So if I buy a cheap dongle will it just plug and play like that?

Not quite...
With all the due respect to your expertise please note:
The mobostick is a fundamentally different device in that it allows complete mobility and functionality. Simply put, you put it in your pocket and can turn ANY USB equipped playback device (anywhere - at your friend's place, in your car or at a boardroom without carrying your TV on your back from home), to a client to your Android smartphone or tablet. No DLNA devices dependencies on full compatibility...
Additionally, you do not need a router either. All you do is turn on your Access Point on your smartphone or Tablet and you have instant connection in the absence of a wifi router....
Also it is not restricted to just media files. It has simplified sharing which allows you to copy wirelessly files from your device and also beam ANY document to a playback device (presentations, spreadsheets etc...).
As you can see, there is no similarities and no restrictions - therefore there are no comparisons... Apples - Oranges or better, Apple - Android....

Can you walk into a friend's place who does not have a Wifi router, , or your car, turn on your Access Point on your device, and playback anything you want in a heterogeneous environment?
In contrast, you plug the mobostick to any USB equipped playback device and share ALL the files you wish from your phone or tablet, anywhere.....

Hi tech - especially Gen1 devices - have a certain cost to bring to market. Having said that though, when you think that sometimes we shell-out $30 and $40 for a set of hi-end cables for connectivity, it seems inexpensive to spend an additional $20 bucks on a mobostick and have all the wireless connectivity we want, anywhere, and without cables to trip over... Of course, we all have our own budgetary restrictions and it is all a matter of convenience and application.
On another note, you seem to be very well informed as to what is out there that is worth noting...

Guys... you are all smurfs
Mobistick is a super gadget.. you dont know what are you talking about.
You can stream WITHOUT a router or wifi hot spot or anything. It is just connecting your android device without cables to your media player or any capable device that have a USB host and if this device can plays 1080p then you can stream 1080p without the phone to render or decode anything. You can play your game or make calls the same time while someone wathcing a 1080p movie from the storage of your phone.

Hi,
I want to know if there is a way that I can see my nexus one on the TV. Or if not that, atleast show videos like from YouTube. I can only play audio.
Please help me. My TV has no USB port, but I have a USB thingy connected to my TV through HDMI.

Remote control your Nexus from your PC, and connect your PC to the TV.
But then why would you need Nexus...
I'm afraid it's not possible... the only thing you could do is this.
afaik, the only device through which you can do something like that is desire HD, since it features a mini-HDMI port.
You can't connect it the conventional way, since there's no HDMI port...but you could try through the USB cables
Btw, the Desire HD does not have a HDMI port, but the Evo 4G does.

There is no way to do HDMI mirroring without HDMI support built into the phones hardware, and unfortunately, the N1 lacks any ability to output video to anywhere other than the display on the phone.
What behelit was talking about is using a DLNA server on your device, which will allow you to have your music, videos, and pictures available for people to view over your local network with any DLNA compatible device. All while being wireless. Many newer Samsung and Sony TVs support this, along with a lot of their BluRay players (including other manufacturers) along with the PS3 and the XBox 360. Essentially it works like a dvd player where you will have menus and can pause and rewind and all that fun stuff.
I believe the usb host thread has examples of people using an external monitor, but I don't think the usb output is HDMI...
The USB host thread has people using external USB2HDMI adapter, which gets the output sent for it by the device driver in the OS.
No way to do anything like it without modifying the OS to have USB host capability to begin with. Or building a special external USB host and drivers.

Yes I use TV Shows stream as well and its quite awesome although a tad expensive but at least its only a one time fee. Definitely give it a look. Tons of shows to choose from. I use it every day on my tab both with and without my HDMI dock.

The tv shows stream app is amazing. The quality of the videos varies but the sheer amount of shows available makes up for it.

DRM in the hardware. The LG Revolution will have NetFlix which supports said DRM. We have the same processor as that phone so hopefully NetFlix adds support for the Thunderbolt.

