Trade Incredible S for Nexus S - HTC Incredible S

Someone wants to trade me their Nexus S for my HTC Incredible S... Do you guys think I should do it? The only reason I want to is because I can root the Samsung as my Incredible is running the Bell gingerbread update which means I can't. I really want to try the MIUI rom but I am a huge fan of Sense.
Hard decision lol. What do you guys think I should do?

Um... Make your own decision? It's down to personal preference after all. Who knows when someone will find an exploit for that Bell ROM.
One thing I will mention that people often overlook: the Nexus S has no SD card slot. So if you ditch your IS and you have an SD card it'll be useless after the swap.

I am just looking for some feedback if maybe someone has owned a Nexus S and what their honest opinion is.

I had a nexus s and what stands out more is the camera is not as good, front and back nor can it record in hd plus like was said earlier, no SD card. It does have lots of roms though.

My close friend just a nexus s .... I must say that phone feels cheap right away.... I mean there's nothing but plastic.... Incredible s on the other hand gives an impression of substance ... That's my preference... A phone that can last.. plus the camera and dual led flash is a bonus.. something that roms cannot give... Just saying.

Just pony up a few bucks and find your "local" XTC Clip to get hardware S-OFF. I just paid $20 for it as I'm using a VZW unit with Gingerbread and I had no choice, other than waiting for a new exploit.
I agree the Nexus isn't in the same realm as the IS so unless you're getting some cash along with the phone I'd keep the IS, Clip it and flash away.

Yea thanks for the input guys. I decided to hold on to my incredible because I love it .

Ugh, i'm pretty dissapointed with HTC locking us out.
I should never have sold my Desire for this... i'm not a fan at all of SenseUI after months of problem free CM7 on my Desire, I don't care if we get 2.3.3 OTA.
I think i'm going to return my phone and get the Nexus S.
I actually had the Nexus S before this phone. Loved it! No bloatware and easily rooted. Was running CM7 on it wonderfully! The only reason I returned it was coz I got headaches from looking at the screen for more than 5 min. Yeah, I'm weird.
So, what's the deal with the XTC clip? Doesn't work on our Bell phones?
And I'm not sure how to get one and how much it would be, either. lol Anybody have an idea?

No idea here either, and I wouldn't want to invest if I don't know for sure it'll work on Bell IS.
Yes nexus s is very nice, especially its excellent support from Google directly. But I tried holding nexus and IS in each hand and I gotta say it felt like IS has more in it
TBO I am pretty happy with 2.2.1 on my IS (I'm coming from SE x10 ...) Awesome HTC Sense, rarely experience any lag, good reception, nice screen, decent in-call volume, plus just read Gingerbread upgrade will give you unpleasantly bigger font (lol)...
Haha just trying to cope with this whole s-on and late GB upgrade depression, but I'm gonna try to stay hopeful anyways!
Cheers,

Really up to you. If that's as much as you re willing to spend, id go with the nexus. New is new after all, fresh warranty and your sgs may have other problems you're not still aware and you may end up spending more in the long run.
But that's only true if that's how much you're willing to pay and if you're not planning to get any other phone during the time you'll be stuck with your operator by getting a phone with points (assuming that's how it works there, it is here)
Another thing, updates. nexus is sure to get official updates to ics while we're still hanging for a confirmation from Samsung.
My verdict, nexus.

Bad or Good News. You Decide.

The HTC Incredible S is not available anymore in Australia because it is out of stock and is no longer being produced. Is this good because it means our phone was selling good, or is it bad because htc have stopped manufacturing it?
You choose.

Not available anymore, meaning the ICS update could be a parting gift from Optus/HTC?
They were selling them cheap and were still not popular. So I wouldn't be surprised. imo the IncS sat in an awkward sport between the Sensation, Desire S and DHD. Who was going to buy the IncS when for the same price they could get a sgs2?

You sir, are smoking some heavy stuff.
The IncS has been sold for 18months. This is a long life for a phone.
When it was first sold, this was a middle range phone. By todays standards it is a low end phone. I think it is time to let it rest in peace.
Anybody who thinks that flashing an hacked rom onto a phone increases it's market value, is out of his mind.
I can see that a joke may start a revolution.
LOL
Our devs will port roms from other phones and we will use it with great satisfaction, and when we will get bored with our phones, we will sell them on extra bucks just because htc stoped produced them and the stock will be limited in the world.
No need to throw stones.

Have a look at the Virgin AU website about their failure to provide ICS for the IncS. Seems HTC don't think ICS is a good experience and would prefer users to stick with Gingerbread. I'd say that signifies that it's definitely the end of the road...

Yeah the ICS OTA from Optus is laggy and slow. But its about the same performance as sense 3.0 GB was. Both are laggy. But on ARHD, the lag is gone. Boom. Figure that one out.
Only way to get the update is to dl the ruu from HTCdev which I think is good, as only advanced users will do it. Not ones that expect high performance on a low end phone and end up not buying another HTC because the new update made it lag.
Part of the reason I ended up rooting my phone was because an OTA update from HTC reduced it to a laggy mess. God knows how much crapware must be gumming up the works in those things.
I'm still pleasantly surprised by how well my phone continues to handle anything I throw at it, considering its age. I don't play many games on it, and what I do have are pretty un-taxing (Reckless Getaway is about the most 'high-end' game I have), but with a good ROM and a overclocked processor it's always smooth and responsive. On JB I honestly don't think it's any slower than my friends Samsung GS3. The smaller screen, plus the additional memory and decent processor all seem to come together into a package that just works. It's just a shame that some of its siblings stole its limelight, really. I still think it has an excellent form-factor, and I find the size perfect: not too small and not a massive slab as seems to be becoming the norm these days.
Having said that, it is old. Very much so by technology standards. To expect it to be continued to be supported is unrealistic unfortunately. We will just have to hope that developers continue to support it long after the likes of HTC have passed us by.
Agreed.
The IncS is dying, however! This phone is reliable and for that purpose solely, they should remain to sell it.

