Hello again,
Im Running WG 8.5 and I currently have the SD Card that came with the G1. Im looking to buy a new one and I don't really care about apps to sd.. I just want enough space for my music and pics and my cache. So, the one im looking at is 8gb class six. Is this ok? Or do I need a class 4?
Thanks for all your help,
Mike

Why would you buy class for instead of 6?
Thats like getting a G1 instead of a cliq
If you're not running apps2sd, class doesn't really matter. Truth be told my class 2 card ran apps2sd just as fast as my class 6. Run what you want.
In order of fastest to slowest:
SanDisk Class 6 8G

Transcend Class 6 8G

AData Class 6 16G

I have all of these cards, and they are all considered fast, but the SanDisk is the speediest IMO.

That makes no sense. I predict you did poorly on the verbal SAT's?

Does it make a big difference? I currently has a Sandisk Class 2 8GB, wonder if it will be much faster upgrading to a Class 6 card? I heard that some Sandisk Class 2 are as fast, if not faster, than many competitors' Class 6. But Sandisk Class 6 seems very rare here and costs quite a bit more.
BTW, Is there a way to figure it out in the G1...? I mean, the performance.
Thx!
This is the ATTO results of my Sandisk 8GB Class 2 in a Transcend USB 2.0 reader. Do you think upgrading to a Transcend Class 6 will speed it up...? Currently the phone feels kind of sluggish sometimes, I've enabled Compcache and has a 128MB swap partition and is running the latest Cyanogenmod.
Thanks!

How could i?, i'm not old enough to take it yet.
Let me jump on that.... I have a similar setup running a class4 though. I'd like to add some results from h2benchmark but every time I start that program, my SD-card gets unmounted... sorry BTT
Will I "feel" a boost in speed by getting a fast class 6? Are there any benchmarks telling me which one really is best value for money?

Haha, my bad man. You made it sound like the Cliq is better than the G1... which is way off in my opinion.
If you have Apps2SD a higher class card should help. If you notice... well, thats another thing.
Ooops... I thought partitioning the card with a swap partition does it. It doesn't, you have to run swapon to enable the swap manually.
Better yet, download an app called "user.conf Creator" from the market and use it to modify the user.conf and userinit.sh, the swap will be enabled automatically at each boot.
Compcache and Compcache with backing swap don't seem to as "speedy" as linux-swap-only. And I read somewhere that compcache plus linux-swap is not good either.
Maybe when Compcache will compress the page before sending it to the disk, it will be more efficient.
I'm going to try BFS + 10MB hack and see what gives.

Edit: BFS + 10MB hack DOES make a difference, the phone feels more snappy. Now, shall I upgrade to a Class 6 MicroSD...? : )
Guys what're your MicroSD cards doings? Post some ATTO results of them tested in a decent reader please... : )

Looks like the Toshiba Class 4 is not bad... Even better than the Transcend Class 6...
http://bbs.beargoo.com.cn/redirect.php?tid=2140969&goto=lastpost (sorry the text is in Chinese but you need the graphs only anyway)
Toshiba 8GB Class 4 MicroSD
Sandisk 8GB Class 2 MicroSD
HAHAHA that class 2 was that much better? This is why I hate labels like 2g/3g/4g for networks and class 2/4/6 for sdcards. You never really know what your getting.
Some alternate explanations for your results however:
-the class 4 was heavily fragmented
-the class 4 was near full
The Toshiba was still faster but the Sandisk, although labeled at Class 2, has as good read performance as some Class 6 ones.
The cards were formatted before use and even then, they've not been subjected to heavy uses.
Besides, AFAIK fragmentation is not a big problem for SLC and newer MLC modules.
so should I get that sandisk 8gb class 4 or an a data 8gb class 6?

My 4 is faster than my 6 and both are sandisk so its up to you. Maybe i need to defrag my class 8 or maybe its faulty who knows.
hmm, wouldn't the a-data class 6 average higher though because the minimum is 6 instead of 4?
Hi!
First, what is class 2 and class 6? Which is the best 2 or 6 in this case?
And which one of these two is the best:
Nokia MU 43 8 Gb MicroSDHC-11
or
Transcend microSDHC 8GB (Class 2) (TS8GUSDHC2)
- Class 2 specifikation - Support för Error Correcting Code (ECC)
Class mainly refers to read/write speed of the SD Card, the better the class the faster will be the data transfer speed but be careful with class 6 or class 8 cards on higher end memory like 8GB, 16GB or 32GB that has more tendency to give error. Class 4 is your best bet.

Hi! And thanks!
I did go with the:
Kingston Micro SDHC Kort (TransFlash) - 8GB...
Kingston kort (TransFlash) - 8GB Class 4 - inkl. adapter. - SDHC kompatibel - Read-/write hastighet 58x (8,8 MB / s) / 45X (6,5 MB / s)
Hope this is better than the one i had, did not know about classes at all.
if you are installing and running thing of the SD always go for the higher class card.
I have a class 6, 16GB SanDisk which I have had since they
were first available.
I have had no problems with it from day 1.

