[Q] Phone Won't Start UP!? HELP Plz. - Hero CDMA Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So i was monkeyin' with some new roms and i accidentally formatted sd card :/ lost everything. so i took my sd card out and put it back in my laptop, got everything i needed back on but my phone will not boot up. i can get it into recovery but then it will not mount my sd card....just want my phone back
-btw when i try to start, it turns on but just gets stuck at the HTC boot screen.

Wipe the SD, do not put in computer, format SD in recovery. Boot. Then reinstall the missing components mounted from recovery, reboot.
BANG! from my shooter...

Put the RUU zip file on tbs SD card and from hboot u can unroot it in a few minutes.
Then go ahead and reroot it again ...
But if u have ROM backups from ur phone in ur computer then put those on ur SD card, then from recovery just factory reset and then restore to whatever ROM u choose.

Try Booting your phone Without your Sdcard! That Worked for me once when I had a Similar issue!
If you Still have a Problem, Copy Everything onto your Laptop Again, then Delete Your Sdcard Again!
Next Try putting the Sdcard back into the phone Blank!
If it Still does Nothing, Try Copying the ClockWorkMod file back to your phone!
*Note*
Il Duces advice is Also Another route that'll Probably Work!
Good Luck!

Do this since you already have an backup of your data. Remove the card from your phone after you power off. Then format it threw your pc and restore factory defaults.. Then place it back into your phone and format it threw your recovery. Partition as follow
No swap
No ext2,3 or 4
Let the whole sd be fat/system.
Then put it back into your pc and place all of your data back on it. Then do a full wipe as in data, cache, davlik -cache and sd ext.
The flash your choice of rom & gapps and try to boot. Hoe this helps

[Q] Switching SD Cards NO Apps2SD

Hi, I have a G1 rooted with the SuperD 1.9.3 Rom, I never partitioned my SD card or anything like that. I want to upgrade my SD Card and partition it to get Apps2SD and keep the same Rom. I am not sure what steps to take...

Which recovery do you have? If you don't yet, make sure to upgrade to Amon_Ra latest. Once you have that, reboot into recovery, select partition card and follow directions on screen. This will wipe your card completely so backup anything you want to save. It will not affect your rom in any way. You may have to move your existing apps manually, not sure.
How do i know what recovery i have? Do I partition my current sd card or the new one?
So I do not need to reflash the Super D?

