[Gobstopper] Bell GB 2.3.4/6 Updated 12-18-2011 - Atrix 4G Android Development

AT&T is not supported at this time.Update:
This is a CWM zip for the official Bell GB in stock format.
Bell_GB_2.3.6.zip
(md5 d757a0c2c2bb830946956d2411d22ccd)
Bell_GB_2.3.4.zip
(md5 e23a8d0895a13d032a2f46227d2ad7b2)
Notes:
This is a stock Gobstopper like the Bell 2.2.2 one, it is rooted but not deodexed.
It includes my auto ram fixer, so if your recovery doesn't have the ram fix, it will halt and fix that for you, just reboot into CWM again and proceed.
-----------------------------------------------------------
This is a CWM zip with deodexed app and framework plus some tweaks. To be applied to the stock 2.3.4/6 Bell GB above.
Bell_GB_2.3.6_deodexed.zip
[md5 b14b0a745ecba630315fdd2cdb8643ba]
Bell_GB_2.3.4_deodexed.zip
(md5 b2c72557ce80777a8f0d695f1ab2b6ed)
Features
Deodexed app and framework (48MB free in /system)
multitouch tweak (up to 10)
screen pixel density set to 280 qHD
proximity delay set to 150
wifi channels set to 14
wifi.supplicant_scan_interval set to 90
ro.hdmi.mirror.enable set to true
busybox added back in (v1.18.5 with some things taken out) Implemented as a /system/busybox directory with the system path in /init.rc updated to have that included.
ro.secure=0 in boot.img
Includes mkbootimg and unpack binaries compiled for the phone for extracting the boot ramdisk and adding it back in on the fly during CWM recovery. So if you are using another kernel than stock these tweaks will still apply. Can also be used for kernel only CWM zips, leaving the ramdisk alone.
Talk2.apk added from Bell leak, Talk.apk renamed to Talk.apk.bak
framework-res.apk has lower brightness levels for auto display brightness, original available as framework-res.apk.bak
Fixes:
data wasn't being mounted, forgot to put userdata instead of data. It is there for deleting dalvik-cache of odexed files, if factory reset, non issue.
PATH update was always updating (sanity check)
added in unlocked ap20bl to avoid having to re-unlock via sbf if flashing in one session. You will need to reinstall a CWM recovery and re-apply ramfix as well if it doesn't include it, since the stock zip resets the boot and recovery images. Ramfix is applied to stock boot but CWM is overwritten by stock recovery.
added in ramfix instead of using cmdline.txt, issues with too large lines in the script. Will probably modify mkbootimg to read a file instead. EDIT done.
The following has been superceded by the files above.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is a CWM zip for the Bell GB leak.
Requires:
Unlocked bootloader GO HERE
Unlocked CWM recovery installed (tenfar's).
Patience
Features:
Deodexed app and framework.
su and shsu preinstalled, install Superuser.apk from market for root.
Date text colour in notification dropdown fixed.
Tunes and app duplication fixed.
No bloat removed. You decide.
Includes webtop, preinstall, cdrom, cdt updates and misc other partitions.
multitouch hack
Ram fixed. (autodetects mbr:1100 and mbr:d00, stock Bell 2.3.4 kernel)
33MB free in system instead of 1MB.
Download and install
Thanks to eval- for the unlocked ap20 bl.
Thanks to michael0619 for the multitouch hack.

thanks for setting this up. had problems downloading thus me not getting back to you with my progress. Now I can look for what went wrong.
Cheers

Is this a stock bell kernel?
If so can you pull it from this and host it D: Much needed.

Try flashing the zip through CWM recovery instead.

Hi.
Sure thing. Use it as a base for something better, it's pretty minimal as it is.

Use tenfar's unlocked CWM recovery, not rom manager. install from internal.
Internal mem needs to be mounted, and it's called internal by tenfar, probably sdcard by rom manager.

I wouldn't think so, however if you got there via pudding, then you just installed boot and system, maybe webtop, Whatever else is on your phone before that is still there. Should all be fine with an unlocked bootloader.
This CWM has the unlocked ap20 bootloader. Thanks eval-! Main reason for that is flashing multiple zips while in a CWM recovery session. (Since if you can flash it then you are already running an unlocked bootloader and it would otherwise be pointless, writing the same bl over itself. Attn. AT&T folks, your unlocked bl would change if you flashed this, danger.)
For instance if you flash back to stock using my Bell 2.2.2 gobstopper, you can flash to this one right away without losing the unlocked bootloader, or tenfar's CWM recovery. Not that that is should be necessary, but it's an option.
Cheers!

