Hi first of all sorry for post here but its kind of urgent i just bought a LG GT540R on ebay for my boyfriend but i realise about a detail and hope you can help with this doubt i have:
1. What is the difference between LG GT540R and LG GT540G as mine is G and i cant find specifications for the R version
2. Carrier is from Rogers Wireless and my bf is on Telus phone will come unlocked and the Cellular Band is: Wcdma (UMTS) / GSM 850/900/1800/1900 will he have any problem cause of this specifications? Im from equador so i have no idea about that band mine is HSPA / GSM 850/900/1800/1900.
Hope someone answer soon !!!
Thanks in advance
Veronica

as far as im aware the letters mean what carrier they are locked to. not to shore though.

Yeah "R" designation is for carrier that bought bulk order from lg.
MY ANDROIDSKY

The specs should be same! Hope it helps Nica? Svlh
MY ANDROIDSKY

It should work, bcos WCDMA is UMTS/HSDPA/HSPA+.
If your phone works in this band, his phone will work too. I think G,R,N maybe will differ bcos it have maybe another apps

I guess you can use it, as you have specified Mini is GSM 850/900.
Though in US, there are contracts that could be made with T-Mobile, Sprint etc.

[Q] Carriers/network frequencies

I just purchased an unlocked Optimus black, I have inserted my sim card and can connect, however it doesn't seem to go into 3g mode. My Carrier is Rogers, (Canada). When I look in the Settings/.../Network Mode the options I have are GSM/WCDMA (auto mode) or WCDMA only or GSM only. Does this mean the phone will not do 3G on Rogers? Rogers is a GSM Carrier.
When I checked the frequencies (@gsmarena) for the phone prior to purchasing, it listed 2 "HSDPA 900 / 1700 / 2100" & "HSDPA 900 / 1900 / 2100" my current phone matches the second one so I assumed all was good, have I erred in assuming the phone supports both when in actuality it only supports one depending on which 'sub' model you get?
Accept my apologies if I have asked this question in the wrong area, and tell me to bugger off after pointing me in the right direction.

What do you mean by unlocked OB? Is it other than P970?
The P970 (Normal OB) can't be networked locked in the first place.
And yes it's in the right place .

The phone was advertised as unlocked and that it could be used with any GSM carrier. In the past when I had called a different carrier searching for better rates I was told it was ok to use my phone on their networks if it was unlocked so I made sure I didn't purchase a locked phone. So was that really redundant, this model can't be locked?
I think the problem I have is this phone doesn't appear to work on one of the frequencies I need (HSDPA/HSUPA 850). I compared the specs at gsmarena for my existing phone and for the OB, like I said in the first post, I thought they had similar frequencies. After posting this question I looked into it more, the specs for my existing phone at the manufacturers website differ, they show HSDPA/HSUPA at 900/1900/2100 MHz or 850/900/1900/2100 MHz. Then I researched the networks used by the carriers and sure enough Rogers is UMTS 850/1900 as are the other carriers here.

P970 can't be locked.
The sprint variant (LG Marquee) of the OB can be locked though, not sure about the Japanese and Korean variants though.
What firmware are you using? Perhaps it will be a good idea to use your countries firmware.
Just use the official LG Updater to install the firmware.

I forget now what the original version (V10something) was because since then I have managed to totally mess it up, it now has no imei# ...
As I said in my first post the issue was with 'data' performance it was pathetic, I did not see this phone show a 3g icon when connected and when I measured the speed it was reminiscent of performance we experienced a few years ago prior to 3g.
So I flashed it, with a patched V20J... oops, this is where things went from bad to worse. Somewhere during my troubleshooting research I noticed that this wasn't a P970. Although this is what was advertised in the sale, it is in fact a KU5900. I thought no problem I will download a korean firmware, that sounds easier than the reality though, I can't download the korean firmware from lg-phone-firmware.com probably because I am in Canada, I even tried to do it through a korean proxy, didn't work.
I found a link here to the V30I firmware that I could download, flashed that, bricked the sucker. Fixed the brick by putting the V20J back, found your post re. dd the imei to mmcblk0p11, it didn't work, perhaps this is one of the differences in the KU5900? And yes I did see your heading warning it was for a P970 only but figured what have I got to loose
I did try the LG updater it failed, come to think of it this is where I found out it was a KU5900, of course I tried that after the fact, and I found your thread about re-writing the nvram with advise to back it up first, after the fact.
Now to address the locking portion of your reply, I purchased a P970 on the day you replied to this thread. From a different carrier, they had a great deal on their plans and I needed to jump on it then and there, although I had purchased a new phone the deal also included a phone so I grabbed the 'same' an optimus black. This phone will only work with the sim they provided, when I put in my Rogers sim it wouldn't work, I tried setting it up manually, nothing. This is what I understand as being locked, whether the correct terminology is network locked or not I have no idea.
On a side note, the seller has agreed to replace the phone, unfortunately I believe that even though they have confirmed it will be a P970, I will end up with another KU5900, I couldn't care less providing I have access to KU5900 firmware which seems to be a bit of a challenge.