You would boot into recovery and look to see which one you have, it will say it right on top. You will partition your new card. Absolutely no need to reflash your rom, it will recognize your ext partition and install all future apps in it automatically. As I said, I'm not sure about existing apps, you may need to move them manually.
It says Android Sysem Recovery Utility Build: JFv1.42 There is nothing that says Partition SD or anything like that... Now my rom is on my current sd card if I don't flash it to the new one my phone still knows what rom I have? Sorry about all the questions thanks for your help =)
I was thinking of doing this to install Amon RA's recovery img
I got it from another forum in here....
Copy recovery-RA-dream-v1.7.0.img to the root of your sdcard
Boot into your current custom recovery (boot while holding HOME)
select console from the menu
#mount -a (this can give back an error if you don't have an ext partition, don't worry about it and just proceed)
#flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery-RA-dream-v1.7.0.img
JF's recovery does not have that option because it's really, really, really old. We did not even have apps to sd back then.
Flash RA's recovery (directions seem right, I assume you got them out of RA's thread), you'll see the difference: many more options, etc
Good luck.
Ok, so I am going to do the following steps....
1. Flash Amon Ra's recovery image
2. Reboot phone
3. Get into recovery again
4. Back up my sd card on the computer, remove sd card from phone
5. Insert new sd card, partition sd card
6. Transfer files from old sd card including update.zip which is the rom
7. Reboot phone
Let me know if I'm missing something thanks for all your help!
I'm going to do this over the weekend...
Ok, so I got the new Amon RA recovery image but haven't done anything else...lol. So can you tell me if those steps are right? And why don't I need to flash the rom again...I currently have it on my sd card...I'm a bit confused
1. Reboot to recovery. Partition your card (I suggest 512mb for ext partition, rest is fat, follow instructions within recovery).
2. Upgrade ext to ext3.
3. Reboot (your phone will move your existing apps onto sd.) It may take a while to fully boot, just give it 10 min or so.
4. In terminal emulator type
Code:
su
fix_permissions
5. Reboot again.
5. Transfer whatever you had on your old sdcard (music, pics, etc) onto your new card.
As far as flashing the rom again.... why? Your OP says you want to keep your existing rom.
To check if your apps were moved:
In terminal:
Code:
su
ls /system/sd/app
ls /system/sd/app-private
ls /system/sd/dalvik-cache
Should give you print-out of what you have on ext partition of your sdcard (or you can use root explorer or whatever other file manager, I'm a bit old shool so I prefer terminal or adb)
5. Reboot again.
5. Transfer whatever you had on your old sdcard (music, pics, etc) onto your new card.
Okay in step 5. Reboot again do I just type in the terminal emulator reboot or reboot recovery?
Also when you say "transfer whatever you had on your old card..." Do I also transfer the file that says update.zip?
Sorry for all the questions, I should be getting my new sd card today and will try it out tonight.
Thank you.
You just type reboot.
It is up to you what you want to transfer onto your new card. I assume that update.zip is your current rom. If so, it's nice to have just in case but it will not make any difference in how the phone works. It's just an install file that you use once (unless, of course something goes terribly wrong and we all have been there ) but it's nice to have all tools needed on your card so you can quickly recover from any problems.)
BTW, with your new shiny recovery (RA1.7), you don't have to rename your files to update.zip. You can name them whatever you want (i.e Super-D1.9.3.zip, Recovery.zip) and, if you decide to reflash something, at least you will know what it is. Your new recovery will let you choose which file to flash so you can have more then one .zip file on your card if you want.
Ok so I still haven't gotten my new card! It should be here next week...Anyways I tried using switchrom to store my current just in case but I get this error Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p1 (or /dev/block/mmcblk0) (No such file or directory)
Any clues why I'm getting this do I need to have my phone connected by USB or something to a computer....?
Thanks hopefully I'll stop asking so many questions...I tried this solution but no luck

problem :
"E:Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p1 (or /dev/block/mmcblk0) (No such file or directory)"
In the Android System Recovery, select "USB-MS Toggle". It will enabled/disable the feature. Do it one more round and it will solve the problem.
It's telling you that it can't mount SD card.
Back up all of your stuff from SD card, format it and try again, that's the only thing I can think of.
Actually, I just ended up doing a Nandroid Backup just did Nandroid not Nandroid +ext since I don't have this card partitioned...it is backed up!
Ok buddy its easier if you do the whole process through the sdcard
First you should backup everything on your sdcard and do a BART or NAN+EXT then partion your card and restore your BART or NAN+EXT and your good to go
If this does not work press my name and look at my threads because I ask this same quetion a while ago
Post again if this does not work

Hi, I tried doing a Nan+ext backup but I got this error : Run nandroid-mobile.sh via console I also tried doing a Bart backup and it also said Run Bart via console...
So I just did a regular Nan Backup...I don't have my current sd card partitioned...should I partition it so I can do the Nan+ext I currently have a 2gb card and it doesn't have a class number.... Maybe I should format my card?
Thanks!
Ohh ok I see ur problem it won't let u backup nand+ext if you don't have a ext
since you backed up already go ahead and throw the nandriod and any other files on sd card to your pc the format your sd create the app partion and swap partion make sure u formate it ext3 or ext4 depending on what ur rom uses put the nandroid back on sd after format and restore post if it works or not
If this don't work just reverse the process put nad back on pc format card to what is was before then put nand back on sd and restore

OK so I partitioned my current memory card =) and was able to succesfully do a nandroid +ext...so now when I get my new card I just have to go into recovery and do a nandroid restore and transfer all my files right? Thanks
Remember to partion your sdcard before transfer