I ran through CWM and everything was good, after the reboot I started getting a whole bunch of FC's so I flashed again wiping the data and cache first. After the reboot on my second flash I'm getting less FC's but upon boot I'm getting an FC on com.motorola.service.main, I'm getting no data connectivity I figured that this was due to an APN issue so when I try setting one up I get an FC with com.android.settings
Any Ideas?

Hi,
Just to clear house I would go back to 2.2.2 and try again. I don't get that error.
I should probably add in the rest of the misc partitions ala the 2.2.2 gobstopper. (Takes forever to upload for me, 3.5 hours) What I implemented here were the changes made by the OTA, so you might still have some random junk left from prior to Orange GB.
Cheers!

Thanks for the assistance, I'll just use your 2.2.2 package to go right back to stock and start from scratch using your 2.3.4 package.
Thanks so much for your awesome packages!

Ok I ran your 2.2.2 Gobstopper package and it worked great, had data and everything no FCs at all. Then I unlocked the bootloader, installed CWM, and then installed this 2.3.4 package now I'm stuck at the motoblur hello screen with no data and when I try and look at the APNs I get the settings FC I posted before, and when I try and skip registration I get com.motorola.setup FC. I'm just not having any luck maybe I should just go back to 2.2.2 and wait for an OTA.

I've currently fastboot'd + erase everything that updates in this .zip.
Testing it out now, almost done installing the zip.
Will post updates.

Failed again.. the first thing that boots up is.
Sorry!
The process com.motorola.service.main has stopped unexpectedly.
FC.

Ok good so it is not only me.

Hi,
Sorry to hear you are having problems trying to duplicate now. Are you guys seeing 1100 or d00 on the screen when flashing. And is it only at motoblur setup?
Cheers!

Ginger-Root Resource Thread: How-To + Issues + Fixes

Ok so I have successfully rooted my phone after updating to Gingerbread. However, I had a few issues and had to read through a bunch of different posts to get there. So I'm bored and decided to consolidate everything into one.
If anyone has any other issues or fixes post them here and I will update the OP.
Credit goes to mtmichaelson and all those who helped get this working
http://androidinvasion.us/forum/index.php/topic,77.0.html
Here it is:
1. ROOT PROCESS
A. Get back to Stock:
-download the stock Zv4 ROM zip from here and put it on your external SD card- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1326893
-Back up all your apps in titanium (important: USER apps only, no data or system apps)
NOTE: It has been reported that restoring apps and data in titanium may cause some issues coming from Froyo to Gingerbread. I backed up my user apps only for easy re-install and NO data or system apps. It worked without a problem.
-MAKE SURE YOU HAVE 4G ENABLED
-boot into recovery (CWM)
-backup?
-factory reset
-select "install ZIP from SD card" in CWM, and install the stock ZIP from the link
-re-bootyour phone (you will have to re-activate it as well)
-install revo toolkit from here if it was wiped with the system reset - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1144951
-press "install recovery" and then !!!Revo Stock!!! to go back to stock recovery and wait for it to complete
B. Update to Zv6 then Zv7 (Gingerbread)
-manually search for the update and install it (this will install the v6 update)
-once that installs, manually search again to install the gingerbread update
NOTE: Some people still can't get gingerbread. Verizon has not finished rolling the update out to everyone yet.
Now here is where it gets a little dicey...
C. Rooting Your Gingerbread Phone
-pick up the rooting package from mtmichaelson here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1326509
-follow the instructions he has on that page to obtain root
-Two issues arose for me from this point on.
2. ISSUES
A. Drivers Issue
-The first issue was that some people, including myself, couldn't download the esteem drivers.
-Some people were able to get the drivers from this page to work - http://androidnerds.net/2011/10/08/lg-esteem-oneclickroot-now-ready/.
-I was not able to get my computer to recognize my phone using the above drivers either. I would run the root command from the downloaded package and it would get stuck at "running daemon something something".
-What I did was manually uninstall the LG drivers from my computer and deleted everything "LG related"
-Then I got the drivers from the LG website at this link - http://www.lgforum.com/resources
-Scroll down to the Verizon section and download the "LG_VZW_UNITED..." drivers.
-Your phone should be recognized using the drivers from one of these links.
B. Superuser/Root access Issue - NOTE: this should be fixed now with mtmichaelson's newest root method found here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1326509
-The second issue that came up was that the previous superuser app I had installed stayed on my phone after the updates, even though I lost root.
-The root command from the LG Esteem page would think I had root, but I actually didn't get root access.
-Apparently this issue came up on the Esteem previously and someone wrote a fix for it here - http://androidforums.com/esteem-all...-w-superuser-3-0-6-binary-3-0-3-download.html. It will uninstall the old superuser and install the new version.
3. INSTALL CWM RECOVERY
-mtmichaelson's new rooting package should automatically install CWM recovery on your phone now.
Old method:
-To get CWM back on your phone it's the same process as before the update. Get the Revo Toolkit from thecubed here and follow the instructions - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1144951
-There is sometimes an issue where the recovery does not install correctly and gives a fatal error. If this happened, make sure you have version 1.17.1 of busybox installed at system/bin. This worked for me and I got it installed correctly.
...And you should have root after trying a combination of the above. Hope this helped.
-If you have READ through this and still have any issues you can get more personalized help on the IRC channel here.
-Again I did not help with any of this, I'm just consolidating info. If you want to thank someone, thank mtmichaelson and everyone else who helped figure all this out.
-I will keep updating this as new issues arise.
Thank you for compiling this information, it is a useful reference for people to have. I know that the drivers issue took me quite a while to work out even though it is pretty simple. Hopefully this helps others to get rooted with much less trouble.
Quick question using that stock ROM will it completely unroot me?
Also a bit confused with me running revolt does that mess up me just flashing that and it has the stock boot image.
I've Revolted have you?? Sent via tapatalk plugin.

