the next-gen iphone name ideas thread

so apparently there are these bunchful of gossips around regarding the upcoming releasse of what is known to be the 'iphone 5', in roughly 3 months or so...
although not being a strong supporter of apple gadgets myself, I would be interested to here what you guys think about this...
what are the chaces of the next iphone to be called something like the
iPhone 4G instead of iPhone5 ??

Because rather than win back market share by improving their product, they've chosen to stiffle competition by using lawyers.
My question would be "how could you have any respect for apple in the first place?" considering what an awful company they are and how badly they treat their customers (as a company, not as customer facing staff).
In 1994 Steve Jobs closed down all philanthropic activities at apple to save money. Now they have "more money than the US gov" those activities still haven't been restarted.
People slate Bill Gates and microsoft, but they forget the Gates foundation gives more money to help aids victims in the developing world than the rest of the world combined.

Yup. He might be a pr1ck when it comes to business, but he pr1cks around well.
Steve Jobs used his money and resources to save his own life, and only AFTER experiencing the hell that was cancer did he even have the inkling to give a little to the community.
Gates, for all the evil that he started in Micro$oft, is planning to give away HALF of his worth. He's pushing for education and technology that will change the world, and I am almost ready to forgive him, and then somebody pointed out Windows Vista.
ADDENDUM: ROTFL, OT is really OT, I forgot to even mention the OP in my first post!

Oh as a company they'll be fine, but last time he took ill their stock dropped a fair bit.
With him actually leaving it would have dropped considerably, therefore temporarily devaluing the company.

I hope he gets well also, cancer is a very..very tough battle.

Though I'm not a big fan of Apple products still sad to see this happen, the type of things Apple produced during his time there were amazing.

As much as im not a fan of crapple i wish Steve nothing but the best. "Maybe patent wars will stop now??" says the troll. The answer is no...Steve was just a puppet leader....sort of like Manchuria in the 40-70's. The decisions were made by the legal team so i've got nothing against him.

I don't agree with the way he goes about business, but I never wish harm upon another human being. Hope if his resignation is related to his health issues that they make a turn for the better without the responsibilities that come with a position like he was holding... it's amazing how detrimental a high stress job can be to your health.
Certainly one of the most iconic businessmen of his age. Hats off to Steve.

Apple is going to slowly fade into the background just like Windows Mobile did, and PalmOS, and WebOS and all other that came before it
I wonder what would be the next big OS to challenge Android after this.
Steve rescued Apple from the blink of bankruptcy... actually they did, but it was thanks to Microsoft they stayed afloat
so Steve introduced the coloured toiled looking iMacs, and that was a crazy hit, then it came the iPod, that scored them big time, with the introduction to iTunes, to make music downloading easy for n00bs
with the success of iPod the went beyond to develop iPod touch, which was Apple's pre-staging to launch iPhone, they used iPod touch to sort out all the bugs, and get things close to perfect before releasing iPod touch
that was another big score for Apple, at that time there was no much competition from either front for music / phones
Apple's finally launched the iPhone, and well the world went wild after that, and with the introduction later to the AppStore, things got even more exiting, still no competition at the time.
That's how Apple surfed the big waves, and kept racking in money when no body else had good stuff in the market.
back at those times Windows Mobile was ... better than crap, PalmOS was dying, if not done for already. WebOS was barely born, and Android was just a pre beta/alpha stage.
Steve excelled at marketing ideas and presentation, but none of it was fresh or new, he just made it look better.
Everything that Apple released was already existing in the market, just never popularized by any marketing team of any company.
That's the power of marketing
get everyone hyped up, and you get tons of sales, specially target the young audiences, and make everything hip.
that's a good lesson that Google learned well and applied to their products and brand.

Completely agree, besides their company policy is really NASTY, so even if their products may be cool I would never buy/buyed any fruit products.

Sheesh! Google has a history that is completely obscure to the general public. Apple says Android's Rubin worked for them in the '90s. APIs are a product of Apple, according to what they are saying.

Apple is desperate. Their attempts to litigate Android products from the market are not working. So even if it probably really is just smoke and PR maneuvers with nothing substantial behind it, in their desperation Apple will do anything.

Nice try on stirring up the pot. WP7 is nothing, will never be anything. Look at how terrible it is doing in this market. Apple and Google will continue to claw it out in phone sales while Microsoft sits on the sidelines. None of the general public goes into a best buy or at&t looking for a WP7, nor will they walk out with one. They want a cool looking OS and phone and some variety to choose from. Not some bleak tiles invented by a first grade class.

"WhatsApp, Inc. starts negotiations with search giant Google"
"Nokia is taken aboard by Google"
When that happens, (without going off-topic and trying to prove my point), Google will dominate and Android will be everything we'll see.

Now that would be sweet! A fantastic thing, for sure. The goodness of Android mixed with the superior hardware and build quality of Apple.
Even more than that, let Apple adopt Android and finesse and smooth it out to their higher standards. What an overwhelming affair.

We should let everyone know what shame Apple is doing

This thing that Apple is suing every freaking mobile companies/manufactures with their (stolen) patents is really a shame. Look at this very last new of ITC banning the importation and selling of certain HTC phone in US. Whoever buys any new Apple products enable the company to become stronger and stronger, unfortunately not in a good way. Apple is trying so hard and at any cost to get rid of the mobile concurrence. This means hijacking the mobile marketing, which will eventually realize the company's dream to capitalize and control the entire mobile markering worldwide. If we are all a little bit clever, we should really open a campaign and let everyone know what the company plans really are, what they are doing, and work something together to stop this shame.
Please share this, have ur say and let everyone know what is going on, what they are really buying today and what consequence their purchase might cause.

