accelerometer issues - Nook Color General

Hello all from shanghai.
The other day I left my nook color unattended with some little cousins as they were playing some games. 5 minutes after I hear a "thunk" as plastic hit marble. I ran back my cousins and had seen my nook fortunately not cracked or damaged .. just a little dusty. I opened up google to look something up and tried to type in landscape mode. Didn't budge at all. I held the nook color home button and seen the last app used was settings. It was possible that my cousins changed some settings but everything seemed fine to me.
Is it possible my accelerometer is damaged? Or is it a settings issue?

Look in Settings/Cyanogen/Display and make sure that all four accelerometer settings are checked. Other than that (and rebooting), I've got nothing.

Touchscreen Not Responding / Malfunction

I've been using my HTC Diamond for about 2 weeks now.
Bought it from www.plemix.com and it came unlocked , and I had no trouble at all using it and installing the HardSPL's / updating ROM (Dutty's Diamond v1.6) .
Today I ran the TomTom Navigator 7, and after a while it started to make continuous sound - the default sound when a button is pressed or touchscreen is tapped- , so I did soft reset a few times, didn't solve it, touchscreen was kinda jammed, and I took out the battery. A minute after I put it back, and it worked fine, I took some photos right after, and everything was working fine.
Then two hours later, I took out my phone from pocket to check the time, I see it's halted on the photo screen, and no response at all. So I just turned the phone off by taking out the battery, and just left it off until I came home.
Now the touchscreen is not responding to any taps or clicks, except that it seems that it still detects any sort of tap/click, because the backlight comes on from dim state when I try to tap it.
So it definitely means the touchscreen is not completely dead, but it's just not functional most part.
Hardware buttons works fine, but I'm stuck at the initial "Tap your screen to begin configuring your Windows Mobile" after hard reset. I even updated the ROM to Dutty's Diamond v1.8 just now.
Since I can't do anything and just leave it idle, it goes to [ Align Screen ] page, and still I can't press any cross, since the touchscreen is completely not responding.
Anyone had this screen death problem? Any method of solving it?
---Updated---
Just now the touchscreen worked for 30 seconds, i could actually align the screen, then it showed me the Date/Time setting page, where I could scroll the cities , but then it stopped working again. So i'm still at Date/Screen page...
--Updated--
The touchscreen works for 2 minutes after I do a soft reset / power on&off, or I should say, it works until you press some hardware key on the bottom (volume up/down buttons doesnt affect this).
After I press any of those buttons at the bottom, the touchscreen stops working.
Also, after I turn on the device, enters WM, and runs TouchFLO3D, for the entire time touchscreen works, it's constantly pressing the tasklist dropdown (upper right corner of the screen), making it constantly pop down the task list.
have you tried a hard reset?
Yes, like 3 times. Wiped everything, OS, ROM, NANDFlash.
Also updated the ROM from 1.6 to Dutty's 1.8 ROM. Everythingn works fine except for the Touchscreen.
Right now, when I turn on, the touch screen seems to be pressing all the time at the task manager part of the screen (where the [X] is), its popping up all the time the task list, then after a while, like say, 2 minutes, touchscreen again ceases to work.
Not really promising, but you could try to remove the screen-protector. Perhaps this releases any tension onto the screen.
Thanks. I've thought of that, maybe I'll try later on.
For now i'm suspecting that maybe water went in through, so I've put the phone upside down to maybe take out the water using gravity for 2 days.
It seems like it's working better now, with longer hours of normal functioning..
I'll wait and see one more night... if water is the cause of the problem, it should dry up in say 3-4 days.
It may sound strange, but pit it face down on the carpet and rub it around for a while. Its how I fixed mine. Don't ask me why it works but I had the same thing happen. I think somehow the electrical charge got dissipated from the screen and the static from the carpet recharged it.
Actually your words makes a lot of sense
My Diamond was acting completely alright today, used GPS for 2 hours and called a few people along with many weather updates.
Seems to be working fine now...
But I think what you said is pretty reasonable, since when I rubbed my dead screen , after a few rubs it started to work (2 days ago).
Thanks
yeah this had happened to me about a week ago exactly the same thing I had hardspl mine and updated radio to .05 and then a few days after I had the identical problem. However I took a shortcut and sent the phone back in and requested a replacement claiming it was defective they agreeded and sent a new one however this one already has .05 radio on it so I didn't have to hardspl it. I can't say any of these things would have worked form me as I did not try them byt symptoms are identical. my .02

[PROBLEM] Died?

