Hi Guys,
Could someone tell me why my 2 weeks old Galaxy S (Service Provider: Bell) turns it self off out of the blue?
It happend twice already, the phone was on my pocket, I pushed the on/off side botton and nothing happens, the screen is pitch black!!
This is an irritating issue as I'm forced to physically take out the phone from the case and remove the battery and put it back on to turn on the phone.
Does anybody whats causing this issue? and how to fix it ?
Your help is much appreciated!
Cheers
Also, I was wondering if I do a factory reset to try solving the random shutting down problem, will I have to re-purchase all the apps I bought from the Market?
Send for warranty is needed I think

No, the info that you purchased the apps is stored in your Google account. So if you use the same Google account as you're using now as your primary account after reset, you can download all those apps for free. (Primary account is the Google account you first associated with the device.)
i had the same problem with 3 different bell vibrants. About 6 days ago, i bought a new sim card from bell for $5, and it has not happened since. I bought my phone from Bestbuy, but bought my new sim card from Bell store because perhaps the bestbuy sim cards are outdated. Hopefully it stays ok.
One thing i did notice was that when my phone would turn off by itself, it was always in an area where there was bad reception. Maybe a link.
I found that it happened when I installed a different launcher other than Touchwiz. I was using LauncherPro, uninstalled it and everything worked fine. I installed ADW and everything is fine so far.
I saw this thread yesterday and was thankful mine hadn't developed this issue. And then last night after about two hours idle time, my SGS switched itself off and the power button wouldn't respond at all. The only way to revive my beloved phone was to do a hard reset (i.e. removing the battery).
For what it's worth, the only "mods" I've made are installing a handful of apps. No new launcher, no custom ROMs etc.
I'm tempted to give Voda a ring and ask for a new SIM. But this really smells more like a hardware fault to me. A faulty SIM shouldn't result in a handset switching itself off, I'd think...
i'v encountered smailar problem , first i thought my phone turned itself off, later i suspected some apps i'v installed ( setCPU, autokiller etc), after while and digging, i found that i'v installed "Android Tweak" , it has an option to disable screen dim, and i'v used that option, so i changed it back and the problem is gone.
in Spain we have the same problem and no solution by now

Same thing happened to me last night. Maybe a bug with the date?

Mine just died again ten minutes ago. I guess it's a possibility, but considering the number of bugs that we're all discovering with the hardware and software, I'm suspecting it's yet another dodgy batch of phones from Samsung.
I just bought two Galaxy S and I am having same problems with both. I called Belll and they said they never had this kind of problem before. I had installed few apps and thought may be those apps were causing the problem, but even after deleting the apps..phones are powering off itself...
Did any one find the solution yet??
Same problem here, and from what i am hearing is becoming frecuent among galaxy owners. Im amazed something this important hasnt made the news , i mean, its a huge malfunction issue .
I had the same issue.
I called up Samsung support and they asked me to do a phone reset. I didn't try that, but I upgraded the firmware and it's gone now. I suspect resetting the phone will also solve the issue.
This happened to me for the first time today as I woke up and it wasn't dark outside. When I looked to see what time it was my phone (that I use as an alarm) was off!!
This is the first blemish on an otherwise outstanding experience. But it is a major one. I will assume that it is somehow related to something I've installed. But I'm not looking forward to figuring it out, since I've got a lot of apps

Good luck. I did a factory restore the other day to see if that would help. It didn't. Like you I use my SGS as an alarm... I woke up two hours late this morning because my phone had switched itself off in the middle of the night.
I'm currently waiting for a replacement handset. I'm not holding my breath that the new hardware won't have exactly the same bug though...
Mine started doing this yesterday...same with a bunch of coworkers that have the same phone. We think it may be related to bad reception.
Sigh
My phone just started doing this in the last couple of days.
I've also noticed sometimes it gets into a state of continuously saying "usb debugging connected" and then "usb connected" and just continuously keeps displaying those even though it has no usb cable anywhere near it..
Havent flashed the phone for about a week now and it was fine for 3-4 days after the flash so no idea what is going on..
Anyone else seen those usb messages? They come and go.. but it seems when they come its usually when my phone turns off..

I've not seen anything like that myself but then I have stuck with stock firmware.

