Wow...Apple is really powerful! Apple took out Sammy in Australia. If Sammy wants to sell the Galaxy Tab 2 in AUS, they have to submit it to Apple for approval.

-me like Android, in many ways,!! ..<
Original article:
http://www.businessweek.com/news/20...amsung-tablet-sales-in-australia-on-hold.html
Basically they've agreed not to sell or advertise it without giving 3 to Apple 7 days before they release it for sale in Oz.
So they can sell it as long as they comply with that agreement.
They save on advertising, drum up more interest, and are still able to release it on the planned date.
To recap:
Samsung are able to release it as planned but agreed not to advertise it before release date.
Three lucky apple employees get to play with the new tablet 7 days before everyone else.
Apple has some big stones. theyre probably going to look at why android has bigger market share and then copy it.

I know a couple of news papers that could do with your out-of-context, misrepresented, reporting of an Engadget story
Xaccers gives a much more accurate account.
The other thing not mentioned is that if Apple loose the case against Samsung then Apple have to pay damages to Samsung. Its basically a "gentlemens agreement" by the looks of it - and as said, Samsung get free advertising!
samsung all the way
android rocks
Looks like Sammy isn't bothered by Apple's concerns. Sammy intends to sell a different, non-violating, version of the Galaxy Tab in AUS from the restricted US version.
http://www.engadget.com/2011/08/02/samsung-will-release-galaxy-tab-10-1-in-australia-despite-apple/
So engadget not only don't bother to read the sourse article properly, but they also don't bother to read their own articles!
Both earlier artiles mention that Samsung planned to sell the Asia version not the US version in Oz.
And people thought News of the World journalists were unprofessional...
Whoa! Sammy is getting really, really bold. Sounds like they might get themselves in the sights of George Lucas if they continue with that attitude...lol

apple took features that have been on android since the freakin' g1
My 2 cents on Apple (the first "real" computer I programmed on was an Apple II in Assembly and Basic....). So much for my age...
- Great design - both industrial and interface-wise
- fabulous marketing and advertising - they could spin a leaky radioactive battery into a great new feature....got to hand it to them
- It just works
- Piss poor attitude and positioning (my way or the court)
- You want what? "User freedom" Llllloooooolllllll....User freedom means WE KNOW BEST, righty?
- Innovation ? Yeah, we get to define what that means (like callling putting a camera on a phone an "innovation" in 2010....)
Well, once you open up the gates by allowing software patents on stuff like "look and feel", you get what you asked for - and Apple "borrowed" quite a lot of *that* on the early macs from real old Xerox Parc work in the 60/70's....look up "Alan Kay", PARC, "Dan Ingalls", "Douglas Engelbart" and so on. So neither the look or the feel is really theirs.
****. I used the "A***" (hint: fruit from a tree which grows in orchards) word. May I get sued for unauthorized use of THAT?

I am opposed to patent lawsuits due to it being a far too lax, broad, and generally bs system in the US as it concerns technology patents. But Apple deserves every lawsuit filed against. I have had something against Apple ever since they decided to make their company a cult of personality around Steve Jobs and Apple. They want to play holier than thou in court? Then they should put up with the other side rolling up their sleeves and fighting back.
Complaining about anticompetitiveness. PAH. They just forced Samsung to stop selling Galaxy Tabs entirely in Europe through bs patent fighting. Apple deserves every single case filed against it.

The man and his people developed a technology that indirectly was the cause for the fevored development of Android. If it weren't for the desire to find a product that could compete with the iPhone/iPod, Android may not be what it is today.
He was a visionary, who was hand in hand with Bill Gates and Windows, his path took him in a different direction than Windows. He did what he did, very well, and just because his iOS was locked down, didn't mean he had an inferior product.
We, in our own way here in XDA have become our own version of snobs. "If it's not open source so we can do what we want/when we want; it's no good"
I think we need to remember that there is a whole different world of folk who just want to use their devices, not hack the crap out of it; and that's ok too.
His products may not be for me, and like all things, have their own set of faults. But in the end his work has made a enormous impact on the development of hardware/software, which has impacted all of us.
Agree or not with him or his beliefs, I think we would all be best served to honor the impact anyone has on our lives