[Q] Enable Tmobile AWS (3g/4g) on International / Developer Edition HTC One

Is anyone working on getting the Tmobile HSPA+ 3G spectrum up and running on the international/ At&T / Developer Edition of the HTC One?
Out of the box the unlocked versions only support Tmobile 2g Edge speeds and the newly refarmed 4g LTE on the 1900 spectrum.
The carrier branded phones are almost $150 more than the unlocked versions and the hardware is "technically" there for all of the frequencies. What are the chances that we will have a solution, similiar to the below, found on the ATT Galaxy Note 2? I'd be willing to donate for a workaround.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2068041
At a minimum you'd need s-off to flash a different radio. Until you (we) have a working method to get s-off there is zero chance of this happening.

This was a concern of mine as I'm off contract with ATT already and may jump ship. If you look deeper than the word "quad" and actually look at the bands supported vs what the carriers use vs network coverage, you would have found out that
A) Tmo "3G/4G" runs on AWS (700/2100) (really should be called HSPA+42)
B)Tmo have refarmed a some bands to support "3G" on 1900 (HSPA+21)
C)Tmo LTE is not everywhere
which means... if you are not in a refarmed area (which again is not everywhere) you will be either on LTE or Edge.
So.... refer to the top link for hope. Which is S-off and a flash of the radios (the chip itself should have all the bands).
ehh its late... I basically repeated what the OP said.
I was under the impression that an s-on radio flash solution had been posted already.

Has anyone figured this out yet using the QPST method in the Qualcomm software like we do with Samsung?

T-Mobile Moto x question - activation

I know that tmobile moto x is not carrier/sim locked, read it in many threads here.
But does it need to be activated with tmobile sim first time?

T-Mobile Networks
Well, I hope it's true that the T-Mobile comes with the Sim unlocked... I think I'll buy it tomorrow with the promotion of the cyber-monday extension.
But I'm a little worried about the T-mobile version network support, you see, most people, including me, of my country buy Unlocked ATT variants from the US, because here we only have these networks:
850 - Movistar / C&W Panama
1900 - Claro
1800/1900 - Digicel
I'm with Claro so I'll need 1900.
Since most of the ATT variants work with those bands, people over here buy those... While T-Mobile variants don't. But now I'm seeing that the Moto X from T-Mobile supports four 2G GSM bands (850/900/1800/1900) and comes with five UMTS bands (850/900/1700/1900/2100).
I'm not checking the LTE capabilities, since my country hasn't implemented it yet, and when they will, I'll probably won't use it after some years ($$$).
So, does this phone really works for me? I thought of buying an ATT variant but it seems some persons here (xda community) had problems unlocking the sim... (I don't mind paying to get it unlocked) One even posted that couldn't unlocked, used all the tries and had to put it on sale trough eBay :crying:
Well, what do you guys think of this...? Really, really crossing my fingers here :fingers-crossed: (Just checking the bands here, not much interested on rooting the phone, actually scared too. Don't wan't to hard brick anything )

If the T-Mo one supports the bands you need then why roll the dice with the AT&T version? If you really want the AT&T version and AT&T won't unlock it for you then you can just return it. If you want to get in on the sale price and don't want to risk anything then buy one of each so at least you will have the T-Mo one to fall back on. Just some suggestions. I am not really familiar with bands and sim unlocking and how it's done.

