[Q] CF-Root No Further Development? - Galaxy Tab Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Where is Chainfire? Why is there no activity regarding CF-root? Lost interest?

He is around. His vision regarding CF root is simply putting a stock kernel with added root, busybox and CwM. Its mostly intended for those who want to keep their tab as stock with simple root.

If so then somebpdy should update the first post so as to state that it supports latest kernel and not only the last one JQ1.

I just found out thru twitter-Chainfire is busy with galaxy 2 II. CF-root is now version 4 there.
I just hope he updates the one for GT......

I'm kinda lost... Rooting the P1010 after Gingerbread

So a friend of mine updated his p1010 to the official Gingerbread following this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1410035 but the instructions in the guide says that root comes with CWM in the second post...
I would just like to confirm if this is true since it goes against the procedure I went through with my Optimus One (root first, then install CWM, then install roms). I don't see where root access can be gained in the guide above.
And i think GB cannot be rooted with z4root so how do you root an official p1010 on gingerbread? Could it have been possible to root with z4root, install CWM, then flash a rom already on GB with no other changes?
See if THIS answers any of your questions
Yeah that guide only talks about z4root which is part of my question...
Does z4root even work for Gingerbread? My experience in the past with GB and z4root makes me say no... So what else can I do to root a stock GB Galaxy Tab p1010?
You didn't look far enough. That thread contains ALL the information you need. I wrote it based upon my experience and I am running the GB KPI firmware which is most certainly ROOTED.
Post 4
sorry just new in flashing. i just flashed my p1010 with the official philippine version which is not root. is it okay to flash with the uk version (root) even though i'm from the philippines?
thanks
Can anybody tell me a guide or something.. For flashing kpo kernel after flashing kpi kernel for rooting kpo firmware.... So is is possible to flash only kernel..??

[Q] Rooting + installing Dark Knight on I9000 with firmware 2.3.6

I would like to root my phone and install a new rom (last version of Dark Knight), but it's my first time and I would like to make sure that it is done right. I have a few questions before I begin, so I don't screw up my phone.
1. What is the best way to root my Samsung Galaxy S (I9000)? Does it mather which firmware version is on the phone? Mine is 2.3.6.
2. After this is done can i install the latest dark knight version on my phone or do I need to do anything else?
3. Do I need to update my kernel as well? I now have XWJW5. I've been reading alot but I can't find the right steps.
I really hope someone can help me with these questions.
for root look here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=723596
2. Ye you can, through CWM
3. XWJW5 is not a kernel it's a modem.
If XWJW5 is not a Kernel, then how has my phone been running for the last month? Bud just get a root kernel for JW5 from semaphore and flash it in odin as pda.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=14481782
Download the one that says semaphore 2.7.4. tar.

No bluetooth after franco kernel installed, root + cwm

Guys, I'm at stock Android from Samsung with TWiz.
Bluetooth isn't working after doing what I mention at the beginning of the post.
Any ideas? Kernels fault? Should I change it?
I don't want to go back to stock, rooting is needed for lots of things outside the US.
Which rom?
Change kernels.

Original Samsung stock Android 4.0.4
Update : just changed to Note Core OC version and BT is back. I guess it was the kernel.
I don't remember where I read that Franco kernel was not supported anymore.
Anyway, mods, edit to solved
Use other kernel like goku kernel, notecore n speedmod...
Goku kerner V.1,5
Notecore V.4 and the next version
Speedmod kernel K3-9 and the next version
This kernel that supports blutooth in stockrom 404

Try another kernel like notecore. This normal for custom kernel sometimes the bluetooth wont work and another times wifi and some other things. This is the negative side of custom kernel.
Franco kernel won't work with Bluetooth in 4.0.4
And I'm pretty sure he's not updating anymore

Working with speedmod kernal
Had the same issue...
updated kernal with speedmod and now all functions working OK...:cyclops:
same 4 me.. not bluetooth with Franco kernel in ICS
Anyway. Franco is a great kernel. Great Benchmark while using it.. but cannot live without a bluetooth
Dude, which guide you follow? If it's the YouTube guide that uses a temp cwm recovery to root, then you just nearly murdered your device. Read the sticky threads in this forum and you will see.

how to change to another kernel?
hey guys, sorry Im new to this kind of thing but I need help.
so recently I rooted my galaxy note GT-N7000 and flash it with the franco kernel. after that, my bluetooth and my mobile network is not working. so I unrooted it but the problem is still not fixed. so my question is, can I flash it a new kernel if it is unrooted? or must I root it again/
thanks for the help guys.
you can use pc odin to flash the kernel but that will increase the counter and leave a yellow triangle in the boot screen. If you are on stock ics then install philz kernel as per your ROM build

any way how did you unroot it?

