Hi, I think i bricked my P970... ;(
I was on V10a with CWM installed. I tried to update my phone to V10b via FOTA in the main menu. Phone downloaded firmware update (approx. 7MB) and rebooted into CWM recovery. It stuck there. Tried to reboot, wipe data, but it still loops into CWM recovery.
Finally i tried emergency restore via LG Update. Whole update process looked fine until reboot.
After that I'm stuck on grey screen saying Firmware Update, After firmware update phone will reboot, blah blah blah, with empty progress bar. Nothing happens... Sometimes there's blue screen (kernel panic?).
Is there any chance to revive this phone? Please help...

Go to the P970 Firmwares Flashing thread and read it with calm. Use method 1 tutorial to flash a newer version, from 10B (the ota update) to 11B.
Good luck.

I'm trying this right now. Will post if it succeeded.
Tried V11B, reboot, grey screen "Firmware Update" and then blue screen with green writings. I think I'm totally screwed up... ;(
EDIT: Sorry for double-posting...

:S I just did it 5 minutes ago with 11B because I bricked mine, and eventually succeeded. It must have broken really hard... You'll have to visit LG center I guess...
Sorry
I was upgrading from V10a Orange PL to V10b Orange PL (with fixed root exploit).
After I bricked it, I was trying with KDZ FW UPD with every version: Orange V10a, V10b, V10b EUR Open, V10c, V11b and there's always this grey screen saying "Internal firmware upgrade. Phone will restart after firmware upgrade (from Polish) with empty progress bar with flashing buttons? Don't know what to do...

I've never seen that screen. It has to do with the FOTA, which I think you should have never done if you were rooted. I'm sorry, but it looks like you will have to deliver it to the store if anyone else can help you.

Yes it's my stupid mistake, i was updating via FOTA with rooted phone.
It's too bad that OB doesn't have key combination for recovery. I think there's nothing else but trying to return it to my operator. I hope they'll fix it on the warranty...
Hey man have you tried to take the battery off sd card off everything off and connected the phone to pc via usb thile pressing vol up button? It should appear S/W Upgrading screen.

Yes I did. I'm always flashing with method 1 (UncleCacker's), without battery, SD card and SIM. I also tried emergency restore via LG Updater but nothing helps.
EDIT:
I gave up... Phone is at my local store now, waiting for warranty repair...
EDIT2:
Phone was repaired at LG repair center. They replaced motherboard from AORPTL (Orange PL) with simlock to APOLTL (Open Europe Poland) without simlock so i have luck.
Received my phone in the end of August.

Hello Everyone.
I got a problem here.
I got an optimus black, and I flashed the V10B firmware. Before I flashed the firmware, My OB was able to recognize the Sim Card and use phone data. But after I flashed the firmware through B2C , The phone does not recognize it, it keeps on saying No Network. I tried different sim cards, but no change.
Trying to solve the problem, I tried flashing V10A to the phone, And nothing changed. Now Its running Cm7, and Still, the problem persists.
Could this be a baseband issue? Would flashing new baseband solve this? I tried to gather infos on the net but have found none as OB is a "rare" device in this field.
I would really appreciate any help, In a trouble right now trying to solve the problem.
Thank you so much,
Hy!
I`ve flashed temasek build 3 lasted 2 days, because in the christmas afternoon my phone begin to restart from 5-10 minutes.
I decided to flash back the stock ROM and surprise surprize, in my device manager there was 1 usb modem and 1 virtual modem.I disabled them both and flashed the phone with KDZ Updater and V10B firmware. The update windows said that my phone was completed and my phone got stuck in a bootloop.
My screen gets stuck on a black color after that LG logo dissaperar.
Before flashing v10b my phone didnt recognized my SIM card and i was unable to manage that.
Now i will give a big kiss in the ass to everyone who can help me unbrick it !!!!!!!

