down
Quick question, is the name of the business trademarked? If so the past owner legally would have to give up control of that domain name.
That is what I gather from browsing through this anyway.
I don't think it will be trademarked but I'll ask the new owners to find out. It might be the right lines to go down.

Also check out this website. They seem to have some good info on the subject as well.