Rooting Help Required

Hi All,
Im thinking of rooting my Samsung Galaxy s3 4G and need some help before is start.
I was going to use this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1914394&highlight=i9305.
But after watching this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vhSSmdqAXRM&feature=player_embedded i notice there are more options which may be easier.
Can someone please guide me so i dont mess my phone up?
Also where can i find the original firmware incase i need to reflash for warranty?
I also read that i need to backup my iemi but am unsure how i do this?
Cheers
You can download the firmwares via sammobile or via Samsung kies
I advise installing CWM ClockWork Recovery with Odin then flashing a custom ROM

I would advise doing this first...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1946915
Then root via this method =) (there are known problems with the 6.XXX touch recovery)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1914394
You now have root!
Then if you want the latest version straight from Samsung (4.1.2) flash this through CWM:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2066767
Hope that helps =)
I was thinking of using the toolbox and hoping it was an all in one application.
Im really really new to Android.
Autoroot with stock recovery and mobile odin works best for me. I'm a noob too. Have flashed perseus kernal and pandoriams latest 4.1.2 and works great

[Q] How to root SG Note N7000 Ultimate XXLSC Jellybean 4.1.2 v5.1.

N00b here
I managedto upgrade my Note n7000 Ultimate N7000 XXLSC JellyBean 4.1.2 using this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1970626) thanks to everyone involved in developing it. I have PhilZ Touch 4 installed.
The ROM is not rooted. What methods are available to root the device with the above Roms and Kernels and could you please provide a description and / or link where we could find them.
I found this link useful (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1329360) and tried option 1A but it did not root the device.
Thanks

Thanks ThaiDai I did think that, but;
- titanium backup; cannot acquire root privileges....
- busybox; problem opening shelllnwith root
- root checker; device does not have proper root access
- lucky patcher; no root access found
I feel that the problem is supersu as it cannot update SU binary and gives me a message "Installation Failed". It's the one that came with Ultimate Jellybean...
Any other suggestions to fix this issue will be appreciated....
Thanks
I messed up my leaked 4.1.1 JB on my note. Su was not updating binary but I had root, did a little research here and there and thought might be a good idea to install a fresh copy of Super SU from Google App, I went into SuperSu settings and chose clean up for fresh install from App store, SuperSu closed itself and I downloaded and installed fresh copy from Google apps. Bam, SuperSu say "No binary found and SuperSu can not install it". Titanium backup and root checker said no root. Tried to find a method but failed find one (may be I was not looking for a solution too hard.). Although I had CWMR.
Then decided to go back to ICS, Downloaded a fresh copy of ICS 4.0.3 and flashed using PC Odin, when everything was working fine I rooted ICS with Philz and then keis upgraded it to 4.0.4 and I lost root again . But same kernel.zip worked again and my Note was rooted again within few sec. Next day I found Super Nexus for Galaxy Note version 5. Downloaded it and flashed it along with 1 extra zip from same thread. I lost Philz CWMR but have root access. And ROM is working wonders. Good nice smooth and battery life is even better than ICS I think it is due to that Blob.zip I flashed as was advised in that thread.
So, if you can not find a safe method to root JB then go back to ICS and try again. or just try little harder.

Thanks but that still doesn't help explain why supersu is not giving root access. What about installing a different kernel like Hydracore V.7?

Dont flash any hydracore kernels on JB leaks, hydracore is for ICS roms
I have few times on different roms, the same problem with root like you, but usualy i just installed solid explorer (when it is installed, jump to root directory) it will prompt you that you dont have installed busybox. So install that busybox from market. Open it choose install again. And after that reboot your phone.
I dont realy know what caused this, but i do not care, because installing solid explorer is one of the steps after flashing new rom :silly:
You can try...
flash the philz kernel seperately will help you

Thanks abhinav quietly brilliant that did work! Seems like the simplest things work the best :good:
So to anyone who has experienced the same problem with SG Note N7000 Ultimate XXLSC Jellybean 4.1.5 v5.1 not being Rooted after flashing the rom and kernel I just reflashed the PhilZ4 kernel separately as per abhinav quietly brilliant suggestion.
Thanks again
