[Q] Phone network not working - G1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey there,
Long story short, I sent a G1 for repair about 6 months ago because the touchscreen was busted, I finally got it back, decided to update the radios and hboot, before testing if the phone network worked in the first place.
If I go to Fastboot, the phone says
Dream PVT 32B SHIP S-ON
Hboot-1.33.0013d (DREA100000)
CPLD-4
Radio-2.22.28.25
Oct 21, 2009, 22:33:27.
Problem is that I tried a pair of Gingerbread Roms and can't get the phone to connect to the network. My G1 is unlocked, and I'm on Telcel (AT&T bands, not T-Mo bands), and all I get is a popup saying "Welcome to Telcel International Roaming", but it won't connect to any networks, roaming or not.
I've tried switching back to the 2.22.23 and 2.22.27 radios with no luck, the only thing I haven't tried is switching to the old hboot, because I'm afraid that coming from a newer hboot, it might brick the phone.
I'd appreciate any advice on what to do, I'd really like to have the G1 doing phone calls again.
Thanks.
Edit:
I'm currently on hboot 1.33.0013d, radio 2.22.23, Cyanogenmod 6.1.0 and still no phone signal.
I'm thinking on reverting the phone back to Android 1.0, flashing the original DREAMING.nbh on fastboot and the Andorid 1.0 rom. Will this undo all the hboot and radio changes I've done? Is it safe, considering the fact that I'm on hboot 1.33.0013d and radio 2.22.28?
Thanks.

i think your sim card is fried, it happened to me as well, just randomly out the blue one day i could connect to service provider, as far as the phone knew i had no sim so i went to tmobile store and got a new one for free and everything was fine again

I'm pretty sure it's not the sim card, I tested it on another phone and it still works.
At this point, I can only blame the guy that "fixed" my phone, who not only managed to not fix what I asked him to fix, he also broke the phone antenna, apparently.

hmm... wow that sucks man im sorry to hear that, have you tried different roms to see if the issue still exists?

Roaming after root

I rooted my phone not long after I got it and went to JF RC33, several Haykuro builds, then finally to JF 1.5. Throughout, I've used several different radios. The whole time, I've had a problem where my phone gets no service at all in different areas (Florida, New York, now in Alabama). I have an HTC Tilt that I take with me, and if I put my sim in there when the G1 was out of service, it would work fine. I assumed it was that the reception of the G1 was just not good. I got to AL this afternoon and had the same problem, so I tried downgrading and going back to the official rom, and now I have good service on the G1 sitting in the same room I had the 'X" with JF 1.5. I don't know if the problem is that the rooted phone is not able to roam for some reason or what, but would really like to go back to JF 1.5. Any ideas? Thanks in advance for any help.
EDIT: Disregard, I figured it out. I'm a knucklehead. The first thing I did everytime I updated rom was to change network to WCDMA only. Therefore every time I left 3g areas, I had no service. Sorry for the waste of a thread.

[Q] myTouch 3G stuck at "No Sim Card"

Hello, everyone. My brother recently bought a used T-Mobile (US) myTouch 3G as he needed a GSM phone that would work overseas. The person who sold it claimed it was unlocked and seemed to work for awhile.
It stopped working with the overseas SIM so he sent it to me in the USA to try and fix it.
Now it is stuck at "No Sim Card" message without a SIM card and I've moved to CDMA network so I don't use a SIM card anymore...
I'd like to know if there's a way I can root this thing and put a working ROM on it or what I can do to get past this screen... Here's the data from hboot:

[Q] Tmo G1 - No Sim error

G'day all,
Thanks to all who post here; learned a lot from you guys as a lurker... Unfortunately y'all got me into trouble; and I can find lots of similar issues - but no resolution...
Got a Tmo G1 - worked great; then started having browser crashes... Followed the suggestion, and wiped to factory. Since then I've been having the "No Sim Card" error, it'll connect now and then, flipping in and out of airplane mode will bring it back for a little while. I have changed SIMs a few times now, we've got a few in the house - and it's definitely the phone; not the SIM.
The freezer trick does work temporarily - brings it back online for a good hour... But then it goes back to not staying connected...
I've tried the *#*#4636#*#* and flipping between WCDMA prefered and GSM only as a reset - just like airplane mode, lasts for a short time, then she cuts out. (Actually on that screen turning the radio off & on works better and faster).
Has anyone actually resolved this issue? I've got to guess that since my phone is bone stock, and a wipe initiated the problem; that this must be a setting issue; not a hardware issue?
Thanks in advance
Which ROM and what is your SPECS?
Unmolestered Sorry should have seen that one coming...

