According to a newspage in Germany an update is only a few days away. They don‘t know if it is the GB update or just another Froyo update but it should be the GB update because of current update of G2X.

Yeah, T-mo G2x and Moto Atrix already got GB, so ours shouldn't be far away
According to this its not going to arrive in the UK until August / september.

I wouldnt hold out much hope, stick with Cyangenmod, those guys should be paid by LG to sort out the sh#'t software they are putting on the x2.
Useless unless drivers updated too

I loved one of todays comments at the end of that article
They stated they had contacted LG about the Update mentioned and were told there is no exact date but it should be out within 2 weeks
There is that magic timeframe of 2 weeks again. Are they living in the world of 24 and Jack Bauer?, their weeks seem to drag on for months
I Especially loved the statement made by them on the Reghardware article
'The reason for the long roll out? It's so that "Optimus customers will not experience the types of bugs found in smartphones recently upgraded to Android 2.3", apparently'
Why would we be worried about that? we've put up with enough bugs with the Optimus and Android 2.2
Well atleast they have a timeframe cause up here the wind mobile rep told me august and the lg canada rep said no you don't need an update its a new phone and the american lg rep told me it should be soon since they got their update for tmobile talk about bloody confusing

According to the danish lg site, under FAQ of the LG Optimus 2x, they say that it'll be out in june/july 2011. So that seems to be as official they have stated a release date yet
If that's real, than it's a real shame. 6 months to get GB working on their flagship device seems really lame and only shows LG inability to give the updates in a timely manner. In June Android 2.4 will be already launched.
Yeah this sucks ballzzzz
Yeah it seems to be true, but have only been posted (as far as I have checked) on the Scandinavian sites for Denmark, Sweden and Norway.
I also made this post about it (maybe in the wrong section) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1034970

This means Cyanogenmod is again overtaking the manufacturer

oh my goodness when is the cyanogen gingerbread update .........
hehe who cares? I only care about CM7
The problem is there are a lot of fixes needed even within the LG Android 2.2.2, it's not all about providing GB. The stock LG software is subpar in my oppinion and the problems signaled here and on other forums needs to be addressed by LG hopefully before June.
[email protected], CM7 would be nice but for O2X is in a far from usable state.
If LG launch the 2.3 with the know how demonstrated on 2.2... I don't see how this is a good news...
CM7 is all that mater
maybe LG is waiting for cm7, and get the idea from it
I absolutely agree with the statement "Who cares, I just want CM7".
Then again, LG having the low-level dev access that they have (drivers and whatnot), isn't much easier for them to dev the update than for us to dev CM7? Moreover, wouldn't it be much easier to port CM7 if we had an LG 2.3 ROM?
Cheers.
Shame I switched from Samsung after month of **** firmwares and now the same on lg - now I really consider apple - they know hot to build a kernel to use the hardware
google and android is as it seems incapable of delivereing a kernel for single or dual core
the always bring out new phones and none run well

I kind of like LG for the speed, is much faster than the Galaxy S no matter what kernel you had on it, but O2X has other problems like the poor audio quality in calls and still the software doesn't feel like it's the final version, more like a test one. I agree we should expect more because the super fast hardware is there. It's a reality manufacturers don't care about that, they act like sell only the hardware and after that, they wash their hands. At least Samsung continue to support the Galaxy S which will have GB within weeks and in the meantime we have to wait until summer to get our port on O2X. I would never buy Apple, they sell just boring super expensive and locked products, that are still owned by them even after they sell them to you. If you want Android without headaches, the best bet is on the Nexus Phones. But, in the end, you can't have everything I guess...
Wow, that was long... what are we talking about here?
Sounds like the email I recived from LG Sweden this monday which said their devs had started to work on 2.3...... but what...started? Hasn't 2.3 been out for a while??

LG Optimus 2x have the potential to be faster then the Nexus S, all you need is just to wait until more developers use the phone
"LG Aus irons bugs out of Optimus 2X
World's first dual-core phone on sale downunder.
LG Australia has finally broken its silence over ongoing problems with the Optimus 2X, which Guiness World Records acknowledges as the world’s first dual-core smart phone.
Users overseas and locally who had bought the product through eBay and other online sources reported a number of issues with the phone including random power-offs.
The Korean company subsequently released a patch, however, many users continued to report malfunctions.
LG Australia marketing director Brad Read confirmed that the problems related to the incompatibility of the phone's software – developed with Google’s Android 2.2 Froyo – and the handset's dual core processor.
For several weeks LG Australia’s Facebook page has been peppered with customer complaints, however, LG only acknowledged the problem on the social networking site yesterday.
One reader said he was selling his Optimus 2X for $1 on eBay as a paperweight.
Read, however, said that all of the problems had now been ironed out.
An updated software fix had been installed in phones shipped to Australia with no customers buying locally expected to have any problems.
The Optimus 2X goes on sale this week at Harvey Norman and was expected to soon become available through other outlets including mobile carriers.
Its price tag in Australia would be around $650.
Notwithstanding the software compatibility issues, the Optimus 2X was expected to generate much kudos for LG in the highly competitive mobile phone market, and woo users with its promise of dramatically faster management of mobile apps and downloading of web content."

The explanation seems kinda vague to me, not to mention the timing. They say the fix it just in time for the Australian launch? Sounds like a publicity thing to me. People who use custom roms with gingerbread still have the reboot problems, right?

I got all the ones without oil and damaged engines and flat tires...
Or in other words an used car for the price of a new one ;-)
Is this normal phenomenal for this branch or only for this particular car.
Well after owned many, I dare to say that all engines where new and not broken...Sometimes a flat tire
I don't trust that the mechanic will fix this engine

Kernel version?
We regret having to announce that the software version expected by the end of the month - in order to solve the instability problems alleged by some customers - has been postponed for several weeks. Troubleshooting is taking longer than expected because of the systematic nature of the anomalies reported, involving only a part of owners of LG Dual Optimus. Many customers have found the solution to instability in fact known (and reset the product off the phone is charging) with the upgrade to version V10b, we recommend that in any case to make. We also recommend that you reset the product to the factory settings using the menu "Privacy" after the upgrade.
However, we are aware of the hardships that some of you are trying with our product. All resources are stretched to the limit of LG to release a best software as soon as possible, but at present we have to move the deadline for issuing the second half of June. We will do everything possible to bring forward this date. We apologize again with all of you who have given us confidence when you buy LG Dual Optimus.
More news on the software release will be released on the official media, or the Facebook fanpage "LG in the Box" and "Italy LG - Life's Good" and the official blog LGBlog.it.

Sad to hear that but fortunately I can not complain about my LG so far. Everyhing works like a charm. Had 2 androids before and this one is way better, didn't find a single problem so far. I hope to get update soon anyway, because of all other users, who have problems with their phones...
Well, once my phone froze, twice it lost GSM signal till restart, but i guess thats not so bad in 2 week run.
I was really looking forward to official 2.3, but well.. Maybe its better to have postponed upgrades and receive stable system, then having early issued gingerbread no more stable then current CM7 ^^
I spoke with LG Norway yesterday and I said I was waiting for the May update. She stopped me and told me it was coming in May or June so I guess the sad news is true Will preorder the HTC Sensation today!
If You guys think than LG support is crap go and have a read what people say about Sony Ericsson support or Samsung, and belive me or not LG is not so bad because, even if they postpone the update they said nice and clear: they are up to date and they know the problem is still hire for some people after last update, they try fix this, personally i have no problem with my phone i have 3 rebots just after update to 10d but when i perform a hard reset all back to normal, and no problem so far.