As far as I know the leaked netflix app that was announced a few weeks ago doesn't work on the Tbolt.
Oh well. There isn't any other app that I am aware of and I've been an Android girl for over a year now.. So I think you might be out of luck. There is a website though that is java enabled that I use to be able to watch movies through my phone. Hope that eases a bit of the frustration Netflix is causing by not providing an app yet for us
The website name is veetle dot com & I also love LOVE the TV Stream app. That works wonders for me. Hope this helps

Correct, it doesn't work on the TB right now... But it doesn't work on any other phone either at this moment. That's because it is assumed that Netflix hasn't yet "flipped the switch" to turn it on since it's not yet ready for primetime (the .apk itself was prematurely pulled from an upcoming LG ROM dump) and has not yet been 'officially' released from Netflix.
The Bolt has the same processor as the upcoming LG device that is confirmed to support Netflix. As such, it is presumed that the Bolt has the same DRM keys to allow for streaming. It's just a matter of Netflix enabling streaming to the app on their end
From what I understand from one of our reps, is that there is a going to be a netflix streaming app working on Verizon soon, they are waiting for a specific phone to launch it.
can't wait!
So do we know maybe an ETA on when we can expect to see it go live?

I might actually restart my netflix service when this comes live. Might not be so bad watching movies on this screen. My Inc was just a little too small to really enjoy.
How can I best utilize the HDMI Mirror functionality on the phone? I have it working on a Sprint Evo using FullHDMI, but this app doesn't appear to like the Revolution?
Anyone else have it working? If so, how did you get there?

At this point, your phone could have a bad micro HDMI port. I'd have it replaced with a new one. But if you feel like its not your phone then take your phone and your HDMI cable to best buy (or any store that sells Televisions) and ask a representitive that you want to test it out before you buy it (the TV ofcourse).
Most reps will let you hook in your HDMI device without causing much fuss.
If your phone works then its your TV.
If it doesn't then you can get another HDMI cable to test out (or find someone who has a micro HDMI phone and test their phone).
If it works on the second cable then problem solved.
If it worked on someone elses device then your phone has hardware issues.

Rooting your phone voids your warranty, so I'm pretty sure Verizon will check for that when they receive your old phone. They will probably charge you the retail price for the replacement phone they sent you.

I think most of the replies leading to where to get an lcd and hdmi support is kinda deviating from the op's principle inquiry and purpose.
As far as some constructive help, the only thing that I could think of is possibly taking advantage of the usb host feature and trying to find a way for a form of vga/dvi/display port conversion to usb. Then there is still the issue of whether you could get the tablet to use that in put from the usb host as a full screen display.
Its not a straight how-to or answer, but a good place to start looking for a solution.
Best of luck.
Way too much trouble to go through. Get yourself an IPS monitor, they are cheap now. TN panel monitors are so ridiculously cheap too.
Hi, I want the same thing too. We could simply use remote control apps through WiFi but it would be much of a hassle since we only need a display.
There are even apps that enables using the device as a second monitor.. there must be a solution via WiFi network

What kind of quality are you guys getting with Chromecast? I was considering buying one so that I don't need to keep taking videos from my phone to my laptop to play on the TV, but I'm a little hesitant with devices like this because of a very, very bad experience with Apple TV.
I've been using AllCast with my Roku3 and it's awesome. I'm assuming it is the same concept. I'll have to check out Avia.
This is basically the whole reason I bought a Chromecast was for when I travel, I can just plug in the Chromecast and send movies to the in-room TV along with Netflix and such. I'm tired of watching movies and shows that I pay for on a 7" screen when there is a 42" TV just 10' away. Glad that I can finally start using it now that development is picking up.
All I need is:
Netflix
Hulu
Play videos off my mobile

Well, then, if it plays HBO Go that well, I wouldn't imagine it'll have any issues with Netflix or a video on the device itself.
Thanks

On-device is subject to Chromecast's format restrictions.
Remember that HBO GO, YouTube, Netflix, etc already have and serve their content in Chromecast-compatible format.

I've been using AllCast with my Roku3 and it's awesome. I'm assuming it is the same concept. I'll have to check out Avia.
I can just plug in the Chromecast and send movies to the in-room TV along with Netflix and such.

Well it may not be quite as easy as all that depending on the Hotel and how they have their network AUTH set up.
Many set up AP Isolation so two devices on the network can't talk to each other....
In some cases it will require Certificate Auth (such as going to a web browser first) which is not going to be very conducive to connecting the Chromecast.
Miracast makes a direct connection but that might preclude you from connecting to the Hotel AP for content on the Web...
Just a forewarning...