You need to use Revo toolkit to get cwm off and the stock recovery back on. from there it will run fine. Then you just have to reroot using MT's modified rooting .bat file

It depends on you connection speed. If it's 3g a while. I recommend doing it on 4g or wireless. You also need busybox installed in the right location. Install the version 1.17.1 in system/bin. The newer versions of busybox may work now but they previously did not.

It looks like it's a common problem. I haven't installed the ROM yet but mt's new gingervolt rom is supposed to make CWM stick - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1326542
Ok so I'm a complete and utter noob when it comes to CWM etc. Never had an android device before this one, never flashed a ROM.
I've got a pretty good grasp of whats going to be happening here, but I'm a little skiddish.
I'm on stock GB with root, at the point where i'm supposed to install CWM with the RevoToolkit. In the RevoToolkit instructions, thecubed says "If no version is listed, STOP and post here.". Well, no version is listed, presumable because i'm on a GB stock recovery. Do I stop here, or do I proceed with installing clockwork recovery?
Specifically, RevoToolkit reports "Version Not Found".
Advice?

Please be careful! I will be posting a Droid 4 ROM created from our current MotoBlur .215 system. This can be flashed as the Safe ROM in Safestrap for those who like to "play" with their phones / settings / bloatware. That way if you mess something up you'll be able to get into Recovery and restore a backup /system.

Will do, can't wait for that! Hey quick question....let's say I wanted to flash a zip for a mod in Safestrap. I cant flash it when SS is disabled so I have to enable it but that restores the old system. Is this where I want to toggle , install the zip and then toggle back afterwards?

There's no flashing zips to the "Non-Safe" ROM in Safestrap. You can only flash zips to the Safe ROM (with Safe Mode enabled).
You only run your original ROM when Safe Mode is disabled.

The problem I'm having is When Safe Mode is enabled , I cant start any ROM. I enabled Safe Mode and then restored a nandroid backup but it wont load. It hangs after the Moto boot screen. The only way it seems to work is if I disable Safe Mode which in turn loads the previous ROM, so I'm always at square one. I'm sure I am doing this wrong, just not sure what exactly it is.

Looks like someone over at rootzwiki figured something out on this. According to the post, when in the bootloop, if you go back into recovery for a second time, and boot again, supposedly it lets you into the second ROM.
Here's the official post on it:

This guy loaded ICS from the Droid Kang version of RAZR and claims it's working....I was going to give it a try in a bit, and see if it works.

I've loaded it as well last week and it does work but there are too many issues. Besides the one he mentioned, when you turn the screen, it gets stuck in the horizontal view and wont revert back. Also, the above method doesnt work, at least not for me. Flashing a ROM does work though without going through those steps, I am just not having luck with flashing zip's of other kinds.
Cool. Jeff8732 didn't have a lot to say about it besides the keyboard didn't light up.
I also am a bit more interested in a CM9 based ROM, my understanding that's the one that Hashcode is working on....so I'll just hang tight and wait for that.