Hey guys, I was wondering if somebody would be able to maybe help me diagnose the fault\problem part with my non-working diamond...
Basically I went to a club one night and the place was unbelievably steamy / humid. My phone was working one minute and then the next it wouldnt display anything on the LCD. The backlight was working however.
Since then I havent been able to get an image on the screen although when trying to turn it on, it seems to go through its startup sequence (backlight -> vibration -> beep (i think))
I havent had any power to the phone since a day after it broke (a few weeks ago).
I'd like to get it back working again but dont know exactly what part i would need to replace. I'm fairly competent with electronics .
Any help/advite would be appreciated!
Haha, ok that's odd...
I've plugged it into my pc to get some data files off about an hour ago.. forgot about it and just looked at it now and the screen is displaying!
It is displaying and accepting input although it was flickering at first (like pixel shifting). but i pressed the power button to standby the screen and pressed it again and the display is fine with no flickering ?
Ive moved the phone about and shook it quite hard to see if there's any loose connection but the display still seems fine..
Anybody have any ideas as to what it may be?
I'm not going to deem it as fixed until I know what the problem was/is lol
cheers guys
Ok screen actually keeps flickering nonstop, and sometimes 'fades away' to gray/white/black
comes back after a few seconds though
Looks like a faulty connector?

[Q] My screen taps/touches/clicks itself

as the title says i was reading when the menu started showing and hiding again and again i tought was some book issues but when i got to the homescreen it began to run apps i had on it, i have no idea of the cause of this problem
I've had this same problem. I believe it's just the software and not a deficient screen. If you look over on the nookdevs website, there's a page about recalibrating the screen. I've tried it a couple of times and it's definitely improved it. Every now and then something wacky happens, but I guess that's to be expected when you let B&N develop for Android.
I had this happen myself once, and it was pretty annoying... If I didn't have adb available I don't think I could have fixed it until I did. I wasn't able to tap the screen myself, it was taping all over the place.
I did manage after a few minutes to get multitouch paint installed and it was drawing weird dots, lines, angles, etc...
I now have the recalibrate command in gscript but not sure I could run it while it's acting up. Luckily it's only happened once, and it happened while plugged in but never seen it happen again.
Happens a lot on my NC, and I think every time its because my kids touch it with dirty fingers (sweets, chocolate etc), smearing small amounts of dirt on the screen.
The screen goes nuts within few seconds, thinks its being clicked etc...
Wiping/cleaning the screen helps to resore normal behavior, btw - while the screen is moist it does not work for me at all...
Ordered screen protectors, lets see if it makes a differencel
My screen randomly goes nuts as well. It seems like a sudden, rather than a gradual thing. The screen sometimes gets pretty dirty, but cleaning it didn't seem to make much difference. Odd thing is, what DID make a difference was taking it out of the aftermarket case. I have no idea why this would work, but it does. One thing this case does is that it pushes the power and volume buttons in, as it uses four elastic straps at the corners. Maybe holding these buttons a certain way recalibrates the screen, and if you're touching it at the time, it freaks out?
I've noticed my screen only bugs out when I have it plugged into the charger.
As long as its unplugged, its fine. As soon as i pop in the cord, the screen goes haywire.
Only the wall charger though, not when its plugged into the USB on the computer.
My screen was doing that until I got a screen protector.

Also, if you lock and unlock the NC it should stop acting funny.
I noticed that too. Mine hasn't gone REALLY nuts since I took it out of it's case, but sometimes when playing angry birds, it freaks out to the point where I can't play. Hitting the power button, and then hitting it again, and unlocking makes it normal. Wouldn't that indicate it's software instead of hardware? Maybe there's more than one problem?

