Hey folks I have owned a touch pad and have wondered if it really does have gorilla glass in it. I have Googler many times but always found a yes and no answer so I thought I would finally put it too rest and ask some of you guys. Thanks.

Try hitting the screen. Hard. If a "crater" is created, it is not.

Friend of mine has broke one on 3rd day of usage. It falls on a rubber floor in a bus.
Be careful and avoid buses.
Story for not be clear. HP TOUCHPAD that is the device I have and want to know if it has the glass. Thanks.

Yes I did. Thank you.
ARTICLE: There were no creaks, groans, or wobbles anywhere on the TouchPad. Thankfully, Corning's ultra-tough Gorilla Glass continues its string of appearances from the Pre2 and Veer and is in full effect on the TouchPad
Just thought I would paste that in case anyone else has a similar question. Thanks again.

Bigjoe, do you think this might be a more suitable section for this question? This area was a hangout of mine for over a year.
I wish I could answer this for FPSalpha, fact is, I simply don't remember. The Q&A in this forum may help though.
i dont think it has one my brother uses it and i dont think it has one
Thread Moved to HP Q&A thread. Thank You
From what I've read, yes it is. However, I don't think the manufacturers advertise it as much now because of the unfounded notion of some people that Gorilla Glass is nigh unbreakable and/or unscratchable. So we get anecdotal accounts where the screen broke or scratched, so they conclude it can't be Gorilla Glass.
There are plenty of YouTube "tests" showing the opposite. That said, it is more damage "resistant".

Used TP for a year - doesn't have any tiny scratch)
Gorilla Glass is advertised as "damage resistant" not unbreakable, it is glass after all.
After using my TP for about a year I can say that I haven't run into a problem with it cracking or scratching yet (knock on wood).
The glass holds well, but an impact can easily crack it--the glass is just better than using any kind of regular glass on the device.
same here. have had it about a year. 0 scratches
There have been so many posts about broken glass and mysterious breakage, etc. Because of this I feel it's only fair to have a thread where people can post close calls where the glass did not break.
Last night my phone feel off the top of a beauro onto cement! Was in my basement. When I heard it land I did not even want to pick it up because I was sure it was gone. I had just taken the case off to clean it after getting some dirty fingerprints on it. I had a flash back of reading all those broken glass threads.
I picked it up and I could not believe it! There is just a very small scratch that can barely be seen on the chrome bezel. The phone was laying on its face when I picked it up and was covered with dirt and sand. I was careful not to slide it at all and instead of wiping it I went into my garage and blew it off with the air compressor. I then cleaned it as I usually do with a lightly damp cloth, the ones you get for cleaning eye glasses.
I literally spent 15 minutes going over the glass and the entire phone under a bright light to look for damage and there is not a single scratch on the glass.
I am usually very careful but there have been a couple times I have had the phone in my pocket with keys and one time a metal flashlight even and still not even a small scratch on the glass.
I have had other phones and have had an iPod touch, other tablets without gorilla glass and all of them had very minor surface scratches that could be seen under light. This glass is durable and pretty awesome at stopping scratches.
I think one simple way any phone can be scratched though is either when cleaning or even using the phone with dirty hands. All it takes is some very small sand particles on your finger or on your even when you clean it. Make sire your hand are always clean and the screen too and you should have no problem with scratches. As for breakage, I have had 3 drops so far, 2 of them fairly bad drops so I guess it just depends on how it lands but overall I have found this phone very durable despite being made of glass.
Anyone else want to share?

Although the glass didn't break I think it's structure is somewhat damaged. In many drop test I have watched, it usually shatter at the third times.
Mine have dropped twice without damage to the glass but I think I better be careful from now on cause the third time may not be nice like the other two.

Yeah I saw that video a couple weeks ago and thought the same thing. For it to basically be an all glass phone it held up well. That was the main reason I decided to just use a bumper instead of a back covering case. I figured if it can hold up to the back and side drop like that, a bumper should be fine for me (I'm not rough on my devices).
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
The front panel is mostly glass but the back is made out of plastic and covered in glass. What is amazing is if you take the phone apart you can see just how thin the rear glass is. Crazy thin!

Out of curiosity, which bumper are you guys using? I am using the official bumper btw.
I had kept my phone for charging on a table(unfortunately close to the edge ) about 1m in height . 3 missed calls later it was on the floor(tiled floor) and I heard the sound when it fell down. It was on its back with the front facing up and I thought it had cracked for sure. Turned it around to see no damage at all no dents on the chrome too . all I had on the phone was the glass protector for the back that comes with the phone.

... All the negative posts here about fragile glass are from Apple shills spreading FUD.
Every time a new nexus model arrives, there is a flood of suspiciously similar complaints threads that have no real bearing on reality. However it usually does the trick and achieves their aim.
I have dropped mine a couple of times from a couple of feet up and I have no serious damage to report.

I was lucky too. I just got to my girl friends house and had my nex4 on top of my nex10. I had placed them on top of a table on a balcony in the second floor of her house. Her little sister came running and grabbed my nex10 and the nex4 that was on top flew away to the ground from the second floor. And absolutely nothing happened to it. Maybe cus it landed on grass. But still there where rocks that it could gotten really badly damaged.

