my volume down button is constantly trying to turn the colume down have taken it appart and reset it and still wont stop
Have you noticed whether or not the button seemed to click down properly (mechanically), or was it stiff or what?
Seeing as how the volume down button is actually soldered directly to the main logic board, I'd say if you don't have crud that's worked its way in to physically depress or cause the button to stick, then it's probably a broken switch inside the button (sorta like adhesive switches/buttons going out), and the only way to take care of that issue would be to replace and re-solder in a new switch.

Hey all
I disassembled my Touch Diamond to see if there was a bad solder on the mini usb (It would only charge if the cable was held in a certain way.)
I couldn't see anything wrong so I put it back together, but now the screen (The keys also dont light up) doesnt come on? But the phone seems to boot up fine, if I leave it for a while and I press the power button, it'll give me the sound to shut down.
I've also noticed if I press the volume keys, the screens lights up very slightly.
Any ideas?
I've disassembled and reassembled it a couple of times now, cant seem to find the fault.

OOPS!
Try inspecting the ribbon cable that connects the lcd screen and digitizer to the main board. You may have unhooked it somehow or possibly damaged it.

I've checked it, there doesnt seem to be any damage, and it appears to be connected correctly

You said earlier that if you push the volume keys it will sometimes light up...that sounds like a grounding problem. Check and make sure something around the power button is not askew. Also, (and this may sound stupid but trust me on this) don't tighten the screws down too tight. It messes with the d-pad.

Hey
Thanks again for taking the time again to reply.
Opened her up again a couple of time, still no luck.
I've tried various screws at different levels of tightness, still nothing.
I wish I knew what to tell you to try but I don't.
I guess take it in for repair so they can diagnose what the problem is.
I dropped my phone yesterday, and the power button doesn't do anything now. It doesn't seem to move much, either. I popped a little of it out using the stylus, and couldn't find any wires so I don't think there's a solution. The button itself seems fine, but I think it got dislodged a bit from whatever mechanism (spring or latch) that tells it to turn on or w/e. Looks impossible to open up the device. (don't see any screws. looks soldered in)
Anyway, the phone itself works. I resetted it and it'll load up Android fine. I just can't get into Android because you need to press the power button to get out of the standby screen.
Is there any way I could
a) assign a new button in Android (say the center button?)
b) fix the button (or if I brought it to a Sprint store would it cost less than the phone? ($60))
c) get rid of Android and go to Windows without using the power button (power+reset code)
Thanks for the help!

There are 4 Torx screws (1 under the warranty void sticker) essentially at every corner, so if you get a small enough torx screwdriver you can open it up
Here is a guide albeit in Russian, but the pictures are self explanatory
http://www.pdacenter.ru/razborka/razbor_htc_touch/
Is there any way I can reassign the button to the Back button or something? I need a quick fix so I can use the phone now for calling. Its probably built on to the motherboard because there's no wiring from the looks of it. Not sure where to find such a screwdriver, but I'll look into it.
I had a similar problem with my camera (back) button. It was a fairly easy fix. You will need a tiny Torx to get it open. There is a complete teardown thread on this site to help guide it. Once I had the right Torx driver, it took a few minutes. The switches are surface mounted and are held in place with clips. I had to bend the clips back into place and then reflow the solder joints with a soldering iron. I dropped some solder onto the clips to hold them together.
I tried to roll an alternate ROM with different key assignments...the build process is not well documented, IMO. I asked and was basically told to go make friends with a developer.
Thought I'd share this with you guys.. it is already mentioned somewhere else in the forum but it's buried in a long thread somewhere, very hard to find.
Recently I started having a problem with my N7000. The power button was not working properly. Only the faintest of touches, would result in the phone turning off. Sometimes, the button didn't work at all. Also, the phone rebooted itself several times a day...
For me anyway, it was simply dust/dirt around the power button.
1) remove back cover, then use a jewelry screwdriver to take out 9 screws. Then unclip the phone from the frame. To unclip the frame, take a look at how it's done in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N6CJy71_9Ok (1:52 mark)
2) wipe away the visible dirt/dust, and blow hard around the power button, volume button and usb port...
3) reassemble.
Hopefully, like mine, your N7000's power button is now functioning again. :fingers-crossed:
Hi all!
My phone got water damaged (a little bit, the back cover wasn't properly put) and the phone now turns on only in safe-mode, even if I reboot, pull the battery or do a factory reset. My volume-down key doesn't work now, if that could be the problem.
Does anyone know what I could do?
Thank you
Mine was doing the exact same thing, except my volume-down key acted as if it was being pressed down constantly. I spilled water on it while on a cruise and it wasn't the same. My phone would constantly mute and the volume overlay was constantly visible on the screen. I had the safe-mode on reboot several times, I'm assuming holding the volume-down during boot is what activates it.
My fix was pretty brutal, I popped the volume button off with a thumb tack, then uses tweezers to rip the volume ribbon cable out of the phone. I now have to go into the settings menu to adjust volume, but at least the phone is usable. My hunch is that water damaged the ribbon cable via the volume button.
The actual fix would be to replace the frame/back housing bezel for the phone. It's only about $8 on Amazon (http://amzn.com/B00K458DUK), however it requires removing the screen. My phone has been dropped a few times so I'm worried the screen won't survive a transplant. A replacement screen is $150, so I've just been dealing with no volume control for now.
I see... thanks for your input! I'm guessing mine is having the same problem. I'm not comfortable doing the brutal fix myself, but I don't know where I could take it around here to get it fixed.
I took apart my S5 and lost the power connector, volume rocker, flex cable (for home button) power button, volume rocker switch that connects to the board and the power button switch that connecs to the board
More or less, Ive basically lost about everything that you can deteach with the exception of the case lol
I used a razorbalde for some time then wore the connectors off the board and im unable to jump it
Wondering,
Were those pins used to send more than just an on/off response
for example were there four or more possible contact points for different purposes?
The way the pins are shaped (similar to the side of a OHMs symbol) make me wonder
Ive certainly bent the volume rocker receiver panel connectors and wasnt sure if them touching themselves would create a message to the phone of "button pressed"
If so Ill be needing to bend those into a different angle.. all of thats extra irrelevant info though
One more notation
I seen Power+Vol Down?+Home = ODIN Recovery mode... (and USB to PC)
I havent been able to try that (no home flex cable)
To be honest, I think your best bet would be to fork over ~120-140$ and purchase another used device. One center it comes in I would highly recommend either taking it to a professional to get internal hardware things worked on, or practice a more delicate approach. Turns out copper wires the size of a beard hair are a bit fragile. But as it is said a bought lesson is a taught lesson... right?
Due to a defect on a Galaxy S3 I have...I had to remove the power button and use an app called Button Savior. If you want the full lowdown on that...skip ahead to about the 11 minute mark on this youtube vid: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Glllc7bEJs
I verified on my GM900A that you can indeed turn the phone ON from an OFF state by plugging in a USB charger into the device and immediately press and hold the volume down and the home key.
Good luck to you at any rate.