Sorry, it is a Transcend 16GB Class 6.
The Sandisk 16GB in other phone is a class 2.
I just bought a kingston 32gb class 6 micro sdhc but when ever i put it in my hd2 it just freezes up and as soon as I remove the card it works fine again. At first i though that it was a fake so I:
1)performed multiple tests,
2)reformated a 1000 times,
3)even putting 20gb of data just to make sure.
Turns out that it is authentic and it works perfectly on my girlfriend's htc BalckStone it also worked when I installed NAND (which i later removed due to insufficient memory).Ive been searching for days, I think its a windows mobile issue, any tips??
you formatted it 1000 times ?
btw i use a class 4 8gb and no problem except it sometime cannot boot android, i dunno if its the sd problem or android problem
Confused ......omg ebay scares me....duo pro, sdhc or class2,3,4.....can someone help me make a choice.....also is 32 gb properly supported by our device?

yes, a class 10 card is faster than a class 6 card, but a class 10 card is very expensive.
Don't buy a noname class 10 card for 30 Euro that might be a fake...
yeah i have that doubt too , about if a 32gb sdcard is properly supported by our phone and not brick it in the trying lol , also how will i know what class if my sdcard? is there a software for check that info?
On the most cards its on the body...
If not you can also ask the shop where you bought the card
A memory card with class 4 or higher is good!
Buy class 6, thats save
Try to avoid buying memory cards on ebay unless you have a clear idea about memory cards and the ebay seller. Some cheap chinese cards on ebay could be fakes which either would not work well or would have the capacity inflated by a driver hack.
microSDs come in class 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10. The speed difference between each of these classes is tremendous. However, the price is also different. Class 10 being most expensive and class 2 being cheapest.
You'd have to strike a good balance between speed, price and capacity. I'd recommend a Class 6 with 16GB capacity.
Of course, if you have lots of money to spare, go for a class 10 32GB.

it is faster but you will only see difference when you move big files from pc to phone.
what not to buy : Kingston 8gb class 4
I want to change my 2gb SD card for an 8 or 16 gb one. Which one should I get? Should I go for a class 4 or 6, or is class 2 enough?
Get class 6. Class 6 SD cards are fast and if you're intrested, you may use multiboot with that card.
Well better card class better performance on sd...such like apps2sd and if u use a multiboot..but i think there is no specfial need for extra high speed card...
well at least 6th card class u would need!
personally i have 8gb 10 class card atm!
I don't think I can easily find class 8+ cards here. What about this one? I can't find which class it is?: http://www.sandisk.com/products/mobile-memory-products/sandisk-microsdhc

I bought from ebay de 35 euros its the original and I have 10 years guarantee
Check it..
I have found 16GB CLASS 6 strontium brand which cost around 26USD. You think 16GB class 10 is a big difference for class 6?16GB Class 10 is still not available now in my area. What do you think? Planning to use it on link2sd/app2sd to focus all my apps on SD
Both are fast but class 10 is faster.

I use a transcend 8Gb class 6 SDcard. ofcourse, apps2sd is already included with most Custom ROMs (you do NOT need to move apps to the SD card, a partition,ext3/4, is used as apps and data storage and is treated as internal). Use Link2SD only on the stock ROM.
What i mean is that class 6 enough for day to day operation oe gaminf ie better buy class10?

Class indicates minimum data rate.
6 = 6MB/s
10= 10MB/s
So it is almost 2x faster
Some of "pro" class 10 have speed over 20MB/s
This isn't a huge difference for using app2sd. You can search in web a test of both sdcards. If the price difference is so big, buy the class 6 one.

Guys will our beloved W8/X8 benefit the class 10 speed or it is only for card reader? I mean in terms of gaming. Does class 10 outshines class 6? cause right now Im using a class 2 stock 4GB microsDHC with the write speed of 4.9 MB/s and a read speed of 11.3 MB/s on SD Card tools
You only need a class 10 card if you will be doing 720p video recordings. Since our cellphone can't record in 720p, it is not worth it. If you plan on upgrading your phone soon, then you'd better wait.
i have AData 8GB class 10 card and i pay for it 15$ dollars and worth that money because is very fast and good..
I have AData 16 Gb Class 10 for 28$ and its great =) fast card for good prize.
Class 10 is faster a lot compare with class 6. Because I am always copy files from Office to my laptop everyday, i feel the difference.faster 1.5-3x.
But, our x8 is only run about class 6 speed. So class 10 used on a x8, the speed is only faster about 5-10%.
If you ask my comment, i will still recommend you to buy the class 10,because: it is faster, and the price is not a big difference. maybe few dollars. you still can use the memory card on future phone.
Hmm I had bought a RiData 16GB Microsdhc class 10 worth around 35USD. But when I test with sd tools in market I can get only 9 and if lucky 10.1 most of the time 8.9
Class 10 cards suck at reading a lot of small files (gaming).
but is that normal for class 10? my stock class 2 can go over 3

that is normal for our x8. my stock class 2 was able to run at around 4mb.
my current kingmax 8gb class 10 able to run at 7-8mb
in pc, that is 14-16mb.
