[Q] Hero frozen at clearstorage screen - Hero CDMA Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm running Cyanogen 7.01 and after my phone crashed yesterday, it is now stuck on the white clearstorage screen every time I turn it on (the one with three skateboarding androids).
I've tried lots of things to get to a point where I can install a new ROM (I have my stuff backed up) and wipe this old one. But, no dice. Here is what I've done:
1) The clearstorage screen asks if I want to delete user data. If I select no, the screen turns off and then takes me back to the clearstorage screen. If I select yes, it reads "Clear..." then quickly flashes "Press MENU to restart" before rebooting into the clearstorage screen again. If I hold the menu button down while the screen reads "Clear..." the phone boots into the HTC screen indefinitely (I waited 45 min).
2) I tried getting into the bootloader screen (Volume down key and power). Took me to the clearstorage screen.
3) I tried getting into Fastboot. Took me to the clearstorage screen.
4) Holding the key combo for a hard reset takes me to the clearstorage screen.
5) Holding the key combo for a factory reset me to the clearstorage screen.
6) I tried pulling out the SD card during boot and while in the clearstorage screen. No dice.
So, I'm not sure what my other options are. I can't get to the phone via my computer's command line since my computer can't detect my phone when it's in this state.
Thanks so much for reading this and for any help you can offer.

I thought the 3 skateboarding androids was the boot screen? What does it say on the screen? If it shows that if you hit "home" button it will take you to recovery. It should say H-boot on there I believe.
If it does, press the home button and not the menu button, and that should take you into recovery where you can wipe everything and restore your nandroid or install a new rom.

Or power off, then hold home press power. Recovery?
BANG! from my shooter...

Kudos to both of you guys for the responses.
I've actually been able to get to recovery by (duh) holding the home and power key down until I get the recovery screen.
However, after wiping the user data, cache, and davlik cache and installing a new ROM rebooting, I still get back the clearstorage screen.
I've tried to install a few different RUUs from the recovery screen and I get a message along the lines of "[RUU file] is bad. Cannot install"
It's most bizarre.
At this point I've got my data backed up to my computer and will do whatever to unbrick this phone.
Thanks again for all your help!

What recovery are you using? If it's clockwork, go into mounts and storage and format system, boot, cache, data 3x each. Yes, I said 3x. Then, try and flash something besides an ruu. Many of those are to use as a HERCIMG.zip, not to flash in recovery. Judd you want to go to a sense 2.1 rom, try an nfx one or something ( at least to see of it works and you can update prl and other things too. Or, reinstall another gb Rom. I don't know I'd you are trying to get back to stock to take back or something. I say, get it working, then look for a flashable ruu from recovery.

This is an executable HTC RUU that is to be run from your PC. Hook your phone up via the USB. Then double click the RUU on your PC. Follow the instructions. It will set your phone back to 2.27.651.6 and will be unrooted.

also, this may seem stupid, but if you were going from aosp to sense or vice versa, reflash your recovery first.

[Q] Only 'X' is being displayed and then reboot help please.

was using my nexus one as i was switched it off removed the sim card from this phone placed it in another phone... left my nexus one on charge and turned it on left the room when i got the vibrate didnt even saw wether it was completly on or not... came back home saw the phone off... tried to turn it on but it wouldnt.... then connected the charger to the phone then turned it on and it shows a X and a unlocked sign at the bottom stays for a while and then the screen gets black and the same thing happens over and over again
Its going in a reboot loop I think.
Try going into the bootloader by pressing the trackball and power button together.
and then enter bootloader and then recovery.
In the recovery select reboot.
Btw do you have a nandroid backup?
I do have a backup lying around somewhere but i'm not sure of that. And i tried that boot loader thing but when i go to that menu as soon as i press the volume - button the phone boots off again
did you try the 3 finger:
pwr/vol-/trkball at same time may take up to 20 seconds to boot into bootloader
or, may need to use fastboot from command terminal and flash new recovery/rom like passimg to go back to stock then upgrade from there
pass image method is in wiki
Try this:
- Press the power button and the trackball together
- Select Bootloader and then Recovery
- Flash a different ROM (Stock\CM\MIUI\or try flashing again your current rom)
- If it doesn't work, flash a new rom AND wipe data and cache

[Q] Help!!! Bricked my phone!!!