Mine does the same thing every now and again. And like you, locking the screen and waking it back up fixes it every time. It's definitely software related.
Do your cases have a latch? With a magnet? Because I'm starting to think that may have something to do with it.
My case has a latch, but the magnet is not against the nook when I'm using it..

Heh, I've considered that.. Also considered the mystery sensor to the left of the Nook button too.. Nook is afraid of the dark.
Seriously though, with the CPU guvna' set to ondemand and wifi turned OFF before I power it off I haven't seen it reboot yet. It rebooted once yesterday and I know it had wifi left on as I had just been using it and didn't turn it off before it went to sleep.
So totally making up numbers here....
Default CPU governor + wifi on = 30% chance it's gonna reboot when it goes to sleep..
ondemand governor + wifi on = 20% chance it's gonna reboot
ondemand govenor + wifi off = <10% chance it's gonna reboot (not gonna even say 0 here.. heh)

I tested this theory. When the Nook is in the case, I get crazy screen taps when i try to type something. Out of the case, its perfectly fine.
When I just rest the Nook on the open case (not inside the straps/holders), it will also get crazy screen taps.
One thing to note is I also did not have any problems before updating to 1.0.1. Not saying the update is the cause of the problem but its one of the variables.

[Q] Need Advice: Possible Defective NC

So I got my wife a NC for christmas and the thing's been great. Wasplaying a bit of sudoku on it the other night while plugged in to the USB The touchscreen started gettign a bit wonky. It wouldn't respond to input and then would just randomly daisy-chain a bunch of erroneous commands together.
Now, if she's trying to read a book, when she taps to go to the next or proevious page it keeps bringing up the bottom menu (like she center tapped) or takes a few taps to finally change pages.
Something I can fix with a reset or should I just exchange it?

I had a similar issue when plugged in with the nook charger. I was using the keyboard and it became possessed. Any softkey I pressed resulted in something opening that wasn't supposed to. All I had to do was unplug the NC and everything returned to normal. It only happened once and I haven't had any problems since. You can try recalibrating your screen. If nothing works and it was my NC, I'd exchange it. Good luck!

How can I recalibrate without rooting? The wife won't let me root.

screen sensitivity issues

Is anyone else here having issues with screen sensitivity on the Nook Color? I'm running CM7 on SD card (Sandisk 16GB Class 4) and it appears to be running fairly well. My only issue is oftentimes, it senses taps when I'm just scrolling and the bottom left corner of the screen where the options/settings/menu icon is located is particularly difficult to tap. I usually have to try tapping the area 2~4 times before the menu will open. Drag and drop operations are also particularly painful.
Help, please?

Try cleaning your screen, the Nook has a very sensitive screen and can be victim to ghost touches from old finger prints and the like.
i use this app to recalibrate my nook. its super easy to use and its free

I had similar problems with nightly 130's (forget the original one I had). After about 5 minutes of use it would start to randomly spazz out and tap the screen out of no-where. The only fix was to put it to sleep then wake it up again, then it would do it again 5 minutes later.
I upgraded to the latest nightly earlier today and now it is as smooth as butter and I have no problems at all. I used 164 if your interested.

i grabbed this last week and its a lot more accurate in the corners, edges of the screen. i used to touch 5 to 6 times on the "share" button in the browser for google reader mobile. after running the app, i can do it in 1 to 2 times now.
i keep a screen cleaner (eye glass micro fibre rag) in the bag with my nook, i typically have to clean the screen 2-3 times a day b/c "finger prints" starts to distract me too much, not b/c of mistaken touches.
i did have a problem 2 weeks ago where touching was fine, but the keyboard, (both built-in and swype) in both orientations were going crazy, i would hit one letter and it would hit 20+ random characters. i rebooted twice and wiped the screen 2-3 times and it hasnt happened again.
oh, and i have one of these on my screen, since the 3rd day i had my nook

This is probably not it, but a lot of Nook Colors have issues with the touch screen when charging. If mine is plugged in, its pretty much unusable for anything that relies on a working touch screen.

good, im glad this is helping. I think i had read somewhere, don't remember where saying that if you cover or flip over the nook after hitting the calibrate button it can help even more. not sure if this is true or not but give it a try, its what i do when i recalibrate my screen