Wait about 2 months and HTC will probably come out with another revolutionary phone
What happened to the Droid DNA? The DNA has only been out for 3 months and HTC is already forgetting it.
I believe the answer is somewhere in the neighborhood of "When donkeys and pigs gain aerodynamic and sustained aerial motion" or the successful cloning of a flying Pigasus, whichever happens first... I'm tired of the 1 software upgrade and we're through with you mentality, the fact that you had to do a physical hardware short circuit to S-off and the point that the HTC One contains no easily changed battery, no place to put a microSD card...no, no..(clickty clacky keyboard noises) Computer says NO-o-o-o-o!
The DNA was released for Verizon only. All other major us carriers are getting the one, except verizon. HTC has already announced that 'the one' will be the only one series device in 2013. I understand everyone's setbacks. But I'm not passing up on a hardware beauty like this one. Not to mention it looks like every major dev team is planning on getting at least one. Check out the thread in the one general section to see who all is on board. Also everyone's favorite dev will have one too lol @jon

I gave HTC a shot and I'm done with them :/ I hate having to unlock the bootloader...and s off - that's just stupid...they honestly make it so hard to customize your phone...heck it be easier to jailbreak an iPhone than get an HTC phone setup for Rom flashing, then you got the crappy source...and extra security measures...(in-call Mic issues for att users) - who's to say they won't do the same on the one....if the s off process is anything like the vivids...well good luck with that as I'm pretty sure the one doesn't have a removable battery /end rant
I guess you could call me a Samsung fan boy

I won't pay retail for it but when my upgrade comes I'll get it.
My gf has one, and she loves it. I couldn't get it, though, because it doesn't have SD card expansion. I love my SD card way too much, so I got the Vivid instead. Couldn't be happier.
My one X is s-off a new method recently came out to do it, and it's nothing like the Vivid was cause I owned that to, never bothered to try s-off due to the stupid method.
HTC is doing a stupid move by removing microSD slots from their newer phones. We aren't babies, I'm tired of HTC treating us only a few years older then Apple does their users.
With all that being said, I'm not wasting hundreds and hundreds on a device that can't even include the basics like access to the battery and a MicroSD slot. This is day one **** HTC. I WON'T be getting a one, actually selling my HTC one X right now to switch brands. Sad sad thing.

This god damn locked boot loader is even more of an fun blocker. Oh and the fact that if you decide to relock your device it will say "re-lock" in boot loader. Oh and the fact that you have to enter fastboot flash boot boot.IMG... Want me to go on? I didn't wanna but they update so slowlyyyyy.

I have no speculation as to the cost of it. I have typically bought my phones off contract anyway so paying $600 is normal for me. The fact that the N4 was so inexpensive was just a treat. I never really expected to pay that little for a phone off contract again.
Suppose with the rumors of the N5 swirling around maybe I should just wait it out until November again. Damn, I just get bored too quickly.

From what Ive been reading, this will be their only flagship phone this year. That being said, 6 months from now I'd be looking at the N5 anyway, so just in time. I average about 6 months between phones anyway.
HTC is getting killed by Samsung and Apple, i`am afraid they will not survive on the log run. Now they have serious delays in producing the casings and the camera components and a limited marketing budget. Samsung will go full steam ahead and are allready producing at 110% and marketing will kick in globaly when the actual delivery`s take place. RIP HTC.

From my experience the HTC phones have terrible quality control issues. I've had to replace my Evo 3D the times before I had to settle with a decent one which had a long piece of lint behind the glass of the camera.
Looks like the One X was also plagued with issues as well. There's no telling what issues will be present since they're going with a whole different tech this time with their aluminum design.

I have a Nexus 4, and an HTC One dummy phone.
They both feel very well crafted, both in their own way. One knock I have against HTC is their software. I've never really liked sense. The Blink Feed thing looks gimmicky. But, the One does have a better camera, and probably better battery life.
If you need a decent camera and you don't mind delayed updates, go with the One. I might purchase a One, but more than likely I'll stick with my Nexus 4 until the Nexus 5 is released.
Re: N4 -> HTC One?
That's what they said when I bought my one x.. Only to find about about the one x+, droid DNA, and butterfly in between and now one

Anyone consider going over to the HTC One? I think that phone is gorgeous. It used to be that you wanted the Nexus device because you could get the latest Android OS the fastest but if you use a ROM it doesnt matter anymore.
Just wondering if anyone else has considered the leap.

Even with the "ROMS" you're still not getting what you get with an official Google build. There are parts of it that just have to be hacked around with until they mostly work with whatever aosp they're likely based off of(think all of the proprietary kernel BLOBs...) while Google probably either has access to the latest binaries or even source(never really looked yet as the n4 is my first actual "Google"(kinda) device...).
i.e. a nexus build SHOULD just work, while your ROM may or may not just work or might blow up at just the wrong moment(unlikely mostly, but still wouldn't really surprise me).
As to hopping to a new phone?! R u mad?! I just got the n4, and will stay with it until the next nexus is released probably, given that I'm in for cases, holsters, Qi charger, etc. and the One or even S4 just aren't "better" enough to be tempting at all, although I do sorely miss a uSD slot. (WTF?! HTH can a uSD be complicated/confusing when you have to damned well install a uSIM?! Also kinda missing a replaceable batt, esp with GPS apps which just SUCK batt like nobodies business...(I blame the enlightened for that...))
