Any suggestions for the best mobile recovery app? Looking for something that I can activate if i lose my phone, to either turn on GPS, send location, lock and/or remote wipe.
Thanks in advance!
Lookout Security

Yep. Nice. I've used Lookout for AV before, but forgot it had the remote recover features. I just tested it and it's perfect for my needs. The free version, allows you to remotely locate as well as make the device scream.
For reference sake, cause it was important to my since the Cappy doesn't have the best battery when gps is enabled.... I have the gps radio turned off and when you login to the Lookout site and click Locate, it remotely turnes on your gps, locates your device, then turns your gps back off. Freaking amazing!
Thanks again!
I use Androidlost. Its much less fancy looking, but its functionality is amazing.

Holy $%#@! Androidlost is where it's at. Hands down the coolest free recovery app I've seen. So much functionality and it just works. Good find man.

Where's My Droid is easy, just text Wheres my droid from another phone to your number and BAM!
I just read about one called Plan B that you can install even AFTER you lose your phone! Pretty cool.

I would have to say GMote. It talks seamlessly with your computer, so that you have your entire music collection with you. It streams rather well... Its nice when you have a Multi TB music collection.

do you mind me asking how do you have yours set up? i was only able to get it to work via my home wifi connection (same goes for all of the "remote" apps, ie. remote desktop & rdp, phonemypc). but i need it to work from a remote location.
before the last update google maps had me off by quite a bit now its dead on and I dont lose signal as often either....
Head to DynDns.com and set up DNS account (free). Have it tied to your ip address. Then, for gmote settings, instead of your internal IP, put in your chosen web address.

camera 360
i use so many useful apps all the time for different things I have my favorite app of the week. Camera 360. There is free and paid. you can take a photo and it will add effects that the stock camera does not. It can take the picture and "sketch" it so it looks as someone drew it. it also does that with painting which is neat. it will also add a ghost into the pics just for fun or creepy with kids or something. It's fun. I paid for the app after using free and it adds the ability to take a b/w photo with color added to just one spot or something. it is neat.
tried the camera 360 but it drained my battery fast I still use it from time to time.
Hi all, I notice with Modaco's ROMs, WaveSecure comes pre-installed. Went to the website and it seems useful, but has anyone here paid the $20 for a year subscription? What are the main, useful features? I haven't been able to tell that much from the website.
Thanks.
Do a search. Numerous threads on this.
personally i dont use wave secure, i use mobile defense. they are both great, but i use mobile defense as its free. i wish modaco ROM hadd a way to uninstall wave secure, because since i dont have an account, yet it pops up every reboot asking me to login. and i cant get rid of it!!
mobile defense lets you track your phone as well and it works great.

Just download the prebake without the default MoDaCo additions. Usually the last prebake option. You only lose this: Spare Parts, Titanium Backup, WaveSecure, WiFi Status Indicator. Any of which you can install later.

I will be using my GTab as my primary travel "laptop" since it's much easier to tug on a plane and the battery lasts 4 times longer.
This means I may very well have sensitive information, including my contact list, on it at any given time. I'm concerned that if I do this and it's stolen in an Airport or left in a cab that I could have a data breach.
What security options have people used? I'm concerned first about locking the device to keep out the average joe, but I also would like to have an encrypted section on the SDCard for sensitive file storage. I assume there's no way to encrypt contacts or email on the device, but other documents and spreadsheets would be good.
There's still a LOT of things I'd never put on a mobile device, but at times I might need to travel with sensitive information.
My suggestion for sensitive data would be a seperate Thumb drive with password protection. Just to be on the safe side. Use pin or password security on the tablet as opposed to lockscreen gesture. I use all the dots for my gesture so that my fingerprint trails can't be easily traced over.

I use Lookout premium for my Vibrant, and am researching to see if I can apply my premium protections to an additional device. I have been very happy with Lookout. Of all the programs out there this was the one I found to be best in terms of locking my phone remotely and not giving someone an easy way to figure out how to unlock it. Not sure if it will do the same for my rooted G Tab though. I'll let you know what I find out...