Oh, just wanted to be extra sure that this version will work with the bands available here at Panama... Guess there's nothing weird with that variant of the Moto X having 5 UMTS bands instead of 4 like the others.
Anyway, I'll post my feedback later when I buy and get the product, wish me luck and thanks :victory:

Guys... look at this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2546466&highlight=sim+network+unlock
From what the whole thread states the tmobile version is sim unlocked out of the box even through moto maker. In fact they are stating that there is little difference between the tmobile and dev edition.
So from the whole thread there I will pruchase tmobile. Verizon is unlocked but does not have the correct radios for my countries 3g network. Att does but I do not want to have to go through the hastle of unlocking it... even if its simple to buy a code.

Also go to the companies and ask what bands they work with expecially the 3g and 4g. I know first hand that Verizon does not support most of the bands in central america... Ive had verizon phones here and they only get 2g sometimes. And good luck with going to the companies... most people there have no idea... and they will stare at you with a blank look on their face when you ask about bands and will probably try to sell you a phone. So be patient.
Also... keep us updated!!

[Q] Moto x compatibility in UAE

Hey,
Guys need your urgent help.
I love this phone and have been waiting to buy it for a long time. I prefer the customized version from Moto Maker that is available in US only and not in other countries. My friend is due to travel from US to Dubai by end of this month and I can finally get my hands on the customized version.
Before continuing please bear that my knowledge on this subject is very new.
I have few concerns. I live in UAE where the freq bands by the network provider are 900&1800 Mhz for GSM, 2100 Mhz UMTS, and LTE 3&7 (1800& 2600 Mhz). My concerns are:
1. I doubt the 4G will work. I think Moto x supports a different band for LTE/4G than the one supported by network providers in UAE. So the 4g will not work for Moto X in Dubai correct?
2. If 4G does not work, will the Moto x function with the 3G service provided by network providers here?
I dont know if I understand this topic thoroughly, so let me put my concern in very layman terms - Will a Moto X bought from the Moto Maker store in US, work with UAE network providers 3G service?
I dont want to end up spending 400$ for a phone that wont function fast enough; problem is I want a wooden finish customized phone - one which isnt available in UAE.
Please please help soon!

Just get Tmobile version customised. 3G will work, 4G wont and phone will be SIM unlocked out of box and you will be able to unlock the bootloader as well.
No need to worry about 3G.
Europe will soon get Moto Maker too! It is planned for Q2. The European Moto X's (XT1052) frequencies are:
GSM: 850/900/1800/1900
UMTS: 850/900/1900/2100
LTE: 800/1800/2600
So if you can wait you can get it via Europe

Thanks a lot Funky..
I'm not aware what a bootloader is - a newbie to the tech side of phones or anything. A quick search reveals it to be a set of commands executed at startup/OS. Now, at the risk of sounding even noobish than I have already portrayed, my question is -
1. Will this unlocking the bootloader affect the Touchless controls?
2. Also, since the phone is not officially launched in UAE - I wouldnt be able to get any changes (like unlocking the bootloader or anything else) done.
Thanks for your replies mate. It really made my day. Will be ordering it in a couple of days.

Thanks for your reply tommer. I checked into that possibility - issue is the phone is significantly more expensive in Europe. It costs a good 150 USD more than US. Now 4G is nearly double speed as that of 3G I think. However, 3G speed is fast enough for me.
So the trade-off is between 150 USD or double the speed than what is enough for me. I chose to save the moolah instead.
Thanks for your suggestion.

If you want to keep phone stock, no need to unlock the bootloader. But unlockable bootloader will allow you to flash custom recovery and root the phone.
does not matter where you are. You will still be able to unlock the bootloader through Motorola site. All this is optional. T-Mobile version just offers you this freedom along with moto maker.
Just unlocking bootloader will not affect touchless controls.
From my Moto X, in your face!
I'll be working in UAE soon, are there any CDMA networks there? I'm on vzw here in the states and wondering if my Dev Ed moto x will work there.
-Sent from a nitroglycerine infused moto X... handle with care
tbh, I'm not sure if i the dev edition will work here. There are 2 providers here - Etisalat and Du. I suggest you check their specs.
I know that 4G will not work for sure. Honestly, I'm very uninformed when it comes to these things. Sorry cant help you much.
