Okay, where do I begin? The PSfreedom was released for droid and a friend said I can use one of her old droids which was 2.1update1. So in my haste to flash this thing I used EasyRoot, got it rooted (of course made a nandroid backup at least), installed cyanogen 6 (made a backup of this using clockwork recovery), installed the wrong kernel, then was stuck at a loop screen. Well I kept trying and trying to boot it to Clockworkmod Recovery and nothing was working until about the time I gave up and set it down...and WHAM! Clockworkmod Reovery! So I went to nandroid, restore and clicked on my clockwork cyanogen backup. And thus I was stuck on an endless loop of the Droid eye and the Droid logo. I assumed something went wrong and tried booting into clockwork recovery to no avail. Then it finally let me into the normal recovery and I decided I should find a way to start from scratch. Now I wiped EVERYTHING and still I have the endless loop, PLUS it wont let me update to another official firmware via update.zip.
This is the error it gives me:
-- Install from sdcard...
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
Installing update...
Verifying current system...
assert failed: apply_patch_check("/system/app/Phone.odex", "e619ca7905cd905cd9eeb429c96601b728667b30b94b7", "5d22b967c190356983966fa1f7901aeebdffaaaf")
E:Error in /sdcard/update.zip

Installation aborted.
Can anyone help me figure out what the bejeezus is wrong?
i would suggest u check to see if there is an option to "allow install of update.zip" and click on it before you do the update. i know sprecovery has it
if all else fails, flash the 2.1 sbf file and start over, its really easy

Read the Wiki in my signature.
Follow "Unroot/restore my Nexus" guide. Do what it says for FRG83.
flashing to FRG33 will upgrade to FRG83 and let u know how it goes or if i need help
FRG83
Successfully flashed to FRG33
but i put FRG88 on my sd card
and named it as update.zip
when i went to recover and tried to flash it says
finding update package...
opening update package..
verifying update package....
E:signature verification failed
installation aborted.
any idea?
also im still having wifi problem
when i turn on wifi it says application settings(inprocess com.androd.settings) is not responding then gives me force close
It could be that your update package was not properly signed, or it was corrupted when downloading.
Download it again and see if signature verification passes.
Also if you're sure that the update package is not signed intentionally, you may need a recovery which can ignore signature (as far as I know Amon 1.8 or above can do this)
Hi, first post so go easy on me if this has been asked before!
I'm basically having problems in recovery mode. When I try to do a Nandroid backup there is no option for it. When I select reinstall packages the status says failed to install update.zip or something along the lines of that. Same thing happens when I try to flash a rom. Anybody know whats going on?
Did you install cwm recovery using rom manager?
Yeah I did. I flash the latest version with rom manager. I see the update.zip in the internal sd card folder but im still getting the same message.

Did you flash the leaked froyo? If so you have 3e recovery, and clockwork recovery will not work. You will have to flash back to stock using odin. You can find it in the captivate development thread. Make sure you are flashing jh6. All of the custom roms have fixed this problem with the recovery not working with clock work
If you are not on the leaked froyo I have nothing
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
I'm almost sure he has to be on Froyo. 3e recovery requires signed .zips which is where he's having the issues with.
I haven't been putting roms or recoveries on my cell phone for about 6-8 months now, I am still running a custom rom with 2.1 and sense. My phone does is not stable over 691 mhz, so since I have been gone for a while and I haven't kept up with the new recovery images, can you guys give me links to threads that have recovery images that run no faster than 691 mhz but support apps2sd ext4 and other newer options in the recovery. Thanks so much for all the help.
I am currently running a darch/toast recovery at 768 mhz, but am tired of how unstable it is because of my phone not liking to go above 691 mhz, otherwise I really like their recovery.
Or if someone knows how to tweak the darch/toast recovery to be 691 mhz, I would be quite happy, because I am quite content with the options their recovery has.
What rom are you running?
If your phone doesn't like to go above 691, like mine do this:
> Go to this thread
> Download update-jasonm-kernel-stable.zip
> Install that kernel.
I promise you your phone will run so much smoother with this kernel. The recovery doesn't really matter at this point. I had the same problem as you and then I installed this kernel and it really helped and solved my issues.
I am running NFX-Hero 2.2.1 with update1 (it has Sense UI and is Android 2.1) at the moment as the as the Rom goes.
So even though this kernel says in the title aospCMod, it should have no problems working with an android 2.1 sense rom? (Just want to make sure, it has been awhile since I have actively messed with my phone, just making sure nothing has changed in the meantime)
I installed jasonm's 691 kernel on my custom stock-based 2.1 ROM earlier today and I'm not having any problems as of yet.

Correct, just make sure you install it correctly and you'll be just fine.
I got an Error when I tried to "Flash zip from sdcard" from Darch/Toast Recovery
Error is:
Install from sdcard...

Verifying update package...
E:Wrong Digest:

Any insights from you guys on where I should go from here or what I can do? Thanks so much

Not necessarily the ideal solution, but you could try flashing a new recovery - I didn't have any problems with clockwork. My guess is that your recovery is older and doesn't support the newer Edify script used in the kernel.

You need to update your recovery image, it's outdated with the scripts used in the kernel.
That worked thank you
Flashed Clockwork 2.5.0.1 for now, I heard the new version was OCed, so I didn't want to deal with that for now, I just want it absolutely stable before I go to other new recoveries, roms, etc.
You're welcome, if you have any other problems let us know!
Hi,
I was trying to install CM9 to my GT-N7000 with flashing CWM onto it (using Abyss kernel) and now my phone hangs on the galaxy note logo.
If I try to get into recovery mode I always get these messages:
E: Invalid command argument
-- Installing package...
finding package...
opening package...
veryfying package...
installing package...
after that it reboots and it's stuck.
Whatever I do, trying to flash it again with stock gb rom; again flashing with abysskernel, different stock roms (gb and ics) it doesnt seem to help.
How can I get rid out of this endless loop ?
Is the phone bricked ? I can get to download-mode..
(fyi I use heimdall on debian)
Anyone any suggestions?
Help would be more than welcome!!
Regards
Peter