There is the link that I used.
Delete files
I was wondering if i could delete any of the safestrap backups from my SD card. It's using well over 3GB. Right now I have the following files in the backup folder:
Nonesafe:
cahce.ext3.tar
data.ext3.tar
nandroid.md5
osh.ext3.tar
system.ext3.tar
systemorig.ext3.tar
Orig:
data.ext3.tar
Safe:
data.ext3.tar
I was wondering, would it be safe to delete any of those?
Links fixed.
Two requests:
Add a shell option to the recovery menu. I really miss that feature (from AmonRa recovery on my G1).
Integrate kexec. We ought to be able to intercept the boot process and load any kernel we want, safely. On the XDAndroid builds we replace /init with a shell script that does a bunch of manipulation before exec'ing the real Android init. For a kexec boot you add a kernel argument to flag that it was kexec'd. If the shell script sees that argument, it knows kexec was already done and just passes the boot on thru. If it doesn't see the argument, it kexecs the kernel you want.
Follow this thread for more details. I also added a kexec option to our Powerdown menu (in addition to Shutdown and regular Reboot) to allow fast swapping between kernels.
http://lists.xdandroid.com/pipermail/xdandroid-dev/2011-May/000327.html
Come to think of it - can we partition the internal SD card? If so, we could create a new root partition as well. Could just use the external SD too if all else fails.

New XDA contributor! Found a way to get Google Now to work on my stock rooted OTA ICS Droid 4. Used Droid RAZR bootstrap for ICS and it worked on my D4 flawlessly. Boot to recovery through the app and flashed the Mickey version 7 without issue...hope this helps! If not...you know what to do, admins....

Pretty noobish here...I've rooted my D4 and got the bootsrap and installed the apk, I reboot with it, but what do I do next? Step by step? Thanks.

google now made my bluetooth act funky when trying voice commands, tried to use bootstrap to recover my backup and it failed on system.
I am now doing a fastboot restore
you have been warned.
I know the feeling...been through that with my Atrix, Bionics, RAZR, etc...thank God for the fast boot files! I'll grab those now...
Any additional details would be helpful. Did you try to flash the restore to stock file before trying to flash your back up? And did you use bootstrap to make the original back up or safestrap?
Thanks

I made the backup with the razr bootstrap, tried to restore the backup, it failed on restoring system.
I restored data manually (advanced) then it would go to the red M screen, then a blank screen with the backlight on.
I tried booting into stock recovery and a factory reset, didn't work.
Fastboot did though

I flashed the mikeyxda's version 7 online/offline with Safestrap to my safe system and it caused my safe system to boot loop. Unsafe system is working ok however.

But did you try flashing the stock zip in the same thread as the google now files? I would hope that file would have solved your problem without the need for rsd....

How did you flash mikeyxda's version 7 online/offline to your stock unsafe ROM? Did you install a ROM to the safe side and flash that? When I attempt to flash a zip to the unsafe I get the warning that I cannot flash a .zip in unsafe mode.

It is just name of the ROM, and the developer writes you clearly in the first blue field, in the first text line:
Android Base CM10.1.3. RC1 JellyBean
JellyBean is not ICS (ICS is 4.0.x) so you need Gapps for CM10.1x / Android 4.2.x
CyanogenMod 9 is based on ICS
HELP needed for RemICS Odin installation
Not sure whether to start a new thread or not so for the sake of making xda a little less cluttered i will first post my query here:
It refers to the RemICS ROM thread already mentioned
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2300693
This looks like a great ROM and i would like to do a one time flash using Odin
Are there any install methods using Odin. I see there is a full download on the page but it appears to be for a I9003. Have searched all over and not seen anything as yet
FYI: I am currently running DarkysROM JVQv10.2 Extreme Edition, firmware 2.3.4
Kernel Version 2.6.35.7-I9000XXJVQ-CL281085
thx in advance :good:

This isn't meant to be flashed via Odin.
Download the rom + addons + gapps + CM9 (you don't need CM9 gapps). You can download the rom + addons from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2075058
1.) Backup everything you need to- call logs, SMS, bookmarks, etc with Titanium or other methods of your choice
2.) Reboot into recovery. Perform the three wipe combo (data, cache, Dalvik)
3.) Flash CM9. You'll probably have to flash it twice- once for the kernel, another time for the rom. Let it boot.
4.) Once CM9 has booted, check that you still have reception.
5.) Reboot into recovery again and do the wipe combo. This time choose to flash the base rom. You'll need to flash it three times- once due to the incompatible partition (first flash overcomes this), another time for the kernel, a third time for the rom.
6.) Once the base rom's finished flashing, reboot. Check you still have your IMEI- you'll know if you still have reception.
7.) Reboot to recovery, flash addons (flash Addons then Addons_V1)
8.) Reboot
9.) Back to recovery (AGAIN), flash gapps.
Unfortunately a one-time flash with Odin isn't possible. But the endless flashes you have to do for RemICS V6 is well worth it

thx for reply
thx for your reply and apologies for getting back to you late.
If only i could do it the way you suggested but for some reason (me) i have messed the phone so that it now no longer is able to mount the external SDCard so putting the relevent zip files on the ext card is useless because in recovery mode using CWM these files fail to show.
I note that via CWM it shows the card as unmounted. If i try and do a mount it fails.
any ideas?
thx