So I Have a rooted CDMA HTC Hero rooted with WildHeroC RC4. I was cleaning my phones memory up and decided to get rid of some apps. Then I decided to replace the HTC Sense home screen with a windows home screen just to have something different. I backed up the last set up I had using clockwork mod. When I went to uninstall the HTC Sense home screen I used titanium backup pro. When I pressed one of the options to (i think it said) "permanently remove or uninstall" the Sense home screen the hero went into some recovery thing showing a box with an android next to it and an arrow coming out. There is a yellow progress bar at the bottom that gets to about 1/4 the way finished and then starts over completely and does this repeatedly. I tried taking the battery out and putting it back in and then press the power and down volume but it just goes back to the same screen. What happened and can I fix it???? Please help!!!!
Ok first off YOUR PHONE IS NOT BRICKED. If your phone was bricked then it would not come on at all. If your phone turns on It's not bricked. Now do you have a nandroid back up ?? Also what recovery were you using ??? And do you have adb setup ??
#Root-Hack_Mod*Always\
I don't think I have a nandroid backup. And I was using clockwork mods recovery or at least the default one that comes with it. I think I do have adb set up. What do I do? Please Help!!!

You should definitely check to see if you have a nandroid backup stored some were it will help you with your current issue. Also when you refer to the default cwm did you mean that you downloaded rom manger and flashed a recovery??? And are you s-off or s-on ??? Also do you have adb set up ?? And are you able to boot into hboot?? You do this by
Powering off the phone.
Then press and hold the volume up key.
Then tap/press the power button.
You will see a white screen. That's your hboot screen. To get you back up and running you can find a HERCIMG.zip of cwm recovery or Ra's recovery, drop it on the root of your sd "as in not in any folders" and flash it threw hboot if your s-off. If not then you can look here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=958968
For how to flash using fastboot with s-on. Or if you have adb setup you can search for the recovery.img of cwm or Ra and flash them threw adb. Once you have your recovery back you can perform a full system wipe by wiping
cache,davlik-cache, and data/factory reset. Then either restore your nandroid or flash your rom of choice. I think your recovery is screwed up and also your rom I'm thinking is screwed up as well. If you can't find the recovery zips or img's let me know. Hope this helps.

I think I have S-off. I also think I have a Nandroid backup (I backed up my rom and all my apps and data using rom manager)- is that nandroid backup? When I press the power and down volume button it goes right back to the loading bar and NOT to the menu. I can not boot into hboot. As for the recovery I did load it from Rom Manager. So what do I do. I have adb loaded.
You have to boot into hboot to find out I'd you have s-off. Via my post above. What happens when you try to boot into hboot??? Also have you tried holding the power and home button at the same time for at least 15 seconds to see if you can boot into your current recovery?? I forgot to ask you that in my other post. Also no that's not a nandroid however I believe you can restore that zip if its a zip that rom manger made with cwm.

I have tried holding down the home and power button but it does the same thing. It will not let me boot into hboot. It goes strait to the screen showing a white box with an arrow coming out of it and a android standing next to it. There's a loading bar at the bottom that keeps loading up to 1/4th then goes back to the beginning and it does that over and over again.
That's not how you boot into hboot. That's for recovery. To boot into hboot do this.
Power the phone off.
Press and hold the volume up button.
Then tap/press the power button.
Just tap the power button don't hold it.
Only hold the the volume up button. Then you should boot into hboot.

I did what you said (Hold up volume and pressed (not hold) the power button) and it still does not go through hboot.
What happenes ??

It shows the HTC screen for a few seconds and then It goes strait to the screen showing a white box with an arrow coming out of it and a android standing next to it. Update Issue, Urgent.

I have an HTC One and I love it. I am running Android 4.1.2 and cant update to 4.2.2. Whenever I download the update, the phone restarts and gets stuck at around 25%-30%. It reboots when I keep the power button pressed. It automatically tries to install again but this time it shows a red exclamation mark in a triangle when it gets stuck. I reboot it and it boots back to android 4.1.2. Any help would be deeply appreciated.
PS. My phone is bare bones stock. No root, no unlocked bootloader.
OK
first save your important stuff to the pc then
Do a factory reset from the recovery menu (power + volume up hold whilst on the red exclamation mark screen) and then redownloaded the update
If you do the factory reset from the setting option the update will still fail

This isn't my first HTC One, its my second. On the first one, I accidentally Reset it from the recovery and it wiped Android. I'm scared to do so. Are you sure it'll work?
Thank you so much for replying!
A Factory reset is just that, it should reboot in the Rom on the phone but just with stock boot settings for the rom
A factory reset resets it to the state in which it left the factory, hence the name.
I knew that it sounded stupid, but my first HTC One died because I used that. It wouldn't boot. Was it because I was rooted?

