[Q] Which SD card to get (class) - XPERIA X8 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I want to change my 2gb SD card for an 8 or 16 gb one. Which one should I get? Should I go for a class 4 or 6, or is class 2 enough?

Get class 6. Class 6 SD cards are fast and if you're intrested, you may use multiboot with that card.

Well better card class better performance on sd...such like apps2sd and if u use a multiboot..but i think there is no specfial need for extra high speed card...
well at least 6th card class u would need!
personally i have 8gb 10 class card atm!

I don't think I can easily find class 8+ cards here. What about this one? I can't find which class it is?: http://www.sandisk.com/products/mobile-memory-products/sandisk-microsdhc

Which SD is the best?

Hi!
First, what is class 2 and class 6? Which is the best 2 or 6 in this case?
And which one of these two is the best:
Nokia MU 43 8 Gb MicroSDHC-11
or
Transcend microSDHC 8GB (Class 2) (TS8GUSDHC2)
- Class 2 specifikation - Support för Error Correcting Code (ECC)
Class mainly refers to read/write speed of the SD Card, the better the class the faster will be the data transfer speed but be careful with class 6 or class 8 cards on higher end memory like 8GB, 16GB or 32GB that has more tendency to give error. Class 4 is your best bet.

Hi! And thanks!
I did go with the:
Kingston Micro SDHC Kort (TransFlash) - 8GB...
Kingston kort (TransFlash) - 8GB Class 4 - inkl. adapter. - SDHC kompatibel - Read-/write hastighet 58x (8,8 MB / s) / 45X (6,5 MB / s)
Hope this is better than the one i had, did not know about classes at all.
if you are installing and running thing of the SD always go for the higher class card.
I have a class 6, 16GB SanDisk which I have had since they
were first available.
I have had no problems with it from day 1.

Sorry, it is a Transcend 16GB Class 6.
The Sandisk 16GB in other phone is a class 2.

I just bought a kingston 32gb class 6 micro sdhc but when ever i put it in my hd2 it just freezes up and as soon as I remove the card it works fine again. At first i though that it was a fake so I:
1)performed multiple tests,
2)reformated a 1000 times,
3)even putting 20gb of data just to make sure.
Turns out that it is authentic and it works perfectly on my girlfriend's htc BalckStone it also worked when I installed NAND (which i later removed due to insufficient memory).Ive been searching for days, I think its a windows mobile issue, any tips??
you formatted it 1000 times ?
btw i use a class 4 8gb and no problem except it sometime cannot boot android, i dunno if its the sd problem or android problem

I saw a class 10 card smwhere......now is this class 10 faster than class 6?

yes, a class 10 card is faster than a class 6 card, but a class 10 card is very expensive.
Don't buy a noname class 10 card for 30 Euro that might be a fake...
yeah i have that doubt too , about if a 32gb sdcard is properly supported by our phone and not brick it in the trying lol , also how will i know what class if my sdcard? is there a software for check that info?
On the most cards its on the body...
If not you can also ask the shop where you bought the card
A memory card with class 4 or higher is good!
Buy class 6, thats save
Try to avoid buying memory cards on ebay unless you have a clear idea about memory cards and the ebay seller. Some cheap chinese cards on ebay could be fakes which either would not work well or would have the capacity inflated by a driver hack.
microSDs come in class 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10. The speed difference between each of these classes is tremendous. However, the price is also different. Class 10 being most expensive and class 2 being cheapest.
You'd have to strike a good balance between speed, price and capacity. I'd recommend a Class 6 with 16GB capacity.
Of course, if you have lots of money to spare, go for a class 10 32GB.

Best uSD card to run CM7

I just put one of the CM nightly builds (build38) on a uSD card (sandisk 16gb class 2) and there is a major lag to even enjoy the device. I have been reading about that sometimes class numbers on the cards don't mean too much.
Which card would you recommend to run CM from (Brand/class/where to buy) from your experience?
any class 6 card should be plenty enough (as long as it has enough room for the ROM and stuff) even class 4 should work much better (but still some lag i beleive, idk ive never tried it)
newegg is a pretty good place to shop for them. Heres one such card - newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820211341&cm_re=8gb_micro_sd_card-_-20-211-341-_-Product
There is a long thread about this on here and the class 6 Transcend 8GB card got the most mentions for good perfomance. The probability for issues to arise increases when using cards over 8GB.
I have a class 2 Sandisk 8GB and class 6 Transcend 8GB card. They both work well.
I have been buying the Wintec cards from newegg for a couple months and run them in both my captivate and my nook they work awesome. Class 10 and fast. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820161411
Patriot Signature 8 GB Class 10 MicroSDHC
Did anybody have any experience with this card?

Are you running a rom (e.g CM7) off the card? Did you ever run a speed test?

Not at this time. What speed test would you like if I loaded one up on the card and booted from it?

I used that card for HC v4 and it was fine.
I've got 4 uSD card: one Dane-Elec 2G no class, one Kingston 2G no-class, one Transend 4GB class 6 and one PNY 8GB class 4. All run CM7 very well, maybe I didn't pay attention but didn't notice much different in performance. In benchmark, the write speed is about 5-7 MB/s.
The higher capactity 16GB card seems to have more problems, other than that every card will do.
You should check into the random read/write performance of small files on these cards. sometimes the class 6 or 10 aren't all they are cracked up to be. Fast transfers of large file yes, but general performance can suck.
sandisk class 2 or 4 cards can have excellent perf. I have a class 10 that is outperformed by class 2/4 and 6 cards.
if you are having problems with crashing, etc. try a basic sandisk and see if perf. is better.
there is a thread about it but i can never find it.

Confused about Which Sd card class to select

Well guys i wanna use my new SD card for extending internal storage by amarullz. So all i wanna know about is, will class 4 be sufficient or i must buy class 6? A 16GB class 4 memory card is now in my budget but class 6 is way outta budget. So will class 4 be a good choice or i must buy class 6?
I used amarullz with a class 4 microSD (first sdcard i ever had ) and it worked fine. I think it depends on which rom you are using. With CyanogenMod 9 it got a bit slow. But for example on "Apocalypse" (CM7) it worked very good.
use class 10.

[Q] MicroSD Card for Nexus One

I have the stock microSD card that came with the Nexus One (4gb class 2) and I am looking to replace it with a higher capacity and higher class microSD card.
I am looking at a 16gb class 10 microSD card for this purpose. Will this be compatible with the Nexus One?
AFAIK class 10 cards are SDHC cards. Does Nexus One recognize SDHC cards?
I have read some compatibility issues with a 32gb class 10 card, but not 16gb class 10 card.
Also, I will be partitioning 4gb with EXT4 file system (for mount2sd reverse mount) and the rest FAT32 for normal use. Will class 10 card work with both these file formats and will mount2sd work?
Or would a class 6 card be better for speed and compatibility?
Thanks for helping.

The class 10 MicroSD cards are all SDHC category cards. That's what I meant.
Anyways, thanks for your help. I will get the 16GB class 10.

The HC in microSDHC, miniSDHC, SDHC, only means that the card has a high capacity (4 - 32 GB). According to the official manual, the Nexus One should support microSD cards up to 32 GB.
I have a SanDisk 32 GB microSD class 10 in my Nexus One and it has been doing great for quite some time! Runs smooth and with no hassles. I don't see why you would have any issues with a 16 GB.
using samsung brand
Hi
bought the fastest class 10 (samsung brand) 16gb with the highest writing rate I could find, and using the latest 4.2.2 rom it is faster than the stock version. simply amazing.
invest in good speed. it's worth every penny
