Hello all
The best feature in "milestone" is by far it's hardware keyboard...and probably this was the reason many of us purchased it instead of other models...anyways here in the middle east we have milestone come with two types of letters printed on the keys "Arabic & English" and the stock eclair and froyo supports both and there is a language selection key dedicated for switching.
However !!!
Most of us hate the stock android and replace it with the lovely custom ROMs...and for me doing that means losing the Arabic support on the hardware keyboard
I tried porting the keyboard used in the stock android to the custom ROMs but all I got was infinit force closes !
Another possible solution was smart keyboard pro with supports hardware translation... But the order of the letters differs from the default Arabic letter order.
There are many fixes for the layout of the keyboard (qwert azerty) etc... So is there a possibility of having such fix for the Arabic layout,,,it will also help Hebrew and Russian language users as well
I'll be happy to supply any needed information that might help and very very thankful to anyone who will cooperate with me to solve my problem
Regards

I'm using my cell phone with BD3.1 with no real issues, however since i get alot of Arabic messages, i would like to be able to actually read the (Bd3.1 displays the arabic characters, but they're messed up heavily) so is there anyway to add language support to a rom WITHOUT removing the original language? (id like my phone to function in english , but be able to read any arabic sms's i get)
I don't know about Arabic characters but maybe it works in the similar ways as it works to support Chinese characters.
For that I would need a font with Chinese characters. Even then the support is not complete or on all levels (e.g. SMS supported but Chinese websites not).
Additionally you may need a SIP that supports you in entering Arabic chararaters.
Maybe you are lucky to find/extract a cab from the extended ROM area of an Arabic ROM ...
Good luck!
No, complete Chinese support can be added. I have already done that for Traditional Chinese.
Yes it's true. But if you just installed the font only .. it's not.
Cheers and Happy Chinese New Year!
hello all.
i just recently bought (2 days now) a shiny new X1 and i am quite pleased with it for the most part... except for some issues
so ... some questions;
build quality is ok but it feels like a wobble when the unit is closed during tapping. is this normal? in other words the screen sort of "shifts" around in movement ... is this normal?
my rom came with arabic support (the unit has arabic fonts lettering on the keyboard) however when writing a message i cant figure out how to turn the keyboard into arabic.. only the on-screen-keyboard displays arabic.
well thats all done with cause i changed the rom and even though i backed up following the steps in the tutorial on this forum when i restored the rom the arabic applications didnt restore nor did the fonts. i dont know why...
so now i installed many roms and even though i installed Mobidev (the arabic localization) the on-screen-keyboards only display english. for example, christian's rom, the valkrye rom, and the Unoff rom. all are english however i cant figure out how to add the arabic keyboard...
any help is appreciated.

comeon guys... ???
It's normal that it 'wobbles', there are two parts (the actual phone and the screen)attached to eachother at two points I think .. not sure why SE/htc didn't decide to fix the wobble thingy though
thanks
any ideas on how to make the hardware keyboard switch to another language ?
get the regedit program on the forums and then find the keyboard code which uses arabic as its layout then it should work.
or you can always just look for a custom arabic rom , Hard-reset + flash the rom will always do the trick too.

Click to collapse
Non-latin languages require more work, because they need to get the IME working whereas latin charset languages just need the characters and accents. I suggest you flash an Arabic ROM to make your life easier.
The au key should be the language toggle.
I bought my Milestone with Arabic Hardware Keyboard Layout with 2.1.
Updating to CM7, now keyboard is English only. Is there anyway to bring back the Arabic or Persian functionality to it?
I've been requesting this feature for a looong looong time and no one is helping me out... i hope you have better luck than me
First of all forgive me for being an annoying noob I am, but I've been googleing this matter for 3 days with no luck.
So here is the deal: I've purchased a Chinese (I think) GTab (meaning the default locale was Chinese) here in Russia. There was no problem in switching locale to Russian, all fonts work correctly, all translations are good and so on. The problem is, Samsung keyboard doesn't have a Russian language as an option (despite having a bunch of others), and I would love to use a keyboard dock, which only agrees to work with SK. The interesting thing is, the keyboard dock does have a Russian layout, so I have to presume there is actually a way to install it to Samsung keyboard app.
Can anyone spare any advice?
The best I've managed to find so far was a similar topic for the original Tab, but it only applies to android 2.1 and 2.2 as far as I figured (I did try before assuming)
maybe you should try and contact kallt_kaffe.

I've wondering if there's anyway or mod or guide available that I can embed Japanese IME into HTC One's Stock keyboard?
As I prefer the stock keyboard over the keyboard available in the play store, however, HTC's stock keyboard has never add Japanese language IME into it.
So, anybody could lead me to somewhere there?
Were you able to find anything out? I just bought a used HTC One, changed the system language to Japanese no problem but saddened to see the lack of Japanese in the keyboard list There are so many others... I really like the stock keyboard and would like to stay with it instead of going back to the Google IME.
Anyone know a way?