That's actually the reason for Apple's success with a large demographic, just not all. Every detail is designed with fewer things to think about. Locked down OS, fewer settings (what you hear as "cleaner interface"), no replacable battery or SD card, one mouse button (older Macs), etc. The out of sight out of mind philosophy flows throughout. I often joke about them being better for OCD/ADD and such, which actually has some truth to it.
People come in all shapes and sizes. Some want or even need simplicity and some want (and need) flexibility, expandability and programability. It's just hard for many to understand that what's good for them is not for good someone else.
Apple is not the owner of the name "iPad".
Source (in Dutch) http://www.allaboutphones.nl/nieuws/8432-page-0/addReaction.
A chinese judge ruled that the name iPad belongs to a chinese company, as it patented the name before Apple.
They can`t use the name iPad anymore in China, or in fact anywhere in the world if the chinese company orders it.
They are going to sue Apple for 1.5 billion $.

In fact you`re right, BUT with Apple suing almost every company and device (especialy android) this imo can be put in the general section for once, this has never happend to Apple .
From my understanding, that Chinese company only holds the trademark in China. it won't effect any ipad sales anywhere else
lol
Lets just hope those chineese guys dont just settle down with some money, Better not settle for any cost
They did settle when they sold the rights to the name for the rest of the world. The asking price is just that. They will sell for much less but at least now it will not be free like Apple thought.

This thing that Apple is suing every freaking mobile companies/manufactures with their (stolen) patents is really a shame. Look at this very last new of ITC banning the importation and selling of certain HTC phone in US. Whoever buys any new Apple products enable the company to become stronger and stronger, unfortunately not in a good way. Apple is trying so hard and at any cost to get rid of the mobile concurrence. This means hijacking the mobile marketing, which will eventually realize the company's dream to capitalize and control the entire mobile markering worldwide. If we are all a little bit clever, we should really open a campaign and let everyone know what the company plans really are, what they are doing, and work something together to stop this shame.
Please share this, have ur say and let everyone know what is going on, what they are really buying today and what consequence their purchase might cause.

Yea thats true.. Although I am sure there's still someone who doesn't know it and would like to stay away from powering up a company that plans to capitalize and get in control of everything.
A clear message needs to be sent...
i really don't know what apple is trying to do, sueing all the world.. maybe next will be eve cause she bit an apple???
by the way, reading everything is good to know HTC, and maybe Google already have a solution for this patent infrigments, so the android user experience will always be better than iphonish one...
I see no reason for either panic or concern. First of all, look at the range of devices affected: v1.6 - v2.2 You can't even purchase new HTC device with Froyo or older OS. Second, HTC already responded that they do have a workaround in the pipeline that would diminish all claims Apple's suit made.
Take a step back and try to look at the bigger picture. Ask yourself, why is Apple suing Samsung, HTC, etc? My theory is very simple; Apple's runaway success ran out of steam and they losing ground to Android quicker then Apple engineers are able to put together a new product. Earlier today Andy Rubin bragged about 700,000 daily activations. Simply put, Apple is scared of competition. Nay, they are scared ****less. Since they can't compete by innovating they choose to fight by litigating.
If there is one thing I have agreed with Jobs on, was his musing that "market will sort everything out". It looks like market already did just that and the new is not good for Apple, hence the lawsuits.

Obviously you don't know what ur talking about (take it as a polite way to call you troll).
What Apple has been doing ever since it joined the IT market back in 1985 is to steal other ideas and projects in a legal manner, then patent them and use them against any company/manufactures.
Btw Apple calls this "REINVENTING". Just like they reinvented the phone, reinvented the way to interact between apps, DLNA, the cloud, the pull down notification bar, and the list goes on on and on..
I think I said pretty much all..
Apple business model will fail not now but in the future. What apple is trying to do is to stall it in a way. They already knew sole proprietary will fail, they almost went under at the start..
Steve jobs started a vendetta againts the android os. This is common knowledge. He got mad that someone in his company said NO left and made a product just as good.
My thing is how and why would apple try to sue something that isnt even their os. Thats like microsoft suing apple for a double click to open a file. Or adobe suing java, its childish.
Or ford suing all car manufacturers for having a break pedal.
Noting was stolen, apple has its own OS and android has theirs.
In my opinion suing for how a devices behaves. Its stupid dumb and im surprised the judges havent said that.

And you are wrong. (call it a polite way of calling you a liar). Apple never steals. They never stole from IBM or Xerox. If a tech is owned by another company, Apple will license it if the need it...or buy it.