Ok so I tried switching my cards and formatted my new card, paritioned it, transfered the files from my other sd card, and tried to a nandroid restore...that's when I get the same error as before to do it from console.
I tried taking all the files out and repartitioning the sd card doing everything again no luck. Reflashed my rom and turned it on after it boots like normal I get a black screen. So just went back to my old sd card was getting force closes so did nandroid restore it said it did but would boot normal and get force closes.
So I reflashed my rom and reinstalled everything manually...from sd card as my market disappeared got it back after reinstalled it...
Any suggestions as I really want a bigger capacity memory card....=/

how to mount ext4 /data from CWM recovery?

I have a Galaxy S GT i9000 and I managed to install CWM Recovery 2.5.1.0 on it after I accidentally selected backup (to internal sd)..
I want to get the data off the internal SD but miui won't boot. I have EXT4 filesystem.
if I try boot it never gets past samsung logo.
I havn't been able to use my phone for a month now because of this problem.
I didn't want to try fix it straight away when it broke incase I did something to lose all my data..
I was getting major FC's on everything i opened, it wasn't bad at first, but than FC's came more and more regularly, until I can't open any apps.
than the phone would boot loop after boot animation. now after trying to backup the internal SD, I accidentally backed up to internal SD. phone won't boot.
this happened at my god father's funeral "after meeting". I was using phone and suddenly it doesn't work.
I recorded very important video from god father's funeral i promised to make video for god fathers wife.
I really need my data and at least want to be able to mount ext4 from CWM recovery to copy data to windows. or somehow reinstall MIUI without wiping /data.
I thank you in advanced for your help.
I looked for a month and couldn't find anything.
There are 2 things I can think of,
1. Use ADB to pull from sd card, I'm not sure if you need to be in recovery or download mode, check it out.
2. When you format you phone you don't delete your sd card so it should all be saved. You will loose all you apps etc but not your data.
If you want to save the exact format you phone is in, try flash the rom again. If its through odin then you will factory reset. (Again you wont loose your internal sd card contents).
I've managed to get my data back now thank you for the suggestions

Help I cannot log into my phone

Hello,
So I was trying to install ICS on my nexus one... and like the idiot I am I made a NANDROID backup of my phone right before continuing with the installation of BlackRose. I made a partition of my SD card in Clockwork Recovery. With 1GB and a 256mb swap.
I rebooted the phone and see that my SD card is empty. Which probably meant my NANDROID backup was erased?
Is there a way I could recover this??? I just want my SD card data back .
And like a bigger idiot, I went back into Clockwork Recovery and did a factory wipe, (I thought I still had my nandroid backups), I tried to restore, but there was nothing in the SD card.
My main problem is that I want to restore my phone back to what it was... before I partitioned the SD card.
Right now I have a phone that is completely wiped and I cannot restart it because the setupwizard is bugged and force closes when I try to skip plus I don't have a system keyboard installed or a system launcher.
Stop using your sdcard for writing data and try this while the sdcard is connected via a card reader.
www.easeus.com/partition-recovery/
While you're at it, drop the SWAP partition. A waste of perfectly usable 256MB. You can find plenty of places where it's explained, why SWAP is a bad idea for Android.
Hey Jack_R1
How do I delete the partition?

partition sd card in recovery 0Mb for swap
while your at it hit THANKS for the guys on TOP ^_^
I've recovered the nandroid backup files.
My microsd card is completely empty.
Where do I go from here to restore the backup?
Do I make a folder in the root as clockworkmod/backup/ and put the files in there?
I've tried that and i keep get Md5 mismatch! Error.