Hey guys, I have a problem. I use on Gear screen protector from one of my previous phone One X (nilkin). I cut small square for the gear but after one hour I find out that the screen protector is no there .
So, I was thinking that the screen protector is maybe old and does not work, so yesterday I damaged my second original Samsung Galaxy Note3 screen protector and everything looks okay. But today the screen saver is not there anymore
Any solution? These screensaver should be really good, on my phone always work very well. I am really dissapointed because screen protector from Samsung was not cheap.
I also had the same problem, first I cut one from my old S2, shifted past a few hours. So I order two from a german suplier on ebay specific to the gear, and the same problem past few hours.
The problem is in the glass of the Gear being curved.

may not be as effective as a plastic one, but it's invisible and it's working so far. Use ot on my note 3 as well.

So are you without screen protector like me?
For now yes, but I think I will give a try to liquid-kristal, tks for sharing Thelestat . Should give some extra protection, with the advantage of being completely invisible.
I've heard some reports of gear's whith Glass scratched on the wrist. Must be due to some clothes we wear.

Dry screen protectors will fall off. It s meant for straight flush glass only. I just cut out any wet screen Protector and it works well for the glass and metal. Xtremeguard has 80% off their website.

I purchased screen savers for my Gear from a company selling on Amazon.de. I have had no end of problems trying to convince this company that though the quality of the screen saver is great the point is it will not remain on the Gear, as people above have already mentioned, the body and glass are curved. What happens is the stiffness of the saver results in both ends of the saver sticking up, getting caught on clothes and coming away.
The only solution I can think of is for a manufacturer to produce a thinner protector that will bend to shape and remain stuck to the screen?
The company I purchased from requested photos and goodness knows what. I just filled a claim with Amazon.de and got my money back. I am not going to do the R&D for the company! I bought three of them as in general screen savers can, on times, be a devil to fit.
The glass will and does scratch so take care.
Kind regards.

Did you apply to the gear camera and the metal frame as well?
I did apply to the camera, did not think to do the metal frame.
If your cutting it out of another type, I found you need to round the edges. the corners that lift up, if the are sharp, will get caught on everything

Any difference to the pictures? as in blurr or smoky? Cos the lens is plastic...not sure if it makes a difference.
I figured i'll be using the Liquid Kristall for the gear.
Since after applying you can't see a layer on the screen....makes one wonder if there is actually any protection on the screen

The screen uses Gorilla glass, the same as pretty much every phone released recently. If you broke it, then I'm sorry to say it, but you must have done something silly. Sorry to hear it though.

Hardly. All I said was that it uses the same glass as pretty much every other recent phone. So if you have an issue with the quality, then that issue is with the gorilla glass, rather than the phone.
And of course some phones will shatter from small falls, that's fairly obvious.
Merry christmas!

I interpreted it as him attempting to say that he wanted to get hold of a box that was on a conveyor belt, so he lent across to reach it. It seems that when leaning over, he pushed too much of his weight on the phone, which would have been caught on the edge of the conveyor belt.

At this point in the game, pretty much every smartphone has a screen with essentially the exact same degree of durability. They're all using Gorilla glass or some equivalent. If your screen cracks, it's because of what happened to the phone. I guarantee you that any other phone would have broken in the exact same way under your circumstances.
It'll be interesting to see how sapphire screens hold up when those are mainstream in a few years.
Chalk me up as another that don't know how they cracked their screen. Mine has 1 small crack at the upper left corner and a medium one at the lower right corner, fortunately neither cross over the screen or where I'd touch. First time I've cracked a screen and don't know how it occurred thought it was just a long hair that got caught in the case at first.
I know the OP isn't the first here to have this problem. There was a few threads where people just put the phone in their pocket and pulled it out later and it was cracked. They couldn't remember anything specific that would have broken it. Also if I'm not mistaken doesn't gorilla glass just stand up better to scratches? From what I understood, it's not stronger than normal when it comes to cracks, just scratches. Which I can vouch for. Spent the whole day at work with my phone and keys in the same pocket. No scratches and even more lucky, no cracks!
Sorry to hear about your N5 though That's rough man, I would die a little on the inside.
IIFC gorilla glass is a bit more flexible when it comes to bending so it would resist cracking there a bit more than regular glass.
Just got a new moto x, put it in my empty pocket for 10 minutes and already have a small hairline scratch. Anyone recommend a good screen protector that offers good protection and feels good to use?
Look up realook, they're on ebay and I think amazon. If you put it on properly you can't even tell it's a screen protector unless you study it real hard. Try putting it on in the bathroom after a hot shower, the steam doesn't allow dust to float around and get stuck under the screen protector as easily.

Ok thanks will check them out
Checked it out, someone said that it covers up the proximity sensor?
"I am a pretty avid Realook customer, you can't beat the quality in my opinion, and I have even evangelised them to my peers.
I have purchased a Realook screen protector for all my screened gadgets. They are very durable, not grippy to the touch like the wet application competetors such as skinomi which leave a wavy ripply finish, and most imnportantly, completely invisible.
Their fit is typically highly precise as well.
However, for the Moto X there is a glaring and disappointing discrepency. Depsite the usual attention to detail from Realook, they have neglected the cut-outs for both the proximity sensor and front-facing camera of the Moto X. This may not affect the camera, but it is a deal breaker for a proximity sensor, rendering it almost inoperable. I was forced to perform my own cut-out before application and the result is less than satisfactory."
It does, which is one of the main reasons I bought it, because the cutout makes it obvious a screen protector is used. I haven't had any issues with it effecting my sensor, however I don't rely on it that heavily so I can't be 100% sure its not effecting it in some way, but it doesn't seem to be.