Sorry for too many question. What did you follow?
Not sure what you mean? Followed one of the 'tips and tricks' to wipe, but otherwise, the phone's as it was out of the box... Didn't really follow anything; as I haven't done much of anything to it...
Sorry missed understood you when you said you Followed the suggestion, and wiped to factory.
Let try this real quick see if you can find a piece of paper cut it to size of the sim. Stick it behind the sim card. Just in case if the sim is not making contact with the slot. I had that happens to one of my phone (different brand). And by doing that it fixed it.
Yeah didn't mention it but did try thickening the sim to make better contacts; tried sanding off the little nubs from the moulding process off to adjust how it sat... sliding in a rogers sim - it works fine in 2g? Seems like its a 3g issue?
Well I don't know what I did... But it's mostly resolved itself (as long as I turn it off at night).
Rather than leaving it in my pocket, was leaving it on my aluminum clipboard, working outside (barely above freezing last week), now it's just staying connected... Most of the time, like I said - if I leave it on overnight it's back to no sim by morning...
Wonder if there's a learning/self-adjusting on the radio???

I think I have finally broken my phone..

Its been two weeks now, since last time I had LTE...my phone has been having one trouble after another. At first I though it was the towers and they told me it would be fixed in a couple of weeks but all my family members have Sprint too and lte works fine for them. My phone is S-off rooted. I chnaged the rom like 10 times already trying to make the radio work because I only get 3G and I dont know what to do anymore! Radio seems to be off now, I cant even turn on the wifi.
Please help
attempted hands free activation and its contacting network and doing the attempts but that is it. Not sucessfully doing anything
it's not going to activate if you don't have a signal unfortunately. You need to get it swapped out or fix the radio to the point that it's at least on.

[Q] Butterfly S no sound in calls - with a twist

I know this has been raised several times already, but my problem seems a tiny bit different.
I haven't updated any software, wasn't even connected to WIFI when it happened. In the evening calls worked, woke up in the morning - they don't.
Happened around a month ago, on completely stock Sense 6 KK 4.4.2. HTC have since rolled out a mini update about a week or 2 later, hasn't helped. OTA doesn't install by default, in case you were wondering.
I've seen people saying they get no sound in calls, but it works on speaker or BT headset, or wired headset etc.
Nothing works for me. Tried connecting BT, headphones, headsets, removing SD cards, increasing in-call volume (duh)..
Calls connect with no problems, reception is full, either GSM or HSPA, no sound received or sent.
Dialing numbers in call does go through, though .
I tried soft reset, hard reset, mediocre reset, factory reset
I've even unlocked bootloader through HTCDEV, rooted, flashed several custom roms and kernels (MaximusHD13, InsertCoin 2.4.0, InsertCoin 3.0.6, Falter1.1 kernel, Project Era, Monarudo M7 Port, and so on...)
Of course, fully wiping EVERYTHING between attempts.
Failed to S-OFF so far.. both firewater and rumrunner.
Lets see what else..
I have the 901S variant. 044 if I'm not mistaken
Here's my bootloader:
*** TAMPERED ***
*** UNLOCKED ***
DLXP_UL PVT SHIP S-ON RH
HBOOT-1.57.0000
OS-4.10.7007.2
eMMC-boot 2048MB
Hell, I've even tried contacting HTC but their chat doesn't work for me, sending email through the site just loads forever and sending a regular email got no response.
I ordered the phone from Singapore, and I live in the middle east. So local support is out of the question for me...
The only thing I have yet to try is getting another sim in this phone or my sim in another phone, but I can't seem to find anyone with a micro sim
Thus, I resort to asking you guys for help.
HELP!!:crying::crying:
P.S. The hardware works fine. Ran safe mode, hidden tests, skype calls. Everything works, other than sound in phone calls (even in safe mode).
bump? anyone?

The problem started when I was completely stock and unrooted, how is going back to stock gonna solve this?
Also, a new problem showed up a couple of days ago.
Now the phone tells me I have no sim card installed, and restarting/airplane mode don't help.
Tried reflashing several different roms and kernels, nothing.
Tried taping some transparent tape to the back of the sim to make it press better against the contacts, nothing.
I really loved this phone until now, but it's become impossible to use.

My guess is that your best bet is to send it to a HTC service center. The problem with the SIM reader sounds like a hardware issue to me. The no sound problem may be caused by radio or whatever. We can't do anything better than to guess here since it appears noone has encountered a similar problem around here.
htc said I need to send it to Singapore, since it's their model.
It's still on warranty, but I can't s-off it to reset the tempered flag...