[Q] Very strange problem with i9000

Have recently purshased a used galaxy s wich have a very strange problem: it stucks on the Galaxy S boot animation.
I have tried several full wipe stock roms with the usual wipe data, wipe cache, dalkik... before and after flashing. Have also tried several kernels (speedmode, semaphore ...) without success. The animated S is there for hours....
I can go to download mode and recovery mode without problems..
What i noticed are 2 things :
1) When flashing froyo stock firmware the boot animation is displayed and it's music is played normally till the animated S...and stuck there.
When flashing a Gingerbread JVU stock firmware the animation hangs at the first frame and resume after about 30 seconds to the end (the animated S)
When flashing ics rom i get, after the boot animation, the unencrypted message....
2) In recovery mode i can access the internal sd card (by mounting the usb storage in cwm) but cannot erase any file ? Actually the deletion process is achieved normally but after rebooting and reconnecting the pc all my files are still there.
I have also tried to delete the sdcard files by using the ADB rm command: files are deleted BUT after rebooting they are still here.
I have spent 3 days trying to fix my phone without success.
Do you think my galaxy s is hard bricked
Help me please and sorry for my bad english.
Don't think youi are bricked. Suggest at the least you need to flash a new ROM over whats on the phone (can be the same one or a newer one).
If it wer my phone I would be upgrading to CM10 - Jelly Bean. Go to the deveplopment forum and find out how to get from where you are to Jelly Bean. If you follow the steps it is not very hard. Good luck.
I had the same problem with mine. Don't give up, just keep up trying to flash a Rom. Can you put files on your Sdcard with the Recovery? If yes, you can try to a ROM like Cyanogenmod. If no, i would download a 3 files rom (samifirmware) and flash it with odin. If it's still stuck after the flash with Odin go to the recovery and do a Full Wipe.
Hope something works for you Sry for my bad english P

Have already copied Cyanogenmod zip file to an external sd card (can't copy to the internal..) and flashed it succesfully BUT the problem remains : the phone stuck in the animated logo (S).
Have moreover flashed several 3 files ROM with ODIN (including and excluding PIT 512) and made full wipe with the recovery BUT still the same problem.

If you have CWM format everything except bootloader at least 5 times or more before you attempt to flash a JVU with 512 PIT and repartitioned plus update boot loader ticked
But First powerdown, pull out Battery, SIM CARD, and EXT.SD card, press power button for a minute, than powerup without SIM and Ext.SD Card, after flashing and reboot , insert them back
Tips before Flashing:-
Backup all your important files, contacts, SMS, game data, images etc to PC or Ext SD card. or make Nanadroid Backup If you have CWM
Backup your EFS Folder to PC or Ext SD card
Enable USB Debugging on Phone. Touch menu> Settings> Applications> Development>
Charge your battery to more than 50% before you attempt any sort of flashing.
Disable Samsung KIES when using Odin. Kill Kies.exe, KiesTrayAgent.exe, & KiesPDLR.exe using Task Manager on PC
Use only ROM and solution for your model and Wipe x3

Ok. I think that it is time to give up : I have connected it to my PC and tried a full FAT32 format of the sdcard and at 90% progress i got this windows notice : "Cannot complete the formatting process. sd card unreadable and corrupted". So for me it is now clear : my sd card is dead...
Nevertheless i will put an external sd card and try to install firmware on it... If someone knows how, please advice.

OK. Finally solved.
What i did is extracting initramfs , replacing mmcblk 0 strings by mmcblk1 and repacking the kernel. works like a charm with froyo but not withGB.

[Q] Formatted everything, don't know where to start

I had some huge problem with my Nexus One and I wanted to start over completely, so I stupidly went to CWM recovery and hit format boot, cache, data, sdcard, system, and sd-ext. For some reason I didn't realize this would make my phone unusable and make it have no OS. So now when I turn on the phone it goes straight to the fastboot menu, so I can only access the fastboot, bootloader, and CWM recovery.
I've tried formatting my microSD card and putting a stock PASSIMG.zip file (located at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1312540) on my microSD card but the bootloader doesn't detect the PASSIMG.zip file.
Can anyone give any guidance on what I can do now?
Thanks
FIXED. This seems to happen to me so often-- things suddenly working after I already make a thread about my problems. But I discovered that the microSD card was corrupt so that's why it never actually had the PASSIMG.zip file on it. Everything is back to normal, and I restored factory settings :good:
