Xoom with Hyper V Server - Xoom Themes and Apps

Anyone got or been using an app for Win Server 2008 R2 and Hyper V Server sp1?
Looking for control and full function on vm server's (SQL and exchange 2010) as well as VDI's. Thoughts and personnal recommendations greatly received.
Sent from my MZ601 using XDA Premium App

I have been using Real VNC on my xoom to connect to our 2008 R2 server and exchange 2010. Works great, offers full control, much better than Windows RDP, Not sure about your hyper V, but logically i cannot see why that would not work either. From memory vnc port is 5900.
Also works great on my HTC Sensation. (albeit a tad small screen, but helpful when i need to fix something at a pinch when no xoom available)
Try this http://www.realvnc.com/index.html

Thanks I'll give it a look over.

Because you have to install a 3rd party application/service on a production server which won't be updated by your WSUS server automatically.
As for Hyper-V clients (or ESX/vSphere clients), I've not found any for Android yet, but XtraLogics RDP client works well on my Xoom. The only issue I have is that the VPN client on the Xoom refuses to work with the aging Cisco VPN Concentrators we have, so I can't use the Xoom for any work stuff.

The person I was replying to was saying that vnc was better, not rdp. I was asking why.
My opinion was the same as yours. I wouldn't install vnc on a production server, plus the performance of rdp is better

Perhaps i shall rephrase it.. for ME, vnc is much much better, Why?, I can make as many vnc connections (within reason) as i like without the need to purchase extra microsoft licences. Already a plus in my book, saving cash.
As for the performance of RDP being better than VNC, I guess that boils down to personal choice also. Different strokes for different folks. Not saying my views are right, I am just saying they are not wrong.

LogMeIn

Does anyone know if there is an app to work with LogMeIn.com so a way to get this service to work on android?
I know there is an iphone app for the service and it hardly seems right they get it and we don't eh.
VNC + open up a hole in your router is probably somewhat safer than tunneling your VNC traffic through a 3rd party like LogMeIn or Hamachi.
VNC is great for Mac and Linux remote viewing, but I'd really like to see an RDP client made for Android. I'd pay a decent amount of money to get one too! RDP is actually usable over EDGE whereas VNC is very much not.

LogMeIn is free... been using the free version for years. I'd love an app for my G1... I'm about to try the VNC program, but I'm pretty sure it won't be as simple as using LogMeIn...

Don't get the LogMeIn app...yet

Since this is one of the ones demoed and it's listed as a featured tablet app under the productivity section in the Market, I figured it was fine for honeycomb. Nope. Tried it and got my refund within the 15 min mark. Then sent an email to Logmein customer support.
Here's what they said:
"We are currently working diligently to make LogMeIn Ignition compatible with the most recent version of Android OS (Honeycomb). Please continue to check the Android Marketplace for application updates as the next update will provide full support for it."
Have you tried wyse pocketcloud?
probably it will be available in few days.
Not sure if logmein updated app or OTA update fixed.. But Logmein android app is working on Xoom now

Doesn't work for me either. I NEED THIS APP so badly.
i have been using the standard android app since i got the xoom a couple weeks ago...works fine

I have found pocketcloud to work great on the xoom. Plus its free. Just use tiny vnc on your computer its free and open source as well.

Im not exactly sure what made it start working for me...
I had tried many times when i first got the device, but since then i have done the following...
updated OTA update
rooted
installed busybox
using logmein ignition verision 1.2.164
hope this helps... its working great for me know... SO MUCH BETTER THAN USING ON 4.3 DX SCREEN!!
logmein ignition now has a update in market for xoom compatibility

TeamViewer
honestly, team viewer is a much better app. i used logmein for about 18 months, including both ipod touch and android versions as well.
i made the full switch to team viewer a few months ago. hard to describe why its better, it just is. I have had the same feedback from 2 die hard logmein friends as well. teamviewer is better, and the mobile app kills ignition. On top of that, they dont charge you for personal accounts, only commercial accounts do. apk is free as well.
now for the xoom, the only drawback (if you want to call it that) is that the log in makes you go portrait, but after that it almost feels like it was made for a tablet. an update would be nice, but not necessary in the slightest to get it working flawlessly.
I would be lost without a rdp client. i use it for both work and home. i use it more than i bet, most people on xda and more than anyone i know.
how could you go wrong? give it a whirl and you will not be sorry.

Looks like you can sideload it directly from the website:

Definitely interested in giving this a try. Was not happy with the $5 Splashtop Remote, and was considering dropping the $30 for LogMeIn.
Perhaps the OP should update the title of the thread to indicate that the app is worth trying now?

Pocketcloud worked well for me and it was free. Although, I decided to pay the $14.99 in order to access more than one computer. But it is free to access one ... as long as you can put up with the small ad, which was no big deal to me.

[Q] Can You Use CLIENT Certificates with Xoom Mail Client

We are thinking about getting a Xoom at the office but were curious if the honeycomb mail client can support client certificates. Can anyone confirm or deny this. I know that previous versions could not and so far secure eas is the only way we can use them other than with Touchdown.
Thanks
I have to use touchdown with mine, google sucks at the enterprise client

Exchange SSL is a server side certificate that validates the identity of the server. Client side certificates validate the identity of the client TO the server. They are different animals, this was explained to me in the MOTO forums and there is in fact like half a dozen people working on this very issue.
The short term solution is 3rd party as already mentioned.
Moto is working that or google is?

People at MOTO are working with at least one particular user in their forums.
this is a huge thorn in our side as a secure corporation
I tried the app secure eas (which works great on froyo on the incredible) but it is soooo unstable. I know that we can use touchdown, but i wish we had a free version. Just sounds as though the client certs are not even thought about... kinda rediculous.

Well if the company is that hardcore about security they can probably kick in 15 bucks for the e-mail app. That's my initial knee-jerk reaction to such a statement. To my knowledge, the MOTO team has gotten nowhere on this FWIW and the issue I'm sure goes back to the default mail client just not being up to par for it.
To be perfectly honest, it's not all that suprising to me.

Well it is a combination of two things...
1 - the company wants to be secure and because of it (like many other companies) is all Blackberry at this time.
2 - I cant stand freaking bberry devices so I am trying to get the devices to connect to exchange and in a way we can control and monitor.
With that said, how the hell can the iphone support client certs and android cant? Especially when there are like 10 mail apps out there... the only one that does... oh of course... the one you have to pay for.
I am not saying paying is out of the question, but it sure would be nice to tout that free price tag.

Well it's a misconception that any ipad app worth a **** is free, they're not... I own one.
There's also no "free" anything going on here... you bought an $800 Xoom to get around using your companies crappy blackberrys and I would do the same lol. for less than 5% of the total purchase you can complete the experience. Just do it and get it over with lol.

2X VS Wyse Pocketcloud

I am a network administrator for a IT company and am looking for a good RDP client for my Xoom. I am trying to use both 2X which is a free RDP client and the free version of Wyse Pocketcloud. I dont mind paying for a good RDP client but I dont want to pay for something and then find out that its not for me.
I mostly use RDP to remote into our servers but occasionally the thought has came across my mind on how cool it would be to also be able to run use the Citrix Xenserver and our VMware View clients from the tablet.
I have been reluctant to dive into a decent RDP client because of the Xooms server certificate problems.
I would love to be able to Manage our VM's from the xoom but VMware hasnt came out with a app for android yet. Kinda a bummer... The Ipad app for managing vm's is awesome. Just wish companies would support android more.
Now that I am done with that small rant. What are yours guy's thoughts?
Team Viewer is a good solution for me. I prefer it above LogMeIn Ignition. You can actually control the mouse function instead of having a stationary mouse and you just move the screen into position to get in place to click the mouse.
Wyse is amazing and simple on the xoom ... worked well on nexus one and atrix as well.

has anyone here tried 2x? I guess what I liked about them is that it automaticly adjusts the resolution to the xoom.
I know you can change the resolution on wyse but anything more than 800x600 you end up having to scroll around. Even on the xoom.
I use pocket cloud and LOVE it works great
Pocketcloud is the way to go. Great thing is, it does vmware view and vnc as well.

I have to guess that you are using the free version because the paid app is more flexible and I get full screen.
I use pocketcloud for remote access. We also purchased a site license for vnc which isn't cheap and I use vnc to control any of the 172 computers throughout my sites. I remember the days of idokorro and still use it to manage my servers can manipulate active directory and god knows how many other options from my xoom. Reminds me of NCIS Los Angeles when the guy carries around the tablet to retrieve information. Wish my company would have bought it for me though.

Splashtop remote
Just wanted to say I've tried out splashtop, and found it better for my usage.
It's not the usual vnc-kind of thing, but instead streaming video of your desktop instantly. It works great. I tried the trial first.
Pro:
-feels like realtime streaming of video and or audio from the remote machine. I can play videos and spotify. Framerate is in the 25-30 area i guess. Feels really smooth and not choppy like most VNC stuff.
Minus:
-Don't quite know.. depends what your use is.
-Can't connect to standard vnc or rdp server of course...
I haven't checked out all the features yet, but it's kind of limited when it comes to resolution. Runs on 1024x768 by default and switches your remote screen to that res when you connect. Didn't bother me as much after actually using it a bit. Would probably not be possible to video/audio stream my 1920x1200 desktop anyways

I bought and use Splash Top also.
The only cons are that you have to manipulate your speaker setup before/after using it if you have anything other than a standard 2 peice speaker setup. I have a 5.1 speaker setup and in order for me to pipe sound I have to change it beforehand. Additionally the nonstandard-to-the-Xoom resolution is annoying. Splashtop support says that 1280x752 is coming though, which will make it a very nice alternative to Pocket Cloud when you want to stream video/audo/games.

I've also bought SplashTop... but for me, the REALLY annoys me is the resolution change in my Desktop... it messes with the size of all my windows (not to include position)... I don't mind it a little less responsible (in this area, it actually is very responsive), if it don't mess with my 1080p desktop...

in a tablet, with no menu hardware key, I find it actually very smart. (Also, usually you can disable it too IIRC)