Thats funny...because the only time it has happened to me is at work, where the phone is struggling for reception. It has turned off a total of about 8 times over 1 month. It has never turned off anywhere else (except one other time i was getting bad reception in the forest, and a few minutes later it was off)...strange
2 weeks after I got my SGS i had to swap it for a new one due to it bricking and seeming to be from the internal SD card issue.
A week ago it happened on the replaced handset.
The phone was sitting off on the desk, picked it up to check something and it would not turn on.
It would turn on the phone to the intro text screen before the animated S but go no further.
occasionally i could get it to boot past it into the OS but it would not read and forced closed basic functions like contacts and phone.
this was rare to occur.
Anyways, my question is did you get your phone repaired and how did it perform after? My worry is that it will come back seemingly repaired and start to act up again.
Also, did they repair it or replace it?
My phone is being repaired through Bell.
i should also state that my phone was stock everything on the latest official 2.1.
I dont have it with me so I dont know the release dates.
I purchased it August 16th and replaced it on the 25th.
SGS my baby!
well believe it or not ...i replaced my SGS 3 times in the last 2 months ...now i am back on the stock Eclair 2.1 No lag fix ...no nothing ...will wait for the official froyo 2.2 i hope its bug free ...as much as i love this SGS i would like to mention this dead sd card problem is a real turn off
oh did i mention my bro and cousin had to get their exchanged as well twice each ...i know what ur thinking all r back on stock Eclair 2.1 ..but honestly if u have patience Eclair isnt bad ...i have no issues with GPS and i do use gps a lot n i mean a lot ....me i am happy i bought SGS.... now all i need is an official froyo 2.2 without any need of lagfix.
that sucks.
my hope is that now that the new batch of phones are in (my guess is that during that dry spell where there was not an sgs anywhere in town they did a hardware fix) that the repairs will take better than when they were fixing them with faulty hardware.
here's to hoping we dont see any further issues. if it happens again i'll be selling the sgs and getting whatever the next best phone is. let it become someone elses problem.
Had the phone *repaired* not replaced 2 times and now it seems to finally be working properly. First time i sent it in because it would force close apps all the time and I didnt have 3 button recovery. Got it back and a few days later the SD card died... got it back a week ago and it is working so much better. So i suggest just getting your phones repaired not replaced. It will take longer, but in the end less problems will arise i think.
I voted for worked for a while, but borked later on.
Basically, I sent it in for repair in september, got it back in october, broke 3 days later, sent it back in and got it back last week and this time they replaced the mobo. The first time I brought it in, all they did was a reflash.
During the 3 days, I got FCs like mad, and freezing every hour or so until it died.
After the mobo replacement, I have had it for 6 days so far, and so far so good!! No problems yet.
looking for a little help guys, not sure what has happened but i have just literally (in the last 30 minutes) installed rom manager, on running the software for the first time i got the run at your own risk message that comes up the first time and then it went to the menu...... and then the phone shut down and now wont turn on, doesnt register when i plug it in to the laptop or even when the charger is plugged in. please guys need some suggestions here as to how to make this brick work again!!!
many thanks
having tried several different ways to resolve this (pressing and holding home, vol down and pwr whilest inserting the battery being one of them), ive come to the conclusion that there is no coming back from whatever rom manager has done to my phone. thankfully the phone is still within warranty as its less than 3 months old so heres hoping that they will fix the damn thing!!!
Rom manager is a tricky app because it is known for bricking phones often.
Seems like your phone is dead.
Most user with similar prob like you had to bring the phone to the service.

As you are on warranty bring it there and wait till it is repaired.
Good luck.
Next time better do not work with rom manager.
thanks, yeah its weird cause when i had it on my x10 mini pro i had no issues - but clearly not the case here, oh well live n learn!!!
just as a sort of fyi i took the phone to my local t-mobile store here in liverpool and the guy behind the counter couldnt have been more helpfull, took the phone and arranged for it to be sent back to samsung for repair, even tried himself to make it work but to no avail. was most impressed with his 'can do' attitude and its not often that something like that happens!!!
Hi there,
i just want to know who had the same experience as i had.
We're talking about an HTC m7ul, CyanogenMod, Unlocked
I was trying "Dubstep Hero" as the phone suddenly freezed, even the sound was stuck.
Then it turn off without any warning.
First i tried to reboot it normally, nothing happend.
I guess, the battery should have had about 40%.
Next Chance i thougt would be to reboot into the Bootloader / Recovery (VolUp+Pwr).
Nothing happend. Then i tried to charge the Phone, no red LED came on.
I let the phone on the stock power adapter over night and gave it another try.
Still no reaction.
After that my last attempt to get it back to life with attaching it to my computer.
Nothing was recognized, "lsusb" wasn't able to find anything attached, which could be some kind of phone.
I also tried the variant with pressing buttons for several minutes, without success.
The Phone was about 365 days and 2 hours old.
Here in Germany there is a warranty of 2 years so i returned the phone where "Saturn" will send it to HTC or some other authorized Service Partner.
Hoping that it will be back soon and i don't have any issues about the custom ROM or stuff like that.
btw...
I tried to get an OnePlus One from Coolicool.com. Don't ever buy anything there.
I still got nothing, my only luck is that i paid with paypal.
They even have not shipped it since 3 weeks! Support promised, shipping has already been done...
Next Tuesday i will try to get my Money back.
Finally my Question to u:
Have u or Have u Had the same problems / issues?
Did your Phone came back to life?
What have you done to bring it back to life?
Sorry for my english, it's not that great
Hope you figure out, how things are meant to be..
hi All,
im a newbie at this stuff and have been recently watching u you tube etc to try and fix my issue. but im having no luck. where im going wrong and how to understand what i need to do to fix.
I have a samsung g 8+, i have had since new, (unlocked to carrier) the other month the phone was turning off randomly, so i took it in it in to the phone shop to get repaired.
the guy told me it needs a battery. i said go ahead. couple of days later ive picked up the phone is was working fine. but it was low on battery and when i got home i placed the phone of charge and left it on till the next morning.
i went to unplug the phone from the charger and realized the samsung logo. i tried to turn off the phone and tuen it back on and its stuck on the samsung lgo screen.
i took it back to the shop the guy had the phone for a couple of days then tells me that the phone can't be fixed. or try another shop.
so i have tried flashing the phone with no luck, using different models of odin, i have downloaded my frimware from SAM mobile.
there wasn't an Australia firmware option, so i downloaded Singapore all.
i keep getting fail on the odin and don't know where i am going wrong, please help.