I checked with Lookout and they said that I can have two devices on my account. The only caveat is that since my G Tablet has no number it can't take advantage of advanced features that require SMS communication with the Lookout server. But the install went fine, signing in went fine, and I am now scanned and good to go!
How would lookout "Find your phone if it is lost or stolen"??? off of the Wifi signal if it is avaliable for the tablet?
New realtime web tracking system, runs on any phone 2.1+
You can send links to people you want to share your position with. Has configurable "update" times and shows last update/update interval/battery status on the web tracking page (useful for example when you are outside, roaming wilderness for many hours and need to save those last 10% of battery by turn long update interval - people watching you do not freak out, why didn't you move for a long time).
Current status: works, I am optimizing the GPS usage for battery savings.

It does, over Wifi.
I am the author of this app and have one question - did you ever clicked on ads in this app? I am just trying to make a kind of "Survey" between users to know, which way to go. I have the paid version, but it doesn't sell well, so I made the Ad-supported version, listed in Google Play for free, but not many people click the ads.
What do you think? Do you think, that having the app free, supported with ads is viable option for me?
Does this application allows recording and upload tracks?
I`m looking for app like old GPSed for iOS and Blackberry.

For the most part if I use and like an app, I will get the paid version. Outside of that, I don't see the ads, and I would not click on them if I did.

hmmm. great app, starting to download now. thanks
Not sure about this time tracking application. We had been using Replicon's time tracking product suite which is an easy to use cloud based solution. It has a simple to use calendar view interface, great features for usability and unparalleled back up support too. NO issues till date, had been quite efficient and productive tool.

nice application, ang i want to tray this. thanks
Nice app... but
I just downloaded your free version to see how it worked before purchasing and have a question.
In your description it says you can send links by email but there is no option through the phone app to send links at all. The only place I seen that offers any type of links to send is on the website. I think this option should be offered through the phone app.
Is this something you plan on adding?
I just got a SGS3 and I'm keeping my SGS for now. Any thoughts on some cool or useful things I could do with it now that I have my SGS3? I'm willing to try almost anything but I haven't thought of anything that I can't just do with my SGS3. I'll probably try put Jellybean on the SGS before I try it on the SGS3.
One idea is maybe use it for a webcam. I don't have a webcam right now so is there I way I can use the rear camera as a PC webcam?
Throw out some ideas. Keep in mind I don't have a data plan or voice plan for it anymore but wifi is an option still.
Thanks!

I really do have unfortunate peeps I know who have BB or iphone. Unfortunate in that they aren't on Android.
What an amazing story it would make of international benevolence and sharing. Ok, maybe that's a little over the top.
But, I did live in Dorset for 14 months. May that sway you..
And if you ever visit Canada, you'd have a place to stay...
And I'll pay the shipping.
You can also use it as a NAS (if you load it whith a usb host enabled kernel) or torrent client.
I saw read somewhere that someone modded the camera to be a nightvision one (hardware mode) you could try that?

Clean flash and donate to a local charity of your choice
Why don't you donate it to a hardworking dev? I'm sure they could do something useful with the second phone.
The good first gen single core phones are starting to go off plan and turn up second hand. I picked up a Galaxy S Epic Sprint (the one with slider keyboard) last week at my favorite pawnshop for $60 mint, to mess with and use as a mini tablet. Apparently either the prior owner didn't deactivate it, or with Sprint (no sim card) once activated the phone works fine on wifi. First did factory reset, then rooted, now everything including GPS seems to work (other than the phone and cel data of course, at some point I'll install a Google Voice solution).
I'm using it as a middle of the night reader with a screen dimmer app. My wife has been bothered by the bigger screen lighting of the NC, so something smaller helps. Its a pretty good ereader/podcast player for this purpose. Lots of reader/news apps seem optimized for its WVGA screen, some have night mode. And I put a couple of games on it for the kids to use in the car instead of giving them my real phone.
Now I need to figure out something to do with the slider keyboard. Thinking maybe a remote keyboard app for the PC, anybody recommend an android app that will convert a slider keyboard to a remote computer keyboard through a network?
Hi,
Make a crach test movie
Regards,
I'd say put it away somewhere safe in case something happens to the S3 and you need a backup phone. That's what I'm planning to do with mine. My Galaxy S will be a backup and would be the one I would take on long hikes cause I won't be too bothered if I drop it, although I've kept it in mint condition.

Slaphead20 and skills have good suggestions.
Otherwise, I'd always planned that whenever I upgrade, I'd likely keep it for its amazing audio quality from its Wolfson DAC and Voodoo Sound; it's hands down the best portable music player I've owned. Plus, there was a good article on Lifehacker a ways back about people keeping older smartphones and iPod Touches with Skype on it to use as a 'house phone'.