Dear all,
Last night I tried updating to V20N (Dutch) using the standard LG Mobile update tool, so via USB. After the downloading step, the update tool proceeded to install until 15% has reached. The tool says "communication error between PC and phone" or something like that. It tells to disconnect USB and remove battery and try again. I did this 4 times, but the phone itself stays in "S/W update" mode.
Before perfoming a hard reset (and losing all of my data) using one the unbrick tools, I solved this by using the option "recovery and emergency" in the options tab of the LG update tool. After 20 min recovery my phone was back and guess what? It had been updated to V20N 2.3.4
Now it feels more snappy, no more lag while sliding the screens. Apps running smooth. No idea about the battery life.
Same issue here can u please explain it further or a step by step guide.

In the menu of LGMobile Support Tool choose "Customer Support"
then click on "Recovery Phone"
in the pop-up window enter either IMEI/ESN/MEID or Model+S/N and click "Check"
Then the Mobile Update Tool should pop-up and start downloading+updating
Lots of succes!
Had the same issue a while back, even the emergency/recovery flash from LG tool did not work. Eventually the smartflash method worked for me, going back to v10a and the offical update with official LG tool to v20n worked after that...very strange...

Exactly the same thing happened to me just last night. I was prompted for a V20E (PHL) update. After download and install my phone got disconnected and was stuck on the S/W update screen even after I removed the battery several times.
I found a recovery step by step here and gave it a try. I unplugged the USB, removed the battery, reconnected the USB, pressed vol(-) (not sure about this it was already midnite and I was desperate) and pressed the power button. LG app connected and I chose recover. Entered IMEI and it started downloading again. I tried to get some sleep and a few minutes later I heard the phone startup sound. Hooray! Initially I thought I was back to V10D but the version confirmed I was now on V20E. Double hooray! Still a fail for LG though. Will the same adventure happen when ICS comes out (in two years or so)?
The problem is, that you probably had a cust ROM with ext4 support and that doeant work with stock ROMs, --> bootloop

No custom or root. I was running a plain-Jane V10D before the upgrade.
You should report this bug to LG.
I emailed customer service. They apologized and asked me to bring it to the nearest service center
same thing happened to me.. but what i did was i went to LG mobile in MOA and let them restored my phone but mine is V20b.. is V20e a newer version?
V20B was announced last month. I tried upgrading to that but it went into the phone disconnected error so I decided to wait until I can visit the LG kiosk.
Then V20E came out so I thought let's give it a try hence my adventure. V20E is still 2.3.4 though.
I can't post links yet so try to search for the firmware list. It basically says V10A >> V10D >> V20B >> V20E.
ah i see... thanks man.. i'm still new to these stuff i need to read the threads here to learn how to flash and maybe try V20e
Hi
I'm helping out a friend, which O2X I have rooted and flashed WIUI on to (I previously owned one myself too)
For some reason the phone started to get hot after a while and used up the battery fast, until one day where he couldn't even turn it on again.
Now, he has been trying to fix it himself with NVflash, but no luck, so now its up to me and you guys.
I have used the smartflash tool and flashed the EURO OPEN stock ROM and everything went succesfull, but when the phone reboots, the LG logo appears, and it bootloops.
I tried both with battery and no battery in, but still no cigar.
Any suggestions what I should try next?
PS: If I try to turn on the phone normally, nothing happens. not even a blink from the screen, but I can get into S/W mode and APX
Try lg update tool, choose recover as option, then choose imei as entrance

EDIT: The software says the update is not compatible (dunno if translation is correct, but you get the point)
Update is aborted :/
No more suggestions on what to do?
Tried:
NVflash
Smartflash (Flashed EURO OPEN rom)
LG Update tool (recover function)
The phone still won't boot.
Smartflash is the only solution like you said that the phone can boot in s/w mode try to dig some answer in smartflash thread or search in google i know you can find some answer there