What about your internal storage?
Sent from my GT-P7510 using Tapatalk HD
Here is where my noob-ness kicks in.
What internal storage is available by default on the Note1? Is it just the internal sdcard?
what puzzled me when I last flashed with odin (repeated it a number of times as I was trying to get the device to recognise ext sd card) to get the current Darky Extreme rom on (which is working fine no problem at all) is that there was still some relic directory structure left over. These were all empty folders visible when navigating within CWM. Didn't matter what type of formatting I did they wouldn't go. To summarise: much confusion and something got twisted.
So questions arising are:
-How to nuke the internal disk/card properly so there are no remnants prior to me doing another darky reinstall?
-Then, how to copy a zip file to internal card but still have it remain after the format and wipes that would precede a zip install?
-How to fix the device to mount the ext sdcard? FYI other sdcards can't be mounted either. I have tried 4 different ones. And here's the kicker-once booted I go to file manager and there I can see and access all the files/folders on the external card!!! So it's definitely a phone problem as opposed to a sdcard problem. Something got flagged along the line.

Any custom rom - Boot loop

I've tried in twrp and cwm/cwm touch - I get a boot loop no matter which rom I flash
I made a backup of my stock 404 on cwm and twerp so It's easily reversible in either.
Similar to this post - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=45795997#post45795997
It involves flashing Pi-llama 1.4 via adb and then installing the custom rom over the top.
Ran into all sorts of issues, would hang on the third data write, so I cancel it and then it would continue etc... and install
Now I'm up and running I've got half PiLlama and this rom I put on, battery drain is bad and the clock process crashes when I try and set an alarm. Otherwise it's great.
Any ideas? Seems to be the data partition causing the problems.
I'm rooted and unlocked, thought I'd add.

I you want to flash a custom rom just don't wipe data and don't do a format /wipe data
The problem with that is it has previous rom stuff still installed.
I like a clean fresh install of a rom, so no contacts, messages, apps etc...
There is no way to do this without a bootloop.

Boot loop.
Get to the rom boot animation and it does the updating apps then boot loops back to the moto screen and rom animation then repeats until i power off and restore a backup.
Thank you both for suggestions so far. Getting closer to solving

Yes, I'm using cwm. Tried touch and twrp.
Tried the above, same bootloop.
Only works if i leave my stock 404, push pillama 1.4 via adb and then flash the custom ROM over that in cwm.
This leaves residue from 404 and pillama on my phone though.

Does stock 404 mean, you are still on ICS?
If so why don't you flash JB with RSD-Lite and try again installing a custom rom?
Can u make a logcat about it?

So I tried RSD lite with Android 4.1.2 Blur_Version.91.2.26001.XT890.Retail.en.EU
No dice. Failed at 7/16 System_Signed
This royally put me in a bad place. 45 minutes of ADB later, I'm back on my CWM backup of 404.
Gonna clean the logs and start from scratch

I have the same problem and I am on Stock 4.1.2. I have given up and no longer have a rooted phone with a custom ROM. I would, however, be grateful if someone could find a solution
If you are on 404 and trying to get to 4.1.2 you can root your phone then use the following method to unroot and install 4.1.2. You can then root again if you wish.

Thank you will give that a go.
I've got a problem now after trying the official 4.1.2 upgrade which failed miserably, the boot image has changed to the warning unlocked phone bla bla bla
My SMS centre number keeps disappearing stopping texts sending. Receiving and calling work fine. Tried the fixes online but all work for two minutes then it disappears again.
Can't factory reset, just boots back up with everything as it was when it turned off. Can't get into the stock recovery so stuck with CWM or twrp
Any time I flash a rom it boot loops.
Ideas on how I can get a clean official 4.1.2 onto the phone? Re-lock bootloader, remove root and then try?
So locking bootloader and removing root does not work.
I'd advise anyone that doesn't know what they're doing to avoid it.
It pretty much soft bricked my phone.
I've started a new thread in q&a with another issue regarding multi flash in fastboot hanging on the third or fourth download.
Im certain parts of the 4.1 are still there even after formatting everything in cwm and restoring my original backup.
Having network issues, 3g and wifi etc are fine. Sms, calls and anything to do with changing network operator just stops a few minutes after boot. I can still receive fine which is odd.
What's the deal with putting a radio on over an official ROM? Yey or ney
