I have cm7 on my phone, recently I've been trying to flash a nightly on my cappy and after the install "about phone" still shows the old mod. ROM manager also shows the old mod as my "current ROM"
I've tried reflashing, and even downloading onto my computer copying it to my card and trying to install through recovery and get stuck in bootloop. Ive deleted old mods from the download folder and Ive also tried different nightlies and have the same problem. Any help is appreciated

..and you've done the basic clearing your caches, data and dalvik? You may want to try a fac reset. That fixes a lot of problems sometimes
.. for the future you should post in the cm7 q&a's. Even if it is a nightly
Yeah, Ive done the wipes and caches. I guess I'll try fac reset. Thank you for the help

Ok, I did a fac reset, wipe cache, dalvik. Downloaded latest build through Rom manager, did cache, dalvik again, and still have the same results. Any ideas?

I know, my friends think I'm crazy. So I'm thinking I could flash back to stock and then start over? So, to do this I need to flash the stock Rom using Odin with repartitioning, correct? I'm assuming I can't use Odin jf6 one click because it doesn't repartition, or does it?

Yeah.. Odin one click JF6 does the repartition. I've flash back to stock a few times using that method and the last time being just a couple weeks ago. That is about your best bet. Odin back to stock.. get cwm and flash nightly. Its gotta stick then... you'd think

Whenever I flash a cm7 zip settings shows in app drawer with a generic icon, and its name is com.android.settings.SETTINGS. any calls to settings causes settings to FC.
This started after I flashed the cm7rc2. Had no probs with cm7 until then. But now ANY cm7 flashes with these results.
I can take the settings.apk from the zip and adb push it to the system app directory, and it's dandy after a reboot. But they never flash in right anymore.
Tested w/cm6.1, and cm6.2 vanilla, and even ruu'd & re-rooted.
Used clockwork 2.5.0.7, 3.0.0.5, amon ra, and darch Godspeed. All provide same results.
Yes, when permitted I am formatting boot, system, data, cache, dalvik, and rebooting recovery.
So... who's got something for me? Ideas?

You said you formatted, what about wipe/factory reset? Also, what else are you flashing? ROM,gapps, kernel, tweaks, apps, etc.? Could be a bid zip, try redownloading, try all the CM7 variants, aosp, nightly, RC2?
All wipes and formats, Each zip I tried was downloaded on phone and 3 computers. No tweaks, kernels or gapps.
Same results.
Edit:
Actually, if I flash gapps, it boots to setup, but touching the android is not recognized, so I'm stuck there.

maybe wipe all, format all, flash rom only, reboot? then flash gapps, reboot? maybe try a different sd card? I'm at a loss that's really weird, never heard of it before... hope you can get it, if I come up with something better I'll post it, otherwise you got me
Oh, did all that. Including different sdcard.
Thanks

3/10 had settings.apk load correctly. But the keyboard FC'S constantly, and the RomManager.apk doesn't install at all during flash.
Anyone else had these problems with 2.3.3?

I'm new to this site and it won't let me post in the development section. I flashed cyanogenmod on my captivate and now it's stuck in a reboot loop. I don't know what to do! i pulled the battery, didn't work. I tried to put it in download mode, didn't work. it goes to the at&t screen, then the cyanogen mod screen, then to the recovery screen. it does this forever. and i mean FOREVER, it only stops when i pull the battery, then i start it up and it does the same thing. PLEASE HELP!! how do i fix this? i need a phone!!
How are you trying to get into download mode?
At what point in the install did you start having problems

Can you go into recovery and wipe cache and dalvik cache, then try to boot?
Or do you have any other roms in your card you can flash.
Does amonRA make a recovery for samsungs, or you guys gotta use CWM?
Edit: sorry, not sure what 'download mode' is. You mean you can't get into bootloader?
Edit2: sorry didn't know that. Know nothing about samsungs. Good luck buddy.
You guys can only use cm or miui?
Isn't there a rooted version if your stock rom in your subforum? Couldn't that fix the issue, if you could DL it to pc, then go to recovery, USB/Ms and move rom to SD card?

I've tried that mate. I've deleted all backups and done fresh installs of a few different roms, but to no avail. It's got to the point that I have to keep updating my backups because the phone becomes unusable so often

If nothing helps then you can try this as the last option. You can reflash your firmware via Odin then custom recovery after rooting your phone and finally the custom rom you are using.

How exactly you perform clean install? And what scripts you flash?
Try going back to a stock ROM release, then flash CWM via ODIN and from there, a rom of your choice

I flashed SlaidyBoostV2.3, it made my phone completely unusable. I flashed the Beats script too, and that had the same effect.
I perform a clean install by wiping data and cache/dalvik. Then I flash the rom and repeat the wiping process. Am I doing something wrong?

I'm having trouble getting the stock firmware for my phone. It says the firmware is for SIM unlocked phones, and my phone is locked to one network. Looks like I'm gonna have to get my phone unlocked. I'll do this as a last resort if I can't find a solution.

Hi, I recently tried to root my Galaxy Exhibit, but now it's broken, nothing will load, it all force closes. My home, menu and search buttons do not work, I tried to restore it by using factory reset, but that just messed it up more. I plunged it into Samsung Kies, but it won't recognize the device. How can I restore the phone back, unroot, to factory settings.
This is what I did, first I downloaded TWO custom kernel (or roms, idk the difference.) The first one worked like a charm it was the root stock 1.8 but it was too stock, I wanted ICS so, I restored and I put a different rom/kernel in and booted it up, and boom everything is messed up, my kernel version has not changed, I tried using cwm recovery, but it didn't do anything.
Thanks
Sent from my LG-E970 using xda app-developers app
Well easy fix, in cwm wipe system or ROM 3 times wipe cache/dalvic cache. Then you can flash ICS and gapps, be advised there is no further development for ICS so I would suggest any 4.1 ROMs or even the 4.2 ROMs. Make sure you flash gapps
Sent from my SGH-T679 using xda app-developers app
this is why people need to do research. if you dont know the difference between roms and kernels dont flash
Amen lol

Hi guys,
so I was trying to sell my SGS i9000 and I failed. Why? Because I kept getting 'Unfortunately, the process android.process.media has stopped'. I tried everything I could find, clearing particular caches, wiping overall cache and dalvik, factory reset, even reflashed the ROM. Nothing has changed.
I believe it has something to do with the thing that I had accidentaly deleted 'media' folder (actually, cut it and pasted on the desktop, so I copied it back right away). Now the gallery doesn't work, the camera just as well and overall system can't boot every time. (If I press and hold the power button, it starts booting and gets stuck at Slim logo, but when I take the battery out after getting stuck, it boots just fine).
Are there any other solutions?
I'm on Slim Bean official build 7. Not sure which Sema kernel they've used, because I can't download or install anything as well.

I always format system before flashing, and yes, flashing stock firmware via odin helped, but I got bricked on the first try which scared the crap out of me.