Assuming you have carried out the procedures correctly, looks like this device is actually defective. Probably not what you want to hear, I know, but...
Before giving up completely, you can NVFlash it again (using the original 10C NVFlash from Modaco) and post the log here. Wouldn't get my hopes up though.
i messed up my lg with installing ICS,now when i turn on the mob everything is blocked, picture of android is v10 and version inside is v30,i can charge it and i can get in s/w update mode. i tried smartflash but it goes to download complete but mob. wont reboot just turns on lg logo,i tried kdz updater but when i press upgrade start and normally its supposed to ask me which country to choose so i can put different country in my case it goes automaticlly to update. i have teamviewer 8 if maybe someone has time to help me so i dont have to take it to service(no money). thanks
now in lgmobile tool i did phone recovery and after i turn lg on on version it sais v10a and it sais i can start update to gingerbread and when i start on update on 15% it stops, any help?
after error i put manually in s/w update mode and it went all the way,it sais gingerbread installed but cell want reboot and when i turn it on there is no change.
on 90% of update on cell comes lg sign and stayes like that
hey man sorry for the late, I'm a little busy
just a question, when you flash a patched firmware, can you access to the recovery ? if yes, that's all, from there just do a wipe of datas (flash superuser if root is needed) and reboot. done.
no problem its never late, unfortunately not, thats was i am trying to do,i know i need to come to recovery but so far i didnt manage
which firmware did you try ? (give a link if possible)
unfortunately i am at work but i dowloaded v10a from, http://lg-phone-firmware.com/index.php?id_mod=1
these from that site are not patched, but stock...
download this (run to extract binaries) and follow my pdf guide if you have already the upk package
edit : or follow this online guide
ok i will try with this, can you just tell me will i try with kdz updater or with smartflash?
smartflash of course.
kdzu is obsolete since LG has restricted this method (there is a way though, but more complicated)
i have upk ofcourse,i tried so many combinations, maybe i tried even v20s patched but i will give it a go tonight after 10 p.m. when i get home and i will post results, thanks for now Ilko
Ilko this stock v30 recovery, would that maybe help in my case?
If you need a reset, it won't help, because as said before, ICS stock firmwares don't have recovery
From my funky phone
here i am,i tried, download went ok but cell is stuck on lg logo
with vbscript i managed to run r&dtt and change country to diferrent but on 90% always cuts me off,i noticed in device manager that it cuts usb connection,i know that i must put cell on usb debbuging mode but i cant when my cell is completely locked when its turned on,is there any solution for this or we can say i can through it away??
well, I don't know what to say friend. if smartflash fails, other ways will fail too. you may try r&dtt with the shttp tip. I'm afraid this is the last chance
Hmmm, what if he tries to flash a stock ICS? Since SFT tries to reboot in recovery mode, it will wipe data, and maybe will help...
As long as it doesn't drop the usb connection, of course
Sent from my LG-P970 using Tapatalk 2
i used v30b and sft download complete and it turned on lg logo and stays like that,no reboot, with shttp tip i tryed again but it always cuts me out on 90 %, do you guys know if i take it to a special shop for mobile they could reset it with some special cable or something????
when download on smartflash completes usb immediately disconects me and than cell can not reboot, smartflash automaticlly finds a com port,do i need to do something manually with installing drivers or something?????
I gave my phone to my son, cause i got a new one. he decided to put it back on stock firmware and now its saying: S/W upgrading please wait while upgrading.
I was running on TonyP JB without problems. Idid a recovery to ics with the ICS-cwm-6.0.2.5. This was also running fine.
My son tried to update to stock firmware with the official lg update tool and emergency repair. Now its stuck on the updating screen.
I tried to reinstall the new bootloader --> succeeded
Install the recovery (ICS-cwm-6.0.2.5) --> succeeded
above 2 things were done with the AIO toolkit v5
When i put the device on the same message appears?
Anyone a solution?
Thanks in advance

Yes, i tried flashing a rom. Without result, keeps saying the s/w upgrade, please wait while upgrading.
Also tried smartflashing with v30a, no result.
I can install the new bootloader an the ics partitition size.
I also tried a full restore ROM and Data (Kernel, System, Data), no result

Looks like you are on old bootloader but not completed the full flashing....
I think it is better to do a nvflash .....download the nvflash tool AIOT or progmaq nvflash tool....
Be aware that you will loose all the personal data.
I got the software upgrade screen once on stock unrooted Froyo. But that was due to my pressing the Volume key (I don't remember which one-most probably Volume Up) simultaneously when pressing the Power On key at start up. Are you doing anything similar.
Got the phone reset!!!
Used option 4 in the AIO toolkit and chose the for option 4. After this i flashed to new bootloader, and used option 1 in the tool to recover all.