Yea thats true.. Although I am sure there's still someone who doesn't know it and would like to stay away from powering up a company that plans to capitalize and get in control of everything.
A clear message needs to be sent...

i really don't know what apple is trying to do, sueing all the world.. maybe next will be eve cause she bit an apple???
by the way, reading everything is good to know HTC, and maybe Google already have a solution for this patent infrigments, so the android user experience will always be better than iphonish one...

I see no reason for either panic or concern. First of all, look at the range of devices affected: v1.6 - v2.2 You can't even purchase new HTC device with Froyo or older OS. Second, HTC already responded that they do have a workaround in the pipeline that would diminish all claims Apple's suit made.
Take a step back and try to look at the bigger picture. Ask yourself, why is Apple suing Samsung, HTC, etc? My theory is very simple; Apple's runaway success ran out of steam and they losing ground to Android quicker then Apple engineers are able to put together a new product. Earlier today Andy Rubin bragged about 700,000 daily activations. Simply put, Apple is scared of competition. Nay, they are scared ****less. Since they can't compete by innovating they choose to fight by litigating.
If there is one thing I have agreed with Jobs on, was his musing that "market will sort everything out". It looks like market already did just that and the new is not good for Apple, hence the lawsuits.

I believe the other tech companies should stop copying Apple. They are the ones to be shamed, not Apple. If they hadn't copied Apple's products, Apple would not be suing. Blaming and hating Apple is like a criminal blaming and hating their victim for fighting back.

Ugh, you have it completely backwards. I remember watching Job's last keynote and chuckling every time he presented a "new", "revolutionary", and of course "magical" feature in IOS 5. Notifications complete with pulldown status bar! Cloud services! OTA updates!!!!

How is it backwards? Is the NB patented? Are any of the iOS 5 features patented by anyone other than Apple?

Obviously you don't know what ur talking about (take it as a polite way to call you troll).
What Apple has been doing ever since it joined the IT market back in 1985 is to steal other ideas and projects in a legal manner, then patent them and use them against any company/manufactures.
Btw Apple calls this "REINVENTING". Just like they reinvented the phone, reinvented the way to interact between apps, DLNA, the cloud, the pull down notification bar, and the list goes on on and on..

Apple business model will fail not now but in the future. What apple is trying to do is to stall it in a way. They already knew sole proprietary will fail, they almost went under at the start..
Steve jobs started a vendetta againts the android os. This is common knowledge. He got mad that someone in his company said NO left and made a product just as good.
My thing is how and why would apple try to sue something that isnt even their os. Thats like microsoft suing apple for a double click to open a file. Or adobe suing java, its childish.
Or ford suing all car manufacturers for having a break pedal.
Noting was stolen, apple has its own OS and android has theirs.
In my opinion suing for how a devices behaves. Its stupid dumb and im surprised the judges havent said that.

Patents are the most rediculus things I have ever seen...
Patents should be used for something totally unique in innovation like design and stuff and not for something that is like a building block of every other phone too...
And buying someone else's patents is bull****...it shows that the company is not innovative and steal others ideas and just keeps on bragging that they have done all the innovations....
Talking about stealing...apple has also stolen other's stuff like the drop down notification bar, siri etc etc...but google and other companies never patent everything they innovate because they know that somethings are crusial for every phone and its very anti innovative to patent those things...
I wonder what will happen when the Patent Office starts accepting patents for things other than technology...then the whole world will start suing each other...and another world war will begin...
And look what Steve Jobs said in his biography that he can even go for a bio nuclear war to stop android....which shows how greedy he is that he can destroy the whole world just for something **** like iPhone...

Typical. People who hate Apple focus on one tiny little thing they do and ignore the mountain of violations the other companies have been doing against Apple for years.
And Apple owns Siri. They bought the technology from the creator of an Apple app and improved it and made it more perfect. That's what Apple does.

This is the typical Apple fan mode of operation:
Apple Fan: "Apple invented all this stuff!!"
Someone: "Err, no they didn't. There was this, that and the other stuff, which Apple copied."
Apple Fan: "Yeah, well, Apple owns the patents!!"
Suddenly it's not important anymore that Apple hasn't invented anything. And they're completely oblivious how what this does is point to the brokenness of the patent system, as opposed to pointing to the supposed brilliance of Apple.

I was so happy today when I learned that Google is suing Apple...
Google claims that Apple is violating their patents and thus all the imports of the iPhone, iPad, and Mac computers need to stop immediately. I really hope they win because Apple deserves a taste of their own medicine.

In a related matter..Apple won in the Apple vs. Samsung lawsuit but Google suing Apple is still in the process. There is still some hope left. If Google wins then its a major victory but after Samsung's loss it just seems more unlikely

At least Apple can't buy their way out of patent disputes with Google like they could with most others because Google has the means and incentive to fight them all the way, and hopefully Google is gonna do what we all hope and use all those Motorola patents to defend manufacturers using Android and maybe get Apple off the S3's back.

Hopefully... Google wins but I can see this case going on for years. At the end, I think its just going to be a settle for an undisclosed amount...

It's more likely Google ends up promising to drop the case if Apple drops some of their current and future legal actions.