I reset from bootloader. It didn't work, it still doesn't update. Does it have to be when the red exclamationmark is on the screen?
if you have some applications disabled, you should reset app preferences an try again

I haven't disabled any applications. My phone seems to stop the installation process after about 20%-30%.

45 minutes still no boot.

Wiped data cache AND dalvik, flashed to Malladus, installed GApps and LGApps at the same time. Been sitting at the android animation for at least 45 minutes all three times and still wont boot. I'm downloading stock image but was hoping someone had an experience similar and had an easy solution?

And now I offically think my phone is screwed. I cant boot into recovery, every time I try it wont enter and just reboots because I'm holding the power and volume down buttons. So far I don't think I can enter download mode either.

How to get into TWRP with hardware keys on G2
1. Make sure phone is completely powered down.
2. Press and hold the Volume down button and the Power button.
3. When the LG logo is displayed release the Power button only then immediately press and hold the Power button again.
4. Release both buttons when the Factory Hard Reset screen displays.
5. Press the power button three times, like it says. Even though it says it will delete everything, it won't (I can confirm that if you are at least on v2.6.3.2).
6. After a "factory reset processing" appears, you should get the TWRP flash screen, and you are good to go.

Thanks for replying. I've read how to get into the recovery menu many times. Something is wrong with my phone that prevents me from doing it. I'm assuming its hardware related. I was almost ready to give up yesterday when I found out that if I do the key combo while plugging it into USB, it enters the menu normally. At that point I was able to restore my backup and start again.
I think my phone has a fluke, but I've figured out a way around it.
For those who are using Malladus on Verizon, something was wrong with the radios in the set. I had to find a seperate KK baseband file for the VS980 and flash it over top of the ROM to get it to work. I'm not saying its the same results for everyone, but I tried every variant of his directions (just in case) and was unable to get LTE online. It was the seperate BB file later on that fixed it.

Nook HD recovery black screen

I was attempting to install a ROM, and CWM gave me several errors about not being able to mount partitions. So, I rebooted and went into "mounts and storage", mounted the partitions, and tried again. This time, it got to about 100% and then crashed.
When I rebooted into CWM, I got a bunch of errors about not being able to locate files, and I couldn't access any menus. So, I shut it down.
Now, when I boot it up, it goes to the Cyanoboot screen and then powers off. When I try to boot into recovery, it just gives me a black screen.

try a hard factory reset and then once you are sure its working fine
you can install another o/s and maybe use a different sd card as that one may be corrupt.
1 press and hold the power button for 20 seconds to turn off the nook
2. press and hold the power button, and then press and the home key while still holding the power button down.
the screen will flash and then the message "touch the future of reading" appears. The message disappears and the factory reset prompt appears.
3. press the home key to execute the factory reset. a confirmation screen will appear
4. press the home key again to confirm, the nook will be deregistered from Barnes&Nobles and original factory settings are restored..
if you've blown away the original factory settings you may need to download a new copy and load it onto an sd card (suggest a known good sd card)
and reload it.
good luck
Thanks! I've been able to get it back to stock, but I can't get a ROM installed. It either gives me a status 0 or status 7 error, or it hangs at the Cyanoboot screen and then eventually reverts to stock and sends me back to the "Hello, welcome to your NOOK" screen.
I've spent several hours going through XDA threads and various tutorials around the web, and nothing I do works. I've rooted and installed ROMs on three phones and two other Nooks (an original color and an HD+), and those all worked fine, but somehow this HD (hummingbird) manages to thwart all of my efforts. What really drives me crazy is that all of the tutorials make it look so easy, but when I try to do the same thing, it fails!
I think it might be a problem with the recovery. If I could just get that installed, then maybe it wouldn't be able to revert to stock anymore. But whenever I install a recovery, I get the same thing: it gets stuck on the Cyanoboot screen.