You say that but he O2X is being left behind and its one of the latest phones. All samsung phones have GB, experia arc and play have GB and most HTC have or will have shortly. LG would like to express its sincere thanks to all of the Optimus Series owners who have been waiting patiently for the Android 2.3 Gingerbread upgrade. We are excited by the high level of product interest that LG Optimus Series owners have shown, and we are taking all possible measures to offer a smooth OS upgrade in a timely manner.
The three premium smartphones of the Optimus Series will be upgraded first, as outlined below, followed by a global rollout thereafter.
LG Optimus 2X: Now available (as of 1st November, 2011) for open models in Europe
LG Optimus 3D: Week commencing November 21st for open models in Europe
LG Optimus Black: Week commencing November 28th for open models in Europe
The exact timing of the upgrades in each market may vary because of the different requirements in each country with respect to domestic operators and models. Please contact local service representatives to check the specific upgrade schedule in your market.
Again, LG greatly appreciates the support and feedback that customers have given during the upgrade delay, and we will do our utmost to continually provide better service in the future.
Thank you very much.
This is awesome news.
It is good news but theres really no mention on when the US version is getting the update. So i wouldnt get too excited seeing how we could still be waiting till next year
I am not above flashing a Euro ROM. Plus once its out it should be easy to build a more US ROM for us to flash.
Yeah I mean we will at least have the gingerbread source even if there is no US modem.
Really? Are you kidding me? We have to wait another month + for ours to get it?
IMO, unacceptable. I will probably have a new phone in my hands by then.
What LG should do is like Samsung, leak the pre-release and let us help you test it. Have a group of beta testers work out the bugs for you and please us at the same time.
Would be a win win.
I agree with you. They must leak the the beta release and we could do the fine tunning...
I'm sure this will get ported pretty fast to our device. We are running the identical hardware the only difference is the radio. This is great news. Stay positive. Yes, LG is lagging on this update but honestly no other phone configured like ours.

I'm going to ask very noob like question here, and im on the go right now otherwise I'd try to research it myself. This is my first android device, so why is 2.2 to 2.3 so special? With the existence of 3.0 out and 4.0 soon, what's so great about 2.3?
the smaller updates to android were very important. the jump between 2.2-2.3 is like the difference between iOS 3- iOS 4.

Its already about end of Q2 and there's no sign of ICS upgrade for O2x, Quick voice is a faar call.

I'm more concerned about how long LG will make us wait!!
If you check out the Official Facebook Page of LGMobile, you can see people going berserk over LG's delay, most of them are O2X and G2X holders!!
I heard LG Indonesia/Singapore (forgot which 1) confirmed ICS upgrade in Q3 can can be as late as september.
JB is about to be released and we don't yet have ICS!!
Hopefully, Quick Voice will be worth waiting for!!

JB is about to be released and we don't yet have ICS!!
Hopefully, Quick Voice will be worth waiting for!!

Can't start complaining before even trying it, can we?
On every single forum post I see announcing a new LG phone, I post that the phone will be released on GB and upgraded to ICS in 2014. Personally im never buying another LG phone so I hope they realise their strategy of not giving a **** is a bad one.

we feel you man
I will wait for the official siri like software from Google, it will for sure be more tested and accurate that any from samsung, LG, or other company. Much more users will use it so Google would be able to optimize it much more
Over here, the O2X is listed as to being updated in Q2 but Optimus Black in Q3. So maybe ics is coming after all.

What's your point? The P970 is a different phone and has a different ICS release date, they don't share the same ROM.
The OB has a TI OMAP 3630 chip while the 2x has a Tegra2 one - thus they need totally different drivers etc.
I'm pretty sure that we will get an ICS upgrade but I highly doubt that LG can keep the Q2 timeframe
Personally I would bet for ~November (which would be Q4, yes).
Anyways since last few days LG has stopped releasing further GB updates if they're working on ICS then its good, it will be wonderfull if LG releases ICS leaks along with most importantly ICS kernel sources.which could bring next one big missing theme HW accelaration!

Don't worry LG will release ICS update for O2X in Q4 (December) around christmas! It will be like Christmas gift for us !