Patents are the most rediculus things I have ever seen...
Patents should be used for something totally unique in innovation like design and stuff and not for something that is like a building block of every other phone too...
And buying someone else's patents is bull****...it shows that the company is not innovative and steal others ideas and just keeps on bragging that they have done all the innovations....
Talking about stealing...apple has also stolen other's stuff like the drop down notification bar, siri etc etc...but google and other companies never patent everything they innovate because they know that somethings are crusial for every phone and its very anti innovative to patent those things...
I wonder what will happen when the Patent Office starts accepting patents for things other than technology...then the whole world will start suing each other...and another world war will begin...
And look what Steve Jobs said in his biography that he can even go for a bio nuclear war to stop android....which shows how greedy he is that he can destroy the whole world just for something **** like iPhone...
And people want to move towards open source bacause its very innovative and free too...

Typical. People who hate Apple focus on one tiny little thing they do and ignore the mountain of violations the other companies have been doing against Apple for years.
And Apple owns Siri. They bought the technology from the creator of an Apple app and improved it and made it more perfect. That's what Apple does.

Sorry to enrage you and make you be a false witness. All that I said, I said with calmness and rationality. What you read into it, you read from your own emotions. So, my apologies for controlling your emotions and making you do something against your will.

This just in: Apple owns another patent. They don't steal, they own.

LOOOOOOOL. I didn't even need to click on that, it's in the link itself: "ignores prior art". So yeah, Apple owns. They own things they didn't actually invent! Awesome! Not!

How is it backwards? Is the NB patented? Are any of the iOS 5 features patented by anyone other than Apple?

This is the typical Apple fan mode of operation:
Apple Fan: "Apple invented all this stuff!!"
Someone: "Err, no they didn't. There was this, that and the other stuff, which Apple copied."
Apple Fan: "Yeah, well, Apple owns the patents!!"
Suddenly it's not important anymore that Apple hasn't invented anything. And they're completely oblivious how what this does is point to the brokenness of the patent system, as opposed to pointing to the supposed brilliance of Apple.

And Apple owns Siri. They bought the technology from the creator of an Apple app and improved it and made it more perfect. That's what Apple does.

But, but, but... I thought Apple is this brilliant inventor! Now you're telling me that the biggest "revolution" of IOS5 wasn't invented by Apple? How's that work?
Apple is reportedly negotiating with Android manufacturers to license its patent portfolio as it continues to pile up the ammunition such negotiations will need.
The news comes from the Dow Jones news wire, which talked to the omniscient "people familiar with the matter", and discovered that Apple plans to abandon its policy of all-out nuclear war with Android - a conflict led by Apple co-founder Steve Jobs, who was hell bent on annihilating Google's mobile operating system.

It's funny because android will be becoming the most expensive OS despite being the most poorly coded. This opens windows phone tango to release low-end devices while even the low end android devices will have to pay an additional $30ish dollars per handset. That will make the cheaper OEMs who want what they can use for cheap look at windows phone as the only viable option. It's just Microsoft and Apple playing smart against their younger, more naive competitor. Apple would rather see themselves back on top with wp7 following than see google and their... Business practices leading the way.

Google has been in the software game a LONG time (in terms of software companies that remain relevant). I wouldn't sell them so short. Keep in mind they compete with Zune and iTunes with Google Music, they pwn e-mail with gmail, they own search with Google Search, they're getting up there with Google+ competing with Twitter and Facebook and Android pwns all current mobile operating systems...
...
...and you call them naive? There isn't a software pie on earth Google doesn't have 2 fingers in and they've been in competition with pretty much every software company you can name in one way or another. You have to believe they'll come out of this either just as screwed as apple or just as good as apple.
I personally see this as a good thing. This will lead to more innovation both by Google and their partners as well as for Apple. All in all, this is a good thing for the mobile marketplace and will further innovation rather than the usual "bashing over the head with a club" that we've seen as of late.
This will benefit Android a lot since this means (hopefully) that we won't be seeing the likes of the lawsuits we've seen in the past that resulted in Android phones being pulled off shelves due to some lawsuit.
This is good for both sides since they either steal or borrow each others new/featuring features to their phones can u imagine iTunes running on Android or customization featured on a new IPhone? This is good for both companies they both have their fan base and its gonna be hard to steal customers away from each other since half the people hate iPhones and half the people hate Android
they already steal stuff from each other ie iPhone notification dropdown. can't believe there's no lawsuit about that
